They acknowledged their mentors and bared their souls, earning laughs and tears alike. Here were some of the most memorable moments from their induction speeches.
What he said in his induction speech: Fitzgerald retold his football story, from Vikings ballboy to NFL Hall of Famer, thanking dozens of people along the way. One of the first stops was at Martin Luther King Park in Minneapolis:
"Had my first touchdown, my first home run, first dunk, first fight. I even had my first kiss, and I almost drowned in the pool there one time."
Fitzgerald praised the Bidwill family, especially Michael for giving him "the canvas to paint my version of a masterpiece" and for the golf-trip planes.

We've reached Day 38 in our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' season opener, making this 38-yard Drew Brees touchdown pass our pick for the Saints Play of the Day. It was a big throw in a big moment inside the two-minute warning; Brees and the New Orleans offense were facing 3rd-and-13 against a Raiders team coached by none other than Dennis Allen, a former Sean Payton ***** istant who knew them very well. But Brees delivered.
Brees evaded pressure off his left side and stepped up as the pocket collapsed behind him. With Raiders defenders closing in on him fast, he lobbed a pass into the end zone where only Lance Moore could get it. The crafty wide receiver had put a step on his defender and Brees hit him in stride for the score, Moore going to the ground to protect the ball from an opponent leaping after him.
Plays like that one are why Brees is going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. His ability to read the entire field and work quickly under pressure combined with a rare knack for placing the ball exactly where he wanted it made for one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Highlights like this one are worth remembering on the occasion of his Hall of Fame induction.

Well, let's start with the good feelings. There was a sentimental feeling percolating around the Yard well before tonight's game, with a team Hall of Fame induction ceremony that saw former O's slugger Chris Davis, 1983 World Series Champion Storm Davis, and late scout Jim Russo all get their green jackets. Both Storm and Chris were in attendance, along with lots of their former teammates, including, to give short pre-game remarks and stop by the MASN booth to chat about their favorite memories.
It was cool to learn that Storm Davis actually served as a mentor to a young Ben McDonald, then a rookie pitcher, now a MASN ****** yst, but I was especially sentimental about Davis's reminiscences, which covered the especially sweet 2012-16 years, when the O's led the AL in wins. Jul. 30—Three Hall of Fame inductions in the span of a month would be an extraordinary accomplishment for most athletic departments.
At Colfax High School, it almost felt inevitable.
During an 11-day span in May, football coach Mike Morgan and girls basketball coach Corey Baerlocher entered their state coaches **** ociation Halls of Fame, while volleyball coach Sue Doering was inducted into the WIAA Hall of Fame.
Each built one of the state's premier programs in their respective sports. Together, they coached 23 state championship teams, hundreds of victories and generations of student-athletes.
Their names now sit alongside another pair of Colfax coaching legends who helped shape the school's athletic identity: longtime boys basketball coach Bob Bafus and former baseball coach Mike Parrish.

The retired All-Pro linebacker figures to appear on phone and television screens this fall after reportedly landing a high-profile commentating gig. However, Kuechly's role doesn't appear to have him covering NFL games every week.

Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl officials are celebrating 50 years of competition this year and they're doing it in a big way.
The organization is releasing the top 50 all-time players in I-Bowl history and they're releasing them in five-player increments. The list was voted on by a local panel of media members, including the Shreveport Times, and I-Bowl representatives.
The latest group of Nos. 36-40 on the all-time list include Bossier High/Louisiana Tech standout Weldon Brown and one of the most recognizable names to play in the I-Bowl in Virginia's Tiki Barber.
Numbers 36 through 40 on the Independence Bowl's All-Time Team include:
Barber might be one of the biggest household names on the all-time list, but before turning himself into the 14th greatest New York Giant of all-time, he played in the 1994 I-Bowl against TCU. He had three carries for 18 yards, three receptions for 2 yards and an 18-yard kickoff return. Barber had a highly successful college career for the Cavaliers, as evidenced by his No. 21 jersey being retired by Virginia, his selection to the ACC's 50th Anniversary Team, and his induction into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. Barber was named ACC Player of the Year in 1996 after rushing for 1,360 yards and 14 touchdowns (TDs). Drafted in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft, he turned himself into the Giants' all-time leading rusher — rushing for 10,449 yards in his career. He was named first-team All-Pro in 2005 when he rushed for 1,860 yards and nine TDs, while also adding 54 receptions for 530 yards. Also a three-time Pro Bowler, Barber was inducted into the Giants Ring of Honor in 2010.

Jul. 22—Former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Bob Trumpy and running back James Brooks will be going into the organization's Ring of Honor this year.
The Bengals announced Wednesday, July 22 that Trumpy and Brooks were selected as the 2026 Ring of Honor inductees, based on a vote by season ticket holders from a ballot featuring 12 individuals who have played a significant role in the franchise's history and tradition.
Trumpy, who played for the Bengals from 1968 through 1977, and Brooks (1984-91) will join Ken Anderson, Willie Anderson, Paul Brown, Isaac Curtis, Corey Dillon, Boomer Esiason, Chad Johnson, Dave Lapham, Tim Krumrie, Anthony Muñoz, Lemar Parrish and Ken Riley in the Bengals Ring of Honor.
The induction ceremony will take place during halftime of the game against the Tennessee **** ans on Nov. 1.
Trumpy was a 12th-round draft pick of the Bengals in their inaugural 1968 season and notably scored the team's first-ever receiving touchdown. He went on to play in 128 games with 120 starts over the next 10 seasons and set the standard for future players at his position. Among all tight ends in team history, he has the most receiving yards (4,600), receiving touchdowns (35), yards per reception (15.4) and Pro Bowl selections (four).

Stephen Curry is in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. His official induction is unquestionably coming but more than half a decade away, four years after he retires. However, he is about to become the first active player with an exhibit in the Hall, the institution announced. “Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc” will open July 24, and is a celebration of Curry, the four-time NBA champion, two-time MVP, 12-time NBA All-Star, Olympic gold medalist and the NBA’s career leader in 3-pointers made.

TROY, N.Y. — As he typically does, Howie Rose struck the perfect chord in a pre-recorded video message shared here at the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony Sunday night.
"It's impossible to have a New York State Hockey Hall of Fame and not include Nicky Fotiu," the former New York Rangers broadcaster, and current Voice of the Mets, said.
That issue, as it were, was laid to rest this weekend, when the popular Staten Island-born former Rangers forward was inducted with the rest of the Class of 2026. Fittingly, he was enshrined alongside his Blueshirts teammate from the 1970s and '80's Don Maloney, and 1994 Stanley Cup-winning Rangers general manager Neil Smith.
"Now, it's all done. Signed, sealed, delivered," Fotiu told Forever Blueshirts, wearing a big smile. "New York State Hall of Fame. Staten Island Hall of Fame. Rangers Hall of Fame. I'm running out of Hall of Fames!"
Now 74 years old, Fotiu still has a lot of that kid left in him — the one who plays practical jokes, tells great stories, is everyone's friend, and loves the Rangers. He grew up sitting in the blue seats — remember them? — way up high at Madison Square Garden,. and never forgot his roots. Before every home game at MSG during his two tenures with the Rangers, he'd throw pucks up to the fans seated in the blues.

Tubby Smith, who spent two seasons as Memphis basketball coach, was announced as a member of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame's 2026 induction class on July 13.
Rounding out the class are coaches Jay Wright and Ted Owens, as well as former BYU superstar Danny Ainge, former Michigan Wolverine standout Glen Rice, and late UCLA legend Walt Hazzard. The induction ceremony is set for Oct. 22 at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, Missouri.
"The Class of 2026 represents the very best of college basketball – individuals whose performance, leadership, and impact helped shape the game at the highest level," said Kevin Henderson, CEO of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. "Their legacies will forever be preserved as part of the sport's rich history."
In addition to Smith's time at Memphis — where he was fired in 2018, before the school hired current coach Penny Hardaway — he also served as head coach at Tulsa (1992-95), Georgia (1996-97), Kentucky (1998-2007), Minnesota (2008-13), Texas Tech (2014-16), and High Point (2019-22). He has a career record of 642-370, and he won the 1998 national championship in his first season at Kentucky.
Smith, 75, is one of four coaches in college basketball history to lead as many as five programs to the NCAA tournament. Memphis and High Point are the only programs that did not reach March Madness with him as coach. During the most successful stretch of his coaching career, Smith guided his teams to the Big Dance 16 out of 17 seasons. But his last season at Texas Tech (2015-16) is the only time he reached the NCAA tournament over his final nine seasons as a Division I coach.

The No. 63 jersey is one of the 10 retired numbers in franchise history, in honor of linebacker Willie Lanier, who was a leader on the Chiefs’ defense for the early years, including a shutdown performance against the Minnesota Vikings in the 23-7 Super Bowl IV victory. From 1967 to 1977, Lanier earned eight Pro Bowl selections and three first-team All-Pro selections, building a resume worthy of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He is immortalized in the Chiefs’ Ring of Honor, with the No. 63 forever tied with him, but there is another all-time No. 63 in team history:
After being selected with the fifth pick in the 1984 NFL Draft from the University of Pittsburgh, Maas hit the ground running in Kansas City by winning AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. He would also appear in two Pro Bowls as a Chiefs representative, but the team was unable to find relevance until after his prime seasons.
He forced 11 fumbles during his time in Kansas City, one of the many factors in his induction into the Chiefs’ Hall of Fame. He is still involved in the local community.

UNCASVILLE, CT — Cheryl Reeve stands alone at the top of the list for most regular-season wins as a WNBA head coach.
On Wednesday, July 8, Reeve set the league record with her 380th victory when her Minnesota Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun, 86-80, at Mohegan Sun Arena. Reeve surpassed longtime Sun coach Mike Thibault's record of 379. It has stood since 2022.
Reeve's latest milestone comes after she tallied her 414th victory (regular-season and postseason) on Sept. 14, 2025, becoming the all-time winningest WNBA coach for combined wins, surpassing Thibault (413).
It also comes after she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on June 27 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Reeve is the second WNBA coach to be inducted, joining former Houston Comets coach Van Chancellor, inducted in 2001.
"(I appreciate) the magnitude of this recognition of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the great work that has gone into this institution," Reeve said during her induction ceremony. "To walk around and see the history of how much has been done years before I could ever have this opportunity to coach."

The group will be honored between the two evening Class B semifinal games on Saturday, Aug. 15 during the state amateur baseball tournament at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

The New York Knicks starting five will reportedly be returning to Madison Square Garden for the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Page Six reports that the starry couple have invited "the starting lineup for the Knicks", including star player Jalen Brunson, to their wedding bash on Friday.
Swift and her friends started a Knicks T-shirt trend when she attended one of the team's basketball games last month. Swift yelled so loudly during the game that she could barely recite her Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction speech the following night.
"The quality of my speaking voice, I am not sorry for. I was lucky enough to go to a Knicks game last night," she said of her raspy tone after Steven Spielberg presented her with the honour.

Looking back on his family's trip to Knoxville, Tyler Summitt wishes he had done it sooner.
The son of former Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt hasn't brought his kids to his hometown often, or for very long. He and his wife, Brooke, took them to Summitt's statue last year, but it wasn't an extended trip.
It was something he put off for one reason or another — the kids were young, it's a trek from Ohio with three of them, and there are all of the emotions of going home.
This June, though, the Summitts took a six-day trip to Knoxville, which overlapped with former Lady Vols star Candace Parker's induction to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on June 27. Their last day in town was June 28, which was the 10th anniversary of Pat Summitt's death.
"It just really felt like the stars aligned, it was meant to be," Summitt told Knox News. "It was like God had a plan for us to be there, and I'm so glad we did it."

Seven individuals with ties to the University of Tennessee were inducted into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame.
Honorees included ******* istant football coach John Chavis, wide receiver Jermaine Copeland, softball coaches Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly, All-American distance runner Brenda Webb, basketball player Clarence Swearengen and tennis player Michelle DePalmer-Williams.
Since 1982, the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony has celebrated Knoxville sports. Each year, local individuals are inducted into the hall of fame for their accomplishments in athletics, coaching, sports administration, media and officiating.
Chavis played for the Vols from 1976-78 and served 20 years on the Tennessee's coaching staff. He was defensive coordinator from 1995-2008 and helped Tennessee win the 1998 BCS national championship and four SEC ******* les.
Copeland also won a national championship 1998. He played in NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League.

CHASKA, Minn. — Hazeltine National Golf Club takes center stage this week as the host of the 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, with much of the spotlight fixed on Nelly Korda and her pursuit of history.

For the fifth consecutive year, former Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg has been left waiting for a call from the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2026 on Monday, and Zetterberg was not among the players selected for induction. Instead, Patrice Bergeron, Carey Price, Pekka Rinne, Keith Tkachuk, Cindy Curley, and executive Brian Burke earned enshrinement this year.
For Red Wings fans, the news is likely to reignite a familiar debate: How much longer will Zetterberg have to wait?
This marked Zetterberg's fifth appearance on the Hockey Hall of Fame ballot since becoming eligible.
To gain induction, a candidate must receive support on at least 75 percent of the ballots cast by the Hall's 18-member selection committee. Specific voting totals are not made public, leaving little insight into how close Zetterberg came to earning a spot this year.

VERONA, N.Y. (AP) — Gennadiy Golovkin was always more about big punches than big words. Talking was for fighters like Antonio Tarver.
But on Hall of Fame induction day, even guys like Tarver can have trouble getting the words out.
“They always say I’m good on the mic but I don’t know, this is going to be tough,” Tarver said Sunday.
He and Golovkin both got through their speeches near the end of the ceremony for the class of 2026 that is being enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York.
Golovkin went 42-2-1 with 37 KOs as one of the top middleweights in boxing history. He made a record-tying 20 consecutive **** le defenses in the 160-pound weight class, earning his first **** le in 2010 and remaining champion until Canelo Alvarez edged him in 2018 in their second blockbuster bout.

When the NFL schedule came out in May, the Cleveland Browns were omitted from any primetime games. Come to think about it, the franchise wasn’t involved in any contests in the international series as well.
These games are being played in various countries such as England, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, and, for the first time, in Australia and France.

The NFL recently announced it is broadcasting only five nationally televised preseason games, and the Browns are included. Cleveland’s home game against the New England Patriots on August 27 will be available on Prime Video. This is good news for the faithful Cleveland fanbase.
Each club will play three preseason games except for the two teams participating in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, during the Hall of Fame induction weekend.
