Daniel Rodriguez didn't get his picture-perfect comeback moment in the UFC Fight Night 283 main event, but he still holds his head high.
After a well-document prison stint in Mexico that kept him out of competition, Rodriguez (20-6 MMA, 10-5 UFC) jumped right into a five-headliner headliner with Uros Medic (14-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) in enemy territory at at Belgrade Arena in Serbia.
It couldn't have played out worse for Rodriguez, because he landed just one significant strike before being knocked out in a mere 30 seconds.
Rodriguez said pre-fight that he felt stepping into the cage in itself was a win after all his struggles, but he ultimately wanted to craft a move-like script by getting his hand raised. It didn't go that way, but he said post-fight that he remains "proud" (via Instagram Stories):
Rodriguez, 39, saw his three-fight winning streak come to an end at UFC Fight Night 283. Now it remains to be seen where he goes from here.

Colgan (13-1) came into the fight with a perfect record and all the confidence, but Nurmagomedov (22-0) took that away from him with a first-round knockout victory in the event headliner at UBS Arena on Long Island.
With the win, Nurmagomedov completed the final fight of his PFL contract and will become one of the most coveted fighters in the sport. He resisted talking about the situation, but the door could potentially be open for a long-discussed moved to the UFC's 155-pound weight class.

Longtime UFC desk ****** yst and veteran welterweight Jouban is quite compelled by Medic (13-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) vs. Rodriguez (20-5 MMA, 10-4 UFC), who meet in their first octagon main event at Belgrade Arena in Serbia (Paramount+).
Both men bring three-fight winning streaks into the bout, where Medic is a sizeable betting favorite. "The Doctor" has a home-field advantage in Serbia and heavy hands that have proven capable of knocking out high-level fighters. Jouban understands why Medic is favored, but his history with Rodriguez, as well as studying his many fights, affords respect to the potential path to victory.
"D-Rod's got this thing, man – I was training with him when he was young, before he got into the UFC," Jouban told MMA Junkie. "I used to bring him in to spar with me, and I just always remember he has this follow-up left hand that buzzes you. You see it in his fights. He'll be losing a fight, he'll get knocked down and people get a little overzealous and go for the finish. He always had a natural ability – he's a southpaw, so a lot of people don't like to throw their power hand because it makes you put yourself more in danger and commit to the punch, whereas a check hook or something is a lot easier to stay away. Daniel has this natural ability to always finish a combination with his left hand, which is his power punch and his best punch, as well. It's natural. I've felt it. It buzzes you. He seems to get guys.
"That's what I'm going to be looking for in this fight with Uros Medic. He's a finisher, he smells blood, and he gets you out of there very quickly. Three-fight win streak, three knockouts for Uros Medic. If he hurts D-Rod, I expect to see this in the first round. I expect to see him hurt D-Rod. D-Rod's kind of got a history of getting hurt, and then hurting you after. What happens in that exchange? Did Uros do the film study? Is he able to control the emotions of not going for that finish that he's so good at? If D-Rod can find that left hand and change the course of the momentum of this matchup. That's going to be what I'm really looking at closely in this fight."

Real American Freestyle announced on Thursday that past UFC middleweight ***** leholder Khamzat Chimaev is set to make his second appearance with the promotion to face former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in the main event of RAF Moscow. The event takes place Sept. 5 on streams exclusively on FOX Nation in the U.S., while other global broadcast details will be announced.
Chimaev had a successful RAF debut with a first-round pinfall win against Dillon Danis in the main event of RAF 10 in June. The match was heated as Danis appeared to attempt a choke on Chimaev after a takedown, and the aftermath led to an all-out brawl between the two teams. In a recent interview with RAF co-founder Chad Bronstein, he told MMA Fighting that Chimaev is expected to compete multiple times for the promotion before the year ends.
Woodley is already slated to compete at RAF 12 in August against Joaquin Buckley. Myles Garrett is obviously the headliner of the Los Angeles Rams' pass rush, but Byron Young is a crucial part of the defense, too. Entering a contract year, Young is looking to get even better in 2026 after making the Pro Bowl for the first time last season.
Unfortunately, he's not fully healthy, and it sounds like he hasn't been in quite some time.
After sitting out practice on Monday, the Rams' second session of training camp, Young told reporters that he's still nursing a knee injury that's bothered him "for years." Young says he's "feeling real good," but he spent his offseason managing his knee with the Rams' training staff.
"It's been good," Young said of his offseason. "I've just been nursing up my knee. That was a process. They've got a good plan for me in place."
Young was asked about the recovery plan for his knee, and he says he and the Rams are going to take it "day by day." He practiced on Sunday and then sat out Monday's practice, but he plans to be back on the field "in a couple of days."

The PGA Tour announced Friday night the 141 players who are committed to teeing it up at Detroit Golf Club next week, when the eighth and final Rocket Classic will be played from July 30-Aug. 2.
There were no major changes with the final list of PGA Tour player commitments, from previous announcements, as the field continues to be highlighted by four players inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking, eight in the top 20, 21 in the top 50, and more than half of the top 100. It took years for Magomed Ankalaev to climb to the top of the light heavyweight mountain, and less than 90 seconds for his reign to end. There's no telling how long it will take him to make it back, but he takes his first steps to another championship opportunity at UFC Abu Dhabi.
Saturday's main event features Ankalaev in his first fight since a brutal knockout loss to rival Alex Pereira at UFC 320 this past October. Ankalaev was originally set to face Khalil Rountree Jr., but with Rountree forced to withdraw, in steps up-and-coming contender Bogdan Guskov. This is a change of plans for Guskov as well as he was lined up to rematch Jan Blachowicz at UFC Belgrade next week, only for the matchmakers to call upon him to save the UFC Abu Dhabi headliner.
For one reason or another, Ankalaev has seemingly never been a favorite of the UFC's shot-callers as it took a seven-year unbeaten streak for him to earn his first ******* le shot; now, he needs to stifle Guskov just to keep his spot in line. On the other side, Guskov is undefeated in his past five fights and suddenly finds himself with an opportunity to jump into the top 5 of the rankings.

While the Penn State Nittany Lions lost a lot of production in the 2026 NFL Draft, fans were already questioning whether or not several of Penn State's returning options could be seen as draft picks in 2027. Well, after an offseason of change, there certainly seems like the Nittany Lions have a new look about them. So when the Shriners East-West Bowl watch list came out, it should have been no surprise that Penn State was well represented on the list.
Most importantly, it pointed out a major early win for new head coach Matt Campbell. Not only did Penn State place nineteen total players on the watch list, but fifteen of them were transfers from this year's portal cycle. In fact, thirteen of them come from Matt Campbell's former school, Iowa State. The headliners of the list include QB Rocco Becht, linebackers Kooper Ebel, Caleb Bacon, and Tony Rojas, and wide receivers Brett Eskildsen and Chase Sowell.
The other two transfers on the list were influenced by new defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn after he came to Happy Valley from UCLA. Still, no matter the former programs each player represented, it's still highly impressive that in his first offseason, Matt Campbell was able to bring over such highly coveted talent. While the main question will still be about his future recruiting efforts, this offseason's transfer haul at least showed signs of positivity in terms of the program's direction.
Perhaps the craziest thing about several of the players on the list is that they may not all enter the draft at the same time. At least five or six players could return to Happy Valley at the end of this season. That continuity could prove to be more important than any preseason hype these players are getting. If they are already receiving this hype with multiple years of eligibility left, that's a good sign for Campbell's long-term planning with the squad.
The bottom line is that a lot of people are still high on the new talent in Happy Valley. The question of whether that translates to on-field success remains to be seen.

The UFC Fight Night 282 main event is locked in after Magomed Ankalaev and Bogdan Guskov did their jobs on the scale at Friday's official weigh-in.
Former light heavyweight champion Ankalaev (21-2-1 MMA, 12-2-1 UFC) will attempt to rebound from losing the belt to Alex Pereira in October when he clashes with surging contender Guskov (18-3-1 MMA, 4-1-1 UFC), who stepped into the fight on short notice after Khalil Rountree Jr. withdrew.
Despite serving as a replacement, Guskov had no issues on the scale as he hit 205.5 pounds. There was no drama for Ankalaev, either, because he registered at 205.5 pounds.
The stage is now set for Saturday's five-round headliner, which takes place at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, and streams on Paramount+ beginning at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT.

Detroit — Rocket Classic officials were crossing their fingers for one more big splash with the field for next week's tournament. And on Wednesday night, they sure got one.
Jordan Spieth will play in Detroit's PGA Tour tournament for the first time, tournament officials confirmed to The News.
Spieth, a three-time major champion who has won on the PGA Tour 13 times, pulled out of this week's 3M Open in Minnesota, leading to speculation he could make the Rocket Classic a late addition to his schedule with the PGA Tour playoffs looming. Spieth is 55th in the FedEx Cup standings, and while he's in good shape to make the first playoff event (top 70), the top 50 make the second playoff event and the top 30 make the huge-money Tour Championship.
The Rocket Classic, set for July 30-Aug. 2 at Detroit Golf Club, is the second-to-last regular-season tournament before the start of the PGA Tour playoffs.
Spieth, 32, hasn't won on the PGA Tour since 2022, but he remains a star and a big draw for fans. He joins headliners like Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka among the 145-player field for the eighth and final Rocket Classic. Like Spieth, Schauffele and Koepka are playing in the Rocket Classic for the first time.

Dricus Du Plessis' coach disagrees with Kamaru Usman's complaints throughout the UFC Fight Night 281 headliner.
Du Plessis (24-3 MMA, 10-1 UFC) gave Usman all he could handle on the feet this past Saturday at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. Usman (21-5 MMA, 16-4 UFC) was badly hurt on multiple occasions, but Morne Visser revealed the strategy was not to hunt for the finish.
Usman asked the referee to intervene during the fight when claiming that he was poked in the eye then later struck with a low blow.
"The game plan was 100 percent to completely stay composed, and that's what (Du Plessis) did," Visser told Submission Radio. "Obviously he listens very well to me, so I've never ever pushed him through the whole fight to push for the finish. I saw that Kamaru does recover very quickly after getting hit that hard and punched that hard in the face. I mean, he was out a couple of times on his feet, but I shouted very loudly to Dricus just to stay composed and pick the shots because a guy who recovers that quickly is dangerous. He's desperate.
"So, I am super, super happy with our results. I think this is the best I've seen Dricus ever or the world has seen him ever. This was a high-pressure fight. I mean, this was our comeback fight after 10, 11 months off. So, I'm very happy. And he listened. We never pushed for anything. We never pushed once for the finish, not even once. I mean, you saw Kamaru complaining about a low blow and the thumb or the finger, all nonsense. Dricus could have finished him there, but he was just not pushing. He was just respectful."

LSU football rebuilt its wide receiver room through the transfer portal this offseason. New head coach Lane Kiffin was tasked with fixing an LSU offense that was among the worst in the SEC last year -- the first task was getting talent in the door.
LSU did that at pass catcher. The headliner of the transfer receiver class is former Kansas State wideout Jayce Brown. Per On3, Brown was the No. 10-ranked wide receiver in the transfer portal and a top-40 transfer overall.
LSU needs a big-play threat to emerge. The Tigers could not create explosive plays in 2025, dragging down the entire offense. If LSU wanted to score, the Tigers were forced to sustain drives. Brown can change that.
Brown ranked fourth among qualified Big 12 wide receivers with 17.4 yards per catch in 2025. He was top 10 nationally with 10 catches going for 30 yards or more. Brown made the most of his time on the field, producing 2.85 yards per snap.
Those are the numbers you want to see from a WR jumping from the Big 12 to the SEC. Brown will face stiffer competition week to week, but big-play talent translates. In Brown, LSU isn't looking for a 1,200-yard, 14-touchdown wide receiver. The Tigers are counting on Brown to pop a couple of 20-yard plays per game.

Dan Hooker would like to see Conor McGregor close out his career in the ring.
McGregor (22-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) injured his right knee just 69 seconds into his rematch against Max Holloway (28-9 MMA, 24-9 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 329 headliner at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He is set to undergo surgery for what is suspected to be a torn ACL.
With McGregor sustaining another injury after a five-year layoff from a broken left leg, Hooker wonders if his body can handle competing in MMA anymore. He sees boxing as a better option for "The Notorious."
"I feel like we're just as excited to see Conor McGregor box one of these big-name guys for $100 million as we were before that fight," Hooker told Submission Radio. "To force him to squeeze out one more MMA fight where maybe his body can't – obviously boxing is a very difficult sport, but it's far less taxing all over on your body. I feel like boxers sustain a lot more head trauma than MMA fighters do, just the bigger gloves and just the duration of you're fighting 12 three-minute rounds with the cushioned gloves.
"I feel like they sustain a lot more head trauma, but I feel like all over the body, MMA's obviously a lot more taxing on your joints, and you get like niggly on all your ligaments and your knees, and you've got your back and your neck, and there's a lot more different places to get fatigued and get injured. So, it's just coming to a point now where maybe his body can't hold up in the MMA ***** e, and they should just let him box and earn some crazy money in his last couple of years of fighting."

Real American Freestyle (RAF) recently created a “Crossover Championship” **** le for those athletes crossing over from other sports to compete on the RAF wrestling mats. The new belt will debut as part of the RAF 11 lineup this weekend (July 18) at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena in Milwaukee, where UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan tangles with former UFC welterweight Colby Covington.
They are competing to be the champion of combatants who “cross over” but in the case of Covington, he’s not crossing back, having recently been released from his UFC contract. At the very least, it will be an opportunity for “Chaos” to win his first **** le after going 0-3 in fights for the undisputed UFC strap. Similarly, this will be the first **** le shot for Tsarukyan after “Ahalkalakets” botched his UFC 311 headliner back in early 2025.
This weekend’s headliner will be contested at catchweight for the cruiserweight championship.

With training camp only two weeks away, we're counting down the days until players are back on the field getting ready for the 2026 season. Warren McClendon Jr. is a key player to watch this year, entering Week 1 as a projected starter for the first time in his career.
After a successful stint filling in for Rob Havenstein last season, McClendon will be a cog in the offensive line this year. He'll be responsible for blocking the front side at right tackle, keeping Matthew Stafford upright and creating big holes for both Kyren Williams and Blake Corum.
McClendon enters the year as the Rams' 14th-most important player in our 2026 rankings.
Puka Nacua, Byron Young and Kobie Turner get all of the attention as the headliners from the Rams' 2023 draft class, but McClendon was also part of that group – and he was actually drafted three spots earlier than Nacua, so Los Angeles felt more strongly about him and than the former BYU receiver.
As the 174th overall pick in the fifth round, McClendon took his talents from Georgia to Los Angeles and though he was a backup for his first two seasons, he became a starter in 2025 after Havenstein got hurt.

Prior to that disappointment, several fighters put on star performances including Paddy Pimblett, Brandon Royval, Robert Whittaker, and Gable Steveson, but the fallout of the headliner is sure to cast a long shadow. After five years away from competition, McGregor (22-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) returned to rematch Max Holloway (28-9 MMA, 24-9 UFC) in Saturday's headliner at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The start of the fight was essentially the conclusion, because "The Notorious" came out with a jumping kick that ended in an awkward fall, and immediately it was clear it was going to end badly.
After a few more sequences where McGregor struggled to stay on his feet or throw any strikes with balance, referee Mike Beltran obliged to Holloway's encouragement to wave it off. The end came just 69 seconds after it began, and the lack of finality, given the pre-fight hype, was clear from everyone in the arena and watching at home.
"It was one of these things where there was nothing to take away from it," Sonnen told MMA Junkie on Sunday. "There was no redeemable quality. I would never kick a man when he's down. I would always help him up. I feel Conor can handle this: Conor knew. And in many ways, it was a very courageous thing. You've got all these Conor haters out there like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe this happened. Call him McFraud.' Maybe we didn't know that was what you were dealing with, but you did and you sucked it up and you made that walk anyway. There is another side of this. But ultimately the story is: We can't do this work anymore.
"It was too big of an ask. Was there a pre-injury? Yeah. We saw that. I was convinced that Conor was there mentally in the right place. … I think Conor mentally was in the right spot, but the contest is physical. We're remembering those kicks and everything else. There was one other moment, and it was the bad one for me where I go, 'We can't do this work anymore.' It was actually a punch. Conor threw a punch and he went down. He fell forward like a drunk guy. All the way to his knee. He hadn't thrown punches at full speed in so long, he lost his own balance doing it. No part of me is teasing. That was the real moment."
