An outstanding defensive performance and big games from Carson Correll and Hudson Shoaf helped the visiting West Davidson varsity football team claim a 40-6 win over Bishop McGuinness on Friday night.
The Dragons limited the Villains' rushing and passing attacks and had three sacks in the game.
West Davidson quarterback Correll had a huge game, running for 123 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. He also completed five of his nine passes for 179 yards and three touchdown passes. Shoaf caught two touchdown passes and had 136 yards receiving.

Despite all the jokes about the ferry, the comedians do have plans for the boat, and they're about to hold an event on it. On August 18, St. John's announced the signing of 6-foot-10 forward Reed Bailey, coming from Indiana. Entering his fifth collegiate season, Bailey now looks to put the 2025-26 season behind him and rediscover the form that made him one of the more intriguing players in the transfer portal.
Bailey posted 8.3 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 57% from the field last season at Indiana. After playing in a system that didn't maximize his strengths and being asked to play out of position, Bailey could have a much higher ceiling with the Johnnies.
The former three-star recruit comes from an athletic family. His father, Nathan, played basketball at Navy and Pittsburgh, while his mother, Linda, played volleyball at Pittsburgh. His siblings also competed collegiately across basketball and volleyball. Coming from Harvard, Massachusetts, Bailey wasn't heavily recruited, which ultimately led him to Davidson.
Bailey started all 97 games he played during his three seasons at Davidson. In those three seasons, Bailey was named Atlantic-10 Most Improved Player and First-Team All-Atlantic-10 after the 2024-2025 season. With this proven track record, Bailey became one of the premier transfer recruits, ranking 63rd in the portal, right behind future national champion Elliot Cadeau. BLOOMINGTON — Sam Alexis' eligibility for the forthcoming college basketball season was thrown in doubt Wednesday, when the Tennessee Court of Appeals issued a stay on a lower-court ruling granting several athletes an injunction against the NCAA's application of its new age-based eligibility model.
Alexis is one of a number of players who graduated high school in 2022 and played four years of college sports in that same ****** e of time seeking relief against the NCAA's decision to apply its new five-years-to-play-five rule only to athletes beginning with the ongoing academic year. Athletes across several sports and in several states have won relief against the ****** ociation's decision, granting those athletes an additional year of eligibility as well.
One of several athletes party to that filing, Alexis gained his fifth year when the Chancery Court of Davidson County, Tennessee, granted its injunction earlier this summer. Alexis played his first two years of college basketball at Chattanooga.
Indiana welcomed Alexis back into an open 13th scholarship, after coach Darian DeVries elected to leave one spot unfilled following his roster rebuild last spring. Now, Alexis' eligibility for 2026-27 is in limbo once more.
The appellate-court stay does not overrule the lower court's injunction. It simply stayed the injunction, and therefore the relief it provided plaintiffs in Alexis' case, while the higher court considers the NCAA's appeal.

It's showtime again in Chicago. Patrick Kane is back where it all began, signing a 2-year contract to likely finish his career as a Blackhawk.
Reactions were mixed, but most Blackhawks fans were thrilled to see him back where he belongs. The $8 million cap hit raised concerns, and many hockey fans were surprised by the high number. Regardless, the team has the cash, and they used it on a player whose value transcends the ice.
The truth is, Kane might be more of a business decision than a hockey decision. With Connor Bedard out to start the season, Kane will get fans at the United Center through the opening chapter of the year. Even after a lackluster offseason headlined by their star's injury, this signing alone has Blackhawks buzz at a recent high. Fans are excited, and the team should keep filling the United Center.
Of course, that doesn't mean Kane won't improve the team's overall quality. Had Kane played for the Blackhawks last year, he would have been third in total points and fourth in goals. Even playing just 67 games, Kane would have been an important offensive contributor. He provides stability in the top-six, an exits-and-entries game that the Blackhawks are desperate for, and he can help lead the power play to success that they struggled to find last season.
Additionally, and most obviously, is his leadership. Who better to lead a young group of Blackhawks than the man himself? Originally, Kyle Davidson wanted to move on from Kane so that the next generation could take over. Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies are reportedly interested in a newly eligible player.
South Alabama guard Chaze Harris, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year, has heard from Washington, SMU, and Seton Hall in the transfer portal after being granted an injunction to become eligible for the 2026-27 season, according to a report from 247Sports' Dushawn London.
Harris' injunction stems from similar cases around the country, granting fourth-year seniors who have recently graduated the opportunity to return to school in the wake of the NCAA's change to a 5-in-5 eligibility model that gave class of 2023 athletes and later the ability to play five years of competition. A similar injunction recently allowed Washington football defensive lineman Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei to return to the Huskies shortly after the beginning of fall practice.
What makes Washington's reported interest more confusing than all of the legalese, however, is that the Huskies' roster is full. Sprinkle's team has 15 players as of right now: Wesley Yates III, Nikola Dzepina, Mady Traore, Lathan Sommerville, Jasir Rencher, Rutgers transfer Harun Zrno, Davidson transfer Parker Friedrichsen, Gonzaga transfer Steele Venters, San Francisco transfer Ryan Beasley, Texas Tech transfer LeJuan Watts, Australian Tristan Devers, Croatian Boris Tišma, Brazilian Wini Braga Silva, freshman Lattimore Ford, and walk-on Brandon Roy Jr.
The Huskies added a 16th player - Dzepina - last season, but were only able to do so because Traore suffered a season-ending injury before the first game. In order to add Harris, a similar situation would need to occur. South Alabama guard Chaze Harris, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year, has heard from Washington, SMU, and Seton Hall in the transfer portal after being granted an injunction to become eligible for the 2026-27 season, according to a report from 247Sports' Dushawn London.
Harris' injunction stems from similar cases around the country, granting fourth-year seniors who have recently graduated the opportunity to return to school in the wake of the NCAA's change to a 5-in-5 eligibility model that gave class of 2023 athletes and later the ability to play five years of competition. A similar injunction recently allowed Washington football defensive lineman Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei to return to the Huskies shortly after the beginning of fall practice.
What makes Washington's reported interest more confusing than all of the legalese, however, is that the Huskies' roster is full. Sprinkle's team has 15 players as of right now: Wesley Yates III, Nikola Dzepina, Mady Traore, Lathan Sommerville, Jasir Rencher, Rutgers transfer Harun Zrno, Davidson transfer Parker Friedrichsen, Gonzaga transfer Steele Venters, San Francisco transfer Ryan Beasley, Texas Tech transfer LeJuan Watts, Australian Tristan Devers, Croatian Boris Tišma, Brazilian Wini Braga Silva, freshman Lattimore Ford, and walk-on Brandon Roy Jr.
The Huskies added a 16th player - Dzepina - last season, but were only able to do so because Traore suffered a season-ending injury before the first game. In order to add Harris, a similar situation would need to occur. Police were called to a high school soccer match in Huntersville last week after a 911 caller reported a large crowd was preparing to fight.

Huntersville police say between 200 and 400 people were at last Thursday's match between Hough High School and Community School of Davidson when the disturbance was reported.
A police spokesperson said officers did not witness any fighting, but they made sure the crowd left peacefully.
The 911 caller told police the match had to end early because of the disruption. The game is listed as a 1-1 draw between the two schools.

The Washington Commanders continue to churn the bottom of the roster. Over the weekend, the Commanders worked out several players and ended up signing three offensive linemen for depth. Another move Washington made over the weekend was moving fifth-year defensive tackle DJ Davidson to the reserve/retired list.
Davidson faced long odds of making Washington's 53-man roster, but it wasn't out of the question. So, the Commanders brought in several players on Monday for tryouts. There were eight players in total, and apparently Washington has made a move, signing veteran defensive tackle Byron Cowart, according to Commanders insider Ben Standig.
Cowart is a familiar name to locals, as he finished his collegiate career at the University of Maryland. A native of Seffner, Florida, Cowart was the No. 1 overall high school player in the country in the 2015 recruiting class, committing to Auburn, where he played for three seasons.
After his one year with the Terps, Cowart entered the 2019 NFL Draft, where he was a fifth-round pick of the New England Patriots. Cowart spent three seasons with the Patriots and was waived ahead of the 2022 season. He was claimed by the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent that season. In 2023, Cowart signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was released shortly thereafter. He quickly signed with the Houston Texans, but was again released during final cuts.
In Sept. 2023, Cowart signed with the Miami Dolphins practice squad, where he remained for that season. He signed with the Chicago Bears in 2024, where he spent that season. In 2025, Cowart was with the New York Jets, but was placed on injured reserve and later released.
