Hayden Panettiere, the actor who rose to fame as the indestructible cheerleader Claire Bennet on the hit NBC series Heroes, has died at the age of 36. Her representative confirmed the news on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through Hollywood and among fans who grew up watching her evolve from a child star into a primetime mainstay.
A representative for Panettiere confirmed her death. A cause of death was not immediately released. "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen," her rep said in a statement (via ABC News).
Hayden Panettiere possessed a rare longevity in an industry that often discards young talent. She began her career at just five years old, appearing in commercials before securing a four-year run as Sarah Roberts on the soap opera One Life to Live from 1994 to 1997. She followed that with a role as Lizzie Spaulding on The Guiding Light, making her a daytime television fixture before she reached double digits.
Her transition to film came swiftly. At age nine, she voiced a character in the animated Pixar feature A Bug's Life and appeared opposite Jennifer Aniston in The Object of My Affection. In 2000, she starred as the daughter of Denzel Washington's character in the sports drama Remember the **** ans.
In 2006, Panettiere landed the role that would define her career. Cast as Claire Bennet in Heroes, she became the emotional anchor of the superhero ensemble drama. The show's tagline, "Save the cheerleader, save the world," became a cultural catchphrase.

Hollywood is still reeling from the unexpected passing of Hayden Panettiere. She was only 36 years old, and a cause of death has not been released. While she has been a familiar face (and voice) to many since the '90s, her public appearances had petered out in the last few years, which means there will be those who do not have much information about the breadth of her career.
In the wake of this tragic event, this is a short compilation of where exactly audiences know her from.

Panettiere's career began at all of 11 months, appearing in a Playskool toy train commercial. From the age of four, she landed larger and larger roles on long-running soap operas like One Life To Live and Guiding Light, the latter of which got her widespread recognition for her portrayal of a child with leukemia.

It was August 19, 2022, a sultry summer's evening on the banks of the Wear, and there was an air of intrigue as we trooped to the Stadium of Light to witness what we all hoped would be a comfortable home victory over perennial Championship strugglers Rotherham United.
Despite a good start to the season with a new-look team, out of nowhere, we'd suddenly hit a pocket of turbulence.
In a classic 'hero to zero' gambit, Alex Neil had overseen a promising series of results before **** ing off to Stoke City, opting for an early checkout, lobbing the TV out of the window and leaving the contents of his suitcase strewn around the luxury suite on the top floor of the hotel.
After the inevitable fallout and speculation about who would replace Neil, in came Tony Mowbray, with the veteran boss tasked with guiding a young and callow yet talented Sunderland side through its first Championship campaign in five years.
In any event, the game was won comfortably, with Jack Clarke and Ross Stewart in particular proving too hot for the Millers to handle, yet it was the unveiling of four new signings – Abdoullah Ba, Jewison Bennette, Edouard Michut and Amad – that caught the attention at half-time.

It was just a normal Tuesday in our nation's capital. Washington Commanders training camp was underway. The Nationals were set to host the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series. Thus, Andy Pollin was doing what he's done for the last seven years at ESPN 630: being the guiding voice of the D.C. sports fan in the late morning, discussing the headlines and topics fans cared about.
However, that normal Tuesday took a turn immediately following Pollin's signing off from another day of programming.
"As I was wrapping up the show, the station manager came inside the studio. Which he's done in the past often with a smile and a compliment on the show. I could tell by the look on his face that wasn't it," explains Pollin. "He said he didn't want to do this, but it came from ***** ulus."
In an instant, Pollin went from wrapping up another Tuesday in D.C. to having his time at ESPN 630 come to an end. He found himself part of the nationwide ***** ulus Media layoffs that had already begun a week earlier.
During the first week of cuts, Pollin was on vacation, observing the headlines circulating in radio trades and on social media. When he returned from vacation, Pollin says he texted station ***** istant program director Mike Callow to see if he had heard whether Pollin should plan on hosting programs this past week. With no signs of impending cuts, Pollin moved forward as if it were a normal week.

New Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Elena Delle Donne was nearly moved to tears when highlighting the impact her sister, Lizzie, had on her life and career.
"Whenever I experienced my worst lows, burnout, injury, defeat (and) doubt, the lesson I needed was never on the court. It was at home, waiting for me - with my sister, Lizzie," Delle Donne said, voice quivering.
"For those of you who don't know, Lizzie is my big sister. She was born deaf and blind, has faced significant physical and developmental challenges throughout her life. She's never played in front of thousands of people. She's never had a standing ovation. She's never been interviewed after a big win. And yet I have never met anyone stronger."
Despite the many accolades that culminated in her Hall of Fame induction, Delle Donne has previously said her proudest accomplishment is being a sister to Lizzie, who also has cerebral palsy and autism. Being close to her older sister was Delle Donne's main motivation in leaving UConn to play at the University of Delaware, near her hometown, after a brief hiatus in college.
Delle Donne also said that once she learned she could play basketball at an early age, people would listen to her. She said she felt she needed to do something with her voice to inspire others. The WNBA legend explained that when she was younger, her friends were afraid of Lizzie. However, for Delle Donne, Lizzie was her "angel" and "guiding light."

Cristian Romero says he "wasn't perfect" during his time at Tottenham after his transfer to Atletico Madrid was confirmed.
The 28-year-old departs the north Londoners after a five-year spell at the club, joining the Spanish giants on a five-year deal in move worth £34.2 million.
Romero last played for Spurs in April against Sunderland, where a knee injury ruled him out for the rest of the campaign, however the defender was fit enough to play for Argentina on their run the World Cup final.
After joining from Atalanta in 2021, Romero made 156 appearances for the Lilywhites, guiding them to a first trophy in 17 years when they won the 2025 Europa League.
In a statement released on X, Romero said:

Qiagen (NYSE:QGEN) walked into its second quarter of 2026 bracing investors for a roughly 2% sales decline. Instead, net sales came in flat at $535 million on August 6, and adjusted diluted EPS hit $0.62, both ahead of the company's own outlook. For a diagnostics and life sciences supplier still working through the loss of discontinued product lines, beating a cautious bar is one thing. What happens next, as management leans on a stack of new launches to carry the back half of the year, is the more interesting question.
The company's so-called growth pillars, the businesses management is counting on to outpace the broader market, expanded 5% at constant exchange rates in the quarter. Sample Technologies led with 9% CER growth, driven by automated consumables and higher instrument sales. QIAcuity, the digital PCR platform, posted double-digit consumables growth even as weaker OEM demand offset some of that strength. QuantiFERON, the tuberculosis test that had flagged a sharp drop in US immigration testing demand back in the first quarter, still managed to return to growth as demand across other testing groups more than made up the difference.
Behind those numbers sits a wave of product activity. QIAsymphony Connect launched commercially, QIAsprint Connect placements are drawing what management called strong pharma customer acceptance, and two new bloodstream infection panels for QIAstat launched in Europe, detecting 33 pathogens and 28 resistance markers in about an hour, with US FDA approval targeted by year-end. Parse, the single-cell ****** ysis business, is running ahead of its roughly $40 million 2026 sales target and was selected for a NASA-supported research program aboard the International ****** e Station. Qiagen also completed a $500 million share repurchase in January and raised its annual dividend 40% to $0.35 per share.
The flat top line masks uneven performance underneath. Diagnostic solutions overall declined 2% at constant currency, and PCR and nucleic acid amplification sales fell 8%, with QIAstat-Dx down 7% as a tough prior-year comparison in respiratory testing outweighed gains in gastrointestinal and meningitis panels. Profitability also gave ground. Adjusted operating income fell 2% to $157 million, with the margin slipping to 29.4% from 29.9% a year earlier, and adjusted gross margin declined to 66.2% from 66.7% on product mix shifts.
Regionally, EMEA sales fell 2% CER as declines in Germany, France, and Italy outweighed gains elsewhere, and Asia Pacific sales fell 2% CER as China dropped in the low teens, even though it improved sequentially. Inventory days outstanding also climbed to 153 from 149, tied to stockpiling ahead of new launches. The company is now guiding to a jump from roughly negative 1% CER sales growth in the first half to 3% to 4% in the second half, a swing that leans heavily on new products, easier comparisons and the fading drag from discontinued lines all landing on schedule.

On August 10, Reuters reported that Sony Group (NYSE:SONY) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM) plan to spend around $6.3 billion on a joint venture to build next-generation microchips for image sensors. It pairs Sony's sensor design expertise with TSMC's manufacturing scale, and it lands while both companies already show momentum in their core businesses.
The venture will be owned about 60% by Sony and 40% by TSMC, with commercial production targeted to start as early as 2029 at a site in ****** an's ****** amoto prefecture. The companies first announced plans to form it in May, aiming to combine Sony's design know-how with TSMC's process technology, and the partnership will also explore physical artificial intelligence applications such as automotive and robotics. Sony is already the world's largest maker of image sensors, and TSMC is the world's largest contract chipmaker.
TSMC's own numbers explain why Sony wanted it as a partner. In its second-quarter report on July 16, revenue climbed about 34% year over year to $40.2 billion and net income jumped 77% to a record, with gross margin at 67.7% and operating margin at 60.3%. The newest 2-nanometer node made up just 3% of wafer revenue in the quarter, leaving a long runway as it scales.
Sony's results carry similar momentum. First-quarter operating profit rose 40% from a year earlier, prompting the company on July 31 to raise its full-year group operating profit forecast 8% to 1.72 trillion yen, citing tariff refunds, currency effects, and cost control. Sony also raised its outlook specifically for the image sensor business, pointing to higher sales and favorable exchange rates, while its gaming division stands to benefit from the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation.
TSMC's valuation still carries risk. Its market cap crossed $2 trillion again on July 30, yet shares trade at roughly 20 times forward earnings, about what an average large company costs, and management is guiding third-quarter gross margin down to 65% to 67% as the costly early phase of the 2-nanometer ramp works through its factories. TSMC also remains a cyclical manufacturer based mostly in Taiwan, so geopolitical tension is a risk no earnings report can erase, and heavy capital spending could pressure returns if AI demand cools before new capacity fills.

Airbnb (NASDAQ:ABNB) shares surged 17.4% on August 7, closing at their highest price in more than four years. The move followed second-quarter 2026 results, published on August 6, that cleared expectations on nearly every line. Revenue climbed 17% year over year to $3.6 billion, gross booking value rose 16% to $27.2 billion, and adjusted EBITDA jumped 21% to $1.3 billion. It was the kind of quarter that finally shifted the narrative around a stock that had spent years going nowhere.
Nights and seats booked rose 10% to 148.3 million, an acceleration from the first quarter, while GAAP EPS jumped from $1.03 to $1.37, well past the $1.22 **** ysts expected. Management didn't just clear the bar; it raised it for the rest of the year, guiding to at least mid-teens full-year revenue growth and an adjusted EBITDA margin of at least 35.5%, with third quarter revenue seen between $4.69 billion and $4.77 billion. The growth also broadened out. Net origin nights booked accelerated not only in newer expansion markets but in long-established ones too, including the US, France, the UK, and Australia, a sign the improvement is coming from product work rather than a one-time boost.
That product work shows up everywhere. Airbnb has rebuilt itself as what it calls an AI native company, cutting the time from concept to shipped feature by as much as 60% and shipping nearly 80% more features than a year earlier. Its AI **** istant, now live in more than 50 languages, resolves roughly 45% of support issues without a human agent, up from the first quarter, and has helped push customer support cost per booking down about 16% year-over-year. The company is also stretching past home rentals, adding boutique and independent hotels across more than 20 destinations along with grocery delivery, car rentals, airport pickups, and resort passes. Hotel nights booked grew roughly three times as fast as the core home business, and about 35% of first-time hotel guests come back to book a home, suggesting the expansion feeds the core rather than competing with it. With more than 9 million active listings across 220 countries and roughly 2 billion guest arrivals since 2008, Airbnb also sits on a depth of host history that AI rivals have little of their own to draw from.
None of this comes cheap. Airbnb has long carried a valuation premium tied to growth expectations, and a stock that just hit a four-year high raises the bar for what needs to keep going right. Reported free cash flow also leans on a non-cash boost, since stock-based compensation made up roughly 34% of operating cash flow in fiscal 2025, meaning some of that cash generation isn't as clean as the headline number suggests. Regulation is a live risk too. New European Union rules taking effect in May 2026 require more transparency and data sharing from short-term rental platforms, adding compliance costs on top of restrictions cities like New York have already imposed.

UEFA has announced the launch of Clear Line, a repository of refereeing situations.
The platform is set to offer guidance of how the Laws of the Game should be interpreted along with VAR intervention with the aim of bringing a more consistent application of decisions.
The organization added that Clear Line has more than 150 refereeing scenarios guiding on law interpretation and when VAR should or should not intervene at both domestic and UEFA competition level. It also reinforces that video review should only be used for clear and obvious errors.
UEFA Refereeing Director Roberto Rosetti said: "Clear Line is designed to provide clear and precise guidance to match officials across European football, helping to ensure greater consistency in decision-making across competitions and a more standardized approach to the use of VAR for the benefit of the game.
"While no two incidents are ever identical and occasional mistakes remain inevitable, Clear Line will provide a central reference point for players, coaches, commentators and fans, helping to explain the rationale behind refereeing decisions and promoting a greater understanding of the decision-making process."

Ipswich's previous recruitment model can be traced back to their four seasons in League One.
After guiding Town back to the Championship in 2023, Kieran McKenna admitted the club had made a "conscious decision" not to target overseas players because of the fast and frantic nature of England's third tier.
A largely unchanged – but tightly knit – squad then exceeded expectations by finishing second in the Championship in 2023-24, making Ipswich the first side in 12 years to reach the Premier League through back-to-back promotions.
At that point, the Blues' hierarchy could have ripped up the modus operandi that had served them so well and pivoted towards more extensive overseas recruitment. Instead, they doubled down on the approach, focusing mainly on emerging domestic talent largely unproven beyond the Championship.
A £100m summer spending spree brought Omari Hutchinson, Jack Clarke, Liam Delap, Dara O'Shea and Jacob Greaves to Portman Road – players who had primarily shone in the second tier but were identified as having the potential to develop into established Premier League performers.

Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG) is buying its way into wellness. On August 4, L Catterton announced it had signed a definitive agreement to sell Thorne, a science-backed health and wellness brand, to Procter & Gamble for $3.8 billion in cash. The deal lands a day after an August 3 ****** ysis flagged a fiscal 2027 earnings guide that came in below expectations, weighed down by roughly $1 billion in new cost headwinds. Investors now have two stories to weigh at once: fresh expansion and a tougher near-term cost picture.
The Thorne acquisition gives Procter & Gamble entry into a category built on clinical credibility rather than shelf ****** e. Thorne has spent 40 years building relationships with healthcare practitioners, and L Catterton's announcement noted the company developed a proprietary AI wellness advisor to help consumers navigate its supplement lineup, a tool practitioners can point their patients to directly.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, an all-cash deal with no debt or equity swapped into the mix. Procter & Gamble isn't skimping on shareholders while it shops, either. The company returned $10.2 billion in dividends and $5.0 billion in share repurchases during fiscal 2026, and it plans roughly the same combination, about $10 billion in dividends and $5 billion in buybacks, for fiscal 2027. There's a case buried inside the company's own guidance, too. Strip out the roughly $1 billion in commodity, energy, and transportation costs management expects to absorb next year, and core EPS would be growing at about 10% instead of the 0% to 3% baked into the outlook.
The numbers behind the fiscal 2027 outlook explain the caution. Management guided core EPS to $6.89 to $7.11, implying growth of just 0% to 3%, and pointed to roughly $1 billion in after-tax commodity, energy, and transportation costs as the main culprit. Add higher net interest expense, lower non-operating income, and unfavorable currency, and the total drag reaches $0.56 per share, wiping out about 8 percentage points of core earnings growth before the year even starts.
The trend already shows up in recent results. In the fiscal fourth quarter, net sales rose 2% year-over-year to $21.2 billion while organic sales were flat, and core EPS fell 3% to $1.43. For the full fiscal year, net sales grew 3% to $87.0 billion, but organic sales rose only 1%, and every bit of that growth came from higher prices rather than more units sold. Volume and mix didn't move. Shares trade near $144, about 5% above their 52-week low of $137.62, or roughly 21 times fiscal 2026 core earnings of $6.89. That's not an expensive multiple, but it isn't cheap for a business guiding to low-single-digit growth.

DAZN, 5:00 am ET Teremoana Teremoana vs DeAndre Savage
From Gold Coast, Australia. Teremoana was a breakout from the 2024 Paris Olympics, arguably the 2nd best in the big boy division. Unfortunately, he caught a bad bracket and had to face professional Olympian Bakhodir Jalolov before the medal rounds. But, he earned himself enough attention to kickstart a pro career, and headlines the show in just his 12th professional outing. Savage is a 35 year old American with an 11-1 (11 KO) record, and much will be said about that in the commentary buildup to the main event. But, he's fought most of his career in Colombia and Mexico, and his two fights in the USA resulted in a no contest and his only pro loss. Michael Zerafa appears in support here against BoxRec's 194th ranked middleweight, Alejandro Ortiz. Teremoana is very exciting… But, a 5 am Wednesday start for a relatively unknown prospect isn't exactly a live coverage gold mine. So, this will be a follow along thread in The Feed!, and I'd expect at least one or two of the staffers here to jump in for the main event.
From Johnson City, Tennessee. It's the greatest event in the boxing-adjacent business, and arguably one of the greatest sporting shows of any kind in modern America. If you're new to the Brawl, here's the recap of Brawl #13 . Dozens of amateur fights with three one-minute rounds, fast pace, lots of action and excitement, and an unconventional but delightful commentary team guiding you through it all. The main event here features Frankie LaPenna, a Michigan man who apparently got online famous doing videos while wearing a fake ****** , taking on brawl regular Sasquatch. Catfish Cooley is out from commentary again, with Stalekracker, a former police officer who now cooks Cajun food online to promote his thriving spice business and has a vibe that can best be described as a hybrid of Guy Fieri and Dog the Bounty Hunter, subbing in as a guest. Many beloved favorites return, including Tennessee Cornbread, Lil' Smokey, Man Bear Pig vs Hook Hogan, Big Daddy T, and Lil' Terry fighting Lil' Fire after Fire knocked out Terry's brother Larry in 10 seconds in the last brawl. It's $22.99, and it's the best entertainment value you'll ever get.
ON THE UNDERCARD: Let's spotlight some exciting new names, shall we? How about The Intubator? Can House Arrest handle the Macho Man? Any interest in The Toothless ****** assin or Take-A-Shot Brandi? Wet Willie? One Leg Big Ed? Discount Destroyer? Mullet Trash? And, which will be the lady fight of the night? Throat Goat vs Big Thumper? Or 1st Class White Trash vs Trainwreck Tracy?
From Atlanta, Georgia, for Scott's WBC and WBA middleweight ****** les. Shields is the self proclaimed "GWOAT," ("Greatest Woman of All Time, presumably because Fran Drescher's lawyers are very protective of copyright) and effectively out of real challenges because of the talent gap between her and anyone near her size. In a memo sent to team presidents, general managers and coaches Friday, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert advised the league's leaders on their approach to the topic of transgender participation in women's sports. The commissioner stressed approaching it with integrity and respect, without specifically defining the league's stance.
The issue has dominated conversation around the WNBA in the wake of Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham's recent comments in favor of excluding trans athletes from women's sports.
Engelbert listed three guiding principles for the league in the discussion but did not clarify whether or not trans athletes are allowed to play in the WNBA.
"First, we will always approach this topic thoughtfully, respectfully, and in alignment with the long-standing values of our league," she wrote in the memo, a copy of which was obtained by The Athletic. "Second, our player eligibility rules, unlike the eligibility rules of some other leagues and governing bodies, are collectively bargained. Lastly, preserving the integrity of our game and ensuring fair competition will always remain among the league's highest priorities."
There is no mention of trans athletes in the WNBA's collective bargaining agreement, although the document does state that "only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA."

Aug. 8—Andrew Todd had his hands on the football quite a bit last season.
The Fisher junior compiled a team-high 725 rushing yards on a team-high 113 carries during his sophomore season in 2025 with the Bunnies. Todd will once again have his hands on the ball quite a bit during the upcoming 2026 season.
Just in a different way.
After playing fullback last season with the Bunnies, Todd is moving to quarterback this season. He'll get his first chance under center at 7 p.m. on Aug. 21 when Fisher hosts ****** berland at Kellar Field in the Lincoln Prairie Conference debut for the Bunnies.
A conversation third-year Fisher coach Jeff Palmer had with his son, Jake, this offseason prompted the potential of Todd moving positions. Jake coached the Bunnies from 2016-2021, guiding Fisher to three playoff berths and two postseason victories, including its most recent one in both categories in 2019.

Microsoft's growth story is undeniable, but its latest earnings call revealed the one question that truly matters: who is paying for the large AI buildout, and what happens if they stop?
After a year of underperforming the S&P 500, Microsoft (MSFT) stock has been climbing again, powered by an AI narrative that seems unstoppable. But on its latest earnings call, the real story was not the impressive growth, but the large spending required to generate it. The entire Q&A session circled one central question: with the company investing at a historic pace, is the return on that capital both real and defensible?
The justification for the spending spree starts with Azure's stunning growth. Azure's revenue grew 43% this quarter, a figure that prompted ***** ysts to probe the underlying drivers. Management's response was clear: the growth is real, and it is constrained by supply, not demand. The company stated that "Customer demand continues to exceed available capacity." In fact, the better-than-expected results were partly driven by engineering teams getting more out of the existing infrastructure and bringing new capacity online faster. Every efficiency gain, the CFO noted, was "quickly monetized" because the demand was already there waiting. This paints a picture of a company racing to build factories for a product that sells before it even hits the shelf.
If the demand is so strong, what is the risk? That was the core of the sharpest challenge of the call, a direct question about the danger of overbuilding and the pressure of rising component prices. The concern is that Microsoft is spending billions on a gold rush, and could be left with expensive, empty data centers if demand normalizes. Management's answer focused on flexibility. The CFO explained that the majority of capital spending is on "short-lived ***** ets" like CPUs and GPUs, not the buildings themselves. If the demand environment changes, the company can simply slow down orders for those components. The response was a direct attempt to reframe the large CapEx number from a fixed risk to a variable, manageable cost. It was a solid, logical answer, though the real test of that flexibility has yet to come.
In the end, management projects confidence, guiding for another year of double-digit revenue and operating income growth. The adoption of services like Microsoft 365 Copilot, which now has over 30 million paid seats, supports that optimism. We recently looked at what investors are paying for at these levels in a separate piece. But the company also gave a crucial tell in its own guidance: for the full fiscal year, operating margins are expected to be "down less than 1 point." That single data point acknowledges the pressure from this investment cycle. The thing to watch next quarter is that margin figure. If it holds steady, it means the company is successfully navigating the costs of its AI ambition. If it slips, the question of who pays for all this will get much louder.

WAPAKONETA — The second day of the 174th Auglaize County Fair found 4-H families at the Horse Arena for the annual Horse and Pony Show, with competitions kicking off at 9 a.m. and continuing late into the evening.
The Junior Fair showcases and competitions are organized by the Auglaize County Junior Fair Board, comprised of local youth in a 4-H club, vocational agricultural or family and consumer science group, Junior Grange, Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts units or Farm Bureau Youth Council.
Monday's exhibition was organized by Horse Chair Ollie Chisholf, 18, a member of the Buckeye Beavers 4-H Club in St. Marys.
"This is the pleasure show for the junior fair horses," he explained. "A lot of people know the horse shows for the speed and the barrels and the poles, but this is showmanship, horsemanship."
Pleasure shows evaluate a horse's disposition, gait and manners, or how "pleasureable" they are to ride. 4-H members ages 6 through 18 demonstrated their showmanship and control over their horses by guiding them through a series of intricate "patterns."

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar paid a heartfelt tribute to his late mentor, Ramakant Achrekar, on the occasion of Guru Purnima, expressing gratitude for the coach who laid the foundation of his legendary career. The batting great shared pictures from his visit to Achrekar's memorial at Mumbai's Shivaji Park and reflected on the invaluable lessons his coach imparted, both on and off the field.
In an emotional message posted on social media, Tendulkar wrote:
"Standing here today, I realised something. No matter how many years pass, I'll always feel like I have one more 'thank you' left to say. Thank you for believing in me, guiding me, and helping me become the person I am. Happy Guru Purnima, Achrekar Sir."
Achrekar was instrumental in nurturing Tendulkar's talent during his formative years at the famous Shivaji Park. Known for his strict discipline and emphasis on hard work, the veteran coach played a crucial role in developing Tendulkar's technique, temperament, and dedication, qualities that later defined one of the greatest careers in cricket history. Over the years, Tendulkar has repeatedly acknowledged Achrekar's influence, often crediting him for preparing him to handle the pressures of international cricket from a young age.
A memorial honouring Ramakant Achrekar was unveiled at Shivaji Park in 2024, celebrating his immense contribution to Indian cricket. Tendulkar attended the unveiling ceremony, paying tribute to the man widely regarded as one of the country's most influential cricket coaches.
Sachin Tendulkar concluded his legendary 24-year international cricketing career as the highest run-scorer and century-maker in the history of international cricket. Making his international debut for India at the tender age of 16 in 1989, he played continuously until his emotional farewell at his home ground in Mumbai in November 2013. He widely represents the gold standard of modern batting, finishing with 34,357 international runs and an unprecedented 100 international centuries.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is still in the running to earn the No. 1 overall spot on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026 list this summer.
According to the NFL's Grant Gordon, Maye is one of 12 contenders with viable shots at earning the top spot in this year's NFL 100 rankings after his superb season in 2025.
"2025 AP NFL Most Valuable Player runner-up was youngest player in NFL history to lead league in completion percentage (72.0, team record); Pro Bowler also led league in passer rating (113.5) and passing yards per attempt (8.9), ultimately guiding Patriots to Super Bowl LX," Gordon wrote.
Maye had a season of note in 2025. He was one of the most successful players in the league from an individual and team standpoint last season. In only his second NFL season, he racked up 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions, earning All-Pro honors for his efforts.
Los Angeles Rams star and AP MVP Matt Stafford, as well as Rams star and AP Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett have the best chance to claim the top spot on the NFL 100 this year.

When you are reading this, we will be TWO WEEKS AWAY from the start of the Marquette women's soccer season!
We'll do a lot more season previewing as we get closer to the start of action, but for now, we have to beat the league office to the punch. Last year, we got the preseason Big East awards just a couple of days before the Golden Eagles got going with their season. That means we have to get waaaaaay out in front of the official results of the polling of the league's women's soccer coaches and make some picks for who is going to get honored as the season gets started. My guiding light on these picks is, as always, trying to predict how the coaches will vote. I have my own preferences as to how things should turn out, but at the end of the day, the goal is to try to get these right.
Okay, let's jump right into it, as we've got three individual awards to discuss, as well as a preseason all-conference team and a predicted order of finish for all 11 teams in the Big East!
These things don't have to be complicated: Kohls is the leading returning point scorer in the Big East this season. She had six goals and eight ***** ists last season for the Musketeers for a total of 20 points. Here's the catch: Since the last time the Big East updated the stats for last season was on November 10th, before the NCAA tournament started, Kohls was tied for eighth in total points a year ago and tied for ninth in points per game. She's still the best returning player. Part of that is because there were A LOT of seniors on the All-Big East teams last fall, and another part is because two players in front of Kohls transferred after the season was over. That includes her own teammate, Samantha Erbach, who was the top scorer in the Big East last year with 18 goals and 16 ***** ists, but now she's at Florida State.
I'm going by the points and points per game here, because I value the contribution of ***** ists to offensive production. Sometimes the coaches don't agree with me on that topic, and so I should note that the Big East's top returning goal scorer from last season is Marquette's Jocelyn Leigh, who finished the year with seven. That was tied for eighth in the league in total goals and alone in sixth for goals per game as of the last time the league ran the stat sheet. Marquette was third in the Big East in team goals for as of November 10th with only Georgetown and Xavier in front of them, so there's an argument for Leigh to get the nod here.
