Hayden Panettiere, the former child actor who became a household name as an indestructible cheerleader on "Heroes" before starring as a troubled country singer on "Nashville," has died. She was 36.

Born Aug. 21, 1989, in Palisades, New York, Panettiere began appearing in commercials before her first birthday. She went on to roles in "One Life to Live," "Guiding Light," "A Bug's Life," "Remember the ****** ans" and "Ice Princess."
Her breakout role came in 2006 as Claire Bennet, a high school cheerleader with regenerative powers, on NBC's "Heroes." The character inspired the show's signature slogan: "Save the cheerleader, save the world."
Panettiere later starred opposite Connie Britton as ambitious country singer Juliette Barnes on the ABC and CMT drama "Nashville." The six-season role showcased her acting and singing abilities and earned her two Golden Globe nominations.
