The Cincinnati Enquirer once again is offering a new weekly feature recognizing the accomplishments of cheerleaders, dance team members and their squads: The Spirit Award.
Much like the popular athlete of the week voting, school fans and friends voted on two weekly ballots (individual and team) for The Spirit Award. Only coaches can provide nominations each week, either for their squads or other teams.
Eligible are varsity girls and boys cheerleaders and dancers who exemplify the fruits of the spirit ‒ love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – while uplifting their squads, the student body and others. Team nominations focus on squads that come together to help each other, work hard, do things right that week, show outstanding virtues when dealing with or serving others, exceed expectations to prepare something special for the school or take part in any other honorable reason they might be acknowledged.
This week's Spirit Award winners are:
"She is an outstanding example of leadership, character, and service within our school community. Jim Curtis has opened up about his relationship with Jennifer Aniston and the every day routine he follows when he is with the star in Los Angeles.
In a new interview with The Times, the author shared that he likes to wake up at 7am and do sit-ups in bed. If Jim is based in Los Angeles, he'll make sure to feed Jennifer's three dogs, Clyde, Sophie and Lord Chesterfield, and make coffee. His breakfast consists of a hard-boiled egg or some fruit, followed by meditation and journalling. Jim splits his time between Jennifer's $21 million home in Bel Air and his apartment in New York.
"We take real responsibility to go within and understand and soothe ourselves," Jim said of his and Jennifer's shared spirituality. " So we meditate together. I meditate and I'll say things like 'I'm divinely guided', meaning I don't have to worry, it's all working out."

Detroit is still without a permanent general manager, and training camp opens Sept. 17. Shawn Horcoff is running day-to-day operations on an interim basis, with one significant restriction: he cannot make trades. Chris Ilitch has brought in an outside search firm, and the list of outside names has already been trimmed.
Most of the attention has gone to the candidates coming from other organizations. But three of the most credible Red Wings GM candidates already work in the building, and the Wings need to at least consider looking at them.
Steve Yzerman's tenure in Detroit was less than fruitful; fans and ******* ysts both tried to stay faithful to the so-called "Yzerplan." Yzerman stepped down on July 15 after seven seasons that produced zero playoff berths, and he remains with the organization as a senior adviser to Ilitch rather than having been fired outright. During his tenure there seemed to be no urgency to help the team make it back to the playoffs, even though they were within range the past three seasons.
Now, this is not the complete fault of Yzerman, as he was handcuffed by Chris Ilitch. Reports have come out that Yzerman needed approval from Ilitch on certain deals, more specifically signing Steven Stamkos as a free agent, just to see him put up productive seasons — 69 goals across two campaigns for the Nashville Predators, 27 in his first year and 42 in his second.
Yzerman's highlights of acquisitions for the team are trading for Alex DeBrincat and signing Patrick Kane coming off hip surgery. He also had his fair share of misses, such as Andrew Copp ($5.625 AAV/5 years), J.T. Compher ($5.100 AAV/5 years), Michael Rasmussen ($3.200 AAV/4 years), Vladimir Tarasenko ($4.750 AAV/2 years), and the list can go on. He made poor contract extensions and signed aging superstars to try and get any juice that they had left.

The Buffalo Bills haven't been to the Super Bowl in 33 seasons, when they lost their fourth consecutive appearance against the Cowboys after the 1993 season. The Bills' NFL existence without a ring, however, will end when they return and win Super Bowl 61 as the best overall team in 2026.
The Josh Allen Era, going back to his breakout second season as Buffalo's starting quarterback in 2019, has been fruitful. The Bills have been to the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons and their run of five straight AFC East ******* les ended last year to the eventual AFC champion Patriots.
Although those Bills playoff trips all have ended in losing disappointment — four times in the divisional round, twice in the AFC ******* le game — those were with coach Sean McDermott. The Bills had gone 83-33 in the regular season since '19 and didn't have enough to show for it the postseason, prompting the team to fire McDermott and promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady to replace him.
So why is there renewed confidence to get to and win the Super Bowl after the '26 season, despite having a 36-year-old rookie head coach? There are good vibes that Allen, the 2024 NFL MVP, will benefit from having a direct line to Brady, with whom he has a great relationship.

Every baseball fan is familiar with the scam known as the shell game— after all, it's present, in more innocuous form, in the cap shuffle ubiquitous to scoreboards. Tonight Zack Wheeler offered the visiting Braves a shell game, tempting them with three baserunners through three at-bats… but when the Braves selected their shell, there weren't very many runs underneath.
The start was rather subpar for the home crowd, with Wheeler allowing a pair of singles to the first two Braves, then walking Matt Olson to load the bases with none away. But a pop fly and a strikeout (aided by a canny ABS challenge from J.T. Realmuto) put him just a single out away from pulling off the great escape. Ozzie Albies flew out to center, and the Braves trudged back to the dugout with the dreaded ****** LETIGER (No Outs, Bases Loaded, Ending in Team Incapable of Getting Easy Runs, it's a real term) nipping at their heels.
But the Phillies would give Atlanta starter Martin Pérez a rougher start. Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner worked walks to start off the game, with the former dashing for third on a fly out from Bryce Harper, and slipping right past the tag. A single to right from Luis Arraez scored him, and the bases were then loaded on a walk of Alec Bohm. Realmuto walked to bring in a run (an ABS challenge on ball four proved fruitless for the visitors). The inning ended when Ronald Acuña Jr, looking truly superb, leapt into the air to turn a line drive from Bryson Stott into out number three.
Wheeler's second inning of work was a far smoother affair, with three up and three down. Pérez could not say the same. Derek Hill lined a ball to right, and Acuña suddenly looked far less superb, stumbling and allowing Hill to reach third. He then scored when Matt Olson bobbled a grounder at first.
The roller coaster ride that is Ronald then took another sudden swerve in the top of the third as he sent a Wheeler sweeper deep, deep into the left field seats. But the Phillies were certainly not inclined to let themselves be outslugged in their own ballpark: in the bottom of the fourth, Schwarber knocked a Pérez pitch over the fence in right. Two more hits, both with two outs, ensued, and Pérez's night ended.

MLB is either extremely optimistic about ongoing labor talks between the owners and the players or the league is looking to set a possible point of no return for those negotiations. Amid significant labor unrest between both sides, the league announced Friday a start date for 2027 spring training.
On Feb 19, 2027, all 30 MLB teams will take their respective fields in Arizona and Florida for the first day of spring training, the league said.
From MLB press release today: "Major League Baseball today announced that 2027 Spring Training will officially begin on Friday, February 19th with all 30 Clubs in action across Arizona’s Cactus League and Florida’s Grapefruit League." I call that Labor Optimism!
Ten days prior to that, teams are allowed to begin spring training workouts, per the league's announcement.

Del Monte Corp. has entered a joint venture in China for the sale of fresh-cut fruit products.
The New York-listed company, which traded as Fresh Del Monte Produce until undergoing a corporate name change in June, has inked a partnership with Riverking (Shanghai) Agricultural Technology Development Co.
In a statement, Riverking was described as a "leading integrated private fruit enterprise".
Del Monte said the joint venture has been struck through its Hong Kong subsidiary Del Monte Fresh Produce (HK) to take advantage of "China's rapidly growing fresh-cut fruit market".
According to Del Monte's 2025 annual report, Asia accounted for 9% of its total sales last year of $4.32bn. Fresh and "value-added" products generated $2.62bn for the group as a whole and bananas $1.49bn. "Other" products made up the rest.

The USC Trojans got a lot of great news from their second official depth chart release of the season. Many stars will be returning and potentially making their season debut. The Trojans' defense and offense should get a big boost with key players coming back. Many freshmen will still be in position to have another big game against Fresno State.
Here is what we learned about the Trojans' depth chart release prior to Game 2:
Tanook Hines was the first receiver listed on the depth chart, and that bodes well for his availability for Game 2. Tanook Hines already has a great connection with Jayden Maiava, and I expect that to show up vs Fresno State. I would not be surprised if Lincoln Riley and Maiava look to him early and often in this game to ramp him up. The Trojans' offense will have some fireworks with Hines' season debut.
Sophomore Corey Sims showed great flashes of being a big weapon for Jayden Maiava in Game 1. He was amazing all camp and offseason, and in Game 1 everything came to fruition for him. He is now looked at as one of the top receivers for the Trojans. The official depth chart for Week 1 directly reflects that.
Tron Baker was listed as a starter for another week in the category. Meaning he is held in high regard by the staff. Baker was another receiver who shined in Game 1. Baker posted a stat line of 4 catches for 45 yards. He caught the first pass out of the young receivers. He will continue to be heavily involved in the offense in Game 2.

GOAT debates in combat sports are often fruitless — beyond having to compare fighters from different weight classes, different levels of competition and different millennia, we're reliably confused by both recency bias and the glow of nostalgia. We find it hard to ignore charisma and correct for its absence. We're biased, hopelessly so, and there are far too many pitfalls on the landscape. So it is refreshing then, although incredibly rare, for a fighter in the debate to transcend the question altogether.

The Cincinnati Reds signed free agent infielder Orlando Arcia to a minor-league contract on Tuesday, Sept. 1, according to the MLB transactions page.
Arcia, who turned 32 last month, has been ******* igned to Triple-A Louisville, the team announced on social media.

ESPN's NFL Live will have some new competition this season, or maybe it's old competition depending on how you look at it.
Front Office Sports reported Trey Wingo is getting the band back together, launching a new NFL show and YouTube channel with former ESPN colleagues Merril Hoge, Mark Schlereth, and Damien Woody. The OG Football Crew will debut with a NFL season preview Sept. 7, with the show continuing through the Super Bowl.
Wingo teased the idea a few weeks ago, quoting a social media post praising Hoge by saying, "What if I told you. We were putting the band back together?" It became clear Wingo was being serious about the idea when he added "stay tuned" with a link to his YouTube channel. Two weeks later, the idea seems to be coming to fruition just in time for the NFL regular season.

Former Missions catcher Ethan Salas, the No. 1 overall prospect in the San Diego organization, was called up on Tuesday from Triple-A El Paso, the team announced.

Target (NYSE: TGT) has an incredible dividend history, with 50 consecutive annual dividend increases. That makes it a Dividend King, an elite group that not every company can join. Target has a strong business model that is executed well in both good times and bad. The company is currently working its way out of a bad time, but after gaining 66% in 2026, as of this writing, is there still any value left in the shares?
Target is a mass-market retailer, but it tends to focus on offering a higher-quality shopping experience. That generally means nicer stores, a more pleasant shopping environment, and higher prices than those of its main peer, Walmart (NASDAQ: WMT), which has an everyday low-price focus. As elevated inflation levels pressured consumers' budgets, Target was out of step with the market.

That plan began to bear fruit in 2026, leading to renewed market interest in the stock. In the first quarter, sales rose 6.7%, with same-store sales up 4.4%. The second quarter proved that it wasn't a fluke, with sales up 5.3% and same-store sales rising by 3.8%.
That 66% price advance is a very big move in a very short period of time. In fact, it has pushed the company's price-to-sales and price-to-earnings ratios above their five-year averages. That suggests the big value opportunity here is gone, but you have to keep in mind that the stock was deeply depressed due to weak financial performance. So the five-year averages could be skewed low.

Much like the popular athlete of the week voting, school fans and friends voted on two weekly ballots (individual and team) for The Spirit Award. Only coaches can provide nominations each week, either for their squads or other teams.
Eligible are varsity girls and boys cheerleaders and dancers who exemplify the fruits of the spirit ‒ love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – while uplifting their squads, the student body and others. Team nominations focus on squads that come together to help each other, work hard, do things right that week, show outstanding virtues when dealing with or serving others, exceed expectations to prepare something special for the school or take part in any other honorable reason they might be acknowledged.

The Seattle Seahawks concluded their final rounds of roster cuts following their 9-9 preseason finale tie against the Kansas City Chiefs. They have also officially set their 53-man roster as they gear up to take on the New England Patriots to kick off the 2026 NFL season in Week 1. However, on their roster you will only see three running backs: Jadarian Price, George Holani and Emanuel Wilson.
Unfortunately, the reason for this is because the Seahawks have placed their otherwise presumed starting running back Zach Charbonnet on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. This is unsurprising, considering Charbonnet suffered his ACL injury during the 41-6 blowout victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Given how late in the season this occurred, the beginning of the season was always going to be off the table for Charbonnet. Still, it's a cold splash of reality to see it actually come to fruition.
Charbonnet was one of the more critical, yet perhaps a little underrated, cogs in the Seahawks' offensive machine last season. The former UCLA product had 730 rushes and 12 rushing touchdowns. In fact, Charbonnet became the first Seattle running back to have double-digit rushing touchdowns since Marshawn Lynch had 13 during the 2014 campaign.
Of course, arguably the most important play of the season was Charbonnet's heads up decision to pick up the ball during Seattle's comeback win over the Los Angeles Rams. This was later ruled to be a successful two-point conversion which tied the game, and the Seahawks would eventually go on to win in overtime.
Charbonnet will miss games against the Patriots, Cardinals, Commanders and Chargers. The earliest he could be allowed to return will be the Week 5 home game against the San Francisco 49ers, but even that feels unlikely. Seahawks Wire will continue to monitor his health status moving forward.

After IndyCar and promoter Green Savoree Racing Promotions made a poor first impression – having to call off Friday's practice session – at their new street race in Markham, Ontario, it wasn't clear what awaited for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, although this race was promoted by Penske Entertainment with ****** istance from Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Harbinger.
"Honestly, I was worried just because how Canada had gone," Boles told IndyStar in an exclusive interview.

Italian food-and-drinks group NewPrinces is dipping its toe into energy drinks, with the launch of a brand called Spartan in its home market.
In a post on LinkedIn, the fruit juices and soft drinks maker said the energy drinks line is being sold through Carrefour stores in Italy.
NewPrinces struck a deal to acquire Carrefour's operations in the country last year, as part of what it then described as "vertical integration between production and distribution".
The deal gave NewPrinces, which is one of Italy's largest food manufacturers, ownership of over 1,000 stores in the country.
Spartan is available in "original" and sugar-free versions. The drinks are "enriched with vitamin B6 and a source of vitamin B12", the group said in its social media post.

NewPrinces struck a deal to acquire Carrefour's operations in the country last year, as part of what it then described as "vertical integration between production and distribution".
The deal gave NewPrinces, which is one of Italy's largest food manufacturers, ownership of over 1,000 stores in the country.
Spartan is available in "original" and sugar-free versions. The drinks are "enriched with vitamin B6 and a source of vitamin B12", the group said in its social media post.

Stock Spirits Group has secured a listing in the UK for some of its Sierra RTD Tequila ******* tails with local big-box retailer Morrisons.
The group sold its lime and strawberry-flavoured Tequila RTDs in UK Lidl stores last year for a limited period.
"Morrisons is our first full listing for the RTDs", Rob Curteis, managing director of Stock Spirits' UK distributor The Drinks Company, told Just Drinks.
The group's 6% abv Sierra Grapefruit Paloma and Lime Margarita RTDs will be available at 460 Morrisons supermarkets from 7 September, a statement from the Sierra brand said.
The 250ml ******* tail cans will be sold with an RRP of £2.60 ($3.54) per can. The drinks will also be part of the retailer's "multi-buy" deal of four drinks for £6.00 and five for £7.00.
