The Los Angeles Lakers are still trying to get things done this summer to bolster their roster even further. LA has done a nice job of acquiring former Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler and getting a deal done to bring back Austin Reaves.
Now, after all of the additions, the Lakers sit one player above the allowed roster limit. They will have to make a decision before the end of training camp.
"There are, however, obvious holes. With 16 roster spots, the Lakers would need to get rid of at least one player, though they can carry as many as 20 through training camp in October," Heavy.com's Sean Deveney wrote.
There is a consensus that one of four players could be waived by the organization if no trade is made. Dalton Knecht, Bronny James, Jaden Hardy, and Jarred Vanderbilt are all possible options. However, James appears to be the only safe player of the group as of now.

A fashion label called Fecal Matter is having a moment.
Matières Fécales — literally French for "fecal matter" — has gone from an intentionally provocative outsider project to dressing some of the world's biggest celebrities, including Zendaya, Lady Gaga, Demi Moore and Kylie Jenner.
And yes, the name is intentional.
Canadian designers Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran founded the label after meeting as fashion students in Montreal. Frustrated with an industry they viewed as wasteful, exclusionary and obsessed with consumption, the pair wanted a name that reflected their criticism of it.
They landed on Matières Fécales — not the more familiar French "merde," or "caca," but the considerably more clinical term for fecal matter.

How good is the Houston Texans' secondary entering 2026?
In a sense, slightly underrated by Pro Football Focus compared to other rankings around the NFL, most notably at cornerback.
PFF recently revealed its top 32 cornerbacks for the 2026 season, with both Kamari Lassiter and two-time All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. ranked inside the top 10. Stingely, who has been arguably the second-best cornerback since 2024 behind former Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II, came in at No. 7 overall, behind names like Surtain, Seattle's Devon Witherspoon and Indianapolis' Sauce Gardner.
The reason? Yards before contact.
"Stingley experienced a bit of a volatile 2025 campaign in coverage last season, but his elite ball skills still allowed him to tally four interceptions and nine pass breakups," PFF's Dalton Wasserman wrote. "His 73.5 PFF coverage grade ranked 23rd among all qualified cornerbacks. Over the past three years, Stingley slots second among qualified cornerbacks with a 90.3 coverage grade. He and Kamari Lassiter make a good case to be labeled the NFL's best cornerback duo."

Training camp is filled with position battles, but not all of them receive the same attention. This time around, much of the focus has centered on the Philadelphia Eagles' wide receiver competition. There have also been conversations about a possible late safety addition by Howie Roseman as the backend of Vic Fangio's defense remains a talking point.
There's the backup quarterback race, Tanner McKee vs. Andy Dalton. No one, however, should ignore another important battle, one quietly taking shape among the backups along the offensive line. Drew Kendall may be one of the early winners.
Per multiple sources who have attended camp, the second-year veteran has consistently found himself in a prominent role whenever the Eagles have needed reinforcements up front. More importantly, he has continued to make the most of those opportunities. He has received rave reviews for his work.
One of the clearest indicators of a player's standing during training camp isn't what coaches say. It's where they place him. Kendall has repeatedly been among the first offensive linemen called upon when the Eagles need someone to step into a larger role.
Whether filling in at guard or handling additional responsibilities with various units, his workload suggests the coaching staff has developed a growing level of trust in him. That trust isn't handed out freely, especially in Philadelphia.

PFL Charlotte sent fans home sleepy on Friday night.
Making his sophomore appearance in the promotion, Charlotte's own Bryan Battle entered the cage to take on Dalton Rosta. The middleweight main event ended somewhat controversially, as the hometown middleweight Battle (13-3, 1 NC) came out the victor via a lackluster split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
Rosta (11-4) started the early goings of the bout with some strong leg kicks early, chopping at Battle's upright stance. That appeared to be a great recipe for success until it was entirely abandoned for a big Rosta body-lock takedown. Control didn't last for Rosta, as Battle defended well, pushing down Rosta's hands as he stood and walked around the cage wall. That was effectively where the rest of the round was spent until the 30-second mark. Some strikes were attempted between the two, leading to a failed late Battle double leg.
The second frame saw Battle get more aggressive, seeking long punches until Rosta worked his legs with kicks again. Those shots forced Battle to switch stance, and allowed Rosta to pursue another takedown. The remainder of the round was largely "highlighted" with more wall control exchanges and minimal strikes interjected.
Round 3 saw Battle tied up within the first minute to land some elbows and punches against the cage. Rosta started to land some punches at range once separated, and it was right back to failed takedown attempts and cage control in arguably the most forgettable fight of the year.

I broke down the 2027 scouting classes in my early summer scouting series, and the room has a ton of potential with a long list of potential standout players. I broke down the offense and defense in articles and I suggest reading those for a broad aspect of the room. The Raiders do have some talent on the interior OL, and I'd expect Las Vegas to add more in 2027 as John Spytek does. The Raiders will see Jeremy Chinn possibly hit free agency, and they did add rookies Treydan Stuke & Dalton Johnson this last year, though Stukes likely will play a diverse bandit safety role leaving some holes in the FS and SS positions. The 2027 draft class is exceptional at safety, and Las Vegas could really use a rangy over the top free safety that they have lacked for a long time.
These rankings are extremely early, and they will evolve over not only the summer but the next 8-10 months throughout the season, and into draft season. Some lists will feature 10, 15, 20, or more ranked prospects but I'll include others on the list below to note.
Tae Johnson, Notre Dame – 6'3/195, R-So
Elite. Johnson is coming off a 2025 where in his first year as a starter he logged 51 tackles, 4 INT, and 7 PBU with another 2 TD and a FF. Johnson allowed a 51.7 QBR, is an elite tackler, and he's an uber athlete. He has a phenomenal first step and continues to show sideline to sideline ability. Johnson plays physical, has elite hip flexibility, and he uses his full body in most reps with an ability to consistently turn and run and take away passing lanes. Johnson is smart, he has an ability to read and react well, and with his first step quickness Johnson can close passing lanes quickly to jump routes. As a run defender, Johnson is able to drive downfield, he's shown good great tackling angles, and is just a strong tackler overall. There's a lot of potential for Johnson to be even better than Xavier Watts, Alohi Gilman, and Kyle Hamilton.

The Buffalo Bills are set to begin their sixth day of open practice at training camp at St. John Fisher University, and after Tuesday's salty drills, who knows what we can expect.
The sun was finally out at camp, temperatures were up, and the Bills were wearing their pads for the entire practice for the first time. All of those factors likely led to some spirited fights during the two-hour workout.
None were more talked about than the scrum that ensued after rookie linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr delivered a late hit on tight end Dalton Kincaid.
Will cooler heads prevail today? Did Joe Brady remind his players that they're teammates? Or is he a coach who likes mayhem at practice?
We'll see.

Texas A&M's deep secondary could prove to be one of the top units in the Southeastern Conference in 2026, with a slew of returning stars and talented transfer portal additions looking to make a splash.
During Tuesday's media availability, head coach Mike Elko said this year's secondary is as deep as it has ever been, after ranking second in the conference with just 2,296 total passing yards allowed last season. Safeties Dalton Brooks and Marcus Ratcliffe return for their senior campaigns, while Dezz Ricks, Julio Humphrey and Tennessee transfer Rickey Gibson III lock down the cornerback position. Colorado transfer safety Tawfiq Byard also joined the Aggies in the offseason, one year removed from not allowing a passing touchdown in over 500 snaps with the Buffaloes.
While the secondary unit performed well in the program's run to their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff, Texas A&M struggled to create turnovers, tied for 131st in the nation with just two interceptions. The Aggies' defense also ranked 31st with 11 forced fumbles, which has been a point of emphasis this offseason, according to Brooks during this week's player availability.

There's a reason the Los Angeles Dodgers were so aggressive in their pursuit of two catchers at the trade deadline. Turns out, breakout Dalton Rushing is dealing with a "partially torn UCL," potentially putting the rest of his season and postseason in jeopardy, manager Dave Roberts confirmed in a radio interview Tuesday.
Roberts said the team discovered Rushing's injury a day before the trade deadline, leading to the Dodgers picking up both Hunter Feduccia and Ben Rortvedt on Monday. Rortvedt was thrust into action immediately, catching Tarik Skubal's first start with the team Tuesday. Feduccia, however, did make an appearance during the contest.
Both players will need to play a significant role for the team down the stretch, as the Dodgers' other starting option at catcher, Will Smith, has been sidelined since June with a neck injury.
Smith, however, is working his way back and is expected to return before the end of the regular season.
Prior to the injury, Rushing was in the midst of a breakout season. With Smith down, Rushing proved to be more than an adequate replacement, slashing .253/.335/.475, with 12 home runs, over 74 games.

The Atlanta Braves kicked off the series against the Miami Marlins with a 4-2 win on Tuesday evening. Despite some drama in the later innings, Grant Holmes made the start and pitched a gem. He tossed six scoreless innings, striking out five and giving up a base on ***** .
The Marlins outhit the Atlanta offense, but fortunately, the Braves were able to hold on and get their sixth straight win. The series continues tonight at 7:15 ET.
Walt Weiss had lots to say on the trade deadline and his trust in Alex Anthopoulos.
Atlanta lost a piece of history, as a magnolia from Ponce de Leon Park fell in a storm.

When Matt Barr was drafted by the Minnesota Twins on June 14, 2025, he had 10 days off before signing.
He spent that time working out at SUNY Niagara throwing to his best friend and former Thunderwolves teammate Dalton Harper and with coach Matt Clingersmith before heading to Minnesota's rookie level team in Fort Myers, Florida.
Once he was signed, it took a while for him to play in his first professional game thanks to the Florida Complex League season ending shortly after the draft and then a stress fracture in his right arm suffered during spring training, delaying his debut until May 25.
It was a one inning performance where he gave up one run against the FCL Pirates. Since then he has worked hard to pitch well and now has been called up to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, the Twins low-A level team.
Through two starts with the Mighty Mussels, Barr has a 6.75 ERA with seven strikeouts and three walks. After a shaky first start at the A-level in which he gave up five runs in 2 and 2/3 innings, Barr responded by going four innings of shutout baseball while giving up three hits and striking out five hitters Friday.

PHILADELPHIA − Eagles quarterback Andy Dalton says he likes rotating back and forth with Tanner McKee between the second and third units.
The part he likes the most is not knowing from day to day, and even series to series, as the Eagles go through their first full week of training camp with the two quarterbacks battling to back up Jalen Hurts.
That is something new for the 38-year-old Dalton, who has thrown for just under 40,000 yards in his career as he enters his 16th NFL season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Dalton Rushing longer than expected after an MRI revealed a slight tear in his UCL.
Rushing is on the injured list due to what was described as right arm irritation, but it is, in fact, a tear in his shoulder.
According to manager Dave Roberts, in an interview with AM 570's David Vassegh, the Dodgers will be shutting Rushing down from throwing for a few weeks before seeing where he is.
The team is hopeful that he will avoid surgery, though it is unclear whether he will return this season and, if he does, whether he will be a pinch hitter or able to catch behind the dish.

Pittsford, N.Y. | Through minicamp and four days of Buffalo Bills training camp, nothing about Kaleb Elarms-Orr indicates he's rookie.
That is… besides the fact he was indeed selected by Brandon Beane in the middle of the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Immediately repping with the first-team unit at the outset of practices at St. John Fisher University, Elarms-Orr has looked like he's done this all before, regularly directing teammates pre-snap, and more importantly, acting as a magnet to the football against the run and in coverage.
And during Tuesday's practice, Elarms-Orr's edgy play sparked a large scuffle when he hit Dalton Kincaid after the tight end made a snag going to the ground during team drills.
The late-ish hit came following a KEO tackle of Ty Johnson on what looked like a perfectly blocked run play until the rookie linebacker emphatically closed the lane with a thudding hit.

The Bengals' offense has a problem in training camp: Dexter Lawrence.
Lawrence, the defensive tackle who arrived in Cincinnati in a trade with the Giants this offseason, has been a menace, even though he's not allowed to touch the quarterback.
Bengals guard Dalton Risner told Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports that Lawrence is bringing intensity to training camp.
"There's certain guys in this league like Dexter who wreck a whole game play and you have to do everything around them and you change everything you're doing," Risner said. "You're going to have to change how you block against certain guys. He's just making us do it really early and really often."
Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase said Lawrence is causing the Bengals' offense problems.

Both Will Smith and Dalton Rushing are on the injured list, and Ben Rortvedt has come to the Dodgers rescue yet again, this time from not only off the 40-man roster but also from a different team. One day after the Dodgers' acquired Rortvedt from the New York Mets, they selected him to the major league roster to catch Tarik Skubal's Dodgers debut on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.
Hunter Feduccia, who was also acquired on Monday in a separate trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, was also recalled from Triple-A. Eliezer Alfonzo was optioned to Oklahoma City and Chuckie Robinson was designated for **** ignment on Tuesday, completing the full catching tandem swap.
Last season with both Smith and Rushing sidelined, Rortvedt started 15 of the final 21 games of the regular season and also started the first four postseason games too, until Smith returned from his hand injury. Looks like it's going to be the same for now, at least for the next few weeks.
"Given what Ben did for us last year, us knowing him, him being with a lot of our guys, being more of a guy that's been around for a while," manager Dave Roberts told reporters Monday in Chicago, "I could see him taking the lion's share for the foreseeable future."
Rortvedt had been with Triple-A Syracuse all season, starting 39 games behind the plate. He hit .235/.391/.414 with six home runs in 167 games.

We've reached the point in the offseason where the rumors are more speculation about what will happen as we get closer to the start of training camp — or once camp opens — than they are about things that might happen in the near future. With that framing in mind, here are the latest rumors flying around the NBA — and some advice from Chris Bosh to Victor Wembanyama.
The problem is pretty straightforward: The Dallas Mavericks have 16 players under guaranteed contracts but can only carry 15 into the season. Someone has to be traded or waived.
Klay Thompson and his $17.5 million contract are at the forefront of that, reports Christian Clark of The Athletic.
The Mavericks have explored his trade market but have yet to find a deal, multiple sources with rival teams told The Athletic on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss any potential negotiations... My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home. The Miami Heat are another team frequently mentioned in NBA circles as a potential landing spot for the future Hall of Famer."
Los Angeles? The Lakers are an unlikely landing spot, unless the Mavericks want two years of Jarred Vanderbilt plus another contract (Dalton Knecht?), but the Lakers have 16 guaranteed contracts on the roster and are hard-capped at the first apron, so they can't take on a lot of salary. The Clippers remain in limbo until the Kawhi Leonard/Aspiration investigation comes to its eventual conclusion — which may well be into the start of the season, or even 2027 — and the fit isn't great anyway.

Despite Andrew Friedman's allusions to the contrary on Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers ended up making more moves during Monday's trade deadline.
After trading for Tarik Skubal on Saturday night, the Dodgers found themselves with no other pressing needs over 48 hours before Monday's deadline. Rather, Friedman pursued marginal additions, two of which just so happened to be catchers that he's familiar with: Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Feduccia.
The Dodgers re-acquired Rortvedt from the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott, who had been designated for ******* ignment on July 31. Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing moved to the injured list Monday, but the Dodgers prepared for this contingency during the deadline by trading for two catchers.
The Dodgers scratched Rushing from Sunday's loss against the Boston Red Sox, citing arm irritation as the reason for his absence. The official reason, per manager Dave Roberts, is a mild elbow strain.
LA clearly prepared for this to happen, though, as they acquired catchers Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Feduccia—both of whom are familiar with the team's pitching staff—just before Monday's trade deadline. Per The California Post's Jack Harris, the Dodgers will activate Rortvedt ahead of Tuesday's game.
Rushing has taken on the majority of reps behind the plate since late June, as catcher Will Smith is also currently on the injured list with an inflamed disc in his neck. Rushing has played 74 games on the year, hitting 12 home runs and tallying 36 RBIs with an .810 OPS while hitting towards the bottom of the lineup.

The Jacksonville Jaguars saw a strong performance from Ezra Cleveland in 2025. The veteran lineman has played in Jacksonville since 2023, but only surpassed 1,000 snaps last season and proved he was capable of still performing at a strong level.
Despite having the 15th-most regular-season snaps amongst left and right guards combined, he committed just three penalties. He gave up just 24 pressures on 650 pass rush snaps, and tied for 21st in pass-blocking efficiency among 87 guards. Cleveland was a consistent and reliable guard, and is being acknowledged for it now.
Dalton Wasserman ranked the top 32 guards in the league for Pro Football Focus, and Cleveland made the list, coming in at No. 27, with Wasserman praising him for bringing stability to the Jaguars' offensive line.
"His 71.4 PFF pass-blocking grade ranked 19th among qualified guards," he wrote. "Including the postseason, Cleveland allowed just four sacks on 684 pass-blocking snaps. He should continue to provide a reliable presence as Jacksonville's starting left guard this season."
Cleveland may not be flashy, but the quiet consistency he provides is exactly what Jacksonville needs from its offensive line in front of Trevor Lawrence. Interior pressure can ruin a running play and prevent a quarterback from stepping into the pocket even when the offensive tackles hold up, making dependable guard play especially important to sustaining the Jaguars' passing attack.

Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid left training camp practice Monday after appearing to suffer an injury during 11-on-11 red-zone drills.
Kincaid went down near the middle of the field on a play in which quarterback Josh Allen rolled to his right and connected with Khalil Shakir near the right pylon for a touchdown.
Kincaid went to one knee following the play before getting up and walking off the field with a limp alongside members of the team's training staff.
Kincaid then removed his helmet and spent time talking with trainers behind the practice field at St. John Fisher University.
He didn't participate in the rest of 11-on-11 drills but went back in a few minutes later for walkthrough drills.

One under-the-radar position battle taking place at training camp for the Indianapolis Colts doesn't appear to be off to a great start.
While we know that Tanor Bortolini will be the Colts' starting center, it remains to be seen who the backup will be.
Taking the bulk of those second-team snaps have been Dalton Tucker and Jimmy Morrissey. Also on the roster are UDFAs Geno VanDeMark and Josh Kreutz.
Through four training camp practices, off-target or errant snaps have been far too common.
"One alarming item through the start of camp, and even something we saw in the spring, has been consistent snap issues with the backups," wrote Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan.

The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of righthanded pitcher Nolan Kingham, the team announced today. There was an open 40 man roster spot, so no move in that regard was necessary. To clear a spot on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned reliever Luis Curvelo to AAA Round Rock. In addition, lefthanded pitcher Dalton Pence has been promoted from AA Frisco to AAA Round Rock and is starting tonight.
Kingham, who turns 30 later this month, is a righthanded pitcher originally from Nevada who was a 12th round pick of the Atlanta Braves out of the University of Texas in 2018. He was released by the Braves after the 2023 season and pitched in Indy ball and in the Dominican and Mexican winter leagues before being signed by the Rangers out of Monterrey in the Mexican League earlier this season. He has a 6.99 ERA in 10 starts and a relief appearance covering 46.1 innings for Round Rock.
Like Marco Gonzales, who was also brought up despite an astronomical AAA ERA, Kingham is here to be a warm body in the bullpen to be used for length in case of emergency. He last pitched on the 28th and threw 78 pitches over five innings, allowing one run while striking out nine in what is easily his best outing of the season. I would ******* ume he will be designated for ******* ignment when Chris Martin is ready to be activated, which is very possibly tomorrow.
Curvelo goes back down to AAA after being up to be the in case of emergency innings sponge. He threw over 50 pitches in two innings yesterday and wouldn't be available to pitch again until Monday or Tuesday at the earliest so he's the guy who gets ******* ped.
Finally, I wanted to mention that lefthander Dalton Pence is starting for Round Rock tonight. When the Houston Texans entered the draft room back in April, tight end was a position that needed attention.
For years, the Texans have relied on Dalton Schultz as the go-to option inside. He's delivered since joining the team in 2023, finishing with over 59 catches for 630 or more yards and at least three touchdowns in two seasons. Last year, Schultz broke Owen Daniels' single-season receptions record for tight ends with 82 catches.
But Schultz has been consistent on offense, the rest of the room hasn't come close to meeting the standard. Injuries, inconsistent play and lack of development have hindered the growth of the position as a whole and provide little help to the passing attack.
So in theory, the Texans were wise to use a second-round pick on a tight end. Drafting German-born Michigan standout Marlin Klein with a top-60 pick, however, did raise eyebrows at the time of the selection, though don't tell that to Houston's play-caller.
"Marlin is a talented kid," Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley said Friday. "He works his ****** off. He's got a big runway out in front of him. Big, tough, can build speed, good catch radius. We're trying to put him in positions to be able to get a lot of reps at the techniques that we're trying to get. There's a lot at that position."

Jalen Hurts did not wait for a question to establish the Philadelphia Eagles' standard for the 2026 season.
Hurts opened his first training camp news conference with a statement about the offseason, the workouts he organized with teammates and the importance of strengthening relationships throughout the offense.
"Really good summer," Hurts said. "We got a lot of work in, got a lot of guys together and definitely grew closer. The mentality is 100 percent alignment, zero entitlement."
The message reflects Hurts' approach to leading a roster filled with accomplished and highly paid players. Philadelphia has Pro Bowl selections, All-Pro performers and players with championship experience, but Hurts does not believe previous success guarantees future results. His offseason work amid A.J. Brown's departure was designed to build the alignment he referenced. Hurts trained with quarterbacks Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton and Cole Payton in Orlando, Florida, while several wide receivers and tight ends participated in throwing sessions.
DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, Dallas Goedert and rookie Eli Stowers were among the offensive players involved. First-round receiver Makai Lemon joined the sessions after working through a hamstring injury. The workouts allowed teammates to develop timing while learning how each player communicates and responds to coaching. That familiarity is particularly important as Philadelphia installs Sean Mannion's offense and incorporates several new skill-position players.

The Philadelphia Eagles are back together, and preparations for the 2026 season have officially begun.
Players reported to the Jefferson Health Training Complex on Tuesday for the opening of training camp. The Eagles' social media team released photos and a video offering fans their first look at the team's arrival. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith were among the offensive stars shown entering the facility. Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley and Andy Dalton were also included in the team's arrival gallery.
The defensive group featured Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, Nolan Smith, Marcus Epps, Moro Ojomo and offseason addition Riq Woolen. Carter reported on the same day Philadelphia announced his four-year extension through the 2031 season, providing another significant development as camp opened.
The arrivals also offered an early glimpse at newcomers preparing for their first training camp with Philadelphia, and were buoyed by Jalen Carter's historic contract extension. Saquon Barkley, Jake Elliott, Hurts, Andy Dalton and Cooper DeJean were among the players photographed entering the facility.
Reporting day marks the transition from offseason projection to on-field evaluation. The Eagles must begin installing Sean Mannion's offense while determining how the receiving targets will be distributed around Smith. Philadelphia also has competitions to resolve throughout the secondary and at several depth positions.
