MARKHAM, Ontario – Now that IndyCar drivers have gone on track following construction delays at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, teams and drivers are adjusting to their first practice session on the new street circuit. While drivers got some time to do simulator work for the 12-turn, 2.19-mile course in the weeks leading up to the event, racing on the real surface has some differences.
The biggest question coming into the weekend was how the tight, right-handed hairpin in Turn 5 would race. Marcus Armstrong said he and Meyer Shank Racing teammate Felix Rosenqvist thought there'd be a lot of grip at the top of the turn, which would make entering Turn 5 high and wide the ideal path. After one practice, Armstrong isn't so sure.
"I think I tried everything just to see what works," Armstrong said. "As the track evolves, it's probably going to change. Just like Long Beach, that really tight hairpin, it builds a lot of rubber. The line that you take at the start of the weekend can vary a lot towards the end of the weekend. I guess we're going to have to keep adapting to that grip. It's a very tricky corner. Zero grip. You're like sliding in, sliding mid-corner, and sliding out."
Team Penske's David Malukas felt the simulator was "spot on" except at the hairpin. Malukas didn't realize the elevation that takes place on the straightaway between Turns 4 and 5 until he did the track walk Friday. He's not confident that cars will be able to go two-wide into the turn, which leads into the longest straightaway on the track.
"If it is clean air running, I don't think it's big enough of a run," Malukas said. "You can maybe do a dive bomb, but you're going to go wide when the other guy does the normal corner, so I don't know."

After initially receiving a flex option, Auburn football's season opener against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 12, now has a set start time and television network designation.
The Tigers will square off with the Golden Eagles at 6:45 p.m. CT on Sept. 12, and will air on SEC Network.
This season's matchup will be the 24th time Auburn and Southern Miss have met on the gridiron, with all but three of those games played at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. The lone exceptions occurred from 1946-48, when Auburn faced Southern Miss in Montgomery for three straight seasons, going 1-for-2 in that stretch. The teams played seven times in the 1980s, and annually from 1988-93. The Tigers and Golden Eagles have played just twice since the annual dates in the late 80s/early 90s.
Southern Miss defeated Auburn by one point in both 1990 and 1991, but the Tigers have rattled off four straight wins in the series, winning in 1992, 1993, 2008, and 2018. Cologne and Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly reached an agreement over the transfer of Ellyes Skhiri back to his old Bundesliga club, dramatically reviving a return that appeared to have been abandoned only weeks ago. Sport Bild reports the two Bundesliga clubs have settled the terms of a deal for the 31-year-old midfielder. The remaining obstacle is Skhiri's salary demand. Cologne are reportedly prepared to offer the Tunisia international approximately €1.5m per year. Skhiri currently ranks among Frankfurt's higher earners and has yet to accept the proposed terms.
Get German Football News reported in late July that Skhiri had been granted permission to negotiate a departure from Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder was omitted from Adi Hütter's training-camp squad after being informed that he no longer featured prominently in the club's plans. A return to Köln initially appeared one of the most logical solutions. That option subsequently seemed dead, however.
GGFN reported during Köln's pursuit of Wolfsburg midfielder Vinicius Souza that Skhiri was no longer considered an option at the RheinEnergieStadion. Köln had elected to explore alternative solutions for René Wagner's midfield instead. That position was reinforced again only recently when GGFN covered Sevilla's emerging interest in Skhiri. At that stage, Köln were understood to have dropped their pursuit entirely.
Skhiri's return would address an obvious need in Köln's midfield, where Tom Krauß, Ísak Jóhannesson and summer signing Paul Okon-Engstler currently represent Wagner's main central options. The veteran already knows the club exceptionally well. Skhiri joined Köln from Montpellier for approximately €6m in 2019 and developed into one of their most important players. He made 133 competitive appearances for the club and contributed to 28 goals before departing for Frankfurt on a free transfer in 2023.
Skhiri has since made 117 appearances for Eintracht, although his role declined last season. The additions of Raphael Onyedika and Noël Aséko have further reduced his prospects under Hütter. Skhiri also enters the final year of his SGE contract. The RheinMainAdler remain eager to cash in on the 86-times-capped international, who still maintains a €5m estimated market value. Cristian Romero on Saturday completed his move to Atlético de Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur, after a club-to-club agreement was reached on Wednesday.
Romero on Friday flew to Madrid, underwent his medical and signed his new contract to 2031. The 28-year-old took training for the first time on Saturday, and he could be in the squad Wednesday when Atlético host Malága to begin its 2026/27 campaign. Romero had drawn interest from Inter Milan, FC Barcelona and even Spurs' city rivals ***** nal, once it became clear that the Argentina international would be leaving Tottenham; he said goodbye to Spurs fans in a video posted to social media on Friday.

On August 6, Allient (NASDAQ:ALNT) reported its second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, where revenue climbed 10% year-over-year to $153.8 million, gross margin hit a record 34.9%, and orders jumped 49% to $201.3 million, with a book-to-bill ratio of 1.31x. The company also flagged data center demand as a rising piece of its story. So is this durable, or a single strong quarter dressed up as a trend?
The breadth of the quarter stands out. Industrial revenue rose 17%, Aerospace & Defense grew 16%, and Medical increased 9% on demand for surgical robotics and other precision motion work. Data center and infrastructure sales, part of the Industrial bucket, reached $16.3 million, or 10.6% of total revenue, up 60% from a year earlier. On a trailing 12-month basis, those sales hit $57.1 million, up 69% year over year, tied to power quality products like harmonic filters and line reactors that help data centers manage increasingly dense electrical loads.
Profitability improved just as sharply. Operating income rose to $15.6 million from $11.7 million, pushing operating margin to 10.2%, the highest level in roughly a decade. Net income jumped 85% to $10.4 million, or $0.61 per diluted share, while adjusted EBITDA rose 18% to $23.7 million. Backlog ended the quarter at $298 million, with most of it expected to convert to revenue within three to nine months, giving management a clearer read on the back half of the year.
The Vehicle market was the exception to an otherwise strong quarter, with revenue falling 7% on weaker powersports demand. Aerospace & Defense growth of 16% also came despite the previously announced cancellation of the M10 Booker program, a reminder that individual defense contracts can disappear even as the broader segment grows. Management itself cautioned that the record gross margin benefited from favorable mix, and mix can be lumpy, meaning quarter-to-quarter variability should be expected even if the structural trend holds.
Restructuring and business realignment costs, tied partly to the Dothan facility transition, came in at $600,000 for the quarter and are expected to total $2 million to $3 million for the full year. Inventory turnover slipped slightly to 3.1x from 3.2x in 2025, reflecting deliberate investments in inventory and strategic material buys to support growth and hedge against tariff uncertainty. Test cricket returns to Australia's tropical Top End for the first time since 2003 when the hosts take on Bangladesh in a two-match series beginning Thursday.
The first Test at Marrara Stadium in Darwin will be Bangladesh's first Test tour of Australia in more than 20 years. It also starts a 12-month period in which Australia are scheduled to play at least 20 Tests, including series against South Africa, India and England.
Australia are set to bring back their main bowling attack, with Pat **** mins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon returning from injuries. Mitchell Starc is also in the side.
Injuries have meant the four have rarely played together in recent series. Hazlewood's expected return means Scott Boland will miss out, while allrounders Cameron Green and Beau Webster are also in the starting XI.

Pat McAfee is no stranger to drawing a public reaction, negatively or positively. The brash radio host's latest endeavor certainly earned him his share of praise and blowback.
McAfee appeared alongside President Donald Trump at The 2026 Patriot Games at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio Tuesday. Except this year, baseball's traditionally drawn-out free agency period is expected to be a frenzy, condensed into the three weeks between the end of the World Series and the end of the collective bargaining agreement.
The market opens five days after the World Series ends. The labor deal expires at 11:59 p.m. ET on Dec. 1, and a lockout is widely expected the moment it does. The last one ran 99 days and froze every signing and trade in the sport. This one could be worse, because the owners want a salary cap and the union has spent decades saying that's not even in the conversation.
So, the players about to hit the market are looking at a narrow chance in November where deals can actually get done under the current CBA before the expected lockout.
These last two months will matter more than they normally would. Almost every name in this free agent class just changed teams at the deadline. Tarik Skubal is a Dodger. Freddy Peralta is a Ray. Luis Arraez is a Phillie. Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes are Cubs.

The Orioles blasted a pair of two-run homers in the first two innings against Bailey Ober to jump out to an early lead. The damage was done by Pete Alonso and Gunnar Henderson.
The Twins loaded the bases in the 2nd inning with no outs and only got one run out of it. In the top of the 3rd, Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit a solo homer to make it a 5-1 game.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Brooks Lee's 19th double scored their 2nd run of the game. Later, Alan Roden would strike out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
The final chance for the Twins came in the 8th, with Luke Keaschall and Royce Lewis getting on base. Unfortunately, Kaelen Culpepper would strike out looking to end the inning.

In the most recent quarter, which ended on June 30, AWS achieved its fastest growth rate in 18 quarters -- 37%. Not only is that important from a growth angle, but AWS also generates the best margins for the business; thus, a strong performance will also boost the bottom line. Of the $27.5 billion in operating income that Amazon posted last quarter, $16.6 billion, or 61%, came from AWS.
Despite spending heavily on artificial intelligence (AI), investors are becoming bullish that Amazon's efforts are paying off; CEO Andy Jassy says that "our AI and chips businesses each eclipsed run rates of more than $25 billion." All in all, the business is doing exceptionally well, with Amazon beating expectations on top and bottom lines for this most recent quarter.

One of my favorite parts of training camps is seeing the rookies who step up in a major way, making play after play. These kinds of moments, stacking positive days, are a surefire way to earn a spot on the 53-man roster and potentially earn playing time early in their career. One Minnesota Vikings rookie is doing just that, except he is making waves nationally.
Charles "Chuck" Demmings, Minnesota's fifth-round pick out of Stephen F. Austin, has created a lot of noise in camp, going up against the 1s in practice and more than holding his own. The Athletic's Alec Lewis wrote on Demmings and his standout camp recently:
"Demmings' positive reception in Minnesota has coincided with strong play. Through seven training camp practices, few Vikings players have made more eye-popping plays. Last weekend, Demmings broke up a pass intended for superstar receiver Justin Jefferson, and he swatted away another directed at receiver Tai Felton on Wednesday."
Demmings has been a breath of fresh air in this secondary and fits seamlessly in this Brian Flores defense. Demmings is a physical man-to-man cornerback who loves to talk when he wins a rep, something this group has desperately missed over the last few years. It will be exciting to see him in action this Saturday against the Giants.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been the clear winners of the summer with the additions of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. Obviously, James is the bigger name--no disrespect to Brown who is an incredible basketball player and person--but James is larger than life.
With the addition of James, that comes with a ton of fanfare, and the city of Philadelphia is certainly embracing the presence of the future Hall of Famer.
A talented Sixers fan painted an incredible mural of James dunking the basketball, reminiscent of his alley-oop with Dwyane Wade during his days with the Miami Heat. Except, instead of Wade, it's Benjamin Franklin making the same pose Wade did after throwing the lob to James.

The most noteworthy deadline addition for the Red Sox is set to begin a new chapter in his career tonight as Adley Rutschman debuts for Boston north of the border.
The goods news for the Red Sox is Rutschman's hit exceptionally well against the Blue Jays in his career, both at Rogers Centre and in general. In this building, Rutschman's got a career .311 average and a .966 OPS in 137 plate appearances (best numbers in any ballpark with at least 50 career plate appearances); and against the Blue Jays all time, he's got a very similar .311 average and .961 OPS in 258 plate appearances (third best against any team with at least 40 plate appearances).
Oddly enough, the only two teams Rutschman's hit better against in his career than the Jays are the A's and the Pirates, who the Red Sox just played, and are about to play later this week. Classic baseball!
The bad news for the Red Sox though is they're on a three game losing streak and facing Dylan Cease, so all the success Rutschman's had against Toronto might not apply here. Then again, Rutschman's gone 2-6 with four walks against Cease in his career, so many he's arriving just in time to a lineup that was on the wrong side of a one-hit shutout against Cease the last time they faced him back on July 25th at Fenway.
Also of note going into tonight's game, Toronto's bullpen is gassed. Here's their usage in terms of innings pitched by day over the last week:

On Christmas Day, Boston and Miami will go head-to-head once again, except this time it will be on the court. If we ******* ume that this will be the first meeting between the two teams, Boston will be forced to face up to the reality of what could have been, had they landed Giannis in the summer. After all, it was missing out on Giannis that ultimately acted as the catalyst for Brad Stevens pulling off a highly controversial deal to send Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Games between Boston and Miami always carry some extra weight for the fans. The two teams are rivals and consistently find themselves battling for position in the Eastern Conference. While the Heat aren't expected to be a contender this season, having Giannis on the roster means they can't be counted out, especially with Bam Adebayo anchoring the floor next to him.
