Jamie Oliver has stepped in to save the airfield and flying school where he trained to be a pilot.
The owners at Andrewsfield Aviation, near Braintree in Essex, said they were preparing to close operations because there was no successor lined up after they retired.
But the TV chef, who achieved his pilot licence in July, helped arrange new ownership to ensure the hangar doors remained open.
"Andrewsfield is a special place with so much potential," said Oliver, who is from Essex.
"It has an extraordinary history and is full of wonderful people with an exemplary training environment that has changed my life for the better."

British social media influencer Lauren Alexis has reportedly spent approximately £250,000 on security since becoming a professional, as repeated incidents of stalking, robberies, and break-ins have followed her fame across the UK and around the world.
Alexis was a famous influencer before joining the adult content site OnlyFans in 2020, earning hundreds of thousands of pounds per month since launching her account. However, she claims that alongside the money, designer bags, and millions of views, there's a dark side.
"I've had people follow me before," Alexis explained. "I've had people wait outside places I'm at, or come to my house." "If people know you make money, you're obviously a target."
In one of the scariest incidents, a stranger approached the concierge at the penthouse she was staying in Essex with a picture of her and asked if she lived there. The worker confirmed that she does live there, even in the penthouse on the top floor.
The stranger appeared again in the early morning. "He came, I'm ***** uming, at about one or two in the morning, and he was ringing the intercom, saying my name constantly," Alexis shared. "It was so creepy." "He was like, 'I know who lives here and I'm going to wait for her,'" Alexis's manager, who was with her at the time, recalled. Alexis said the breach scared her so much that she decided to move out of the penthouse.

Esmee Gummer dreamed of becoming a professional dancer. At 18, and just six weeks before she was due to start dance college, complications following surgery left her paralysed from the waist down and unsure if she would ever walk again.
Now 35, she has swapped life at her home in Hackney, east London, for a campervan as she attempts to run 5,000km (3,107 miles) around the UK and Ireland.
She is leading a free 5km (3.1 mile) run club in every British city, as well as Dublin, as part of her project – The Nation's 5k – to inspire people to "say yes to movement before it's too late".
Since setting off from Inverness in June, she has consumed countless carbohydrate gels and worn out at least five pairs of trainers.
A support crew drives the van between cities, but Gummer, originally from Heybridge, Essex, is making the journey on foot, running for up to seven hours a day as she aims to complete the challenge in 99 days.

Southend United head coach Kieron Dyer says he is embracing the responsibility that management brings after leading his side to three wins from his first three games in charge.
The Shrimpers recruited 10 new players over the summer and currently sit top of an embryonic National League table having picked up maximum points.
Dyer, who was appointed as the club's head coach in June, is in his first managerial role after spells coaching at Ipswich Town and Chesterfield.
"The responsibility you have of the team, the club, the office staff. I feel that I have to represent them right," Dyer told BBC Essex.
"It's a big club. When you're taking that on your shoulders it is a mental slog. When you're going to sleep at 9:30 in the evening you know that it's taken its toll.

Jack Jordan's thrillers will debut in North America in 2027 through an eight-book deal with Hanover Square Press
In an exclusive interview, the bestselling author speaks with PEOPLE about writing morally-complex stories, growing his readership and working on the Hulu adaptation of his 2023 novel Conviction
"I love stories that stay with you and haunt you," Jordan says
Eleven years into his publishing career, and Jack Jordan, the U.K.-based author of nine thrillers, including 2023's Conviction, isn't slowing down.
Now, Jordan's beloved novels are arriving on the other side of the Atlantic. The author's thrillers will be available in the United States and Canada for the first time in an eight-book deal through Hanover Square Press, kicking off with Conviction in 2027.
"The American readers I have so far that have found my work from across the pond have become avid readers," Jordan, 33, tells PEOPLE. "I can't wait for that readership to expand and for the conversations to grow."
Becoming a Sunday Times bestseller, however, wasn't originally part of the plan. Raised in a working-class family in the English county of Essex, Jordan was a dedicated reader, who grew up devouring books by Jacqueline Wilson and Malorie Blackman. But he didn't see being an author as a feasible career path for himself.

James, Earl of Wessex will soon be leaving the family home as he starts his new university life at the Royal Agricultural University in the new term.
Ahead of his new life, James was seen joining other members of his family down at Balmoral, and he was seen driving his father, Prince Edward, as they arrived.
Although most of the UK has been basking in the sun in recent weeks, at Balmoral, the temperatures are only around 15C, and so James and Edward were seen bundled up warmly. James wore a blue jumper with a gilet, while Edward was seen wearing a green jumper with a collared shirt and tie.
Plenty of other royals were seen joining James and Edward, as the likes of the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne and Zara and Mike Tindall were seen arriving at the King's Scottish home.

A distinct operational evolution has arrived for the Pittsburgh Steelers under head coach Mike McCarthy. Beyond installing his West Coast offensive framework, McCarthy is systematically restoring veteran command, empowering his quarterback with pre-snap freedom that recent Pittsburgh offenses largely lacked.
On a recent episode of "The Snap Count" podcast, former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch and offensive lineman Trai Essex examined how this philosophical shift directly elevates signal-callers on gameday.
"When you look at Mike McCarthy's history, he's always given his veteran quarterbacks the keys to the drive," Batch explained. "In Pittsburgh, we've seen periods where the pre-snap process was overly rigid. Giving an experienced quarterback full autonomy to audit protection, check out of bad looks, and manage the clock changes the entire defense's approach."
Rather than forcing the offense to execute fixed calls regardless of defensive alignments, McCarthy's system relies on dynamic line-of-scrimmage reads. The quarterback retains full authority to flip plays, adjust protection schemes, or call audibles based on safety rotations and front-seven looks.
Essex highlighted how this veteran command instills confidence across the entire offensive line.

The **** ss of Edinburgh has reigned supreme in the sustainable style stakes this week, recycling one of the hardest-working items in her royal wardrobe for a visit to Capability Scotland.

She previously styled the versatile piece with pinstripe trousers at the Royal Windsor Flower Show in June and a denim skirt for The Groundswell Festival in July.

King Charles's nephew, James, Earl of Wessex, has reportedly taken on an unusual summer job following his graduation from Radley College. Prince Edward and Sophie's son completed his studies at the prestigious school this summer and has now taken up a job at the Sandringham estate, according to a report.
According to The Sun, King Charles's nephew, James, Earl of Wessex, is doing a summer job at Sandringham, Norfolk, England. The 18-year-old has been spotted driving tractors on the royal property.
"Everyone is so used to only seeing James smartly turned out with his family at functions at Christmas and Easter, so I had to do a double-take," an estate worker stated. The individual continued, "He might be the King's nephew, but he is more than happy to get his hands dirty and muck in."
Moreover, the worker explained that "Driving tractors around Sandringham is not an easy task, and it can mean long hours." He also shared that "learning a good work ethic at a young age can always help," no matter how wealthy someone is.
The worker added, "The King is known for his fondness of the countryside." Thus, "he couldn't be prouder knowing the younger royals share his love." For the unaware, James's sister Lady Louise Windsor also took a part-time job during her summer break from university.

All but two of the nine teams in Group A remain in contention to reach the knockout stages of the One-Day Cup following a day of unlikely results including defeats for the top three in the section.
Pacesetters Leicestershire missed the chance to advance in their final game of the initial phase, with their fate now out of their hands after losing at Kent, who were helped by a sensational display from Daniel Bell-Drummond. They now join Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and Surrey in the chasing pack on 16 points each.
Middlesex won at eliminated Derbyshire to remain top of Group B and ensure they will advance, with Durham also in a strong position immediately behind second-placed Yorkshire following their home win against Essex, who now cannot progress.
Elsewhere in Group B, Glamorgan damaged Worcestershire's hopes of a knockout-stage place with the final ball of the game at Cardiff, while in Group A second-placed Nottinghamshire narrowly lost at Gloucestershire and third-placed Lancashire lost at second-bottom Warwickshire.

Ashley Banjo MBE said it could have been more difficult if his dance group Diversity were starting out today due to the way the world had changed.
In 2007, the street dance troupe was formed with 11 members from London and Essex, before winning ITV's Britain's Got Talent two years later.
The 37-year-old, who worries that the next big dance group could be missed due to rising living costs and reduced opportunities, has backed a programme to support 20 individuals in professional dancing.
It came as the number of working dancers and choreographers has been cut by a third since 2019, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Banjo, who grew up in Wickford, Essex, said the world is "very different" from when he started out and thinks the costs can be overwhelming.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain never had any luck at the Cricket World Cup - but his brother Mel fancies his chances of getting one over his sibling this summer.
Nasser played in two World Cups - in 1999 and then, as captain, in 2003 - but England exited the tournament after the group stage on both occasions.
Older sibling Mel, 62, has already surpassed that in a sense, having reached the final of the Over-60s Cricket World Cup with England two years ago.
But can they go one better in this year's edition - which starts in Canada on Sunday with England again one of the pre-tournament favourites to pick up the trophy in 18 days' time?
"We've got an enormous batting order all the way down to seven and eight, and a lot of all-rounders, so as a squad we've got a lot of options," Mel, who is set to open the batting, told BBC Radio Essex.
