The UC Bearcats didn't have long to celebrate their upset of eighth-ranked Texas Texas on Homecoming last week.
That's because the Bearcats now face undefeated and No. 6 Utah, which has the nation's longest active win streak at 13 games. The Utes' last loss was in last year's "Holy War" to rival BYU in Provo, 24-21 Oct. 18, 2025. The Bearcats would benefit if the Utes looked ahead to this year's BYU game, which Utah hosts Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
"I think for us, we need to show how much of an environment we have here," UC head coach Scott Satterfield said. " I know it's Halloween, but dress up and come out yelling in this game. We're going to need to have that home field advantage because it certainly helped us last week, and we know when we play here it's different for us because of that. Hopefully, our fans will show up and be loud."
Utah quarterback Devon Dampier, backup quarterback Byrd Ficklin and running back Wayshawn Parker have all taken direct snaps and are all threats as UC found out last year in a 45-14 walloping in Salt Lake City. Dampier threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 78 yards. Parker ran for 104 yards with a touchdown. Ficklin had just 14, but also scored and is every bit the runner Dampier is when in the game. Sometimes, they're both in the game.
"They do a lot of that and they have the talent to put out there," UC coach Scott Satterfield said. "It makes you have to go over all this stuff. Defensive coaches sit in the office all day anyway; it just makes them sit longer to go over all the formations you could get. We call it 'chasing ghosts'. You don't know what you're going to get."

India continue to make their presence felt at the top of the Women's T20I bowling rankings, with Sree Charani holding on to the No. 1 spot and Deepti Sharma making a two-place jump to sixth following her strong showing at the Asia Cup 2026.

Deepti has been one of India's standout performers in the tournament, claiming eight wickets in three matches as the team booked its place in the semi-finals.
The right-arm spinner's consistent performances have earned her a significant rise in the latest rankings. Deepti, who had previously reached the top spot in December last year, is now within 60 rating points of Charani. Sophie Ecclestone, Charlie Dean, Nonkululeko Mlaba and Lauren Bell are the four bowlers positioned between the two Indian stars.

With Charani and Deepti occupying the top two positions, India continues to dominate the upper reaches of the T20I bowling rankings.
Several players also made significant gains in the latest T20I rankings after their performances at the Asia Cup. Bangladesh's Marufa Akter was among the biggest movers, climbing 19 places to 18th in the bowling rankings. Chamari Athapaththu moved up five spots to 28th, while Sultana Khatun gained nine places to share 37th.

Thailand's Thipatcha Putthawong rose four places to 47th, while teammate Suleeporn Laomi jumped 10 spots to 53rd. There were also gains among Bangladesh's batters, with Sobhana Mostary moving up three places to 36th and Dilara Akter climbing five spots to 62nd.
The latest ODI rankings also saw notable movement following England's home series against Ireland. Stand-in England captain Charlie Dean moved up one place to jointly occupy ninth in the ODI all-rounders' rankings. She also climbed two spots to share 11th among ODI bowlers after taking three wickets in the three-match series.

England's Lauren Filer made an impressive 14-place jump to 39th, while Ireland's Cara Murray rose 16 places to 50th in the ODI bowling rankings.

Ireland youngster Amy Hunter emerged as the biggest winner among ODI batters, moving up nine places to 11th. England's Maia Bouchier climbed 13 spots to 42nd, while Sophia Dunkley made an even bigger leap of 26 places to reach 43rd.

From the opening kickoff to the final whistle, Rice-Eccles Stadium is a cacophony of noise.
Some 51,444 fans are at full throat when the Utes score a touchdown or when the opposing defense is on the field. During the breaks in the three-plus-hour event, there's still noise at all times, from the marching band to music blasting from the speakers to the in-game presenter hyping fans up or announcing the contest.
There is one moment, aside from when the Utes are on offense, when Rice-Eccles Stadium falls relatively silent — during the break following the end of the third quarter.
For six consecutive years, the "Moment of Loudness" has become a closely-held tradition at Utah, one born out of tragedy.
In the span of just nine months, two University of Utah football players died. Ty Jordan, a freshman running back, died from an accidental shooting on Christmas night in 2020. Nine months later, sophomore cornerback Aaron Lowe, who was friends with Jordan and changed his number to Jordan's No. 22 for the upcoming season, was shot and killed at a party in September 2021.

Two of the biggest figures when Utah took the Rice-Eccles Stadium field Thursday night for its 2026 season opener were starting quarterback Devon Dampier and head coach Morgan Scalley — for obvious reasons.
Dampier is back for his senior year, and after dealing with injury during a successful 2025 campaign, he has his sights set on a memorable season. And more importantly, he's healthy.
Scalley, meanwhile, became the sixth straight Utah head coach to win the first game of his first full season as coach, as the No. 21 Utes rolled to a 66-14 victory over FCS opponent Idaho.
There were plenty of smiles from Utah fans, coaches and players throughout the night, as the Utes kicked off the new era in style.
"He was like, 'Y'all, we've been doing this for months now, so just go out there, do what you do. We're all going to make mistakes, but at the end of the day, forget it, move on to the next play,'" Dampier said of Scalley. "Just the way he carried himself definitely brought a different impact to us."

Utah picked right back up where it left off last season, delivering a dominating performance on the ground in a 66-14 win against FCS opponent Idaho Thursday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The Utes set school records in rushing yards (3,462) and rushing touchdowns (41) behind a dominant offensive line in 2025, and they started 2026 at the same pace.
Wayshawn Parker led the way on the ground for Utah, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown on 12 attempts while hauling in three passes for 23 yards and two touchdowns.
The three-touchdown night was a career high for the junior running back and served as a glimpse of what he can do as the undisputed lead back this year.

Giada De Laurentiis is trading the kitchen for the ballroom.
The cast for season 35 of Dancing with the Stars was officially announced on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and the celebrity chef is one of the 16 competitors, joining a lineup of actors, athletes, former dancers and reality stars.
The Food Network alum, 56, tells PEOPLE she was inspired by her 18-year-old daughter, Jade, to do the show.
"I've been asked several times over the years, and I think that this time I said yes because my daughter basically forced me to say yes," she admits. "And also because I just dropped her off at college, and I think that she felt and I felt that I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone and do something totally different."

The landscape of college sports has changed dramatically in the past few years with athletes able to get paid and enter the transfer portal at will. Schools seem to turn over the roster every year as players jump around for more money or more playing time or both.
Sometimes it's hard for fans to keep up with comings and goings and who's getting what. Many lament the current state of affairs and critics of the evolving system long for the days when a scholarship and meal plan were enough to keep a player at a university for four years.
A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll asked Utahns what concerns, if any, they have about college sports today. It presented several choices.
The survey found 20% concerned about athletes being paid through NIL and revenue sharing; 17% about the rising cost to attend games; 14% about athletes transferring too frequently and 5% about conference realignment. Another 11% said they didn't know.

After plenty of speculation, Dancing With the Stars pro Witney Carson finally revealed that she is indeed pregnant with baby number three.
The 32-year-old first announced her pregnancy Monday morning on Good Morning America, sharing that she and her husband, Carson McAllister, are preparing to welcome another member to their brood.
Carson also spoke to PEOPLE, saying, "My family is growing. We're so blessed to keep growing our family." The professional dancer added, "I can't wait to become a family of five."
As any expectant mother knows, working full time during a pregnancy isn't always easy. Add in a physically demanding job, like dancing, and the struggle is real. Carson candidly opened up to PEOPLE about how she's handling it this time around. "I am just in pure survival mode, she said. "I am constantly trying to eat to keep nausea at bay. I'm trying to rest as much as I can. I think with two toddlers, it's very difficult to rest, but my husband has been an absolute champ, and he has allowed me to rest, and he's very much taking care of all of us."

In a fast-moving photo montage posted by the Utah football social media account, one photo stood out — former Utah football coach Urban Meyer embracing current Utah coach Morgan Scalley.
Meyer was around the program at least once a year when Kyle Whittingham was running the show, and now that Scalley is in charge, he continued the tradition by inviting his former coach to a practice last week.
Meyer transformed Utah's football program, picking up from where Ron McBride left off and taking the Utes to new heights.
After arriving in Salt Lake City from Bowling Green, Meyer engineered the team's first 10-win season since 1994, defeating an Aaron Rodgers-led Cal team in front of what was then the largest crowd in Rice-Eccles Stadium history, beating then-No. 19 Oregon and capping off the regular season with a 3-0 victory over BYU to clinch the Utes' first outright conference championship since 1957. Utah defeated Southern Miss in the Liberty Bowl to reach 10 wins.
In 2004, the Utes began the season ranked No. 20 in the ****** ociated Press poll, marking the first time Utah had opened a season with a number next to its name. The success from last season, combined with returning experience all over the field, created a buzz in the facility and among Utah fans that it would be a special season.

Three-time Commonwealth medallist Rosie Eccles has retired from boxing following defeat in Glasgow.
Eccles settled for bronze, to add to the gold and silver she won at previous Games, after a split-decision defeat in Friday's semi-final.
In an emotional interview after the narrow loss, the Welsh fighter confirmed she is hanging up her gloves before launching a verbal attack on "awful" people who tried to "end" her career.
"That's it for me now, I'm done," she told S4C.
"My heart's full but the tank is empty and I've got to accept that, otherwise I'll go on too long.

Wales have collected 15 medals so far at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with two gold, five silvers and eight bronze medals.
There are four more guaranteed medals after boxers Rosie Eccles, Owain Harris-Allan, Orlando Holley-Sotomi and Connor Williams reached Friday's semi-finals and will therefore win at least a bronze.
Wales' most successful Games were on the Gold Coast in 2018 where they won home 36 medals, including 10 golds, 12 silvers and 14 bronze, but the streamlined nature of this Glasgow event makes it difficult to compare.
The 2026 medals include six in swimming, four in athletics, three in artistic gymnastics, and one each in bowls and weightlifting.

Five-time Commonwealth champion bowler Alex Marshall and two-time judo champion Sarah Adlington will be Scotland's flagbearers at Thursday's Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Glasgow.
With five golds, one silver and one bronze, Marshall is Scotland's most successful athlete at the Commonwealth Games while Adlington is chasing an unprecedented third judo gold at the Games.
England's flagbearers will be Sian Honnor, a four-time medalist in bowls, and swimmer Luke Greenbank.

LAKE PLACID — As America continues to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its berth, the legacy of one of the nation’s greatest moments continues to be chronicled at a studio in Loveland, Colorado.
Sculptor Rob Eccleston has made significant progress on the "Monument to a Miracle" sculpture honoring a time when 20 U.S. hockey players shocked the world at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid by defeating the heavily favored Soviet Union in the Miracle on Ice. The team, coached by Herb Brooks, then overcame Finland two days later to secure an improbable gold medal.
“When I presented the sketches to the team, they said it was really nice, but we really want it to be based on the photo of them on the podium because on our backs is USA, not our names,” Eccleston said. “It’s not about us as individuals. It’s about the team. And that spoke volumes to me. It made me more interested in doing the project than ever before because it showed the humility of these amazing hockey players.”

Eccleston’s work depicts all 20 players on the top rung of the Olympic podium at the medal ceremony.

Yastika Bhatia on Sunday became the first woman to score a Test century at the Home of Cricket as India closed in on a famous victory over England in the historic first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s.

While vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was unfortunate to be caught down the leg side off Lauren Bell for 70 (130b, 9x4, 1x6), the less-fancied left-hander Yastika produced a sublime maiden Test hundred, scoring 113 off 158 ****** with 14 fours, as India declared at 341 for seven shortly before tea.

The visitors set England a daunting target of 457.

England, who had been bowled out for 170 in their first innings, ended Day Three reeling at 130 for six, still needing 327 runs with only four wickets in hand.

India’s seamers once again led the charge. Kranti Gaud (2-40), fresh from her first-innings five for 37 that made her the first woman to claim a Test five-wicket haul at Lord’s, struck twice early. She bowled Tammy Beaumont for a firstball duck in the opener’s farewell Test before removing former captain Heather Knight (13), who was caught behind by Richa Ghosh after being given a guard of honour by the Indian players following her retirement announcement on Saturday.

Gaud has figures of seven for 77 in the match. Sayali Satghare (2-19) provided excellent support, trapping Maia Bouchier (2) lbw before claiming another wicket.

Earlier, Yastika produced an innings to remember.

Resuming on her overnight 39, the 25-year-old enjoyed an early reprieve when a Lauren Bell delivery clipped her leg stump without dislodging the bails. She responded immediately by driving Bell straight down the ground for four and soon completed her second Test fifty. Batting with elegance and ****** urance, the Baroda wicketkeeper unfurled crisp cover drives, authoritative pulls and deft late cuts while using her feet confidently against the spinners.

India Women moved to the brink of a historic maiden Test victory at Lord's after a dominant third day, powered by Yastika Bhatia's record-breaking maiden century before the bowlers reduced England to 130/6 in pursuit of an improbable 457-run target.

With just four wickets separating them from scripting history at the Home of Cricket, Harmanpreet Kaur's side ended the day firmly in control despite a spirited lower-order resistance from Amy Jones and Mady Villiers.
Resuming Day 3 with a healthy first-innings lead, India continued to pile on the runs despite England enjoying a better opening session with the ball. Lauren Bell removed Smriti Mandhana (70) early before also dismissing Jemimah Rodrigues. England spinner Sophie Ecclestone fought tirelessly and completed her fourth five-wicket haul in Women's Tests, but lacked support from the other end as India continued to dominate.
Following Bhatia's departure, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh injected fresh momentum into the innings with a brisk unbeaten 50 off 52 ***** , taking the attack to the England bowlers. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana (83, 108b, 11x4, 1x6), captain Harmanpreet Kaur (58, 121b, 7x4) and seasoned allrounder Deepti Sharma (57, 87b, 7x4) struck resolute fifties as India posted 285 before pacer Kranti Gaud's early breakthrough left England at 21 for one on an engrossing opening day of the historic first-ever women's Test at Lord's.

After opting to bat, India looked set for a much bigger total at 190 for three but suffered a collapse, losing seven wickets for 95 runs.

England dominated the final session, taking the last four wickets for just 11 runs in 42 ***** . Leftarm spinner Sophie Ecclestone (368) finished with three wickets, including the final three, as India were bowled out in 74.5 overs.

India struck back late when pacer Kranti Gaud trapped opener Tammy Beaumont (2), playing the final Test of her career, lbw with a sharp inswinger. Gaud nearly dismissed Heather Knight too, but India declined a review that balltracking later showed would have hit the stumps. Maia Bouchier was unbeaten on 17 and Knight on one at stumps.

Earlier, England made the perfect start. Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer struck inside the opening seven overs, removing Shafali Verma for a duck and Yastika Bhatia (12). Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues (35) rebuilt with a brisk 64run stand before Rodrigues dragged Issy Wong onto her stumps.

Mandhana then combined with Harmanpreet in an 89-run fourthwicket partnership that steadied India after a shaky start. The lefthander played with characteristic fluency, peppering the off-side with elegant drives and also launching Ecclestone for six. However, she fell for 83, edging Wong behind while chasing a wide delivery.

Harmanpreet, under scrutiny after India's group-stage exit at the Women's T20 World Cup, responded with a patient half-century despite battling cramps. Soon after Mandhana's dismissal, she was undone by debutant off-spinner Mady Villiers, who picked up her maiden Test wicket with a delivery that drifted and turned through the gate.

Richa Ghosh (13) failed to make an impact, but Deepti's composed knock and a 46-run stand with Sneh Rana kept India afloat before another collapse ended the innings.

India and England shared the honours on an engrossing opening day of the historic first-ever women's Test at Lord's, with the visitors posting 285 before reducing England to 21/1 at stumps on Friday.

After England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt won the toss and chose to field, India appeared well placed for a much bigger total thanks to impressive half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma. However, a late collapse ensured England regained control before the close of play.

The hosts then negotiated 11 overs in fading light but lost opener Tammy Beaumont cheaply, leaving the match finely balanced heading into Day 2.
India endured a shaky start after losing Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia early, but Smriti Mandhana once again showcased her class with a fluent innings of 83 off 108 **** . The left-hander was positive from the outset, driving elegantly through the covers and punishing anything overpitched. She struck 11 fours and a six while stitching together crucial partnerships that helped India recover from the early setbacks.

Jemimah Rodrigues looked comfortable during her brief stay, adding a valuable stand with Mandhana before throwing away a promising start.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then joined Mandhana to steady the innings with an important 89-run partnership. While Mandhana played the aggressor, Harmanpreet anchored the innings with a patient 58 off 121 deliveries, ensuring India remained in a commanding position through the afternoon session.

At 190/3, India looked set to cross the 350-run mark. But Mandhana's dismissal shifted the momentum dramatically.

England's spinners, led by Sophie Ecclestone, exploited the ageing ball brilliantly. Ecclestone extracted sharp turn and bounce to finish with 3/68, while debutant Mady Villiers made an immediate impact as India slipped from a position of strength.

With wickets falling regularly around her, Deepti Sharma produced a composed knock under pressure. The experienced all-rounder compiled a valuable 57 from 87 **** , striking seven boundaries and guiding India to a competitive 285 before becoming the last batter to fall in the 75th over.
