Marshall Faulk was not happy with his team's resounding 77-6 loss to the University of Houston on Saturday. The matchup was one of several money games FCS HBCU programs played over the past couple of weeks, and it was Faulk's first money game. In comments obtained by Kevin Batiste, Faulk expressed his disappointment with the result and what it meant.
"That was awful. That wasn't really a game. That was a kind of a pre-season crash dummy test for Houston to work on all their good plays, and we didn't show up…I felt like, for the most part, the guys that we had in early, our guys that's going to play, I feel like they gave the effort. But let's just be real, okay? They're better than us. All right? They're better than us. They're ranked what, twenty-second? We're FCS. Everybody know what this is. Let it be what it is. We're gonna get better, we're gonna lick our wounds, and get ready to play some football."
He then talked about maintaining his players' health after the Houston game and heading into SWAC play.
"I don't know. I know we have a couple of guys dinged up, but for the most part, I'm gonna say yes. Listen, man, I took my guys out. I wanted to make sure that we were healthy. We got SWAC play coming up in two weeks, and as much as winning this game seemed important as it started, with the start that we had, I just needed to make sure — or ensure — that we got out of this game as healthy as possible."

A week after one of the most incredulous endings in recent college football history, the Wolverines' defense again starred as Michigan upset No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10 in Ann Arbor. With an offense stalled out for much of the second half, Michigan's go-ahead score came courtesy of a short field.
Jyaire Hill picked off a poor John Mateer pass and returned the ball 24 yards to Oklahoma's 6 yard-line. Two plays later, Jordan Marshall was in the end zone and the Wolverines had their game-winning margin.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Austin Simmons threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns, Robert Woodyard Jr. produced back-to-back second-half turnovers to help Missouri take control, and the No. 23 Tigers beat Kansas 38-21 on Friday night in the latest edition of the Border War.
Jamal Roberts ran for 125 yards and a touchdown, and Donovan Olugbode and Cayden Lee caught TD passes, helping the Tigers (2-0) beat their biggest rival for the fifth straight time in their first trip across the state line since Oct. 29, 2005.
It was tied 14-all early in the second half when Woodyard fell on Kansas quarterback Isaiah Marshall's fumble, and Simmons quickly found Olugbode for the go-ahead touchdown. On the Jayhawks' next offensive play, Woodyard faded into the secondary and was there to pick off Marshall's pass, setting up Xai'Shaun Edwards' touchdown run.
Marshall finished with 168 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Jayhawks (1-1), who haven't beaten Missouri since Nov. 29, 2008. The sophomore quarterback also carried 20 times for just 23 yards.
Kansas jumped on the Tigers early, just as it did last season in Columbia, when a series that went on hiatus after the Tigers' departure for the SEC finally resumed after more than a decade. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — More than half a million Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since the start of Moscow's full-scale invasion in February 2022, a senior British defense official said Friday.
The dead are part of 1.5 million Russian casualties in Ukraine, Air Chief Marshall Sir Richard Knighton, Chief of the U.K's Defense Staff, said.
The U.K. figures roughly coincide with those published by the Ukrainian military. There was no immediate comment from Russian officials.
Moscow's bigger army is struggling to make headway on the battlefield. Western officials and ***** ysts say the Russian rate of advance has slowed significantly this year.
Russia's armed forces have also lost an "enormous" amount of military materiel, Knighton told reporters. That includes more than 10,000 armored and protected vehicles, close to 3,000 air defense and artillery systems, and over 370 aircraft and helicopters, Knighton said.

At UFC Fight Night 293, Austin Bashi and Lucas Brennan will look to regain momentum against one another in Las Vegas.
Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
Bashi (14-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) entered the UFC with much hype but has encountered mixed results. He lost his debut to Christian Rodriguez, but bounced back with a win over John Yannis. In July, Bashi lost a hard-fought battle against Jose Delgado, who is now considered a contender at featherweight.
Brennan (11-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) gained notoriety for his nine-fight stint in Bellator during which he went undefeated. After a loss in PFL, Brennan departed the promotion and went to the regional scene. After a 2-1 run there, the UFC picked him up in April. He lost his debut to Francis Marshall by unanimous decision. Brennan is a second generation UFC fighter, being the son of promotional alumnus Chris Brennan.

Stivers will have six games on the remainder of its 2026 football schedule.
The Tigers new schedule was finalized Thursday, Sept. 11 by Dayton Public Schools.
Stivers will restart its season against Thurgood Marshall on Sept. 17. Stivers kept road games against Shroder, Norwood and Vanlue from its original slate, and also received a commitment from St. Bernard-Elmwood Place. The Tigers also rescheduled a game against Dunbar at Welcome Stadium.
DPS Superintendent Dr. David Lawrence announced Sept. 2 Stivers would attempt to finish the season one day after the district said its season would be canceled. The district originally canceled the season due to what the district described as not being able to continue "safely and responsibly" stemming from injuries and low player participation numbers. DPS officials reversed its decision after holding a meeting with parents and staff the following day.
Stivers began the 2026 season with a game on Aug. 21 against Gamble Montessori which it lost 50-6. The originally scheduled game against Dunbar the next week was canceled and a few days after the entire season was canceled which caused several teams originally on the Stivers schedule to find new games.

It was a game of firsts for Caleb Bacon. Not only was it the first game of 2026, but also Bacon's first game as a Nittany Lion after transferring from Iowa State, as well as his first game as a full time defensive end since switching from linebacker.
It's safe to say all the changes worked out for Bacon, as he was named the Big Ten's Co-Defensive Player of the Week for week one. Bacon made an immediate impact in his Nittany Lions debut, collecting three TFLs, a sack, and six tackles in the first half alone against Marshall. The Thundering Herd had difficulty handling Bacon, as he constantly provided pressure and wreaked havoc in the backfield whenever he was on the field. Bacon even had a sequence with consecutive TFLs as he helped to shut down an early drive by Marshall as the Nittany Lions defense held them scoreless throughout the game. It was Penn State's first shutout in a season opener since blanking Akron in 2017.
Bacon shares the honor with UCLA's Ta'Shawn James, who had two interceptions to help lead the Bruins to a victory over Cal on Saturday.

Saturday evening brought big news: Vikings legend Harrison Smith, who never officially announced his retirement, is coming back for a 15th season with the franchise that drafted him in the first round back in 2012.
The fan reaction to that news has been almost entirely positive. Smith is an all-time great who has played at a high level across several different eras of Vikings football. About a month into this season, he'll pass Carl Eller and Fred ****** to move into third on the franchise's games played leaderboard, trailing only Jim Marshall and Mick Tingelhoff. He's an obvious Ring of Honor lock with a real chance to end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
And Smith's return isn't just about legacy. With his experience and instincts and communication abilities in Brian Flores' check-heavy defense, Smith is a big addition to the Vikings' roster right now, even at 37 years old. He can clearly still play, as we saw in his dominant performance against the Lions last Christmas Day.
Amidst the excitement, there have been a few Vikings fans who have pushed back. Their specific complaints have to do with the contract the team gave Smith for his 15th season. It's a one-year, $12.25 million deal that has incentives up to $16.25 million if Minnesota wins the Super Bowl. For some, that price tag is too steep for a 37-year-old safety.
There were enough of those tweets that a former longtime teammate of Smith's took notice. Anthony Barr, a first-round pick two years after Smith who played alongside him for nine seasons, took to X/Twitter to put those fans on blast late on Saturday night after a couple posts about his UCLA Bruins' Week 1 win over Cal.

There is a reason Matt Campbell wanted to bring Rocco Becht from Iowa State to Penn State once he took over as the head coach in Happy Valley. Becht gave Campbell and Penn State an experienced starter at the most important position on the football field, and that veteran presence was shining in the season opener against Marshall.
Becht passed for 271 yards and four touchdowns to four different wide receivers in Penn State's 45-0 victory over the Thundering Herd. With Becht leading the offense, Penn State put points on the scoreboard on each of their first three possessions in the first quarter. Becht took advantage of his existing chemistry that carried over with a handful of former Iowa State teammates like Brett Eskildsen, Chase Sowell, and tight end Ben Brahmer (all three caught one of Becht's touchdown passes), and he may have found a new favorite go-to target in Koby Howard, who had a game-high 161 receiving yards.
"I thought Rocco was really efficient today in terms of, you were getting eight, nine guys in the box, you were getting a lot of pressure," Campbell said when discussing Becht's performance in Week 1. "I didn't know exactly what to expect, and I think for Rocco to be able to handle that and distribute the ball, sometimes being a great quarterback is like being a great point guard, you got to be a great distributor of where the ball needs to go, and I thought he was outstanding today."
The success of the passing game, including when backup quarterback Alex Manske came in to relieve Becht in the second half, helped make up for a pretty slow start for the running game. Penn State had just 62 rushing yards at halftime and never seemed to find cracks for some big gains on the ground. The rushing yardage piled up a bit more in the second half as the bench started getting some time on the field. Carson Hansen led the Nittany Lions with 48 rushing yards and Cam Wallace picked up 47 yards once he got some playing time in the second half with the game well in hand.
A slow day on the ground from the starters didn't seem to bother Campbell too much in his postgame press conference, although it will certainly be something to watch in the coming weeks. But as long as the football is moving down the field, Campbell seems satisfied with the end result.

The Nittany Lions kicked off the Matt Campbell era with a satisfying shutout victory, with strong performances in all three phases of the game. Koby Howard had the breakout performance that Nittany Lion fans have been waiting for, catching six passes for 161 yards and a touchdown. The Penn State defense swarmed Marshall all game long, with Caleb Bacon among the top performers with four TFLs in a game where he seemed to nearly always find himself in the Herd backfield.
Temple also began the season on a winning note on Saturday, taking down Rhode Island 38-14. Former Penn State quarterback Jaxon Smolik was four-of-six passing for 57 yards and a touchdown for the Owls, while running back Keveun Mason had 192 yards from scrimmage and two scores.
Penn State will visit Temple for its first road game of the season on Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon with the game airing on ESPN2.

Harry Maguire has suffered a blow to the nose after a collision with Everton's Thierno Barry in the opening minutes of today's clash.

There was an early scare for Maguire, who spent several minutes receiving treatment for a nose injury.

Michigan narrowly pulled off the victory on Saturday night, defeating Western Michigan by a 13-12 final score on a last-second Hail Mary. Across the board, this was a pretty disappointing game despite the victory.
Here's a look at each position group on the roster with grades for how each of them performed.
Bryce Underwood looked to be in control of the offense on the opening drive, but after that, all the old habits seemed to return with questionable decision-making and some throws that just weren't precise. The worst of it was in the final minutes of the game when he fumbled with the game on the line to allow Western Michigan a chance to run out the clock. However, he made a heck of a throw on the last play of the game to J.J. Buchanan to seal the victory. There's still much to improve, though.
What was expected to be the strongest position group on the team ended up having a rather underwhelming night. It wasn't all their fault (more on that later), but the running backs didn't capitalize on their chances either. Jordan Marshall had just 44 yards on 11 carries. Savion Hiter wasn't all that involved in his first game, getting just six touches. What was expected to be a dominant rushing attack didn't get off to a good start at all, and there's also going to need to be big improvement over the next week.
To be clear, this is JJ Buchanan's A+. He was as advertised coming out of the transfer portal, making some impressive grabs, including the game-winning catch for 47 yards as the clock hit zero. He had six receptions for a total of 126 yards. For the rest of the group, they weren't really asked to do much, with just 12 completions on the night. The lack of a big showing from the passing attack wasn't exactly their fault.

STATE COLLEGE – Shortly before coaching his first football game Saturday at Penn State, Matt Campbell stood and surveyed Beaver Stadium while trying to soak in the atmosphere.
He didn't feel the formidable responsibility of leading the Nittany Lions weighing on his shoulders. He felt more thankful than anything else.
"It was really special to come out, watch our fans and watch what this place feels like," Campbell said. "You look up and see those teams on the press box (suites above the east stands) and you think about some of the great coaches and players who have been here.
"You're just grateful to have the opportunity to lead this football team and represent this program the right way."
Campbell's debut in blue and white couldn't have gone better as Penn State routed Marshall 45-0 before an announced crowd of 108,489.

Well, it's safe to say that the new-look Nittany Lions understood the **** ignment. In Matt Campbell's first game as the head coach of the Nittany Lions, he had his squad firing on all cylinders in a commanding 45-0 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Quarterback Rocco Becht looked like the most experienced QB in the FBS, and receiver Koby Howard looked like a revelation with 161 receiving yards. On the defensive side of the ball, new defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn's guys were flying, led by spirited efforts from Tony Rojas and Caleb Bacon.

Cathie Wood appears to have made a sharp choice inside the same AI trade. ARK Invest's August 28 transaction disclosure showed sales of 156,286 shares of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) and purchases of 243,707 shares of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA). Based on the August 28 closing prices, the moves were worth an estimated $72.8 million and $53.0 million, respectively. ARK also bought Broadcom, making the message look less like a retreat from AI chips than a reordering of which suppliers offer the best risk-adjusted exposure.
The bull case for the switch is execution. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) reported quarterly revenue of $96.2 billion, including $89 billion from its data-center business. Its scale, software ecosystem, and ability to sell complete systems give it a clearer path to monetizing every new cluster. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is growing rapidly from a smaller base, with second-quarter revenue up 50% and data-center revenue up 107%, but it still has to convert product momentum into durable share gains against a rival that sets much of the market's pace.
That does not make AMD the obvious loser. Its Instinct accelerators and EPYC server processors give customers a credible second source, while hyperscalers have strong incentives to prevent one vendor from controlling their economics. If AMD keeps improving its software and wins larger deployments, its smaller revenue base could produce more upside. Nvidia's strength also creates its own bear case: enormous expectations, customer concentration, export restrictions, and the risk that buyers increasingly favor custom silicon can punish even excellent results.
ARK's filing does not disclose its rationale. The same-day trade reduced AMD exposure and increased Nvidia exposure, but it does not mean AMD's thesis has broken. Hedge-fund holder counts rose for both names. At the end of Q2, 164 hedge funds owned AMD, up from 134 one quarter earlier, while Nvidia ownership rose to 285 funds from 275. Marshall Wace increased its AMD common-share position 3% to 3.9 million shares, and Fisher **** et Management raised its Nvidia stake 3% to 90.9 million shares.
AMD's reported short positioning was not exceptionally high. As of the August 14 settlement date, 40.1 million shares were sold short, equal to 2.47% of the float and 1.5 days of average trading volume. The trade is striking, but the fuller picture is a two-winner market: Nvidia offers the cleaner execution story, while AMD offers the more demanding and potentially more explosive share-gain story.

It's been a whirlwind in many ways, barely allowing the 46-year-old Campbell to catch his breath.
But the season has finally arrived. Penn State begins the Matt Campbell era in earnest against three-touchdown underdog Marshall Saturday at 3:30 (TV-FS1) at Beaver Stadium.
Like the rest of us, Campbell will finally see the product resulting from all the work.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how we handle the challenges," he said. "You have a good Marshall football team. They're going to put us in challenging situations. How do we respond to that? How do we handle the crowd? How do we handle our own ego, our own leadership?

Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller made two very different-looking AI purchases in the second quarter that share one underlying thesis. Duquesne Family Office increased its Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) position by 1,083% to 541,600 shares and opened a 72,900-share stake in Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD). One company rents computing capacity through AWS; the other supplies accelerators and server processors. Together, the positions give Duquesne exposure to an AI infrastructure platform and a credible alternative chip supplier, although the filing does not disclose Druckenmiller's rationale.
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) offers the demand platform. AWS revenue grew 36.7% in the second quarter, while Amazon's capital-spending trajectory approached roughly $220 billion. The bull case is that its cloud customer relationships, custom silicon, and enormous infrastructure base let it capture AI usage across models and chips. The bear case is that depreciation, power, and construction costs arrive before utilization. Even strong cloud growth must eventually produce returns on a spending program larger than many national economies.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) offers more direct operating leverage. Its data-center revenue more than doubled, and customers want an alternative to Nvidia for accelerators and CPUs. If AMD's software improves and hyperscalers deploy Instinct at scale, revenue can grow faster than the broader infrastructure market. Yet it must compete against an entrenched platform while also funding an aggressive roadmap. A second-source narrative is valuable, but only sustained deployments turn it into durable margins.
The common exposure works because Amazon can profit from rising AI consumption regardless of which merchant chip gains share, while AMD can benefit if that consumption creates room for multiple suppliers. The risks also interact. Amazon's own chips could limit AMD's opportunity, and slower cloud utilization would pressure both the buyer of infrastructure and the seller of processors. Both positions could benefit if the market grows faster than those internal conflicts.
Hedge funds moved in the same direction. Amazon ownership rose to 369 funds in the second quarter from 353, while AMD ownership jumped to 164 from 134. Arrowstreet Capital increased its Amazon position 24% to 40.3 million shares, and Marshall Wace raised its AMD common-share stake 3% to 3.9 million shares. As of August 14, 40.1 million AMD shares were sold short, equal to 2.47% of the float and 1.5 days of trading volume. The modest short-interest snapshot shows limited reported short positioning in AMD; it does not resolve whether AMD can capture enough of the spending Amazon is helping unleash.

Nvidia's less famous telecom investment had more than doubled on paper by midyear. In October 2025, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) agreed to invest $1 billion in Nokia at $6.01 per share. Nvidia's Q2 13F valued the stake at about $2.2 billion as of June 30. The marked gain is impressive, but the strategic prize is larger: Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) and Nvidia are developing AI-RAN technology intended to carry artificial intelligence from data centers into mobile networks and eventually 6G.
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) wants the network itself to become accelerated computing infrastructure. If radio access networks adopt software-defined, AI-enabled architectures, Nvidia can sell computing, networking, and software into a market beyond hyperscale data centers. The bull case is that inference moves closer to users and telecom operators use spare network capacity for AI workloads. The bear case is timing. Standards, carrier budgets, and commercial rollouts move slowly, making near-term revenue difficult to separate from long-term vision.
Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) gains a strategic partner, capital, and access to an AI platform that can make its radio portfolio more competitive. A successful AI-RAN transition could improve product differentiation and create recurring software opportunities. Yet Nokia must balance that promise with operator spending cycles, intense competition, and the risk that open architectures reduce hardware pricing power. A valuable Nvidia stake does not by itself repair telecom margins.
The partnership is therefore an option on convergence. Nvidia supplies the compute ecosystem; Nokia supplies carrier relationships and radio expertise. Each fills a gap the other cannot quickly build. However, investors should not treat the June valuation as a realized return or ***** ume 6G revenue is imminent. The commercial value emerges only when operators deploy systems at scale and disclose credible returns with attractive economics across multiple markets.
Hedge-fund participation increased in both names. Nvidia ownership rose to 285 funds in the second quarter from 275, while Nokia ownership increased to 81 funds from 66. Fisher ***** et Management raised its Nvidia stake 3% to 90.9 million shares, and Marshall Wace increased its Nokia position 232% to 33 million shares. As of August 14, 43.2 million Nokia shares were sold short, only 0.75% of the float and 0.6 days of average trading volume. The low reported short-interest percentage shows limited reported short positioning, but it does not identify the holders or tell us why those positions exist. Nvidia's paper gain rewards the entry price; the real upside depends on AI-RAN becoming a commercial bridge to 6G.

One of the best high school football teams in the country takes to the road for the first time this season as MaxPreps No. 11 Baylor travels to Georgia to take on Rabun Gap.
Baylor has already received plenty of recognition this season, taking down Brentwood Academy in a nationally televised opener that featured the high school debut of freshman backup quarterback Marshall Manning, son of Hall of Famer Peyton.
Manning is out with a foot injury, but the real star of the show for the Red Raiders this season is reigning MaxPreps National Player of the Year David Gabriel Georges. The five-star Tennessee commit rushed for 27 touchdowns last season, averaging more than 10 yards per carry. He and four-star QB Keegan Croucher, an Ole Miss commit, will present a massive challenge to the Eagles' defense.
Then again, challenges are what they sign up for at Rabun Gap. Of the Eagles' 10 regular-season games this year, none are against teams from Georgia. Rabun Gap plays in North Carolina's private school **** ociation and has four games against N.C. teams, but also has opponents from Florida, Indiana, Virginia, Missouri and Maryland on its schedule along with Friday's showdown with Tennessee-based Baylor.

Prince Harry has announced his first public engagement since returning to the UK.
The Duke of Sussex will complete a skydive to raise money for military charities.
The event will also allow him to fulfil a promise he made to a 102-year-old veteran. Last November, Harry met World War II veteran Ed Marshall during a visit to Sunnybrook Hospital's veterans centre in Toronto. "They quickly bonded over their shared experience of military service and the way they have continued to serve their communities," the Sunnybrook Foundation shared.
Marshall trained as a paratrooper during World War II, and had told Harry about the charity skydive he completed on his 100th birthday. "The idea stuck, and together, they devised a plan for another jump," the organisation noted.
While Marshall won't be doing the jump with Harry, he will be represented by his grandson, Bailey. The jump will raise money for Sunnybrook and True Patriot Love Foundation, both of which support Canada's military veterans. Harry has previously worked with True Patriot Love Foundation to take the Invictus Games to Canada in 2017 and 2025.
The jump is set to take place later this month, although the location and time haven't yet been disclosed.

According to PEOPLE, he met the 102-year-old World War II vet Ed Marshall last November in Toronto. During his visit to Sunnybrook Hospital, Harry befriended Marshall, who informed him about the charity skydive.
The official website of the Sunnybrook Foundation shared the exchange between the prince and Marshall. "Ed amazed Prince Harry when he proudly recounted the fundraising skydive he completed to mark his 100th birthday. The idea stuck, and together, they devised a plan for another jump," the report read.
Furthermore, it didn't specifically mention a date but stated that the activity would take place this month. While Marshall wouldn't be able to join Harry, his grandson Bailey would take the honorable jump with the duke. This move would reportedly raise money for two charities, Sunnybrook and True Patriot Love Foundation. Both organizations support Canadian military veterans.
Meanwhile, the upcoming skydive would seemingly mark Harry's first engagement since his return to the UK. For those unversed, he moved back to his home country last week with his wife, Meghan Markle, and kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. It was reportedly that the Sussexes would continue as non-working royals and stay in a private residence outside London.
