SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The California labor leader behind a proposal to tax billionaires has been accused of harassing and intimidating several women who work for an affiliated union.
The allegations against Dave Regan, president of the SEIU United Healthcare Workers West, are detailed in an investigative report commissioned by SEIU California and obtained Friday by The ******* ociated Press. It includes interviews with several current and former SEIU members and others who say Regan tried to intimidate union leaders into supporting the billionaires' tax, which goes before voters in November.
The Los Angeles Times was the first to report on the allegations.
The report also includes allegations that Regan physically ******* aulted an SEIU leader more than 15 years ago amid a political dispute and that more recently he engaged in harassing behavior against other women who work for the organization.

25-year-old Guardians LHP Parker Messick made his MLB debut last August, and so far the results have been pretty spectacular. Even if they're helped a little by a lucky batting average on **** in play (he's at .264 for the season, the MLB average is .289). That's not a crazy outlier though, I don't think. Messick relies heavily on a 94-ish fastball and slightly slower sinker; that combo has been dynamite for him this season. He'll frequently mix in a change, less frequently some breaking stuff.
75 years ago, Bill Veeck pulled one of his signature wacky baseball stunts. He signed 3'7" Eddie Gaedel to the Browns' roster and had him pinch-hit in a game. Gaedel drew a walk — obviously his strike zone was small — and Veeck replaced him with a pinch-runner. The pinch-runner didn't score

Serena Williams turned a frightening childbirth experience into a pointed conversation about women's healthcare. The tennis legend said her ordeal showed her how widespread those struggles had become.
Williams revisited the experience during the Forbes Power Women's Summit on September 10. She also connected her advocacy to motherhood, entrepreneurship and the example she wanted to set for her daughters.
Williams told Forbes Executive Vice President Moira Forbes that she initially misunderstood the scale of the problem. "When I told my story, I didn't realize how many people could relate," she said. "Then I realized it's a women's problem." She later delivered her bluntest punchline about childbirth. "If men were giving birth, they would have sweets [and] like all kinds of medicines," Williams said. She joked that the healthcare problem "wouldn't be the same" otherwise.
The 44-year-old faced life-threatening complications after delivering Alexis Olympia in 2017. Doctors performed an emergency C-section before a coughing fit reopened her wound. Though Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's poor fourth quarter downed the Patriots in Wednesday's season-opener against the Seahawks, head coach Mike Vrabel expressed confidence that the young signal-caller will be better going forward.
While Maye's decision-making, timing, and accuracy may have been issues for his first two picks in the fourth quarter, his third was the most troubling given the game situation. Vrabel noted that before the fateful interception, the situation had been detailed to Maye by the coaching staff.
"If it's there, obviously we want to try to be aggressive," Vrabel said. "But if not, we're not losing any yards. And certainly don't want to give them a chance to make a play. So, that was the conversation that went in."
"Everything in the passing game is built on timing, built on protection," Vrabel added "And so, again, if it's not where you want it, in the timing of that particular play, and protection — just have to throw it away and say, 'Can't win it on this throw.' Drake will learn from it. We'll all learn from it. And, hopefully, we'll be better for it in the end."
Vrabel noted that the Patriots have seen Maye make good decisions with the football and feel like that will continue in the future.

"Musk," Alex Gibney's 3-hour-and-45-minute documentary about the tech bro who would be king, has a handful of those.
The biggest revelation, to me, was the film's detailed history of Musk's attempt to put a self-driving car on the market — a technology that's sure to be here at some point, though Musk, in his race to be first, was far too eager to announce that it had already happened. Tesla released its Autopilot driver-assist system in 2015 (and then the Full Self-Driving Beta program in 2020), marketing the new technology with ads that exaggerated the car's powers. And so people were suckered. From the outset, there were accidents. More than 60 fatalities have been linked to Tesla's driver-assistance systems. Talk about something that could put a dent in your image! But Musk, for the most part, succeeded in hushing up the lawsuits, the federal investigations, and the fatal crashes, which were evidence of a recklessness that should have given the whole world pause.

Picking a fight with a police officer is generally a poor decision, but doing it with one who once challenged for a UFC ***** le adds another layer of bad timing. A recently surfaced bodycam video shows Coral Springs Police Officer Marlon Moraes taking a man to the ground after the man verbally challenged him during a traffic stop.
Moraes, 38, is a former UFC bantamweight ***** le challenger and World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion who has worked as a South Florida police officer since 2024. According to MMA Junkie, the incident itself happened on March 27 but only recently began circulating widely online.
In the footage, the man can be heard telling Moraes, "You can't do sh*t," as he continues to confront him in a parking lot. Moraes remains standing in front of him until the man takes a step toward the officer, at which point Moraes trips him to the pavement.
Other officers quickly move in and ***** ist with placing the man in handcuffs. The circumstances that initially led to the traffic stop, including what the man was suspected of doing beforehand, were not detailed in the information released with the viral video.

The start to 2026 was less than ideal for Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and wife, Joanna Freeman. Marcus sent a clear message about his family after the coach was cleared of any wrongdoing regarding a January 3, incident which took place during his son's high school wrestling match.
Notre Dame released a statement backing the coach and explaining that the Freeman family was "verbally accosted" during the wrestling match.
"Vinny Freeman, head coach Marcus Freeman's son, was verbally accosted during and after his wrestling match by a local wrestling coach," Notre Dame's January statement detailed, per South Bend Tribune. "Marcus and Joanna Freeman intervened and removed Vinny from the situation.
"At no point did Coach Freeman physically engage with anyone. We believe that the police report, which includes video evidence, fully exonerates Coach Freeman and makes clear these accusations are unfounded."

Michael Burry, the investor famous for his subprime mortgage bets detailed in "The Big Short," said on August 23 that he has sold his stake in Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA), calling the Chinese e-commerce and cloud giant's shares overvalued. Burry stated in a Substack article that he had intended to reinvest the majority of his investment in Alibaba within a month or two, but changed his mind. "No longer," he said, adding that the stock's price would need to "fall by half" before he became interested again.

Uefa has banned Fenerbahce midfielder Matteo Guendouzi for his team's opening two Champions League fixtures following a series of provocations and insults during a chaotic play-off victory away at Lyon last month.
The 27-year-old, previously a player for Lyon's major rivals Marseille, found himself at the centre of unrest before and after Fenerbahce's 2-1 win on 26 August, which included a mass brawl.

Lake Victoria Gold Ltd. (TSXV:LVG) (OTCQB:LVGLF) (FSE:E1K) reported high-grade, near-surface gold intercepts from drilling at its Imwelo Gold Project in Tanzania, adding new data to the company's ongoing work to refine the project's initial mining area and processing plans.
The latest drilling at Area C, the planned initial open-pit area, returned 28.71 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 2.75 metres from 21 metres in hole IMWDR029. A second hole, IMWDR028, intersected 12.20 g/t gold over 4.50 metres from 32 metres.
Individual quartz-vein samples within those intervals returned much higher grades, including 142.90 g/t gold over 0.50 metres in IMWDR029 and 124.83 g/t over 0.40 metres in IMWDR028.
The results are from eight HQ diamond drill holes covering 225 metres across roughly 240 metres of strike in Area C. Four holes encountered voids **** ociated with historical artisanal mining, where parts of the shallow mineralized zone had already been removed.
