SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The California labor leader behind a proposal to tax billionaires has been accused of harassing and intimidating several women who work for an affiliated union.
The allegations against Dave Regan, president of the SEIU United Healthcare Workers West, are detailed in an investigative report commissioned by SEIU California and obtained Friday by The ******* ociated Press. It includes interviews with several current and former SEIU members and others who say Regan tried to intimidate union leaders into supporting the billionaires' tax, which goes before voters in November.
The Los Angeles Times was the first to report on the allegations.
The report also includes allegations that Regan physically ******* aulted an SEIU leader more than 15 years ago amid a political dispute and that more recently he engaged in harassing behavior against other women who work for the organization.
Regan acknowledged using curse words with union leaders but denied the physical ******* ault allegation.

The FSU Seminoles opened the season with a win over the New Mexico State Aggies, pulling out a 34-17 win in Doak Campbell Stadium. It was a much tougher game than expected, to the dismay of FSU's fans.
The Aggies were in the game from the start, driving on the field on the opening drive of the game before an interception ended the drive, allowing FSU to take an early lead. Despite the turnover, New Mexico State head coach Tony Sanchez liked what he saw from quarterback Trey Hedden.
"Yeah, I thought Trey really stepped up," he said. "We're big believers in him, and that's why we named him the starter. He's got some really good guys behind him, but I thought he did a really good job. They did a pretty good job of harassing him, and I thought the line stepped up too. I mean, I thought they played well.
"But he made one poor decision early on, on that interception. But other than that, I thought he played a really, really good game. He played a tough physical game. So I'm glad he's leading us."
Hedden completed 26 of his 42 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns with the one interception. FSU was only able to sack him three times, with him doing a good job of getting the ball out quickly.

A man accused of harassing and terrorizing people in Philadelphia while wearing a "distinctive" mask has been identified and may have fled the state, police announced Thursday.
The Philadelphia Police Department identified the suspect in the Aug. 12 ******* aults as 22-year-old Zymire Hughes.

"An arrest warrant is active," the Philadelphia Police Department said on social media while sharing a photo of the suspect. "Hughes may have fled PA and has ties to California and Nevada. We're working with the U.S. Marshals to bring him back to face justice."
The suspect is accused of accosting multiple people in the Center City area while wearing a "baby doll style Halloween mask" during a nearly 20-minute period on the morning of Aug. 12, according to police.

A California teenager pleaded guilty Friday to repeatedly kicking a sea lion in the face and chasing the animal as it tried to escape, according to video of the attack.
Tyler Muehl, 18, who lives in the San Diego seaside neighborhood of La Jolla, entered his plea in a federal courtroom to a misdemeanor violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act's prohibition on harassing wildlife, the Justice Department said.
"Federal crime. Federal consequences," U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon wrote in a statement.

An off-duty sergeant with a sheriff's office in central Florida was arrested after police say surveillance video showed him ****** aulting an older couple in a bar.
Jason Stickels, 44, was at Merk's Bar & Grill on Monday afternoon when he "created unwanted contact with a couple seated near the bar," according to a statement from the Volusia Sheriff's Office, where Stickels has been employed since 2004.
Mike Chitwood, the Volusia sheriff since 2016, put out a statement criticizing Stickels and apologizing to the couple in the bar.
"How to throw away your law enforcement career in 2 minutes. Off duty, stumbling drunk, harassing people who are just trying to enjoy their afternoon," Chitwood said in a social media post. "I apologize for this soon-to-be former Volusia Sheriff's Office sergeant's idiotic behavior today."

Two Democratic lawmakers introduced a bill in Congress today that would create a right to sue federal law enforcement officers who stop someone from filming or observing police activity.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D–Conn.) and Rep. Maxwell Frost (D–Fla.) introduced the "Right to Record Act of 2026," which they say would create new consequences for individual federal officers who violate a person's First Amendment right to document and record police.
The legislation would create a right to sue a federal law enforcement or immigration officers who engage in wide range of retaliatory behavior, including threatening and harassing videographers, surveilling them, and seizing and destroying their equipment.
The lawmakers cited recent allegations of federal officers targeting videographers in New Jersey, Memphis, and elsewhere across the country, as well as the importance of video evidence in refuting the false government narratives of several shootings of U.S. citizens by immigration agents.
"Over the last year, I've investigated dozens of cases of Americans brutalized by agents of their own government, and across the board, video footage corroborated their testimony – showing the world what they experienced and making sure that justice was served," Blumenthal said in a press release. "Without recordings, we wouldn't know the truth of what happened to Renee Nicole Good, Alex Pretti, Marimar Martinez, George Retes, and so, so many others."

TAIPEI, June 9 (Reuters) - Chinese coast guard ships operating around Taiwan in recent days have been "harassing" commercial shipping by asking them information about ‌their point of origin and destination and claiming jurisdiction, Taiwan's coast guard ‌said on Tuesday.
China, which views democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory, was angered after **** an and the Philippines said last month they would begin formal talks on their maritime boundaries, viewing that as involving waters off Taiwan.
Late on Saturday, Chinese state media reported ships had been sent to carry out a "special maritime traffic law-enforcement operation" in the ‌waters east of Taiwan in ⁠response to the **** anese and Philippine announcement.
In a statement, Taiwan's coast guard said that since Sunday the Chinese ships had broadcast ⁠messages to three passing commercial ships asking for information such as their ports of departure and destination.
Taiwan's own ships broadcast back that these were Taiwanese waters in which China had no jurisdiction and the Chinese vessels should "not harass ships," the coast guard said.
