Serena Williams turned a frightening childbirth experience into a pointed conversation about women's healthcare. The tennis legend said her ordeal showed her how widespread those struggles had become.
Williams revisited the experience during the Forbes Power Women's Summit on September 10. She also connected her advocacy to motherhood, entrepreneurship and the example she wanted to set for her daughters.

VanDyke was dissenting from the 9th Circuit's decision not to revisit Olympus v. Armstrong, a case that saw an all-female Korean spa sue on First Amendment grounds. The business, according to the Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC), had broken the law when it declined to accept a preoperative transgender woman. This was a problem for Olympus Spa, which requires nudity in its pool area, and whose business model, relatedly, hinges on catering to a single-sex clientele.
In ruling against the business last year, the 9th Circuit acknowledged the thorniness of the case. "We are not unmindful of the concerns and beliefs raised by the Spa," wrote Judge M. Margaret McKeown. "Indeed, the Spa may have other avenues to challenge the enforcement action. But whatever recourse it may have, that relief cannot come from the First Amendment."
Olympus Spa is now taking its case to the Supreme Court. McKeown and VanDyke, whose vulgar approach elicited a rebuke from 27 of his colleagues, may appear irreconcilably at odds. In some sense, they are. Yet the rival sensibilities also help paint a more complete picture of a complicated case, one that naturally provokes strong reactions but for which there may be no immediately satisfying answer under the Constitution.
The ordeal traces back to 2020. Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested in March for yet another vehicular accident. Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test that showed no signs of alcohol, but he refused a urine test and showed signs of impairment during the ordeal.
Officers found two painkiller pills in his pocket, and he told deputies he had taken "a few" prescription medications earlier that day. Later, Woods pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing.
Recently, Woods announced he planned to change his not guilty plea, according to court documents filed Tuesday. Woods was scheduled to appear in court on September 8th but is now expected on Wednesday morning for a plea conference.

In 2021, he survived a crash in Los Angeles so severe that doctors considered amputating his leg. Woods was not charged with any crimes as authorities determined the crash was caused by excessive speed and not impairment. It wasn't a particularly entertaining ordeal, but the Minnesota Vikings came away from their first preseason game with several positives. On a sunny day at MetLife Stadium, the Vikings set the tone early in a 13-10 win, offering optimism that their offseason goal of improving the run game could translate into on-field production.

Drought conditions had forced Mohamed and her family to leave Saakoow, a town in the Middle Jubba region more than 300 kilometers (186 miles) away. They moved from village to village before arriving in Baidoa, now a major hub for people fleeing drought, insecurity and food shortages, on Aug. 3.
"We are very hungry and in a desperate situation," Mohamed said. "We have nothing to eat and can only place our hope in God, as He is the one who sustains us through this ordeal that culminated in our trip."
The family's journey is one example of a deepening humanitarian emergency in Somalia, where years of drought, conflict and economic pressures are pushing more families from rural communities into displacement camps as hunger rises and humanitarian funding shrinks.

"I ate Chipotle," Ridley said at Vanderbilt Health Football Center. "By the time the night hit, it was coming from everywhere."
Ridley said he lost about 15 pounds because of the ordeal, but has gained most of it back

Calvin Ridley might not be dining at Chipotle anytime soon.
The Tennessee ****** ans wide receiver said on Aug. 1 that the stomach bug that kept him out of the practice on July 29 came after a meal at the popular chain restaurant.
"I ate Chipotle," Ridley said at Vanderbilt Health Football Center. "By the time the night hit, it was coming from everywhere."
Ridley said he lost about 15 pounds because of the ordeal, but has gained most of it back

The Oscar-winning producer and disgraced movie mogul was recently hospitalized for "heart and breathing issues," Weinstein's representative, Juda Engelmayer, confirmed to USA TODAY on Wednesday, July 1.
Engelmayer said Weinstein's medical ordeal was exacerbated by a case of pneumonia. He is currently recovering at Bellevue Hospital in New York City.
The Miramax cofounder has experienced a spate of health issues in recent years.

This was the Las Vegas Raiders' plan a year ago: A team with no realistic chance of getting out of last place in the AFC West hired the oldest coach in NFL history and traded a valuable third-round draft pick for a middle-of-the-road quarterback about to turn 35 years old.
In retrospect, it was bizarre but also on-brand for the Raiders. Since the Raiders made the Super Bowl at the end of the 2002 season, they have employed 15 head coaches, including interims and new coach Klint Kubiak, they've had 15 double-digit-loss seasons, and they've made only two playoff appearances, with zero wins. They haven't won a division ***** le in that time but have finished in last place in the division nine times. Investing in Pete Carroll and Geno Smith made no sense, but it has been decades since the Raiders made sense.
That's what made this offseason a nice surprise: The Raiders operated like a competent NFL team.
Carroll didn't work out, and he was replaced by Kubiak, the type of young, respected offensive mind that a team in the gutter should take a shot on. The roster was upgraded with a lot of big contracts, but nothing that should turn out to be a long-term hindrance or an embarrassment on the level of some other Raiders free-agent additions (Christian Wilkins, anyone?). The Raiders' trade/non-trade of Maxx Crosby was a messy affair, but everyone blamed the Ravens for it falling apart, and Las Vegas ended the ordeal by retaining Crosby, one of the best players in football.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Transportation Secretary Pete ***** igieg was the target of an anonymous report that police determined was false and that he says forced him to spend a night away from his four-year-old twins.
According to ***** igieg, a Michigan State Police officer and a child protective services worker came to his home in Traverse City after they received an anonymous report alleging he posed a danger to his children. Authorities arranged forensic interviews for his twins and instructed him not to be alone with them until the interviews were complete.
Buttigieg described the 24-hour ordeal in a Substack post as "among the darkest hours of my life."
Michigan State Police said in a statement to The ***** ociated Press they received an "anonymous report" and that they and child protective services "responded and determined the report was false."

Prosecutors in New York have dropped a rape charge against Harvey Weinstein after his accuser Jessica Mann declined to withstand another retrial.
"To be clear, we believe Ms. Mann's account and her credibility as a witness," Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg said in a Thursday statement. "This has been an extraordinarily taxing ordeal for her, and she has never wavered while testifying in front of two grand juries and three trial juries over the course of eight years. We thank her for her honesty and her tremendous bravery."
However, Weinstein will remain behind bars due to his other New York ***** ual felony conviction, as well as those in California.

The season cannot get much worse for select fantasy baseball items. These players are struggling mightily and are now injured. However, better days may be ahead. They are players with promise for much better baseball in the second half of the season. Consider adding or buying low on these MLB players to make a fantasy baseball playoff run.
On June 11, Seager hit the Injured List with a concussion. An injury originally expected to sideline Seager for about one week has become a 2-week ordeal.
The hope is that Seager can return as soon as today, Thursday, June 25. He is batting a mere .186. Seager does still flash his great power, with 9 home runs across 177 at-bats, pacing himself for 20+ once again. Seager batted >.270 in every MLB season since 2019. The law of averages will demand a great second half for Seager, who is owned in just 64% of fantasy baseball leagues.
The Dodgers outfielder has been out for roughly one month due to a hamstring injury. He is in Triple-A Oklahoma City in his final rehab starts. The Dodgers expect Hernandez's return on June 29 versus the Athletics.

The Magic Mike actor has not appeared at a public event since August 2025, when he was seen at The Wizard of Oz premiere at the Sphere in Las Vegas, and looked entirely unrecognizable on the cover of his memoir, pointing to his ill health.

It’s been a week since Brendan Sorsby announced he was turning pro, and it raised a lot of eyebrows, mainly because it happened so quickly.
Just two weeks ago, Sorsby had won his injunction against the NCAA, which would have allowed him to play this season for Texas Tech; however, the Big 12 decided to take the Red Raiders to court over the whole ordeal.
That might have scared not only Texas Tech but also Sorsby, who decided right after that to turn pro, but, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Sorsby was forced out.
He thinks part of the reason he was forced out of college was the fear that the courts or the Big 12 might eventually pull the rug from under Sorsby during the season.
There are also people around the NFL, according to Florio, who fear the same thing happening.

Joy-Anna Duggar aired her feelings about her brother's arrest scandal, describing it as the hardest time she's ever gone through. She opened up during a recent episode of her sister, Jinger Duggar's, eponymous podcast, where she explained how she is getting through the difficult phase.
"I think we're all grieving in different ways, but I think it just feels so heavy," she said before adding, "I definitely think as time goes on, certain things have gotten lighter, but I've really been struggling." Continuing the conversation, Joy-Anna revealed that the good thing she got out of the whole ordeal is leaning on the Lord more.

On the official NASCAR Hauler Talk Podcast, Senior Director of Racing Communications Amanda Ellis detailed the decision from the Sanctioning Body to not penalize Austin Dillon for what Brad Keselowski and spotter TJ Majors felt was intentional retaliation on Sunday at Nashville Superspeedway.
The entire ordeal began on Lap 145 when Dillon was spun off a chain reaction of events. There was a bottleneck on pit entry and coming down the frontstretch, Keselowski shaded low and stalled Dillon, who spun off the nose of Keselowski.
Dillon blamed Keselowski in real time.
Then, 47 laps later, there was a stack-up on a restart and Dillon followed Keselowski down the apron. Dillon connected with Keselowski, and crashed him as a result. In real time, Majors told Keselowski that he felt it was intentional payback and Keselowski himself indicated the same conviction
“You know, I felt like we had just made the adjustments on the car we needed to be competitive … and it’s pretty clear he wrecked me intentionally after seeing that replay,” Keselowski said on the Prime Video broadcast. “So, turnabout is fair play.”
