At least someone recognizes the Denver Broncos' true place in the NFL power rankings.
In a 1-32 NFL pre-training camp power ranking list compiled by Josh Kendall of The Atlantic, the Broncos are ranked as the second-best team in the league, behind only the Los Angeles Rams. Denver ranked two spots ahead of the 2025 AFC champion New England Patriots, and three spots higher than the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. The Buffalo Bills rounded out the top five, coming in at No. 3.
Denver will face the Rams and Seahawks within the first six weeks of the season, as well as facing the Bills and Patriots consecutively at the end of the year in Weeks 16 and 17. Three of those games are primetime, nationwide matchups.
In his rankings, Kendall also listed one "new thing" about each team. For the Broncos, it was the switch from Payton to offensive coordinator Davis Webb on the offensive headset.
"Head coach Sean Payton turned over play-calling duties to 31-year-old offensive coordinator Davis Webb in the offseason, either as a guard against Webb taking another job or because of a legitimate belief that it will improve the offense," Kendall wrote. The Atlanta Dream played host to the Las Vegas Aces on Monday night in a matchup of two teams firmly in the WNBA playoff picture entering the last two months of the regular season. The night was even more special for Atlanta as it celebrated "Barbie Night," which honored star forward Angel Reese, whose nickname is "Barbie."
Reese recently debuted her own signature Barbie doll with Mattel, featuring Reese's ponytail, pink nails, and an all-pink game-day look, and talked before the game about the importance of having a doll that young black dolls could play with.
"I didn't have a lot of dolls because I didn't have dolls that looked like me much, and that's why I kind of wanna really wanted to make sure this was super intentional," she said before the game.
Although the Dream lost in blowout fashion, with a final score of 109-87, Reese made sure to leave her mark on the floor. She finished the game with only a -3 +/- in a game Atlanta lost by 22 points, and scored 23 points of her own on an efficient 10-for-19 from the field, all while snagging 16 rebounds and making a massive impact defensively.
As great as she was, some fans were upset about one play involving Reese in the second half, as the game was starting to get out of hand. During the play in question, Reese inadvertently elbows Aces defender Stephanie Talbot in the face as she makes a move to the basket. Surprisingly, Talbot was called for the foul, and Reese stood over her and made the "and-1" gesture while Talbot held her face on the ground.

English defender Charlie Cresswell has joined Stade Rennes on a five-year contract.
The former England youth international left Leeds United for Toulouse in the summer of 2023 after having come through the academy at the West Yorkshire side.
The Preston-born player spent two seasons with Toulouse, featuring 66 times in total scoring eight goals and making five ****** ists. He has now made the swap to Rennes where he has signed until 2031.
"There's been a lot of talk about my signing with Rennes these past few weeks," Cresswell said on joining Les Rouge et Noirs.
"Finally arriving here and making this project a reality is fantastic. I'm really very happy. I had two wonderful years in Toulouse, I couldn't have hoped for better, but football is cyclical and the prospect of playing in European competition was a very good reason. The more weapons USC has in the passing game, the more explosive the Trojans' offense will be. Last season, the Trojans had two bona fide wide receiver weapons in Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane. They also had a reliable, sure-thing tight end in Lake McRee. This season, there is some uncertainty among Jayden Maiava's pass-catchers, but a freshman is still providing some excitement. In a recent article, Lorenzo Reyna projects a highly touted recruit to be a breakout candidate for the Trojans in fall camp. Here is what he had to say about freshman Kayden Dixon-Wyatt:

Defensive tackles are more in demand now than they have ever been. The numbers show that quick interior pressure is the best way to disrupt modern quarterbacks, giving interior rushers a huge profile boost.
As important as they are in today's game, there are so many great interior defensive linemen that it's not uncommon for even great defenders at the position to fly under the radar.
That's certainly the case for Carolina Panthers stud Derrick Brown, who's been performing at an elite level since entering the league back in 2020. Those who know ball recognize Brown's ability, though.
Brown is the highest-rated player at his position in Madden NFL 27, and recently earned a top-five ranking at his position from Bucky Brooks at NFL.com. Brooks puts the Pro Bowler at No. 5:

Manchester United defender Gabrielle George is expected to sign for Brighton & Hove Albion according to reports.
George came through the academy at United and went on to play several seasons at Everton before returning to the club in the summer of 2023. An ACL injury disrupted her first season at the club but she became a semi-regular upon her return to fitness.
However, with George not a guaranteed starter she is now set to seek regular game time with Brighton according to the reliable Emma Sander of BBC Sport with the Seagulls set to pay a six-figure fee for the 29-year-old.
Although not a regular, George's departure will mean United's defence depth will take another hit after Millie Turner left the club last month.

Bayern Munich was rumored to have interest in a few defenders during the summer, but nothing material emerged when it came to center-backs.
As it stands, the Bavarians seem content to go into the season with Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, Kim Min-jae, and Hiroki Itō as the quartet in central defense.
"We're talking about competition, which I like and which is something I've personally experienced. I played in the same roles as Minjae, Upamecano, and Tah. The most important thing is proving yourself on the pitch. I have to compliment Minjae: the way he presents himself, the way he performs on the pitch – and the fact that he doesn't talk. He always has the right answer in every situation: his performances have always been top-notch for us. For me, it's important to see him deliver the way he does. The 2026 MLB Trade Deadline is finally behind us. It was a whirlwind day and a whirlwind week-plus since the first major domino fell on the trade market. In reality, we won't really know how teams did at this year's deadline until the World Series trophy is hoisted or some of the prospects who got dealt have more years of experience under their belt, but that's not a fun truth for this exercise. Instead, we're gonna talk about who won or lost the deadline right now, just after it all went down.
This was a super fun trade deadline. We had some out-of-left-field moves. We had some top 50 prospects get traded. We had some established veterans going to new teams, and we had some typically passive teams trying to be aggressive. It all made for an enjoyable trade deadline that I didn't see coming. Now don't ruin it by taking a whole year off from playing games.
Yes, Tarik Skubal is a winner even if people are suggesting that he and the Dodgers have broken baseball. He was traded to the odds-on favorite to win the World Series. That's a big win for any player, which I guess makes Kris Bubic a winner too.
We should also take a minute and call River Ryan a winner. The discourse about him online has been aggressively harsh and bordering on illogical. He didn't become a full-time pitcher until 2022, when he was 23 years old. He had a fully healthy 2023 and 2024 season, and even reached the majors in 2024 before he blew out his arm and needed UCL surgery. He missed the entire 2025 season recovering from that and then returned this season. He looked good in Triple-A before a hamstring injury sidelined him. I don't care that he's 27 years old. I don't think he's "injury ***** e"; he had one major arm injury and a hamstring injury. Is he a risk? Sure, but he's a talented pitcher, and he's eventually going to get to show it in Detroit.
Even if the Dodgers got Skubal, they might still have to go through the Boston Red Sox. Say what you want about how many prospects the Red Sox gave up today (and I will say some things later in this article), but they are certainly building a team to contend for this season. This team just swept the Dodgers on the road over the weekend and put together the best month of July of any team in baseball, so the front office decided they had to go for it. They added Adley Rutschman to provide a major upgrade at catcher for 2026 and 2027. They also added Eli White as a solid fourth outfielder who can defend and run the bases well, and then added Erik Miller as a solid left-handed reliever under team control through 2030, which the team really needed. Those are all solid pieces to add to a roster that is performing and plans to make a run in the playoffs. They gave up a lot of young players to get those pieces, but you certainly can't argue that the Red Sox are making a push to win in 2026.

One of the Seattle Seahawks fan-favorite players may be on the shelf, as fullback Robbie Ouzts wasn't at practice once again.
Possibly more concerning is the verbiage used by head coach Mike Macdonald when he talked about trying to gain more information on Ouzts' "situation."
Making this potentially worse is the fact that Ouzts missed the last two games of 2025 season with a neck injury. There's nothing concretely linking these two things together, but considering the fact that Ouzts was practicing fully and then suddenly missing combined with the fact that his position requires him to repeatedly slam into opposing defenders to open holes for the running game…consider me concerned. Hopefully this will blow over and Ouzts will be back out there pancaking defenders.
In other injury news, running back Jacardia Wright also suffered a leg injury, but there was no update on him from Macdonald.

Allisha Gray exited the Atlanta Dream's Monday, Aug. 3 game versus the Las Vegas Aces early.

With their lower value trade chips gone on deadline day, the Mets moved on to trading players with more significant value. The Pirates were the eventual landing spot for the first of these deals, landing Luke Weaver— along with some coverage of his contract—for infield prospect Sammy Stafura.
Stafura was drafted in the second round of the 2023 draft by the Reds out of Walter Panas High School. Two years later, he was traded to Pittsburgh as part of a deadline deal for Ke'Bryan Hayes. Stafura is actually a lifelong Mets fan from Westchester, the second local product (after Gary Gill Hill, acquired from the Rays in the Freddy Peralta trade) acquired by the Mets at this deadline. It is always cool when you can bring in players who are enthusiastic about the organization.
As for the on-field player, Stafura is your classic toolsy middle infielder; he has plus speed, is a decent shortstop defender, and has plus potential raw power. His on field performance prior to June of 2026 could best be described as "good, but not great". Then he hit 16 homers in his last 22 games at High-A Greensboro. That's something that should certainly grab your attention.
With the upside that performance portends comes serious hit tool questions. Stafura is striking out almost 30% of the time in High-A, is running a 71% Z-contact, and has a clear propensity to chase. This all portends to serious hit tool and/or pitch recognition issues, flaws that could be crippling as he moves up the minor league ladder. This weakness will likely him keep him at the back-end or just off offseason top-100 lists (a distinction that is largely meaningless from those that sneak on to the back of the list).
Sometimes guys with big tools and serious hit tool questions have a huge month with no root cause beyond statistical noise. Sometimes it's the product of actual changes that are real and sustainable. Parsing whether Stafura's recent surge – which pushed his OPS at High-A from the high 500s into the 1.000+ range – is the former or the latter is nigh impossible for us on the public side. **** , it's not even all that easy for team-side **** ysts to figure out. What this does serve to illustrate is the high risk, high reward nature of this profile.

Fabio Paratici's busy summer continues with Fiorentina's 7th incoming transfer of the season (9th if you count the loan redemptions for Marco Brescianini and Giovanni Fabbian). I wasn't particularly high on this move when the rumor broke a couple weeks ago and I'm no higher now. João Mário Neto Lopes is 26 and has 3 caps for Portugal but I don't see him as anything more than a depth piece. He's got the requisite pace and technical ability to look very good in a YouTube compilation, sure, but his disastrous defending means that he struggles to make a positive impact over 90 minutes.
A Porto product, João Mário moved to the Juvenuts last year for €12 million but suffered a Mattia Vitiesque trajectory: unable to get on the pitch for either Igor Tudor or Luciano Spalletti, he was loaned to Bologna in January but failed to elbow past Nadir Zortea for minutes under Vincenzo Italiano and the Oscar Mayers declined his option. I can't imagine he'll shoulder past (sigh) Alex Jimenez in Florence. His arrival also sounds the death knell on Dodô's time with the club.

This comes amid claims that the Red Devils have entered the race for the signature of Racing Santander talent Jorge Salinas.
Defender Salinas is for his part fresh off something of a breakout campaign in 2025/26. En route to Racing securing promotion back to the top-flight of Spanish football, the 19-year-old racked up 33 appearances, chipping in with six **** ists along the way.
Salinas chiefly takes to the pitch in a left-back berth, but is also more than capable of slotting into a central role at the heart of defence.
Considered one of the standout up-and-coming youngsters in his home country of Spain, the stopper has been linked with moves to a number of leading La Liga clubs this summer.

After getting drafted first overall in last month's MLB Draft, new Chicago White Sox shortstop and former UCLA Bruin Roch Cholowsky homered for the first time with the team, going deep in a Complex League game for the White Sox.
The expectations are sky-high for Cholowsky, who was viewed as the draft's No. 1 prospect throughout the 2026 college baseball season. Baseball America shares that optimism, ranking Cholowsky as the White Sox's No. 1 prospect and having Cholowsky as the No. 5 prospect in the entire sport.
Cholowsky is a known commodity, being a two-time finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and hitting .329 over his 178 game career. Cholowsky slugged 52 home runs and drove in 167 runs as a Bruin.
The real question is how the White Sox will use Cholowsky. Cholowsky is a capable enough defender to stick at shortstop long-term but Chicago is seeing 24-year old Colson Montgomery have a bit of a breakout season at shortstop. Montgomery is tied for ninth in the majors with 25 home runs even if he's batting just .215 on the season.
MLB.com hasn't reflected their prospect rankings post-draft but currently they have Chicago's No. 1 prospect, Caleb Bonemer, as a shortstop/third baseman and their No. 3 prospect, Billy Carlson, as another option at shortstop for the White Sox.

Over the years I've become especially value-driven with my salary cap drafts. I'm trying to leverage the market, I'm trying to find under-appreciated players. There's nothing wrong with that strategy, but often I come out with rosters that are more about leftovers than they are about players I actually like. This year I'm going to try to remember that it's okay to "overpay" occasionally for a player I really believe in, or a player I especially need at the time. Plus, heck, you're supposed to ****** emble a team you're going to enjoy following for several months. Don't forget to have some fun with it, too. — Scott Pianowski
It's probably a bit of a stretch to call Daniel Jones Shane Steichen's handpicked guy but at the same time, it was pretty clear that the Colts were putting their thumb on the scale to make him the heavy favorite in last year's camp competition. Regardless, I allowed my own bias about how Jones had played over the last couple of seasons to essentially prevent a ceiling outcome from even crossing my mind. I ended up losing out on chances at significant value for multiple Colts players—many of whom I had been a long-time defender of like Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr.—late in fantasy drafts. Generally, if a sharp play-caller like Steichen taps a reclamation project passer who has shown positive signs in their career, we should be open to the possibility they bring some ADP beats up along with them. This season, I'm keeping my mind open to Kyler Murray reviving the Vikings offense, should he indeed prove to be Kevin O'Connell's Week 1 starter. — Matt Harmon
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the perfect example — working behind or next to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for his opening two seasons. Very few memorable plays stood out. His role was more restricting than we hoped. It was easy to think we already knew what he was as an NFL player. Nico Collins was another perfect example back in 2023. But before the Year 2 breakout there was the Year 3 breakout. Before we believed the best fantasy ****** ets performed at their peak player immediately, we actually had some patience — especially in new situations. Whether that be a seismic coaching staff change in the form of a new play-caller, a new starting quarterback they are attached to or a sociable shift in the pecking order — and sometimes even all of the above. So Rome Odunze, Marvin Harrison Jr., Ladd McConkey, Xavier Worthy and Jonathon Brooks… you are on my radar. — Josh Norris
