An Ohio congresswoman is facing major blowback online after suggesting that lynchings are on the rise in the United States, despite that claim being widely debunked last week.

This summer, a 28-year-old digital content marketer packed up his suitcases and duct-taped boxes and fled Russia, leaving behind his family and friends and not knowing when he'll be able to return.
"It is very sad to leave Russia," he said in the southern city of Krasnodar before heading for the border with Georgia.
He blamed "the political situation" in Russia and complications over authorities restricting internet access as his reasons for leaving. He is one of a number of people who either left or are contemplating a move amid recent Ukrainian drone attacks inside Russia and persistent rumors of a coming mobilization of troops for the 4 1/2-year-old war.

Kansas City, Missouri — Vice President JD Vance announced Monday the Trump administration will suspend roughly 870,000 people suspected of defrauding pandemic-era small business programs from receiving future federal loans.
The vice president contended that borrowers who stole taxpayer money should no longer be eligible to receive loans from government-backed programs.
"If you screwed the American taxpayer, the federal government is now going to say you're cut off, no more," Vance told reporters. "You shouldn't be applying anymore, and if you do apply, you're no longer able to get those benefits."

Extreme weather is creating a more demanding environment for property owners, insurers, and communities. According to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), the United States recorded 27 confirmed billion-dollar weather and climate disasters in 2024, resulting in a total cost of $182.7 billion. These events spanned a wide range of extremes, including severe storm events, tropical cyclones, wildfires, drought/heat waves, and winter storm/cold wave events. Over the last decade, ***** ulative losses from these disasters have exceeded $1.4 trillion, driven significantly by population growth, material wealth, and increased development in hazard-prone areas. These figures suggest that the financial consequences of extreme events may increasingly depend on how accurately the value of exposed property is understood before a loss occurs.
That question becomes especially consequential during reconstruction. A 2026 report from Bloomberg, featured in Claims Journal, noted that surveys conducted by United Policyholders since 2007 found an average of two-thirds of wildfire survivors reporting that they were underinsured, with an average shortfall of $200,000 or more. The Insurance Information Institute has similarly estimated that two-thirds of American homeowners may be underinsured for wildfire losses, typically by about 20%, and in some cases by as much as 60%. Frequency can add another layer to that calculation. Data from NCEI indicate that the average interval between U.S. billion-dollar disaster events was approximately 16 days during 2020–2024, compared with 82 days during the 1980s. NCEI notes that shorter intervals can leave less time and fewer resources for response, recovery, and preparation for subsequent events. As the time between major events contracts, property valuations may require more frequent attention because construction costs, labor conditions, materials, and local economic circumstances can change between policy reviews.

After spending the morning at the Pentagon to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11th tragedy, President Donald Trump apparently had another attack on his mind in the afternoon — posting the 5-year-old video of him telling January 6, 2021, rioters to go home after they violently stormed the Capitol building.
The video, which was posted in full on Trump's Truth Social account Friday without any further context, shows the president repeating his false claim that he won the 2020 election but telling rioters to go home: "We have to have peace. So go home, we love you, you're very special."
A White House spokesperson said Trump reposted the video Friday as "a reminder to everyone that what the Democrats did to weaponize the justice system against President Trump has been debunked thoroughly."
It's unclear what cases they were referencing — the criminal case against Trump concerning the Capitol attack was dismissed due to his win in the 2024 election.
Trump has been repeatedly emphasizing voter fraud in recent months, increasingly and without evidence accusing Democrats of cheating in elections. At the GOP midterm convention this week, he implored the audience to "cheat like ****** " to help Republicans keep control of Congress.

Back in the late 70s and early 1980s, my small town had a mom-and-pop convenience store, Paul's Market, as well as one location of a regional chain, Richdale's. It later added a store from a larger chain, White Hen Pantry.
7-Eleven and other large chains existed, but local stores, even one-offs, were common. Now, just over the past few years, a number of bigger players have swallowed up some smaller chains.
The banner retirements are real and named, according to data from NACS Magazine.
GetGo was sold to Circle K, Redwood Markets went to Jacksons (24 stores, California), and Maverick bought the ****** & Go Brand, which included about 400 locations. In all three cases, the name changes were gradual as stores got remodeled, but in the end, the classic names disappeared.
Now, the same thing has happened again as Casey's has begun the process of removing the CEFCO name from the 198 stores it added when it bought the rival chain in 2024.

SOFIA, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Bulgaria is investigating the cause of a fire at a weapons storage facility operated by EMCO, including the possibility of sabotage and a link to a previous blaze at ‌another of the company's facilities in August, the interior minister said.
No injuries were reported in the fire, ‌which broke out near the village of Tsareva Livada and lit up the night sky, according to videos broadcast locally. The incident came weeks after an explosion and fire at another EMCO weapons depot in western Bulgaria.
Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told journalists on Saturday that the fire was under control and that an investigation was underway.
"We will review previous cases in which similar fires occurred in the warehouses of this company, as well as at other companies, in order to look for a possible connection or a ‌similar pattern," he said.
"We are not ruling ⁠out outside interference."

When the Miami Dolphins take the field on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, a trio of first-year players have the potential to collectively make NFL history. Three of Miami's 13 selections from the 2026 NFL Draft were wide receivers Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr.
Douglas was Miami's first receiver taken during this past April's draft when the Dolphins used pick No. 75 on the Texas Tech product. Bell from Louisville was selected with pick No. 94, and Coleman Jr. with pick No. 177 out of Missouri.
While a rare occurrence in any team class, there have been several instances where three receivers were selected by one team in a single draft. In fact, the Dolphins last tripled up at the position in 1975 with Freddie Solomon, Morris Owens and Leonard Isabell.
What has never happened before in league history is three drafted receivers each recording a reception during Week 1 of their rookie season. Douglas, Bell and Coleman could be that lone trio come Sunday. There have been a few close hits, but in the dozen or so cases, Miami's young trio could break the ice.
For Miami in 1975, none of these three recorded a catch back in Week 1 when they lost to the Oakland Raiders. Back in 2014, the Jacksonville Jaguars had three wideouts haul in a catch during Week 1 as rookies, but only two were actual draft selections.

Deutsche Bank Aktiengesellschaft (NYSE:DB) said on September 7 that it had settled a Frankfurt lawsuit brought by former banker Dario Schiraldi, according to Reuters. He had sought €152 million in damages, but the settlement amount was not disclosed. The bank said the agreement would have only a small financial effect on third-quarter earnings.
The distinction matters: €152 million was the claim, while the payment remains confidential. The earnings impact also does not establish the cash cost, because a settlement payment may discharge a liability for which an expense was recognized earlier.
Four former employees continue to pursue claims exceeding £600 million in London. The Frankfurt agreement therefore reduces the number of unresolved cases without establishing the cost of resolving the wider dispute.

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — The Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo, the world's fastest-growing outbreak of the disease on record, has now spread to seven provinces in the African country, local authorities said. And it's showing no signs of slowing down.
According to the governor of the northwestern province of Sud-Ubangi, Jean-Rene Galekwa Vundawe, laboratory tests by Congo's national research institute found in a sample the Bundibugyo virus, the rare kind of Ebola that caused the current outbreak.
The statement, which was issued on Thursday and reported by local media outlets on Friday, said the sample was from the Bulu health district in Sud-Ubangi. It did not disclose other information about the source of the infection.
The development makes Sud-Ubangi the seventh province affected by the outbreak — and the first in western Congo — a worrisome spread west from what was previously concentrated in the country's east. A case was detected in Kinshasa in May in a person who had traveled from eastern Congo, but the Congolese capital was not classified as an affected province.
As of Wednesday, 6,942 cases and 3,349 deaths have been reported, according to the latest government figures.

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — The fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record in eastern Congo is rapidly spreading beyond its epicenter, Africa's top health body said Thursday.
In recent weeks, new cases and deaths have declined in Ituri province, the outbreak's epicenter, but risen sharply in neighboring North Kivu and Haut-Uele, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said at a weekly briefing.
According to the latest government figures released on Thursday, 6,843 cases have been reported, including 3,310 deaths. Ituri province remains the hardest-hit province, with more than 5,400 cases while North Kivu has reported over 1,000 cases since the outbreak was declared in May.
The outbreak in eastern Congo is spreading under extremely difficult conditions, fueled by insecurity, displacement, a health workers' strike and intense population movements. The situation is particularly concerning at displacement sites, where residents already live in extremely precarious conditions.
The World Health Organization has said the outbreak remains out of control and is on track to surpass the 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola outbreak, the deadliest on record, which killed more than 11,000 people, primarily in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

What's a birthday party without confetti and a few tears? There were certainly both at Coach's Spring 2027 show, at which the brand celebrated its 85th anniversary. But while eight and a half decades in business is a pretty big deal, creative director Stuart Vevers wasn't interested in a mere anniversary spectacle rehashing the label's greatest hits. Instead, he used the milestone as a chance to revisit the pieces and ideas that have come to define Coach by pulling them apart (quite literally in some cases—see the Inside-Out Brooklyn Tote) and putting them back together in ways that felt totally fresh.
"I didn't want to make a retrospective," Vevers said in a press release, explaining that his latest collection is centered around the concept of memory, and the way familiar things change and evolve as we live with them. After 85 years, Coach has plenty of history to draw from, but Vevers isn't interested in preserving it with museum-level precision. He'd rather draw straight from the source material and turn it into something simultaneously familiar and brand new.
To that end, the show opened with hallmark Coach silhouettes rendered in cool neutrals: oversized trench coats, tailored jackets, structured leather bags, and chunky pendants, all in shades of dove gray, black, white, soft brown, and natural leather. Some of the tailoring was made from garment-dyed, sun-faded jersey, which gave a blazer or trench coat's shape a hoodie-like softness. It was a clever way of presenting Coach's heritage in a manner that felt lived-in rather than preserved behind glass, as if these brand signatures had been worn, washed, and loved over the course of many years. Meanwhile, bias-cut dresses and skirts came in everything from repurposed lining fabrics and overdyed georgette to denim and lamé, adding another layer of innovation to the line-up.

Midway through the show, the parade of earth tones gave way to something much brighter and bolder. Models took to the catwalk in head-to-toe sequin dresses and maxi-skirt sets in powder pink, periwinkle, mint, and metallics. Alongside them came gift boxes reimagined as purses, leather birthday hats, and crowns, pushing the subtle anniversary theme into a full-blown party motif.

Kim Zolciak is facing nearly $150,000 in alleged debts as she deals with ongoing legal issues involving her family. The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star faces two separate lawsuits over unpaid debts. The cases involve money tied to her former business and a credit card account. Both lawsuits remain ongoing.
According to Us Weekly, Headway Capital sued Zolciak in April 2026. The financial company claims she entered a business-use line of credit agreement for 8 Busy B's LLC. The company alleges Zolciak did not repay $75,000. Headway Capital is seeking $130,634.03, including interest.
According to court documents, Headway Capital claims Zolciak owes $74,983.89 in principal. The lawsuit also lists $55,650.14 in accrued interest through Aug. 13, 2024. Headway Capital also seeks prejudgment interest from Aug. 14, 2024, plus statutory post-judgment interest. Zolciak received the lawsuit papers at her Georgia home from a Gwinnett County sheriff's deputy on June 23. A hearing set for Aug. 8 was later canceled, and the court has not set another date. Zolciak has not responded to the lawsuit.
Zolciak also faces a separate lawsuit over an alleged unpaid credit card balance. Portfolio Recovery ****** ociates, LLC sued her on July 13 and claims she owes $16,759.51. The company says it bought the debt from Barclays Bank Delaware in May 2024. The lawsuit says Zolciak "failed to make payments" and "defaulted" under the agreement.
According to an affidavit, a process server made more than 10 attempts to serve Zolciak at her former home. Security reportedly said she no longer lived there, while several calls went unanswered. The process server's most recent attempt was on Aug. 22.

A federal court on Sept. 9 dismissed a lawsuit between former Memphis football receiver Cortez Braham and the NCAA, ending a legal saga that stretched on for more than a year.
Braham initially sued the NCAA in 2025 to get an additional year of eligibility. He was granted a preliminary injunction before transferring to Memphis, where he was the Tigers' leading receiver in 2025. After the season ended, Braham's lawyers filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
The NCAA fought it, saying in legal filings that it wanted to enforce the "rule of restitution" against Memphis for playing a player they said should have been ineligible. Lawyers for both sides argued their cases in a Las Vegas courtroom in March.
A ruling finally came on Sept. 9, when the panel of judges ruled that the case was moot and dismissed it.
"Famously, in sports, "it ain't over 'til it's over." But, in this case, it's over," Judge Gabriel P. Sanchez wrote. "The game clock has run out on the 2025 college football season. With these appeals, the NCAA attempts one last Hail Mary pass: asking us to reverse the preliminary injunctions granted to these college football players that allowed them to play in the now complete 2025 season. Because these injunctions have already expired and these players' collegiate careers are over, no effective relief can be granted to the NCAA. We therefore dismiss these appeals as moot."

A federal appeals court ruled that a Texas woman can't sue two Santa Fe police officers who pinned her face down on a fire ant hill while she was handcuffed, causing her to receive hundreds of painful bites to her face.
In an August 6 opinion, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit reversed a lower court decision allowing Taylor Rogers' lawsuit against the City of Santa Fe and the two officers to move forward. Instead, the panel held that the officers were shielded from her claims under the doctrine of qualified immunity.
In a press conference last Friday, Rogers' attorney, Randy Kallinen, criticized the ruling.
"The United States 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is out of touch with the Constitution and the public, granting police immunity in the most egregious of cases," Kallinen said. "The people need to elect officials who will nominate and affirm judges loyal to the Constitution."
Kallinen told The Daily News that he has requested an en banc hearing for the full 15-member 5th Circuit to review the case, and he'll petition the Supreme Court for review if that fails.
