July 28 (Reuters) - Apple's market capitalization briefly surpassed $5 trillion for the first time on Tuesday, making it only the second company ever to achieve that milestone ‌after Nvidia.
Its shares were last up 0.72% at $339.33, giving it a market capitalization ‌of $4.98 trillion. At a session high of $342.89, Apple's market value stood at $5.036 trillion.
Apple became the most valuable company in the world earlier this month, overtaking chipmaker Nvidia - which had been at the top since June 2025 and was the first company ever to breach the $5 trillion threshold.
Nvidia's shares were last up 0.53% at $197.63, valuing it at $4.78 trillion.
Apple has benefited from strong demand for its products as well ‌as its decision to skip the ongoing AI spending race among Big Tech rivals that is sapping their cash flows and saddling them with humongous debt.

International stocks are performing admirably this year. As of July 22, the MSCI ACWI ex-US Investable Market Index, which combines developed and emerging market equities, is higher by 11.51%. Sounds good and it is, but investors should dig deeper.
Artificial intelligence (AI)-adjacent and technology stocks, many hailing from emerging markets, have been key contributors to international equity upside this year. As a result, markets such as South Korea and Taiwan loom large in some supposedly diverse international ETFs. Plus, some of those funds now devote significant percentages of their portfolios to growth stocks.
For investors looking to defray some of those risks while adding more value exposure to their portfolios, the ALPS O'Shares International Developed Quality Dividend ETF (OEFA) is an idea to consider. With its emphasis on quality traits and dividend growth, OEFA could be an ideal complement to growth-heavy portfolios and for investors looking for a more prudent way to gain international exposure.
With the S&P 500 heavily allocated to AI-related stocks and with the same becoming true of some developing markets, developed market exposure – attainable via OEFA – becomes all the more compelling because the sector-level profiles in many developed markets don't resemble those found here in the U.S.

According to Bankrate's Mortgage Rates, the national average for a 30-year fixed mortgage is 6.61%. That's uncomfortably high and a major headwind to many prospective homebuyers, particularly those in the first-time category. But it's not all bad news in the mortgage market. Confirming opportunity abounds for fixed income investors with ETFs such as the WisdomTree Mortgage Plus Bond Fund (MTGP), some experts view mortgage-backed securities (MBS) as one of the more fundamentally sturdy corners of the bond market.
The actively managed MTGP, which turns seven years old in November, sports a 30-day SEC yield of 4.31%. That's impressive when considering the scant credit risk typically ***** ociated with MBS. The case for the WisdomTree ETF is fortified by a robust fundamental outlook.
"Agency mortgage-backed securities fundamentals remain supported by a combination of elevated mortgage rates, limited refinancing incentives, constrained housing turnover, and low net supply," noted BNP Paribas.
As noted above, high mortgage rates are drags on residential real estate activity. Those rates are barriers to entry for many buyers, which morphs into a problem for sellers. However, that situation can be a boon for MBS.

If you're a carrier operating in today's freight market, with tight margins, rate volatility, and rising operating costs, the real issue isn't the tool. It's whether the financing actually fits how your trucking business runs day to day.
Because in trucking, survival comes down to one thing: keeping cash moving at the same speed as freight.
Every carrier deals with the same basic cash flow problem:
Fuel, payroll, insurance, and maintenance are immediate and unavoidable expenses.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution lets retirees transfer up to $111,000 directly from an IRA to charity, satisfying the RMD with zero taxable income.
2026 tax law changes cap cash charitable deductions at $1,000 for non-itemizers, making QCDs far more tax-efficient than traditional donate-and-deduct strategies.
Keeping RMD income off your AGI via a QCD can also prevent Medicare IRMAA surcharges, which trigger above $109,000 for individuals.
Are you ahead, or behind on retirement? SmartAsset's free tool can match you with a financial advisor in minutes to help you answer that today. Each advisor has been carefully vetted, and must act in your best interests. Don't waste another minute; learn more here.
Required minimum distributions ambush retirees. You spent decades building your traditional IRA, and now the IRS demands you pull money out whether you need it or not. That forced income can push you into a higher bracket, raise your Medicare premiums, and increase the share of your Social Security benefits that gets taxed. If you already donate to charity, there is a fully legal, IRS-sanctioned way to satisfy your RMD without that money ever touching your tax return.

July 9 (Reuters) - OpenAI's CEO of AGI deployment Fidji Simo said on Thursday she will step down from her full-time role and pivot to a part-time advisory position at the ‌ChatGPT maker, following an extended medical leave for a neuroimmune condition.
"Three months ago, I had to ‌go on medical leave after a severe exacerbation of a chronic illness I've lived with for seven years. During that time, it became clear that the road to recovery would be much longer and more complex than I had anticipated - and that I needed to focus on it fully," Simo said in a post on X.
Simo, previously chief executive of Instacart and the head of the Facebook app at Meta, was among the three directors that joined OpenAI's board ‌in March 2024 after Sam Altman returned as CEO.
"I am really sad about this and very grateful for all Fidji has done for OpenAI, and even grateful for her friendship and who she is as a person," Altman said in an X post.
Simo's exit from the senior role also comes as OpenAI gears up to go public amid insatiable demand for the technology.
