During a September 8 episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer examined the broader aerospace ecosystem following GE Aerospace's (NYSE:GE) nearly $12 billion agreement to acquire castings specialist Consolidated Precision Products (CPP). Commenting on the strategic importance of supply chain control and the enduring strength of commercial and defense aviation despite rising oil prices, Cramer stated:
I still believe in the data center, but I also want to open your eyes to other opportunities. This morning, for example, GE Aerospace spent nearly $12 billion to buy a castings company called Consolidated Precision Products to integrate this key segment into its supply chain. It's vital for both commercial aircraft and particularly defense, both of which are booming. Now, on a day where oil's up, you might not want to focus on anything airline related, but travel's been booming the whole time, the whole time the Iranian war's been going on. This acquisition will pay off quickly for GE, making it more likely that they can accelerate production. This is also good news, therefore, for Boeing, a huge customer of GE that needs to boost its production speed.
GE is relatively close to its highs, deservedly so. Boeing? Nowhere near its high. Yet the order book is full. Last week, there was this negative article about how Boeing is being hurt by the problem-filled Spirit AeroSystems acquisition. It made that one two years ago. But that actually had to be done because Boeing, like GE Aerospace, needs to get better control of its supply chain. Aha, you say, who needs that kind of problem? Boeing just reported its slowest deliveries in 4 months. I come back and say, wait a second. First, the problems from the Spirit deal are now behind them. You know what? The story is actually old news.
Plus, CEO Kelly Ortberg has made it clear that orders would be lumpy. I knew that. And look, I know the high price of oil, particularly jet fuel, is bad news for the airlines. But the higher price of fuel also makes these new engines and airplanes far more valuable than before. Why? They're way more energy efficient. It's a good situation that has nothing to do with the data center. It does require more, better tech that AI can help with.
GE Aerospace (NYSE:GE) and The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) represent two distinct pillars of the aerospace manufacturing ecosystem, operating at massive commercial scale. GE Aerospace reported second-quarter revenue of $13.3 billion, up 21% year-over-year, driven by strong commercial engine services and record internal shop visit output. Its total order backlog extends past $210 billion, supported by sustained airline demand for propulsion systems and aftermarket maintenance.

On September 3, a caller asked if UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) has enough profitable growth that they should consider adding it to their portfolio. Mad Money host Jim Cramer replied:
Yes, the answer: it does, it does. You know, I've got to tell you, I thought that last quarter was very, very good. The stock market did not like the quarter as much as I thought it would, but the stock's making a stand here. I think that UNH is good to buy.
Cramer's bullish stance rests on the core strength of the company's financial delivery and improving execution. In its second-quarter 2026 report, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) posted consolidated revenues of $112 billion and operating earnings of $8 billion. Adjusted diluted earnings per share reached $6.38, outpacing Wall Street expectations by $1.48. Driven by strong performance across both the UnitedHealthcare and Optum divisions, management raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $19.50 to $20. Furthermore, the medical care ratio improved to 86.7% down from 89.4% a year prior, showing that medical cost trends and pricing are aligning effectively.
On the other hand, Wall Street remains cautious about lingering cost pressures across the managed care landscape. Even though the medical care ratio improved compared to last year, patients continuing to utilize medical services at a high rate keeps expenses heavy. At the same time, commercial insurance margins are taking longer to bounce back. Adding in tighter payment adjustments for government-backed plans along with heavy spending on tech infrastructure, cautious investors could have reasons to wait rather than chasing the stock higher.
Insider Monkey's data tracking over 1000 hedge funds shows accumulation by major ****** et managers. 143 hedge funds had positions in UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) in Q2 compared to 130 in Q1. Of those funds, Fisher ****** et Management was the top shareholder with nearly 9.1 million shares. The firm increased its position in the stock by 74% in the quarter. Additionally, short interest remains low, with the short percentage of the float sitting at 1.92%, showing a general lack of aggressive bearish bets against the stock.

GE Aerospace (GE) is acquiring castings supplier Consolidated Precision Products for nearly $12 billion, with Cramer calling it a defense-driven win for the stock.

GE's 433% five-year run tempers urgency, but the recent 9.5% monthly pullback gives new investors a better entry point.

On August 27, ****** an Machinery Inc. (NASDAQ:TITN) reported results for the fiscal second quarter ended July 31, and the numbers point in two different directions at once. Revenue fell to $496.4 million from $546.4 million a year earlier, and the net loss widened to $9.2 million, or $0.40 per diluted share, compared with a $6.0 million loss a year ago. Yet gross margin climbed to 18.6% from 17.1%, and management held its full year profitability targets steady even while cutting its outlook for Europe. Sorting out that mix is the real story of the quarter.
The clearest bright spot is margin. Gross profit margin expanded 150 basis points to 18.6%, which the company attributed to stronger equipment margins as aged inventory keeps shrinking, plus a richer mix of parts and service revenue. That improvement showed up directly in the segments. Agriculture's pretax loss narrowed sharply to $3.3 million from $12.3 million a year ago, even though segment revenue fell to $310.2 million on an 8.4% same-store sales decline. Construction told an even better story, with revenue rising to $78.6 million from $72.0 million on 9.2% same-store growth, and the segment flipped to $0.4 million of pretax income from a $1.2 million pretax loss last year, helped by data center and infrastructure project activity.
Management raised its Construction revenue ****** umption for the year to up 5% to 10%, from flat to up 5% previously. Australia also improved, with revenue up 22.5% once currency effects are stripped out, and its full-year outlook was raised to up 15% to 20% on better moisture levels and farmer sentiment. Floorplan and other interest expense fell to $8.1 million from $11.5 million as interest-bearing inventory levels came down, another sign the cleanup is easing pressure on the business.
The offsetting weakness is just as clear. Consolidated revenue dropped across nearly every line, and Agriculture's same-store decline reflects continued pressure on grower profitability in North America. The bottom line moved the wrong way too, with Adjusted EBITDA slipping to $4.6 million from $5.6 million and operating expenses rising to 19.0% of revenue from 17.0%. Europe was the sharpest problem. Segment revenue fell to $66.1 million from $98.1 million, and once a $1.1 million currency benefit is excluded, revenue was down $33.1 million, or 33.7%. The wind-down of the company's German operations accounted for roughly $11 million of that decline, with the rest coming from softer demand after the boost Romania saw from European Union stimulus programs faded.

European PE add-ons are stuck at decade highs for the obvious reason—sponsors playing it safe—but increasingly also because a consolidated platform is what enhances the chance to exit.
According to PitchBook's Q2 2026 European PE Breakdown, there were 2,121 add-on deals in H1 2026, reaching a decade high of 57.7% of the total European PE deal count. It's the third straight quarter the strategy has held near record levels.
Richard Damming, head of PE investments Europe at Schroders Capital, spoke with PitchBook News about why a consolidated platform may help secure an exit in the subdued market and how to create value in times of low financial leverage.
This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment ******* umptions. Eagle remains a strong believer in AI but prefers constructing a portfolio that can perform across multiple outcomes rather than relying on one forecast. The firm believes current earnings can overstate underlying economics because semiconductor equipment is depreciated over several years, while free cash flow growth remains much weaker. It also expects competition and additional capacity across AI labs, hyperscalers, and semiconductors to eventually create winners and losers. These dynamics are encouraging Eagle to recycle capital toward attractive opportunities outside the most crowded AI trades while maintaining selective exposure to high quality beneficiaries. The portfolio trades at a 20% market discount with faster expected EPS growth. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for key selections.

Sands Capital, an investment management company, released its "Sands Capital Select Growth Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Select Growth Fund targets U.S. businesses driving significant structural change through disruptive innovation. The fund returned 23.2% in the quarter, outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth Index's 16.7% gain. U.S. large-cap growth equities rebounded sharply, driven by improving corporate fundamentals and renewed investor confidence in AI, despite geopolitical uncertainties. However, the market's gains were narrow, concentrated among AI beneficiaries. The portfolio's success stemmed from strength in AI infrastructure holdings, especially memory and storage, supported by better pricing and tightening supply. As AI development advances, continuous demand for compute capacity is expected, prompting investments in memory, CPUs, AI chips, and semiconductor manufacturing to address emerging bottlenecks essential for scaling AI. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Sands Capital Select Growth Fund highlighted Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU). Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) is a leading semiconductor company manufacturing memory and storage products. On September 02, 2026, Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) closed at $956.08 per share. Over the past month, Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) returned 8.46%, but its shares are up 669.73% over the past year. Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) has a market capitalization of $1.08 trillion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $118.52 to $1,255.00.
Sands Capital Select Growth Fund stated the following regarding Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) and SanDisk increased the portfolio's exposure to memory, which has become a critical bottleneck in the AI infrastructure stack. Agentic AI systems require greater context, faster retrieval, and more persistent memory, increasing demand for DRAM, high-bandwidth memory, and NAND. At the same time, advanced memory remains difficult, capital intensive, and time consuming to manufacture. The industry has also become more consolidated and disciplined, which should limit the speed of supply response. We believe this combination of accelerating demand and constrained supply can support stronger pricing, better margins, and a more durable earnings cycle for leading memory providers."

On August 5, Clover Health Investments Corp. (NASDAQ:CLOV) reported second-quarter 2026 results that turned a year-ago loss into real profit. GAAP net income came in at $28 million, a $39 million swing from the $10.6 million loss posted in the same quarter last year. Medicare Advantage membership climbed to 157,309, up 48% year over year, and the company raised its full-year guidance across every major line item. For a stock that has spent years chasing profitability, this quarter reads like a turning point.
The headline number is the $28 million in GAAP net income for the quarter, but the six-month picture tells the same story with more weight behind it: $55.3 million in net income through the first half of 2026, compared to an $11.9 million loss over the same stretch last year. Revenue reached $743.2 million in the quarter, up 55.6% year over year, and consolidated gross profit rose 53.6% to $153.0 million. Adjusted EBITDA more than doubled, jumping 139.2% to $40.9 million from $17.1 million a year earlier, which means profitability is scaling faster than revenue itself.
Clover backed those numbers by raising its 2026 outlook on every front. Full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance moved up to $70 million to $85 million from a prior range of $50 million to $70 million, and GAAP net income guidance rose to $20 million to $35 million from $0 million to $20 million. The company also closed the quarter with $443.0 million in cash and investments, up 13.8% year over year, giving it room to keep funding growth. CEO Andrew Toy pointed to the Clover ***** istant platform reaching more physicians and members as the engine behind "better health outcomes" alongside the growth, while Interim CFO Clay Thornton tied the improving cohort economics to the company retaining more of that value under its full-risk model heading into 2027.
The same filing shows that scaling a Medicare Advantage insurer is not cheap. Insurance net medical claims incurred rose 56.1% year over year to $615.4 million, tracking almost in step with revenue growth. The insurance benefits expense ratio, which measures how much of premium revenue goes toward paying medical claims, sat at 87.6% for the quarter, only 80 basis points better than a year ago, and the six-month figure improved by just 20 basis points. That means the cost of caring for members has barely budged as a share of revenue, even as the top line surged.
Spending on overhead grew too. Salaries, benefits, and general and administrative expenses rose 13.3% year over year to $124.4 million, while the adjusted version of that same cost line jumped 35.9% to $112.1 million. And even after the guidance raise, projected full-year GAAP net income of $20 million to $35 million is modest against total revenue guidance of $2.92 billion to $3.00 billion, a thin margin for a business still proving it can convert scale into durable profit.

Americold Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:COLD) completed a cold-storage joint venture with EQT's Active Core Infrastructure fund covering 12 U.S. temperature-controlled warehouses with more than $1.3 billion of gross ***** et value. EQT acquired 70% of Americold-EQT Cold Storage Partnership, while Americold Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:COLD) retained 30% and became the day-to-day manager.
Americold Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:COLD) received approximately $1.1 billion of net cash proceeds and intends to use the cash to repay outstanding consolidated debt. Based on rounded announced figures, the proceeds equal approximately 25% of the latest reported net debt of $4.4 billion. Americold Realty Trust, Inc. The structure remains more complicated than a simple ***** et sale. The joint venture drew $845.5 million under mortgage financing at closing. Americold Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:COLD) and EQT each appoint three members to the six-person board. Americold Realty Trust, Inc. Wall Street experts believe that AI adoption continues to create a cybersecurity spending cycle, with companies increasingly needing to secure AI agents, applications, and cloud workloads. CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWD) is benefiting from this trend, posting record net new ARR of $333 million in Q2 2027, up 51% year-over-year, and upgrading FY27 net new ARR growth guidance by 630 bps to 34%. Revenue also rose 26% to $1.47 billion, driven by elevated demand.
Scotiabank lifted its price objective on CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWD)'s stock to $250 from $227 on August 27, while maintaining a "Sector Outperform" rating. The firm sees broad-based enterprise demand and increased spending on AI security for CRWD. The firm also tagged the company as a medium-term compounder even though it commands a premium valuation.
Wall Street ***** ysts believe that the upside case for CRWD revolves around platform expansion and AI security. Falcon Flex ARR crossed $2.29 billion, implying a rise of 101% YoY. Notably, 51% of subscription customers are now using six or more modules. Moving forward, growth is expected to be backed by cross-selling, AI security adoption, and record FCF.
However, bears highlight valuation as the biggest risk. Since expectations for high growth remain elevated, this leaves room for multiple compression if ARR growth slows, module adoption disappoints, or competition intensifies. CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWD) trades at a forward P/E of ~172.4x, significantly higher than that of competitor Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW)'s forward P/E of ~87.7x.
CrowdStrike's strong ARR growth and expanding Falcon platform provide the company with a strong growth profile. On the other hand, Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) is benefiting from broader network-security exposure. Overall, CrowdStrike's strong presence across endpoint, cloud, identity, SIEM, and AI security cements its position as the consolidated cybersecurity platform.

On August 25, The Marzetti Company (NASDAQ:MZTI) closed out a fiscal year of records, even as reported quarterly sales slipped 2.2% to $465.0 million. The drop traces to the planned expiration of a temporary supply agreement rather than any softness in the core business, and once that noise is stripped out, adjusted sales actually grew. Behind the headline number sits a company generating more cash and profit than it ever has, just as a fresh food safety scare threatens to interrupt the streak.
Fiscal 2026 marked the fourth straight year of record net sales and gross profit and the third straight year of record operating income, with fourth-quarter gross profit alone reaching $114.0 million. Gross margin expanded 220 basis points to 24.5%, the twelfth consecutive quarter of improvement, as procurement, manufacturing and network changes kept squeezing out costs. Adjusted operating income rose 17.5% to $52.2 million. Growth is increasingly coming from newer names. Bachan's, the barbecue sauce brand acquired mid-year, added $15.4 million in sales in its first two months and contributed 320 basis points to consolidated growth. Scanner data showed Bachan's sales up 8.7% for the quarter with distribution points up 16.6%, and household penetration climbing from 5% to 6% since the deal closed.
Management is now extending the brand into mayo, a category it pegs at $3.4 billion in potential, and into a wing sauce made at its own Kentucky plant. Texas Roadhouse dinner rolls kept up an even faster pace, up 28.1% in the quarter and 76% for the year to $58 million, selling nearly twice as fast per distribution point as the category average. New York Bakery grew 2.8% and took 220 basis points of share to a leading 45.5%, while branded croutons picked up another 100 basis points. Record operating cash flow of $283.8 million helped fund $36.3 million in buybacks and a 63rd straight annual dividend increase.
That momentum is about to run into a real headwind. A Cyclospora outbreak is expected to cut fiscal first-quarter net sales by roughly 250 basis points in both the retail and foodservice segments, and management is modeling the recovery on a similar 2018 episode that took about four months to fade. CFO Tom Pigott was blunt about the near-term cost, saying the company does "not expect to be able to grow our margins" in the first quarter, and Marzetti is guiding to a roughly 15% decline in first-quarter operating income.

Coco Gauff returned to the scene of her grand slam breakthrough on a rain-lashed Tuesday night and safely cleared the first hurdle toward another, launching her pursuit of a second US Open ******* le in four years with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez beneath the closed roof of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 22-year-old American, seeded fourth in New York, arrived with momentum and expectation running particularly high, fresh off her first ******* le of the year in Cincinnati and having shown encouraging signs that the serve which has so often dictated the rest of her game is becoming a more reliable weapon. Now, three years after she first lifted the trophy here, both a third major championship and the world No 1 ranking are within her reach.
Gauff got off to a confident start before a buzzing crowd, crunching a pair of early aces in a love hold, but the 54th-ranked Sonmez held her own in the muscular baseline exchanges throughout the opening five games. Gauff took control in the sixth, breaking her opponent's serve without dropping a point, then steadied herself through an uneven service game to move to the brink of the set at 5-2. Sonmez held to prolong it, but Gauff calmly served it out after 33 minutes as the heavy rainfall pounding the roof overhead reverberated through Ashe like the inside of a bass drum.
The second set was less straightforward. Gauff broke immediately and appeared poised to pull away, but Sonmez responded by attacking the net and taking advantage of a sudden dip in the American's level, breaking back for 2-all with a searing backhand winner. Gauff then had to dig out of a marathon 16-point service game at 2-3, saving three break points before finally escaping with a 115mph ace down the middle to complete the hold for 3-all. "I knew if I could hold that game, I felt confident breaking the next game," Gauff said.
That proved prescient. Sonmez double-faulted twice in the next game to surrender the critical break, before Gauff consolidated for 5-3 and shortly after held at love to close the show after 1hr 20min.

Two telecommunications giants recently showcased the contrasting sides of the 5G and connectivity ecosystem. On August 6, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced it selected Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) (NASDAQ:ERIC) to supply 600 MHz dual-band radios to support the deployment of its newly acquired spectrum from EchoStar. The partnership reinforces AT&T's ongoing network modernization while keeping Ericsson deeply embedded in U.S. carrier infrastructure.
Shortly after, on August 10, AT&T demonstrated real-world execution by upgrading wireless connectivity at Mississippi State University's Davis Wade Stadium using a Distributed Antenna System powered by Airspan's MobileAccess 6000. While AT&T is actively converting network upgrades into sticky, high-margin subscriber growth, Ericsson faces the capital-intensive burden of hardware delivery.

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) is showing a stronger financial trajectory and cash-generation profile than its equipment vendor partner, Ericsson. In Q2 2026, AT&T's consolidated revenue increased 2.3% year over year to $31.6 billion, supported by a 5.1% increase in Advanced Connectivity service revenue. Adjusted EPS surged 20.4% to $0.65, beating the $0.59 consensus estimate, while adjusted EBITDA rose 5.2% to $12.3 billion, producing a strong 39.1% margin. Free cash flow reached $4.7 billion, enabling management to raise its full-year share buyback target to $10 billion while maintaining its forecast for more than $18 billion in full-year free cash flow.
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) (NASDAQ:ERIC), meanwhile, faced weaker operating momentum in Q2 2026, with net sales declining 6% year over year to SEK 52.7 billion, or approximately $5.0 billion, due to lower IPR licensing revenue and uneven carrier capital spending. Net income fell 12% to SEK 4.1 billion, or approximately $390 million, although adjusted gross margin remained resilient at 48.4%. Free cash flow before M&A, however, plunged from SEK 2.6 billion to just SEK 385 million, or approximately $36.7 million.

On August 20, Hovnanian Enterprises (NYSE:HOV) reported third-quarter results that told two different stories at once. Revenue fell to $705.7 million from $800.6 million a year earlier, and the company posted a net loss of $0.70 per diluted share. Yet backlog value rose 5.1% year over year to $881.9 million, and management pointed to record land efficiency and a widening margin trend as evidence the business is being rebuilt for a different market. The gap between the near-term numbers and the longer-term setup is where this story gets interesting.
Hovnanian's adjusted homebuilding gross margin climbed to 14.6% in the quarter, up from a first-quarter trough, and management guided to 15% to 16.5% in the fourth quarter as newer, more recently underwritten communities make up a larger share of deliveries. Those communities were priced with today's higher incentive environment already built in, rather than ***** umptions from years ago when incentives were lower. The company's land position backs up that shift: 87% of controlled lots are now optioned rather than owned, the highest share in company history, up from 46% a decade earlier, freeing up capital and letting Hovnanian walk away from deals that no longer pencil out.
Total liquidity stood at $379.8 million, well above the company's own target range of $170 million to $245 million, while quick move-in inventory dropped 19.3% year over year to 820 homes as production was matched to actual sales pace. Contracts per community came in at 9.4, which management says ranks third among peers reporting similar periods. Demand also firmed lately: website traffic in July 2026 hit its highest level for that month since 2019, and month-to-date contracts in August ran 3% ahead of last year. To capture more of that traffic, Hovnanian hired active adult lifestyle veteran Deborah Blake to sharpen its Four Seasons brand as it pushes further into move-up and active adult buyers.
The quarter's headline numbers were rougher than the backlog alone suggests. Revenue fell from $800.6 million to $705.7 million, and Hovnanian swung to an adjusted pretax loss of $2.3 million, driven largely by delayed deliveries at newer joint venture projects that pulled unconsolidated joint venture income below expectations. That shortfall also broke a long streak: it was the first time in 23 quarters that adjusted pretax income landed below the company's own guidance range. Consolidated domestic contracts slipped 4.6% year over year to 1,155 homes, which management attributed to political and financial volatility keeping potential buyers on the sidelines.

Logistics rivals FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) and United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) shared the spotlight on August 20, when the U.S. Transportation Command awarded both giants modified defense contracts worth an estimated $2.72 billion each under the Next Generation Delivery Service-2 program. Securing multi-year government cash flows through September 2030 provides a steady baseline for both carriers. However, underneath this shared win lies a stark divergence in operational performance and investor sentiment.
Comparing FedEx's fiscal Q4 2026 with UPS's Q2 2026 highlights two distinct corporate turnarounds.
FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) capped off its fiscal year with strong momentum. Q4 revenue surged 13% year-over-year to $25.0 billion, while adjusted EPS rose to $6.31, and management surpassed its $1 billion structural cost-savings target via its DRIVE program. With the spin-off of its Freight unit completed in June 2026, a leaner FedEx issued a confident calendar year 2026 outlook, projecting ~11% top-line growth and adjusted EPS of $16.90 to $18.10.
United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) showed its own signs of life in Q2 2026 following a sluggish start to the year. Consolidated revenue increased 7.6% year-over-year to $22.8 billion, beating Wall Street expectations. Adjusted EPS came in at $1.76 against GAAP EPS of $0.71 (impacted by $891 million in transformation and driver severance costs). Adjusted operating margins expanded 40 basis points to 9.2%, led by a 21% operating profit jump in the U.S. Domestic package. The turn was strong enough for UPS to raise its full-year guidance, now projecting revenue of ~$91.2 billion and adjusted EPS of ~$7.22.
While both companies beat quarterly expectations and raised forecasts, FDX is currently outperforming on growth speed and structural network integration (Network 2.0), whereas UPS carries higher margin leverage but faces heavier transformation friction.

The FDA approved Pasatru, whose generic name is garetosmab, of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) for adults with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. FOP is an ultra-rare genetic disorder in which bone forms inside muscles, tendons, and ligaments, progressively restricting movement. In a 56-week Phase 3 trial involving 63 adults, the approved 3-milligram-per-kilogram dose reduced the number of new abnormal bone lesions by 94% compared with placebo. The decision completed an unusual clinical recovery. Regeneron paused an earlier study in 2020 after five patients died during its open-label portion, when all participants were receiving active treatment. The published ****** ysis later considered a relationship to treatment unlikely, although causality could not be ruled out. For Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN), Pasatru is a regulatory and scientific victory whose earnings potential is constrained by an exceptionally small market.
The company's existing scale makes that limitation difficult to ignore. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) generated second-quarter revenue of $4.29 billion, up 17%, while company-defined non-GAAP diluted EPS reached $14.29. Global Dupixent sales, recorded by partner Sanofi, increased 38% to approximately $6 billion, and U.S. Eylea HD sales rose 52% to $596 million. Against those franchises, even a successful Pasatru launch would have limited influence on consolidated results.
The approval demonstrates that Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) can recover a program after a major clinical setback. Following the 2020 dosing pause, the company worked with regulators to design a late-stage study that produced a statistically significant reduction in new bone lesions. Pasatru also validates research into Activin A, which activates the mutant ACVR1/ALK2 receptor and triggers abnormal bone formation in FOP.
That platform value may matter more than initial sales. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) plans to begin a pediatric trial later in 2026, which could eventually expand the eligible population. The regulatory recovery may also strengthen confidence in the company's ability to advance other rare-disease programs from internally discovered biology.
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) is entering an exceptionally small pharmaceutical market. Published prevalence estimates generally range from approximately one case per one million to one per two million people. Only approximately 800 to 900 known or confirmed cases have been identified globally, although additional patients may remain undiagnosed. Pasatru is currently approved only for adults, further narrowing its immediate market.

Who's got the best high school football in the country? Texas, Florida and California have each long laid stake to that claim, but it's rare that we see good teams from those states play each other. But that's what's happening at Chaparral Stadium in Friday's much anticipated 2026 season opener between the Westlake Chaparrals and the Inglewood (Calif.) Sentinels.
Westlake is one of Texas' top programs. Inglewood is packed with FBS talent, including two defensive linemen committed to Texas A&M and Oklahoma and a defensive back who'll play at Cal. And Chaps quarterback Patton Jones is making his first start against a defense that had seven sacks in Inglewood's season opener last week.
Anderson receiver Kyler Sharp (15) makes a catch over Johnson defensive back Zavier Antoine (31) during the game at Hays High School on Thursday, August. 27, 2026 in Kyle, Texas. (Aaron E. Martinez/Austin American-Statesman)
But that's not the only big game of note tonight. While the big Lake Travis vs. Dripping Springs opener was canceled, there are still a couple of high-profile matchups that we're watching, including Weiss at Round Rock, a matchup of two of the American-Statesman's top 10 preseason power poll teams; Cedar Park and A&M Consolidated as the Timberwolves make their Class 6A debut; and Vandegrift at San Antonio Brennan, a matchup of two teams expected to win their Class 6A districts.
We're at three games tonight. Colby Gordon is covering the Weiss-Round Rock game at Dragon Stadium, Caleb Yum is at Westlake vs. Inglewood, watching all those college prospects at Chaparral Stadium, and Cory Mull is at Wrangler Stadium in Liberty Hill, where he's watching the Legacy Ranch Wranglers - Central Texas' newest high school - play their first varsity game ever at home against Manor New Tech.

On August 19, The TJX Companies (NYSE:TJX) reported second-quarter results that beat its own plan, even though its largest division could not keep pace with the rest of the business. Consolidated comparable sales rose 4%, adjusted earnings per share climbed 11% to $1.22, and management raised its full-year profit outlook. The catch is that Marmaxx, the TJ Maxx and Marshalls business that generates the bulk of TJX's revenue, grew comparable sales just 1%. Everything else in the portfolio ran hot enough to cover for it.
HomeGoods was the standout, with comparable sales jumping 7% on a higher average basket and more shoppers walking through the door at both the HomeGoods and Homesense banners. Segment profit margin there widened 240 basis points to 12.4%, helped by top-line growth and lower tariff costs. Management pointed to a year-round gifting push at HomeGoods as a way to keep the home category relevant between major holidays. TJX Canada and TJX International were just as strong, posting comparable sales growth of 6% and 7%. International margin expanded 210 basis points to 7.3% on a constant currency basis, and executives described customer response to the company's second TK Maxx store in Spain in glowing terms.
Behind all of it sits a sourcing network of roughly 21,000 vendors that management says keeps merchandise flowing faster than the company can buy it. That confidence showed up in TJX's growth plans: the company lifted its long-term store target by 500 locations to 7,500 and said it will accelerate new store openings to a 4% pace starting next year. Shareholders also got $1.3 billion back in the quarter, split between $798 million in buybacks and $529 million in dividends.
Marmaxx is where the story gets complicated. Comparable sales rose just 1%, entirely from a bigger average basket, while the number of transactions actually slipped. CEO Ernie Herrman was direct about the cause, saying the company "could have executed our store mix better" by not always having the right goods in the right stores at the right time. Segment profit margin held flat at 14.2%, and adjusted SG&A crept up 20 basis points companywide on higher store wage and payroll costs.
Management expects added pressure into the third quarter, pointing to higher fuel rates in the back half that are set to weigh on gross margin. Freight costs carry their own separate strain too, tied to a shrinking pool of new truck drivers entering the industry. Third quarter earnings guidance reflects some of that caution, with adjusted EPS projected at just $1.30 to $1.32, only 2% to 3% growth versus a year earlier. Inventory also grew faster than the store base, up 7% year over year heading into the fall and holiday season, meaning the company is betting heavily that Marmaxx's self-inflicted problems get fixed before that merchandise needs to move.

Opening arguments began in a California-led trial against Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META), brought by a coalition of 29 state attorneys general alleging the company designed Facebook and Instagram to be addictive to children and teens. New Mexico's attorney general warned the consequences for Meta could be "astronomical."
Meta already lost a case in New Mexico that will cost it nearly $1 billion, but California's case, backed by far more states and a much larger population, could be dramatically more expensive.
That raises the real question: is Wall Street underpricing the real financial risk of this trial, or is the New Mexico result already the worst case investors need to worry about?
As of August 17, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META)'s stock is down only 12.52% this year. Even though the mounting legal pressure and most ******* ysts' concern so far have focused on Meta's AI infrastructure spending, which could reach $145 billion this year, rather than fears about the ad business itself. Meta has said the state coalition's "limited claims are unsubstantiated and their financial demands are vastly disproportionate." The New Mexico judge already ruled some of the plaintiffs' broader design-change requests would be unfair since rivals like TikTok and YouTube would keep the same features.
New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez, fresh off winning nearly $1 billion from Meta in his state alone, warned "you could wake up with a headline judgment that is...astronomical," and said mapping that result onto a state as large as California could be "a potentially massive and market-shifting force." Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META)'s own attorneys have said the consolidated case could lead to damages as high as $1.4 trillion. The states' own lawyers estimate a more likely $200 billion. Meta gets 98% of its revenue from online advertising, an extraordinarily concentrated exposure to whatever penalties this case produces. UCLA's Julia Powles said, "California matters more than any other jurisdiction in the U.S."

UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) recently announced a major expansion of its child and family behavioral coaching program, extending access to 13 million commercial members. First launched in 2023, the program targets low-severity needs like mild anxiety, ADHD, and sleep issues through virtual sessions and 24/7 support. The move adds 5 million individuals at no cost to employers, reflecting a broader effort to catch mental health concerns early before they escalate into high-cost medical claims.
This expansion highlights an essential question: Is UnitedHealth's shift toward early clinical intervention and margin management enough to offset persistent cost inflation and Medicare Advantage headwinds?
UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) delivered a strong Q2 2026 performance, beating expectations on both revenue and earnings as cost refinement and operational discipline supported profitability. Consolidated revenue reached $112.03 billion, exceeding the $110.85 billion ******* yst consensus, while adjusted EPS surged to $6.38, comfortably above the $4.90 estimate and up from $4.08 in the prior-year period. Net income totaled $5.48 billion, or $6.04 per share.
The company's medical benefit ratio (MCR) also improved significantly to 86.7% from 89.4% in Q2 2025, beating the 88.5% Wall Street estimate and indicating stronger premium capture relative to medical costs. Management also raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $19.50–$20.00 from more than $18.25 while maintaining its revenue target above $439 billion.
Bulls highlight UnitedHealth's powerful multi-segment scale across insurance and Optum services. The deployment of $1.5 billion into artificial intelligence is already streamlining prior authorizations and mitigating fraud, waste, and abuse. Furthermore, Optum's reach into care delivery and pharmacy services diversifies revenue beyond traditional underwriting. Robust cash generation continues to support shareholder return, reinforced by expanded full-year profit targets.

Venture Global, Inc. (NYSE:VG) shares are drawing heightened attention following the release of its second-quarter 2026 financial results. The company delivered substantial growth across key operational and financial metrics, prompting management to raise its full-year 2026 Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA guidance to $8.7 billion–$9.1 billion (up from $8.2 billion–$8.5 billion). Driven by accelerating production from its Plaquemines LNG facility, Venture Global exported 127 cargoes and sold 466.4 TBtu during the quarter, a 42% surge in volume year-over-year.
For Q2 2026, Venture Global, Inc. (NYSE:VG) reported total revenue of $4.6 billion, up 48% from $3.10 billion in Q2 2025. Operating income soared 111% year-over-year to $2.2 billion, while net income attributable to common stockholders surged 266% to $1.3 billion ($0.51 diluted EPS vs. $0.14 a year ago). Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA reached $2.5 billion, marking a 79% jump compared to $1.39 billion in the prior-year period. Stronger implied liquefaction fees under commissioning sales agreements and tight cost controls allowed operating margins to expand to 47.8%. Additionally, the board declared a $0.04 per share cash dividend for Q3.
On August 12, Wells Fargo raised its price target on Venture Global, Inc. (NYSE:VG) to $15 from $14 while maintaining an Equal Weight rating. The firm noted Q2 was essentially in line with expectations, highlighting the company's raised 2026 guidance above consensus on higher market spreads. Wells cited higher underlying EBITDA estimates and a significant increase in Venture Global's dividend per share as key supporting drivers.
This brings up a core question: Does the guidance hike and operational expansion signal a lasting multi-year earnings transformation, or are investors exposed to project execution and leverage risks?
Proponents point to Venture Global, Inc. (NYSE:VG)'s strong profitability, expanding scale, and long-term contracted position. Rapid volume growth, evidenced by passing its 1,000th total exported cargo, proves operational capability, while 91% contracted cargo coverage for 2026 offers high cash flow visibility. Furthermore, management's recent refinancing efforts extend maturities and lower debt-service costs, offering a stable financial foundation to fund project build-outs like CP2 and maintain shareholder returns.

Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) has agreed to pay $670 million to settle claims involving about 2,000 people who alleged that its specialized preterm infant formulas contributed to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a serious and potentially fatal bowel disease affecting premature infants. The settlement also resolves Abbott's appeal of a $495 million verdict involving an Illinois mother, after that judgment was upheld by a Missouri appeals court. Abbott did not admit liability and continues to maintain that its products are safe.
The bigger issue for investors is that the settlement does not fully end the litigation. Abbott says claims from as many as 12,700 people remain, although that figure includes duplicate and unsupported claims as well as cases where it is unclear which manufacturer's formula was used. More than 825 federal cases are consolidated in Chicago, with additional cases pending in state courts.
That makes the settlement both a cost and a potential step toward reducing uncertainty around the litigation.
The strongest argument for Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) is that the $670 million settlement could put a meaningful portion of the legal risk behind the company. Rather than continuing to spend years fighting individual cases and risking additional large jury awards, Abbott has chosen to settle with a sizable group of plaintiffs. The company said the agreement is intended to substantially resolve the broader litigation.
There is also an important distinction between the products involved in the lawsuits and Abbott's broader nutrition business. The litigation concerns specialized formulas and products used for premature infants in hospitals, rather than the ordinary infant formulas sold through stores. That limits the direct exposure of Abbott's wider consumer nutrition portfolio.

Sustainable Growth Advisers (SGA), an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for its "Global Growth Strategy." The letter can be downloaded here. The SGA Global Growth Portfolio returned 7.4% gross and 7.2% net, compared with 14.9% for the MSCI ACWI and 19.8% for the MSCI ACWI Growth Index. Momentum leadership and enthusiasm around AI infrastructure drove markets, with semiconductor, memory, and hardware stocks accounting for much of the gain. Although the portfolio owned AI beneficiaries, broader holdings lagged despite fundamentals, as median revenue and EPS growth reached 12% and 14% and more than 60% of the holdings beat expectations. SGA believes valuation compression reflects sentiment rather than weaker business quality, leaving the portfolio near its widest discount to the market since inception. The firm continues to favor durable compounders and expects 16% revenue growth and 20% earnings growth over three years. SGA Global Growth Strategy stated the following regarding Linde plc (NASDAQ:LIN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Linde plc (NASDAQ:LIN), the world's largest industrial gas company, was added to the portfolio in April. We had previously exited the position in 2024 due to valuation considerations and forced attrition; since then, the stock price has consolidated while fundamentals continued to progress. Linde remains an attractive long-term investment, supported by a highly durable business model and meaningful structural advantages. A large share of revenue is generated from long-term, recurring customer contracts in essential end markets, providing strong pricing power and cash flow visibility even in a slower growth environment. The company's strengths are rooted in its production efficiency and broad exposure across diverse end markets, including healthcare, manufacturing, electronics, chemicals, and energy.
Looking ahead, Linde is well-positioned to benefit from structural improvements and a potential acceleration in global growth across several of its core markets over the medium term. The U.S., which accounts for roughly 45% of revenue, is likely to see improved growth driven by an industrial recovery, increased semiconductor manufacturing, and higher refinery utilization. Europe (approximately 25% of revenue) has been a headwind in recent years due to negative volume growth, but is expected to stabilize over the medium term, with the potential for mo

As I detailed earlier this month, Nu is facing increased competition, but its competitive advantages continue to give it a durable edge. In recent years, competing banks have acquired more customers, but at the expense of declining credit quality and rising deposit costs. Meanwhile, Nu has been able to maintain high revenue and customer growth without sacrificing borrower quality or net interest margins.
This quarter, the company posted a consolidated cost of deposits of 88% the interbank rate, three percentage points lower than a year ago. Its efficiency ratio (a measure of how well the bank is managing operating costs) and ***** et quality metrics also improved.
