Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has always kept his contract situation top of mind ever since coming into the league. From 2023 when he was the subject of trade talks to the summer of 2025 when he discussed possibly doing a new deal after he signed his four-year extension during the spring of 2024, Johnson has never wavered when talking about his future in the league. Now prior to the 2026 season, Johnson eyes a new payday and understands this could be his last season in Chicago.
On Saturday, Johnson met with the media and was asked about 2026 being a pivotal season with the explosion in deals for cornerbacks in recent years. Johnson didn't hesitate with his answer. "It's definitely a contract year," he said. "We all know with the cap hit and all that stuff. It's definitely a contract year for me, so at the end of the day, whether that's here or somewhere else, I've got to put it on tape that I am still a top guy in this league."
Johnson is set to make $24 million in 2026, which is the second-highest total among cornerbacks for this upcoming season, trailing only Marlon Humphrey of the Baltimore Ravens. But as Johnson alluded to, he has no remaining guaranteed money after this season and can be cut next offseason to save $16 million. If 2026 is a repeat of what happened in 2025, then that decision will be easy for the Bears.
Last year, Johnson dealt with groin injuries that caused him to miss two months of games. When he returned to action in late November, Johnson was a shell of himself and played through pain to help the Bears capture the NFC North and return to the postseason for the first time since his rookie year. Now that he's fully healthy, though, Johnson is eyeing a third big contract.
"I'm not a dummy. I structured my deal a certain way to put myself back at the table at the age of 27," Johnson said. "For me, it was always for this point to get here and then show out and do what I do and be healthy and be out there doing what I do best. That's covering, that's making plays, and being a difference maker. And then from there, wherever that contract talk goes, it goes."

The Vikings' defense has enjoyed the presence of Harrison Smith ever since he was drafted back in 2012. The team enjoys his presence on and off the field, but at 37, some things are just not the same as they used to be. As a result, the unsigned veteran is sitting on the side waiting for something to change or to retire.
Despite the age factor and being unsigned, it isn't lessening the blow of his absence in training camp. Especially for Brian Flores, who is missing his defensive leader.
This week at the start of training camp, he discussed Smith's absence, saying, "I think collectively there's a sense of trying to, you know, bring what he brought to the table from a communication, leadership standpoint. You know, with him being absent or not absent, but not being here. I still haven't gotten over it..."
It still seems very possible that Smith could return after training camp wraps up, or is close enough to being wrapped up. We have seen veterans do this before, but there has been no smoke at all with Harrison Smith, so many people flying blind in this scenario.
Plenty of time left, but for now, Vikings fans will have to keep sitting on pins and needles.

Reddit, Inc. (NYSE:RDDT) may be willing to walk away from roughly $60 million a year to stop Google from turning its discussions into answers that users never leave Google to read. The companies are negotiating a renewal of their 2024 data-licensing agreement, and Reddit has discussed ending Google's access to its content for AI use, the Wall Street Journal reported on July 22. Reddit, Inc. (NYSE:RDDT) fell 8.7% after the report, its worst session since March, according to Barron's.
Google can find generic product descriptions and technical explanations all over the web. Reddit is useful because its users argue about whether a product is actually good, describe unusual problems and update old advice. Those conversations answer queries for which polished corporate pages are nearly useless. Reddit can reasonably demand more money or limits on how that material appears in Google's AI products.

Walking away would carry a cost beyond the licensing check. Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), through Google Search, also sends people to Reddit, where their visits can be turned into advertising revenue. If an AI answer already quotes the useful part of a discussion, however, that referral relationship becomes less valuable. Reddit is effectively being asked to keep supplying an input that may reduce the traffic Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) sends back.
The $60 million payment is not large enough to make the decision on its own. Reddit generated $663 million of revenue in the first quarter, of which $625 million came from advertising and $39 million from other sources, including data licensing. Google would lose a frequently updated source of human answers. Reddit would find out how many users seek it out and how many arrive only because Google placed a link in front of them.

Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is reportedly the previously unnamed customer behind Hut 8 Corp.'s (NASDAQ:HUT) Beacon Point data center leases in Texas. The Financial Times identified Nvidia as the tenant on July 28, citing five people familiar with the arrangement. Nvidia discussed its work with infrastructure partners but neither confirmed nor denied that it was the customer. Hut 8 has also not publicly named the tenant.
That attribution is important, but the contract math also needs equal attention. Hut 8 disclosed on July 20 that a second 15-year lease for 352 megawatts of IT capacity doubled the same investment-grade tenant's footprint to 704 MW. The two leases give the campus a $19.6 billion base-term contract value. The often-quoted $50.2 billion figure applies only if renewal options are exercised, so it is neither guaranteed revenue nor the present value of a firm $50 billion obligation.
If the FT's reporting is correct, Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is not relevant merely because Beacon Point will use AI chips. As the reported lease counterparty, it would support rent on 704 MW of Hut 8 capacity and could turn that capacity into a deployment channel for customers buying Nvidia systems. The FT said Nvidia could sublease the site to neocloud partners that buy its GPUs and sell AI computing services. No sublease has been announced. Nvidia's public response instead emphasized DSX, its architecture for designing, building and operating large AI factories with ecosystem partners.
Hut 8's link is contractual. Tenant rent underpins the $19.6 billion base-term value and the credit case for the project, while Hut 8 Corp. (NASDAQ:HUT) must supply the energized buildings on schedule. The company closed $4.25 billion of non-recourse, investment-grade senior secured notes for Beacon Point in June and expects the first Phase 2 data hall in the second quarter of 2028. It must still manage construction, tenant concentration, and the financing demands of a 1-gigawatt development.
Insider Monkey's database showed a small decline in hedge funds backing the stock. As of the end of the first quarter of 2026, 60 hedge-fund portfolios reported long positions in HUT at March 31, 2026, down from 64 at December 31, 2025.

It did not take long on the C.H. Robinson second quarter earnings call with ***** ysts late Wednesday for the subject to switch away from a strong financial performance in the quarter to the fallout from its more than $600 million nuclear verdict handed down in a Texas courtroom last week.
While there might have been some speculation that CEO Dave Bozeman and other members of the management team might have cited "ongoing litigation" as a reason to not discuss the Dallas County case of Lipe vs. Lupus Superior, with C.H. Robinson also as a defendant, Bozeman addressed it in his opening remarks, and numerous questions from ***** ysts were all answered with the same reply: our behavior was proper and we're confident this verdict will not stand.
That message on Lipe vs. Lupus Superior ultimately became likely the most-discussed topic of the phone call, though Michael Castagnetto, the president of North American Surface Transportation, was able to make his core point at least twice about the company's core brokerage operations: it has now been 13 quarters where volume growth at C.H. The Mets and White Sox reportedly discussed a trade that would send Freddy Peralta to the South Side of Chicago. Michael Marino reports that White Sox prospects George Wolkow and Boston Smith were among the players discussed in the return. Marino also stated that the talks have stalled a bit, and the Mets are in discussions with other clubs as well.

Peralta is the owner of a 4.99 ERA and a 83 ERA+ over 113.2 innings. He's at the highest walk rate and lowest strikout rate since he's been a starter full time, but also has the highest BABIP against of his career, so luck may be a piece of his poor performance.
The two prospects mentioned in the report are both consensus top 2o prospects for the White Sox, with Woklov as the 15th best in their system by our sister site South Side Sox in their pre-season rankings. Rob Key, the ECB's managing director of men's cricket, believes it was "too soon" to install Harry Brook as England Test captain after overlooking the Yorkshireman in favour of Joe Root.
Root's return as full-time skipper was confirmed on Thursday alongside the appointment of Stephen Fleming as England's new head coach following the retirement of Ben Stokes and departure of Brendon McCullum.
Brook, who leads England in white-ball cricket, was elevated to the vice-captaincy ahead of last year's Ashes and has since served as Stokes' deputy.
He was not promoted, though, when Stokes missed the second Test against New Zealand earlier in the summer, and has again missed out on the role despite expressing an interest.
Key explained that he and Fleming had discussed the captaincy at length before the new coach's appointment, with the pair agreeing that Root – who has already led England in a record 65 Tests – was the right man for the job at this moment.

Liverpool have won two pre-season games, 1-0 against Wrexham and 4-2 against Sunderland, but the more important development may be cultural rather than cosmetic. Dominik Szoboszlai has said plainly what many around Anfield wanted to hear, that intensity is back under Andoni Iraola.
The Hungarian midfielder did not dress it up. Speaking during Liverpool's tour of the United States, he said: "He is very good. The intensity we need is here now, what we have been missing is back. From the coach side and the players, now we have to put this together."
That is a significant line. It tells you what Iraola has prioritised from day one, and it also tells you what the squad felt had slipped. Liverpool have had enough neat possession, enough sterile control and enough softness over the past year. The issue was never effort in the abstract. It was tempo, aggression, second **** , pressure and the ability to make opponents uncomfortable.
Iraola has been appointed to fix a side that drifted badly in 2025/26. The **** le-winning success of 2024/25 under Arne Slot stands on its own, but football does not hand out credit for sentiment. Last season was poor, the drop-off was obvious and Liverpool needed a reset. Iraola's first task was always going to be restoring the physical and mental edge that defined this club at its best.
So far, the messaging is direct and the signs are positive. Pre-season scorelines matter less than habits, and the habits being discussed are the right ones. Hugo Larsson sees no reason to leave Eintracht Frankfurt this summer. The Swedish midfielder was previously very close to leaving the club for the Saudi Pro League, but he has now ruled out any possibility for this summer.

Sky Germany reports that FC Augsburg attacker Mert Kömür is open to moving to England amid increasing interest from Hull City. Hull's pursuit of the 21-year-old Germany U21 international first emerged earlier this week. The Premier League club have now reportedly opened discussions with Kömür, his family, and his representatives over a potential summer transfer out of the Bundesliga.
Augsburg have been informed of the talks and are fundamentally willing to sanction Kömür's departure. A transfer fee of approximately €20 million is presently being discussed, though Hull have not yet opened formal negotiations with the Bundesliga club.
Kömür remains under contract through 2029 after receiving a new long-term Augsburg deal last summer. The Dachau native registered two goals and five ***** ists in 28 Bundesliga appearances last season, starting 18 league fixtures. NBC Sports Philadelphia is budgeting to add a courtside voice to its Sixers broadcasts ahead of LeBron James's arrival this season, network vice president of content Alexandra Matcham told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"I think you need a voice on the court where Alaa [Abdelnaby] and Kate [Scott] can't be to give us insight, do pre- and postgame interviews, **** ysis, all of that," Matcham said. "It's a very hard job to do."
For years, NBC Sports Philadelphia and its predecessor, Comcast SportsNet, used reporters like Serena Winters and Taryn Hatcher to fill that kind of role for the Sixers. That stopped in 2020, when the network began eliminating in-arena and in-game reporting jobs across its properties as basketball and hockey seasons wrapped that year, according to Crossing Broad's Kevin Kinkead. Hatcher stayed on covering the Phillies for five more seasons after that before her contract lapsed at the end of 2025 and NBC Sports Philadelphia cut the position rather than renew it. Kinkead later reported that the network and Hatcher had discussed a freelance arrangement that would have let her take on other work at the same time, but the talks ended without an agreement over what Kinkead's sources described as a standard contract disagreement, not any real conflict between the two sides.
That left NBC Sports Philadelphia without anyone in that role for the entirety of the Sixers' 2025-26 season, and the roster now taking shape gives the network far less room to go another year without one.
"If you get a generational talent on your team, it could easily become a situation where the people that work for us are burnt out by December, and you don't want that," Matcham said. "You need extra help."

The Miami Dolphins are two days into training camp, and following Thursday's practice, the team's longest-tenured wide receiver, Malik Washington, spoke with South Florida reporters. Although entering just his third NFL season, Washington has been the most senior receiver for the Dolphins in snaps on Miami and time with the team.
This is among a group of receivers that includes a seldom-used 2024 draft classmate of Washington's, two 2025 undrafted free agents, four rookies (three drafted and a UDFA) and several veteran free agent fliers.
Washington doubles as a return man and has shown sparks of being a multifaceted weapon in his two seasons. He has made 72 receptions for 540 yards, with three receiving touchdowns, along with 110 yards on seven rushing attempts with two ground scores. He also has returned 38 punts for 394 yards, which includes a Week 2 touchdown from last season against the New England Patriots. He is also the Dolphins' all-time leader in average yards per kick-off return (among those with 50 attempts) with 27.9.
On Thursday, he fielded questions from the media and discussed new quarterback Malik Willis, a summer practice season up in Jacksonville, as well as the elimination of 7-on-7 drills under the new coaching of Jeff Hafley.
When asked about Willis and the chemistry they developed over the summer, Washington said, "I think it's huge for him just to ask some of the guys to come out there and be with him, and we get some of that time to bond. Whether we're on the field or not, we're getting a chance to just get to know each other a little bit better, get to know each other's families and learn about each other."

Real Housewives of Orange County alum Jeana Keough is nearing the end of her tongue cancer treatment, but she's making clear the fight is far from over.
According to a report Page Six published Thursday, July 30, Keough, 70, discussed her prognosis via email, writing, "It's upsetting to know that even after all this treatment, I still only have a 40 to 60 percent cure rate within the next five years. We're just praying that I'm on the good side of that coin flip."
She continued, "I can see the finish line now, but I'm hearing it's a long climb to recovery and that I'll likely have the feeding tube for two to six months."

Keough also revealed that her diagnosis was delayed after what she described as a misdiagnosis by her longtime dentist. She stated that she initially sought treatment for a sore on her tongue, but her dentist believed one of her teeth was rubbing against it and repeatedly filed the tooth down over several visits rather than referring her to a specialist or recommending a biopsy.

European governing body UEFA will hold an emergency meeting later on Thursday to deal with plans from FIFA to bring private investors into its events led by the World Cup.
Sources told dpa that the meeting also reported by other media is scheduled for the afternoon.
UEFA has condemned the plans which FIFA president Gianni Infantino defended late Wednesday and which have drawn mixed reactions from other confederations.
Germany's Bild paper said leading officials including German Football Federation (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf discussed the FIFA plans via a UEFA video call on Wednesday.
"We must not lose the fans' support, but we are well on the way to squandering that support. I consider this to be extremely problematic and unacceptable," Neuendorf told broadcasters ZDF.

This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired 8-time Pro Bowl defensive back Patrick Peterson.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Peterson, who participated in this year's American Century Championship, held at Edgewood Tahoe and aired on NBC and Peacock, discussed Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love's chances of excelling in his rookie season ahead of the Week 11 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I like the pick because they have a receiver; there wasn't a quarterback there that they felt they could get them over the hump right now. Jacoby Brissett was a salvageable quarterback due to the absence of Kyler Murray; they had pretty much everything they wanted on the offensive side of the ball," said Peterson. "Still, they felt like they were missing that home run hitter, that other piece, and that was Jeremiyah Love. I love the pick. My only thing would be, how much are they going to put on his plate?"
The Chiefs will host the Cardinals in Week 11 this season and get an opposing look at Love, the third overall draft pick out of Notre Dame. In 2025, Love rushed 199 times for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He also tallied 27 receptions for 280 yards and three receiving touchdowns, earning finalist status for the Heisman Trophy.
"I know Coach Mike LaFleur is coming from the (Los Angeles) Rams, they have a lot of nuances in their offense to get their playmakers involved in the ball game, but you also gotta think about the Arizona Cardinals, were the fifth pick for a reason, they have a lot of holes in that team, offensive linemen, protecting the quarterback and being able to open lanes for him, you have a quarterback issue," said Peterson, "If your quarterback is not good enough to be able to loosen up defenses, how you expect a rookie running back to be explosive, he definitely has a lot of ups and downs, a lot of challenges that he's facing right now, but he is a home run here; he's a great player, and I'm not upset at all with the pick. Now, Arizona is going to have to do a great job of putting the pieces around him so that he can be successful."

It's trade deadline season, and though this has been a tame deadline period so far, the continuous swirl of rumors and (eventually) actual transactions will be the focus of much of the baseball world in the coming days. Yesterday, we discussed which players the Yankees were most likely to move, and today, we ask: what weakness do the Yankees most need to address, and which one are they most likely to address?
The answer to this question has been fluid throughout the year. Early on, it seemed obvious to most that the Yankees would need to make big additions to their bullpen, yet here we are at the end of July, and the Yankee relief corps has the second-best ERA in the majors. Paul Blackburn has proven to be the second coming of Luke Weaver, Brent Headrick almost never allows runs, David Bednar has been the top-tier closer the team envisioned, and Matt Blake's latest reclamation project, Angel Chivilli, has looked dynamite since his most recent call-up. Add in the fact that players like Will Warren and Ryan Weathers (and perhaps Carlos Lagrange?) could get shifted to the bullpen if they're not traded, and the unit looks like an area of strength, not weakness.
At other times, the matter of the infield appeared to be most pressing. Ryan McMahon and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each got off to nightmarish starts, and the shortstop duo of Anthony Volpe and José Caballero has had its ups and downs. But even on the dirt, things don't look nearly as shaky as they did two or three months ago. Since seeing his OPS bottom out at .498 on April 22nd, Chisholm has played exactly as expected, with a .239/.309/.463 slash line and 16 homers plus 21 steals. McMahon has run a roughly .750 OPS over the last two months while bringing his usual quality defense at third base. And despite his penchant for high-profile miscues, Volpe's combination of high-OBP and good range at short has made him a valuable contributor.
Then, there's the most obvious need now, at catcher, with Yankee backstops having combined to "hit" .181/.261/.284. But even adding a catcher comes with major complications, as most teams are loath to make significant changes to their caching room midseason. For as awful as Austin Wells and Co. have been with the bat this year, a catcher's primary job is to catch, to field his position, to manage his pitching staff. The Yankee backstops have done that portion of their job with aplomb this year (it's probably not a coincidence that the Yankees prioritize defense at catcher and have the best team ERA in baseball), and it's not trivial to just add a plus bat to that room without shaking things up on the run-prevention front.
Add it all up, and it leaves the Yankee roster in a weird spot heading into a crucial deadline. The roster has been slammed by injuries and has some seemingly clear places to upgrade, but actually making those upgrades is less straightforward than it might appear. What do you think? Hilaria Baldwin revealed she started dieting when she was only 5 years old − a scenario that may seem shocking, but that experts say is all too common.
In an interview with SiriusXM's Page Six Radio on July 28, the mom of seven, 42, discussed her journey with decades of disordered eating, including dieting at a young age.
"I did all of it. I did anorexia, I did bulimia, I did overeating, I did undereating," Baldwin said, noting at one extreme she was even "afraid of how many calories might be in toothpaste."
Eating disorders can start earlier than many expect, according to the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition.
"Every year, about 14 million people worldwide experience an eating disorder, 3 million of whom are children and adolescents," the center notes on its website.
