As a Californian, I can say this: If there are two industries that residents of the Golden State really don't like, it's insurance providers and utilities.
Interestingly, with the state considering wildfire reform legislation, those industries are at odds with one another. That's material for investors considering stocks such as PG&E (NYSE: PCG). The company known to California customers as Pacific Gas & Electric is one of the four major investor-owned utilities in the state, and due to the state having some of the highest utility rates in the U.S., PG&E and friends don't have a lot of fans in the state.

While it's extremely difficult to predict a stock market pullback, there are certainly harbingers that the market could be in for a rough ride over the coming month. The September-October period ahead of U.S. mid-term elections is historically a volatile one. In fact, Cantor Fitzgerald notes that the S&P 500 index has fallen by 5% or more during these two months in 15 of the past 24 midterm election cycles.
At the same time, two major market valuation indicators point to stocks being at extremely frothy valuations. The S&P 500 Shiller CAPE (cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings) ratio is at over 40 times for the first time since before the dot.com market crash. The so-called Buffett indicator (U.S. stock market value divided by gross domestic product), named after Warren Buffett, is over 230%, well above the 120% where the market is considered overvalued. Throw in a war and a stressed consumer, and the ingredients for a market pullback are there.

WASHINGTON, Sept 17 (Reuters) - A federal judge ordered President Donald Trump's administration on Thursday to provide at least 30 days' notice before taking any steps to demolish the Kennedy Center, the landmark performing arts venue that has become a flashpoint in his efforts to reshape the U.S. capital.
U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper issued the order after lawyers for a Democratic congresswoman who is suing to keep the venue open and Trump's name off its facade submitted new evidence citing the Republican president's comments on Wednesday referring to demolishing the Kennedy Center.
"I think that the Trump administration should certainly have recognition. Because frankly, if we don't do that, it's going to close. It'll end up being ripped down," Trump told reporters in North Carolina, referring to putting his name on the facility established by Congress and opened in 1971 as a memorial to slain President John Kennedy.

The Nasdaq 100 initially pulled back a bit during the early part of the trading session on Tuesday, but showed signs of life and looks very much like a market that is stuck in a range at the moment. This makes a certain amount of sense because we do get the Federal Reserve interest rate decision on Wednesday, but more importantly, we get the press conference.
A hike of 25 basis points is expected. That, in and of itself, probably will not move much. It is the tone of the press conference that will be the real tell.
The Dow Jones 30 initially fell but seems to be finding support at 52,000 again, an area that has previously been both support and resistance. Above, it looks like the 50-day EMA is trying to act as resistance. We are approaching an oversold condition on the stochastic oscillator, but with the 10-year yield at 5%, it makes a certain amount of sense that we struggle a bit.
The S&P 500 continues to hang around the 7,600 level. This is an area that previously had been significant resistance. It now looks as if it is trying to offer support yet again. The 50-day EMA is in this neighborhood, and the market almost certainly will be waiting to see what Kevin Warsh has to say tomorrow.
With that being the case, things look somewhat neutral here. Longer term, I am still bullish until something completely changes. At this point, though, I will be looking to see whether or not we get any type of upward momentum.

Memphis football and Ole Miss haven't played each other since 2019. And it doesn't sound like they will anytime soon.
"Not currently," Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said on Sept. 14, when asked if there had been any recent discussions about future games with Memphis. "Our schedule is pretty solid for the next few years out. Being regional and being close, it's certainly something that we may look at in the future. But we don't have any plans for that in the immediate future."
The teams have met 63 times, but the last one was a Memphis win at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in 2019. In the past, the Tigers would play at least one power conference team every season. But that has become extremely difficult because of changes across the sport, and they don't have a power conference opponent on the schedule for 2026 or 2027.
Chief among those changes is the SEC's move to nine conference games, which means one less spot to schedule a nonconference opponent.
"It just depends," Carter said. "The way scheduling goes now with nine conference games, you're trying to figure out what this new model is going to look like moving forward. Obviously we've had some games in the past, and could in the future. But not right now and not in the immediate future."

After their late loss to Sassuolo last night, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see Juventus finishing inside the top four at the end of this season, according to pundit Roberto Pavanello.
The Bianconeri have been one of the top teams in the world for several decades and have done well to maintain that status, but since they last won the league ******* le in 2020, they have been far from achieving that feat again.
One thing Juventus have consistently managed to do is secure Champions League football, but last season they failed to achieve that. Many believed their failure was linked to the quality of their squad and the fact that Luciano Spalletti did not start the season as their manager.

Next year's Social Security cost-of-living increase looks like it will be 3.6%. The AARP made this forecast. The real figure will be released on October 14. It is based, according to The New York Times, on "the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, or CPI-W. It averages the figures for July, August, and September. That may be fine for people who have a lot of money. For those who don't, it's a problem.
Most of the conversation about Social Security is that it will "run out of money".That happens in late 2032. It really doesn't run out. The payout drops to about 79% of the current total.
People choose one of three options. Social Security defines them as "early eligibility," which can start at 62. "Retirement" age is 65. People can get the largest payout possible if they wait until age 70.
Analysts have proposed several ways to "save" Social Security. Among those is to add two years to three retirement options. Another is to raise the wage level cap when people pay in. Austria's national team head coach Ralf Rangnick announced his squad for the upcoming international matches this Monday afternoon - and our young goalkeeper Christian Zawieschitzky can celebrate his very first call-up to the senior national team! According to the coach, the plan is for our keeper to join the senior squad next week for at least the first two matches of the extended international break, before potentially switching to the U21 team for the European Championship qualifiers afterward.
It's certainly something you dream about as a small child. I used to attend open Austria training sessions just to watch, since it was in my neighborhood, and I even took photos with players like David Alaba. I never imagined things would move this fast and that I'd suddenly be there as a player myself, but I'm very grateful to have this opportunity.The call-up actually comes as a surprise to me. I thought that if I were to be included anywhere, it would likely be the U21s - which I would have thought was great, too. I didn't expect to be part of the senior national team right away. If you turn to Gordon Ramsay for cooking advice, the legendary chef is probably going to have some useful info, but if it's frozen food you're curious about, the man has sent some mixed signals over the years. While the transfer window may be shut, Ajax are not quite done yet in reinforcing the squad. According to De Telegraaf, Ajax are just one of a number of sides keen on signing now former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma. The 30-year-old is a free agent, having left Tottenham this summer. Other sides from top five leagues are interested in the former Tottenham man, so it is by no means guaranteed that Ajax will land the Malian international.
Yet Ajax have shown an ability to pull in some big named players this summer. Julian Brandt left Borussia Dortmund for Ajax during the recent transfer window and is already proving to be a good signing for the Dutch side.

Coming into the season, everyone thought the NFC West would be a dogfight. With the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams, the division features the defending Super Bowl champions and the current favorites to win it all. The San Francisco 49ers are also legitimate contenders, especially after dominating the Rams in Week 1.
What few people expected was the Rams being in last place after the first week of the season. With their 27-7 loss to the 49ers, paired with wins by the Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals, the Rams are the only winless team in the division.
The Cardinals' double-digit win over the Chargers was particularly shocking, as former Rams OC Mike LaFleur led his new team to a 26-14 win on the road over Los Angeles. Perhaps the Cardinals won't be the easy out many people thought they would be.
It's only one week, but this certainly wasn't the way the Rams expected to start the season, sitting in the basement of the West.

PASADENA, Calif. - For three quarters and seven minutes, Bob Chesney's Rose Bowl debut was a dull affair, then just as quickly, the Bruins gave their faithful fans and historic stadium plenty to cheer about.
The SDSU Aztecs came to town looking to present a challenge and they certainly didn't make things easy on the Bruins, nor did the Bruins make things easy back. Both siders traded drives where they accomplished relatively nothing. So much nothing in fact the first play to go past the 50-yard line and into opposing territory didn't happen until Brian Rowe Jr. caught a pass with 11:47 left in the second quarter and both sides went into halftime tied 0-0.
Neither side particularly excelled with their passing, even if UCLA had the slight edge through the first half and finished with a much larger edge with 151 net passing yards to just 45 by SDSU and both sides were equally unsuccessful in their rushing attempts early on, but things started to change for UCLA in the second half.
"That is not the way we want to play football, obviously in the first half," Chesney said. "But at the same point in time, that's where we found ourselves. And I think every once in a while, it wasn't pretty, but it was gritty, and you need one of those."
UCLA struck first with a rushing touchdown courtesy of fifth-year running back Wayne Knight early in the third quarter, but UCLA could have scored far earlier than that if senior quarterback Nico Iamaleava made a different decision in a critical moment.

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables had good things to say about Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood after a 17-10 victory for Michigan over his Oklahoma Sooners. Underwood gashed Oklahoma for 87 yards on the ground, including a rushing score from 38 yards out.
"He's actually exactly who we thought he was," Venables said. "A really talented guy. He's big. He's strong. He's hard to get down one-on-one. He fell forward too often on the quarterback run game. He's got a great future in front of him."
This isn't the first time Venables has been highly complimentary of Underwood. Last year, he compared Underwood to Jacksonville Jaguars QB and former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence. And earlier this week, he said great things about Michigan's young QB even after he struggled against Western Michigan in the season opener.
"One of the most talented players at any position in all of college football. All of his best days are still in front of him," Venables said.
Saturday was certainly a good day for Underwood. Michigan was an underdog, and they weren't expected to win by virtually anyone, yet they did, albeit in a close game and one that Underwood threw for just 111 yards while completing 53% of his passes. Venables is as good a defensive game planner as there is in college football; therefore, his compliments of Underwood should hold some weight. Underwood's best days could be in front of him, as long as improvement continues for him and the Michigan team as a whole.

Shane Lowry holds a four shot lead heading into the final round of the Irish Open on Sunday.
Lowry posted a fine round of 65 on Saturday at the Irish Open and is sitting at 16-under for the tournament, with Jacob Skov Olesen his nearest challenger on 12-under.

Two Premier League matches at Anfield. Two draws.
For just the third time in 63 years, Liverpool have failed to win both of their opening home games of a league season - not exactly the flying start new boss Andoni Iraola would have been dreaming of.
After such an encouraging midweek performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, full of urgency, Saturday's goalless draw against Fulham was a flat follow-up, especially with the Cottagers lacking in confidence and having conceded seven goals in their first three league games.
The Reds looked physically and mentally tired and, to put it bluntly, like an entirely different team to the one that won against a Diego Simeone side that made it to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
On the first real look at how Iraola's style will cope with two games a week, this was certainly not what the Liverpool head coach, nor the Anfield crowd, would have wanted to see.

Texas senator Ted Cruz, whose attendance at big sporting events hasn't always gone well for the Lone Star State's teams, appeared on College GameDay on Saturday ahead of the Longhorns' home clash with Ohio State.
While we're not sure the reason why, the crowd booed Cruz and heckled him throughout the nearly 10-minute segment with Rece Davis. College GameDay crowds are usually bipartisan and sports-focused, so perhaps the jeering was purely because of Cruz's spotty track record with his teams winning when he attends the games.
We're not sure what exactly caused this, but it's certainly notable whenever a political figure of any party gets such a negative reaction from a crowd like this.

A whole new generation is about to be introduced to one of the most beloved boy bands of the 1990s when Taylor Hanson begins his dance journey on Dancing With the Stars. The middle Hanson brother is partnered with Britt Stewart in Season 35 of the dance competition.

Eli Drinkwitz doesn't usually mince words. While mostly affable, the Missouri head coach doesn't always subscribe to tact. He's not to afraid to say how he feels.
He certainly didn't pull any punches after his No. 23 Tigers squad humbled Kansas on the road Friday night in the latest iteration of the schools' "Border Showdown." Missouri (2-0) handed the Jayhawks (1-1) a 38-21 defeat that could have looked even more lopsided had a head-turning shot to the end zone not fallen incomplete in the game's waning moments at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
That potential death knell resulted from Drinkwitz's frustration toward Kansas and the way the Jayhawks brazenly approached the programs' longstanding yet complicated rivalry in the lead-up to the matchup.
Kansas leaned into the Civil War history between the two states, posting a pregame hype video framed as "heroes vs. villains" with the social media caption, "It is that deep." Drinkwitz wasn't amused and fundamentally disagreed.
"I get there's a past to it, but why are we stirring that bull **** up? It's 9/11," Drinkwitz said postgame on Friday, the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The inspiration comes from the 1997 kit, a year in which Santos FC fielded a team of widely recognized technical quality and built its journey throughout the season with determination in the face of challenges. The new kit transforms that spirit into a contemporary reinterpretation, connecting memory and tradition with a more modern visual proposal.
"The launch of the number 3 kit strengthens Santos FC's connection with its history and with a period of great emotion. More than that, it reinforces its bond with the fans and with a chant that represents encouragement and motivation for our players. The phrase 'Go with determination' has been part of great victories and historic comebacks. Santos FC and Umbro have maintained a long partnership, focused on the club and especially on our fans.
