The U.S. was looking to get some early momentum in the fourballs session as Megan Khang and Lauren Coughlin took on Maja Stark and Linn Grant in the first match.
On the first hole of the session, with the crowd's singing heard in the background, their best player Lauren Coughlin stuffed a perfect wedge into gimme range.
Maja Stark responded by hitting an even more perfect wedge that took two bounces short of the hole and went in on the fly.
Stark and Coughlin look to maintain their lead as the day goes on.

Lazio have officially announced their signing of Portuguese centre-back Diogo Leite on a free transfer following their flying start to the 2026-27 Serie A season, which sees them joint top of the pack after three matches.

West Bromwich Albion left-back Callum Styles has said he has taken on more of a leadership role in the side after the departures of several experienced players and the arrival of younger talent during the summer transfer window.
Seven new arrivals at The Hawthorns were aged 23 or younger, while three players aged over 30 made their exits this summer alongside Karlan Grant and Kristian Bielik, both 28, and 27-year-old Josh Maja.
The plan to bring more youth into the team means Styles, 26, is one of the older members of the squad.
"I think that's natural [to step into leadership] when you've played a lot of games in the Championship and you're getting older season by season," Styles told BBC Radio WM.
"Quite a few of us that were here last year feel like it's our role to then get the new lads adjusted to the league, to the team and to the physicality as quickly as possible.

According to a report from Forbes, tennis legend Roger Federer has temporarily lost his billionaire status due to one of the companies he's invested in.
Roger Federer may have fewer major **** les than Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, but he's widely considered the greatest tennis player of all time by many fans.
Federer won more than $130 million playing tennis in prizes for his performances in various tournaments. However, his real wealth came off the court, from endorsement deals and shrewd investments.
A while back, Forbes announced that the Swiss legend had become a billionaire. Now, however, it seems he has temporarily fallen out of the club once again.

If a recent transfer update from The Daily Record is believed to be true, Rangers are eyeing a move for Kosta Nedeljković. They would prefer a permanent deal for the Aston Villa right-back but are also open to a season-long loan with an option to buy contract.
The 20-year-old Serbia international progressed through Red Star Belgrade's academy ranks before being loaned out to Grafičar in the second division for first-team football. He made 20 senior appearances for Red Star during the 2023-24 season and was eventually roped in by the Villans for £8m.
After a sporadic start in the first six months, Nedeljković joined RB Leipzig on loan for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign. He rejoined the Bundesliga giants last summer, but was hardly involved, primarily due to injury concerns. He has now returned to Villa Park, only to find himself behind Matty Cash, with the latter being the preferred choice on the right.

Unai Emery has often deployed Ezri Konsa and Lamare Bogarde as makeshift fullbacks and, therefore, does not fancy the Serbian in his immediate plans. The youngster, too, should seek a fresh challenge for regular gametime, and a transfer north of the border could earn him ******* ured minutes, given their conundrum in the defensive third.

Multiple sources confirm Roma have asked Torino for the availability of 19-year-old winger Alessio Cacciamani, who spent last season on loan at Juve Stabia.

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England — Europe captain Anna Nordqvist finalized her Solheim Cup team Monday by adding veteran Leona Maguire and three rookies as her picks for the Sept. 11-13 matches in The Netherlands.
Charley Hull of England easily earned one of the two automatic spots from the Ladies European Tour points list. The other went to Esther Henseleit of Germany, who surged to No. 2 in the final two events.
Henseleit finished fourth in the Women's Scottish Open and then lost in a playoff at the Women's British Open (points are double in a major) to narrowly beat Chiara Tamburlini of Switzerland for the second spot.
Henseleit's 40-foot birdie putt to force a playoff with AIG Women's Open winner Shiho Kuwaki wound up costing Tamburlini a spot. Even without making it on points, Henseleit would have made her second straight team as one of the leading six players in the world ranking.
Those six spots instead fell to Solheim rookie Lottie Woad of England, Maja Stark and Linn Grant of Sweden, Carlota Ciganda of Spain, Celine Boutier of France and Nanna Koertz Madsen of Denmark.

Per reports in Spain and England on Tuesday, Aston Villa are interested in bringing Matteo Ruggeri to the Premier League, and the Atlético de Madrid left-back is contemplating whether to accept an offer from the Birmingham-based club or hold out for a return to Serie A.
First advanced by Isaac Suárez in Marca, Aston Villa's interest in Ruggeri comes two weeks after the player's agent declared that his client was going nowhere this summer, even after Atlético completed the signing of Spain international Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen. Tullio Tinti and Manuel Montipó, Ruggeri's representatives, were present Tuesday at Atleti's training session in Majadahonda, where the 24-year-old worked with the substitutes and Madrileño players instead of the starting team.
Suárez describes the negotiations as fast-moving, and Villa want to sign the player "immediately." He claims that a transfer could be done "in the next few hours," which in reality means "sometime in the next few days."
Ruggeri had an uneven debut season in Madrid after Atleti signed him from Atalanta last year. After a difficult start, he found form in January and ended the season with seven ****** ists across 47 appearances in all competitions. But according to The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell, Ruggeri first the "physical profile of left-back" that Villa manager Unai Emery wants, as veteran Lucas Digne is set to join Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days. Emery's preferred target reportedly is Milan's Pervis Estupiñán, but negotiations for his former Villarreal pupil have not progressed.
It is not yet known how much money Villa are offering to sign Ruggeri. But seeing as he has four years left on his contract and was signed initially for around €20 million, the chances are good that Atlético will turn a profit by selling Ruggeri to England. With Grimaldo soon to join following his post-World Cup holiday, the club views Ruggeri's sale as necessary to make further additions to the team — including the much-desired signing of a center-back.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - JULY 19: Lionel Messi #10 of Argentina reacts after the 0-1 loss during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Maja Hitij - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images)
For a decade, one player's genius bought the Albiceleste the world's affection. His exit leaves the rest of the team standing there without it.
One image did the rounds after the 2026 World Cup Final: eleven men turning their backs on the winners, rather than facing them as tradition and basic grace require.
On July 19, in a stadium in New Jersey, the defending world champions stood in a row and stared at the grass while Spain lifted the trophy a few feet away. Not one of them watched. Behind them, Leandro Paredes had already grabbed a Spanish player by the throat and, per Alan Shearer, "threw two or three haymakers" into someone's face. Enzo Fernández had been sent off before extra time even started. Nahuel Molina reportedly took a swing at Rodri. FIFA has since appointed a prosecutor. That image, far more than the 1-0 scoreline, is what most of the planet took home from this final.

In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Chelsea are eager to recruit Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. It has been stated that the Blues have set their sights on the French centre-back and are keen on finalising a move for him this summer.
Lacroix was a rock at the back for the Eagles in the previous campaign when he produced a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 26-year-old scored three times and earned three ***** ists in 55 matches for Crystal Palace last season across multiple competitions.
The English talent is currently one of the most talented centre-halves in the Premier League. Therefore, Chelsea would do well to bring him to Stamford Bridge in this transfer period.
His current contract at Selhurst Park will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for the Blues to sign him on the cheap later this year.

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — Aki Iwai shot an 8-under 63 for a two-stroke lead on Thursday in the first round of the Evian Championship, the fourth women's golf major of the season, as top-ranked Nelly Korda struggled.
The 24th-ranked Iwai had eight birdies and no dropped shots in the sun-splashed lakeside town that three weeks ago hosted the G7 summit of world leaders.
Japan's Iwai made birdies at three of the last four holes, including the par-5 18th, and led by two shots from Perrine Delacour, whose 6-under 65 included an eagle at the par-5 15th and a pair of bogeys toward the end of her round.
A group of five players with 5-under 66s included the winner of the Women's PGA Championship two weeks ago, Haeran Ryu, and world No. 5 Charley Hull, who started the week as a guest in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.
Hull had two early bogeys before making the turn at level par, then came home in just 31 shots capped by an eagle at the par-5 18th. Also on 5 under were Mao Saigo, Maja Stark and Jin Hee Im.

We are only seven months into the Matt Campbell era at Penn State and it has been a rollercoaster. It started with no expectations after a mass exodus of talent that stemmed from James Franklin’s dismissal as head coach. However, the pressure ratcheted right back up when Campbell and his staff went on an impressive recruiting run to restock the Nittany Lions’ future with a strong contingent of players.
Once considered to be one of the top recruiting classes in the country, the team’s 2027 ranking has taken a significant hit in recent months after a flurry of commitment flips. Just last week Penn State had the 12th-best 2027 recruiting class according to 247Sports, but it’s now fallen all the way down to No. 24 after four-star running back Aiden Gibson’s stunning flip to Rutgers.
There was really no indication that his commitment was on shaky ground, but he now follows notable recruits like Khalil Taylor and Semajay Robinson as the latest high-profile prospect to change his mind about Penn State. Nearly everyone, player or coach, who passes through the building speaks about how nice the campus is and how storied of a program the team has.
However, the Nittany Lions have been unable to solidify their standing with these players for some reason. With pretty much all of their top targets off the board in one way or another, there aren’t many more moves to be made for next year’s class. We just need to hope that the players still committed don’t follow suit and jump ship too.

Penn State has placed a clear emphasis on the defensive backfield heading into the 2026 season and beyond. Matt Campbell brought over numerous secondary pieces from Iowa State, such as safety Jeremiah Cooper and cornerback Hunter Sowell, and it’s the area he’s spent the most energy on during recruiting.
Of the team’s 21 commitments in the Class of 2027, five of them are defensive backs, and this is even after some prospects like Semajay Robinson and Zachary Gleason Jr. flipped earlier this year. Although there is still a long way to go until players from the Class of 2028 start rolling in, the Nittany Lions are trying to stake an early claim on that secondary group as well.
Safety Geo McKnight recently spoke about the school and its knack for molding defenders, saying, “The history of that program in developing talent, especially defensive players, is really unmatched.”
McKnight is a fast-rising prospect from Ohio who just recently earned his fourth star from 247Sports. Penn State is among a long list of teams, including Big Ten rivals like Ohio State and Michigan, competing for the safety’s services, but it seems like they’re gaining some steam early on in his recruitment.
The Nittany Lions have suffered some brutal recruiting losses over the last few weeks, so becoming a favorite for McKnight would be a welcome change.

Maja Chwalinska’s French Open fairytale turned into a Wimbledon nightmare after the Roland Garros runner-up was knocked out in the first round by Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew.
Last month, Chwalinska made history by becoming the first play to advance to the French Open final as a qualifier, losing to Mirra Andreeva while ranked as the world No 114 in Paris.
Due to Chwalinska’s historic run coming after the direct cut-off for Wimbledon, the Polish player was in the extremely rare position of requiring a wildcard but entering the singles draw as the 20th seed.
However, the 24-year-old crashed down to earth as she lost 2-6 7-5 6-2 to the Thai qualifier Sawangkaew, who is ranked 164th in the world. Chwalinska took a medical timeout after slipping and hurting her ankle on match point, which came in the second set. Her movement was limited after slipping on the grass and turning her foot.
“I'm definitely very disappointed. I was one point from winning the match.,” Chwalinska said. “It's a grand slam. It's tennis, it's sport, so I will lose many more like this, and I will hopefully win some like that.

Chwalinska took a medical timeout after slipping and hurting her ankle on match point.

McGee has always been a prime target for cornerbacks coach Terry Smith, and this one became a bit more realistic when Semajay Robinson opted for UVA and Zachary Gleason opted for West Virginia. With the 2027 cornerback class dropping from four to two, McGee became more of a necessary piece than a luxury like it seemed a few weeks back. He took visits to SMU, Penn State, and Texas in subsequent weeks, with this decision coming down to the Longhorns and Nittany Lions. Obviously, Penn State came out on top with McGee making the call for the Nittany Lions earlier this evening.
I feel like I have said this a lot this cycle, but despite the three-star ratings from On3 and 247, McGee is a supremely talented prospect. You don’t get down to a final two of Penn State and Texas — where he was a take, it was a committable offer — by lacking talent. So on one hand I do expect McGee’s ranking to rise in the coming weeks and months. He has premier length for the position at 6-foot-1 and ran a 10.5 flat 100M recently. For reference, Journey Brown ran a 10.42 as a senior so McGee can absolutely fly. But McGee is a raw prospect who will probably need some seasoning both technically and physically, as he’s just 175 pounds right now. Still, he’s a great piece of clay as a corner prospect, and I’m not one to bet against Terry Smith.
Also, I know the vibes around recruiting have been a bit up and down in recent weeks, most notably with Jamir Dean flipping to Georgia, Deshawn Hall going with Auburn, and Khalil Taylor seemingly holding an auction for his college football services. But it has not been all bad. Beating out Florida for defensive Elijah Guertin was a very impressive victory. Beating out Oklahoma for an Oklahoma kid (and legacy!) in Case Alexander was even more impressive. And now, going into Texas and beating out the Longhorns for a kid they wanted. Not to divulge paywall info, but the Texas message boards thought this was going to be Texas as of early this morning. So three really impressive recruiting wins in the last 10 days — not too shabby.

Lazio have released a statement after losing the landmark case for unfairly terminating the employment of player Maja Gothberg due to her pregnancy, but it only made the fans angrier.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled today that Lazio Women must pay former player Gothberg over €69,000 in compensation.
She had already agreed a new contract in 2024 and was ready to sign it when she informed the club of her pregnancy, but the paperwork was never registered.
When she did not travel for pre-season training due to nausea, Lazio claimed this meant she had withdrawn from the proposed contract and it was no longer binding.
The club released a lengthy statement this afternoon in the wake of the landmark case, the first of its kind in Women's Football.

The FSU Seminoles have added another player maker to their 2027 recruiting class, receiving a commitment from wide receiver Majay Thompson on Friday.
He is the second wide receiver that Florida State has landed, and they had to beat out the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Wake Forest Demon Deacons to do so. He is a nice pairing with four-star Sean Green and is coming off a strong junior season.
Thompson finished the year with 53 receptions for 865 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 16.3 yards per catch. He is ranked as the No. 627 overall player and No. 79 safety in the 247Sports composite. The 5-foot-11, 181-pounder is also the No. 21 player from North Carolina.
FSU's recruiting class is focused on the front seven, with five of its 11 commitments set to play along the defensive line or at linebacker. The class is led by four-star linebacker Jernard Albright, their highest-rated commit and the only one ranked among the top 200 players in the country.
The Seminoles now have 11 total commitments and have the No. 56 recruiting class in the country according to the 247Sports team rankings. Here is how FSU's recruiting class compares to the rest of the ACC.

Nike tennis comes under a lot of criticism because aside from its attention to Naomi Osaka and to a lesser degree, Alexandra Eala, its focus is far less than on the days of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams’ dominance.
However, it finally woke up and gave us yesteryear vibes specifically in the response to Mirra Andreeva‘s 2026 French Open maiden slam win and the return of Serena to the sport after nearly four years away.

Games of card game UNO and a special relationship on and off court have helped Mirra Andreeva and Conchita Martinez build a grand slam-winning partnership.

Andreeva had not yet turned 17 when she turned to Martinez in April 2024 and now, just over two years later, the pair are celebrating a first major triumph for the Russian teenager at the French Open.

After a tournament of upsets, crash-outs and rank outsiders storming into the mainstream, the men’s and women’s French Open finals have ended up looking remarkably familiar. Three of the four finalists were seeds, with an Italian man and Polish woman both in the line-up. That they weren’t the expected pairing was testament to the upside-down quality of this Roland-Garros – and the determination of both characters.
Poland’s Maja Chwalinska had previously shown promise on clay but was always a highly unlikely finalist, rising from world No 114 to just outside the top 20 and coming through three qualifying matches to even make the main draw.
Meanwhile the men’s final will not feature Jannik Sinner, nor the absent Lorenzo Musetti, but another promising young Italian seizing the opportunity of the draw suddenly collapsing around him. 10th seed Flavio Cobolli is now into his first major final and while his story may not rival Chwalinska’s for its Cinderella quality, it writes another page in one of the most remarkable success stories this decade: the seemingly endless rise of Italian tennis.
Three Italians made the quarter-finals and Cobolli then guaranteed an Italian finalist, while Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani have already secured one ******* le this week, in mixed doubles. There are six Italians in the top 100 and two more hovering just outside: quarter-finalist Matteo Berrettini, whose tournament was crippled once more by injury, and semi-finalist Matteo Arnaldi, whose big moment was spoiled by viral illness.
So it is 24-year-old Cobolli who is the last man standing. In many ways the clear foil to the level-headed, introspective Sinner, Cobolli is charismatic on and off the court, his game full of style and flair, and he has for some time been a natural understudy to his compatriot.

Alexander Zverev plays Flavio Cobolli in the final of the French Open, with the German bidding to end his grand slam duck after three bruising final defeats.
The second seed has been the red-hot favourite to lift the Coupe des Mousquetaires since the surprise early exits of top seed Jannik Sinner and 24-time major winner Novak Djokovic, and has made smooth progress through the draw, only dropping two sets.
The scar tissue from those three losses in major finals is likely to be his biggest weakness - which 10th seed Cobolli will hope to exploit, with the Italian appearing in his maiden grand slam final.
The world No 14 advanced to the final via walkover after compatriot Matteo Arnaldi came down with a viral illness, which prevented him taking to the court for Friday’s semi-final.

"I want to thank myself."
That was the phrase emblazoned on Mirra Andreeva's jacket as she lifted her first Grand Slam trophy at the French Open.
After a dominant 6-3 6-2 victory over Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska that made the 19-year-old the youngest woman to win the Roland Garros singles ******* le since Monica Seles in 1992, Andreeva rattled off a lengthy list of thank yous.
She started by showing her gratitude to Chwalinska, before moving onto tournament organisers and her team - including her coach, former French Open finalist Conchita Martinez.
But Andreeva reserved the final - and most important - thanks for herself.

Now and then, a young player comes around that you know is destined for greatness even before they win anything significant. That was Mirra Andreeva, the minute she arrived on the scene as a 15-year-old making her tour-level debut.
Blessed with an elite counterpunching game and a tennis IQ that transcends her youth, she always looked the part. And now, despite having already won some big ******* les, she’s now won one of the biggest ******* les in the sport, claiming the French Open singles ******* le to clinch her maiden Grand Slam trophy.
This French Open, across both draws, had already produced some of the most shocking and equally interesting results, rarely seen in this tournament, with many of the favourites and top seeds falling early. It culminated in one of the most unexpected women’s finals between teenage prodigy Mirra Andreeva and surprise sensation Maja Chwalinska. The teenager arrived as the favourite, but nothing was being taken for granted in a tournament that had already provided sufficient warnings.
The match started with a trade of four breaks following an expected nervy first few exchanges, with the wind playing no small part. After which, both players finally held their first service games. Normal service seemed to have resumed as Andreeva broke in the 7th game; however, she held serve to get within a game of winning the set.
Chwalinska stepped to the line, knowing she must hold to stay in the set. However, Andreeva was looking dialled in at that point, as she broke again to bring an end to a set that saw only three service holds.
