A TikTok influencer named Christy Wong responded to the internet's outrage about her dating preferences in her video **** led "Is it okay to have Racial Preferences in Dating?" Wong claimed people are missing the point of attraction and criticizing what they can't control.
First, Wong set the context and described people's reaction to her earlier statement about her dating preferences.
"People get very upset when hearing that other people have dating preferences," Wong said. "So I said that my preferences are white Americans, Chinese, and Koreans, and a lot of people are very upset with that. So let's talk about it, because I personally don't think it's worthwhile criticizing other people's dating preferences."
Then, she addressed the argument that people's preferences may be affected by the media and historical background.
"I said that my preferences come primarily from familiarity. But a lot of people say that our preferences can also be largely shaped by media and history, and it can reflect, internalize racism. And I don't disagree with that. There's no denying that that is definitely true. The media shapes what we find attractive. It shapes what I find attractive. It shapes yours. I don't think anybody is above it," she said.

Aug 22 (Reuters) - Iran has granted permission for a number of Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz following repeated requests from Baghdad through various channels, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported on Saturday.
IRNA said obtaining special permission for Iraqi tankers was one of Baghdad's main requests during Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf's visit to Iraq.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi said on Saturday that Iran had facilitated the passage of vessels carrying Iraqi oil through the Strait in recent days and Baghdad had discussed the export of Iraqi oil through Hormuz with Iranian officials.
The issue remained complicated, he added, speaking at the Baghdad Dialogue policy conference.
Iraq has been among the countries most affected by Iran's effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic in the strait remains significantly below pre-war levels and ships continue to face attacks in the area.

Liverpool have made an enquiry over the availability of Real Madrid forward Endrick as Andoni Iraola looks to strengthen his attacking options before the summer transfer window closes.
Paul Joyce of The Times reports that Liverpool have asked about the Brazilian international, whose prospects of regular football at the Bernabeu have been affected by Real Madrid's £120million signing of Yan Diomande.
However, Real Madrid's position is understood to be clear at present, with the Spanish club not looking to allow Endrick to leave.
The Endrick development represents one of the more intriguing elements of Liverpool's attempts to reinforce their forward line.
Joyce reports that Liverpool "asked about the availability of Endrick", although Madrid "are not looking to let the Brazilian leave."

The UK's first national day for victims and survivors of terrorism is being held in London on Friday where those affected by the violence of the Troubles will be in attendance.
The day aims to recognise people impacted by terrorism including victims and their families, witnesses and the emergency services, as well as raising awareness about specialist support.
For the rest of the UK, these could be terror attacks such as the London Bridge terror attack, the Manchester Arena attack in 2017 or the 7/7 bombings.
But in Northern Ireland, many will be remembering the atrocities of the Troubles, which lasted 30 years and cost the lives of more than 3,500 people.
The government said it introduced the national day for victims and survivors of terrorism following campaigning from victims and survivors for better recognition of their lived experiences.

As the 2026 MLB season has unfolded, everyone involved, front offices, players, and fans, has approached this season with a sense of urgency.
The reason? Most observers aren't sure there will be a season in 2027.
There will be a work stoppage following the completion of the World Series once the current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires, most likely through an owner's lockout of the players that will last for months. Spring training will be affected and the likelihood that games will be missed next year is very real.
Owners want a salary cap. The MLB Player's Union is dead set against it.
It is the Kashmir issue of MLB's labor battle. It is the Taiwan. It is the Jerusalem. It is seemingly the one topic on which there can be no compromise.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's reported return to the UK is reportedly due to this major reason. According to insiders, the Sussexes' financial status was part of their decision-making. Earlier, several reports suggested that the couple has been going through money troubles in California. However, it was recently reported that the parents of two are "not out of money," but their expenses seemed to be high.
One of the reasons why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly returning to the UK has been revealed. An insider told Page Six that "cash is a big" reason for their move. "They are not out of money," they said, adding, "Anything that comes in instantly goes out." According to a source, the Sussexes' expenses affected their financial status, allegedly leading them to move to Britain.
Furthermore, the insider claimed that Harry has seemingly inherited a fortune from some of his relatives. Over the years, Markle has also helped financially through her lifestyle brand, As Ever, and her Netflix project, "With Love, Meghan." From philanthropic work to exploring the entertainment market, the couple has dived into many opportunities. Thanks to their hard work, they reportedly had "more money than most even before Megxit!"
However, the more they earned, the more expenses they dealt with. According to the outlet, Markle and Harry had two mortgages on their mansion in Montecito, California. They also had a large household staff, so their salaries might have put a strain on the couple financially. Moreover, the Sussexes owned a vacation estate in Portugal. On top of these expenses, Harry lost a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against ***** ociated Newspapers.
Meanwhile, Harry and Markle are said to be returning to the UK. It has not been confirmed when they will move or how long they plan to stay. But reports claimed that they would stay outside London and their kids would start school in September.

Layoffs and facility closures are mounting across U.S. freight, distribution and manufacturing networks, with more than 7,000 jobs affected by recently announced workforce reductions involving companies ranging from Tyson Foods and FedEx to Ryder, CJ Logistics America and Daimler Truck.
The largest reduction comes from Tyson Foods, which is reportedly eliminating more than 3,000 jobs as it closes facilities in Joslin, Illinois, and Eagle Mountain, Utah. The food giant said it is shifting beef operations toward Nebraska, Kansas and Texas amid what it described as a historic cattle shortage.
Wholesale distributor Essendant also warned of sweeping cuts affecting more than 1,200 employees across six states as the company attempts to secure additional capital or find a buyer.
WARN notices show approximately 644 jobs affected in Illinois, 192 in Georgia, 150 in Pennsylvania, 136 in Texas, 103 in California and 53 in Arizona. The reductions are scheduled to begin Oct. 3. The company has warned that it could cease operations and liquidate if financing or a sale cannot be secured.
The announcements are part of a broader wave of restructuring hitting transportation, warehousing, fulfillment and manufacturing operations.

Andy Burnham has blamed Donald Trump's war in Iran for higher inflation in Britain.
Inflation jumped from 2.6pc in June to 2.9pc last month, according to the Office for National Statistics, threatening to undermine Mr Burnham's pledge to bring down the cost of living.
The Prime Minister said: "We can't control though what is going on in the Middle East and the effect of the conflict there is now being felt in inflation here, and in other countries around the world.
"I realise these times are really hard but already people can see a month into office I have done things that will make a difference."
July's inflation figure was affected by a 13.5pc rise in the Ofgem price cap in response to the energy crisis unleashed by the Iran war. It means prices are now rising at their highest rate since March.

If Jalen Duren's negotiations drag on as long as they can, how would that affect Ausar Thompson's potential rookie-scale extension? John Hollinger: I see two dominoes here. First, the Pistons need to know what Duren's number will be on their books in 2028 and 2029 before they can finalize their cap planning and determine their best path for Thompson's next deal. Second, there is an important question of which player they value more, one that will play out rather publicly if Thompson inks an extension shortly after Duren's deal is completed. Of course, it's possible that, as with Duren, Detroit doesn't agree with Thompson on an extension and he becomes a restricted free agent next summer.

DETROIT — LIV Golf finally has confirmed what's been quite clear for a while: The Michigan tournament is not happening. LIV Golf announced Monday afternoon it will crown its 2026 individual and team champions this week at its event in Indianapolis.
Michigan was supposed to host the season-ending team championship for a second consecutive year, from Aug. 27-30, but there have been countless signs for the past several weeks that Michigan's tournament was doomed, amid the league's ongoing funding crisis. There was no immediate word on financial implications for Saint John's Resort in Plymouth Township, where the tournament was to be hosted at The Cardinal. The resort is believed to have paid a seven-figure fee to LIV to host.
LIV Golf said fans who purchased tickets to the Michigan event will receive refunds, but didn't give any specific details on how or when refunds would be issued. The News has reached out to LIV Golf for clarity. LIV Golf still was selling tickets to the Michigan tournament until late last week, despite obvious signs the event wasn't happening.
"We are disappointed that the LIV Golf team championship will no longer be held in August," Kevin Doyle, COO of the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation, said in a statement to The Detroit News. "We were excited to welcome the event back after last year's tremendous reception from fans and the praise Saint John's Resort and The Cardinal received from LIV players. We wish LIV the best in the future. And we remain committed to making Saint John's Resort a place where the Michigan community comes to expect memorable, one-of-a-kind golf and resort experiences."
A LIV Golf representative told The Detroit News: "Details on refunds are being communicated directly to affected ticket holders."

Maria Menounos is a cancer survivor. The Medford native was the third or fourth scheduled Jimmy Fund-supported appearance on tonight's broadcast/telethon, the scheduling of which was impeccable. The Sox pulled ahead and away early and never let up, and the appearance of Menounos and other affected families was more conspicuous on the broadcast than ever, due to the team kicking a lot of ******* . It was inspiring and a reminder that the time will be passed, goshdarnit, and it will occasionally force you to think about things you didn't anticipate, and you learn something.
Then it all comes back to beisbol, and when the Sox go up 9-1 in the 6th, and Maria sez "God is blessing this game," it's hard to disagree. By that point, every Sox starter had an RBI. That's *really* hard to do. And while it should probably be noted that AZ star Ketel Marte simply didn't show up to the game (which is wild), he wouldn't have helped. Among the bountiful Sox highlights: Adley Rutschman broke out of his slump with an RBI double one at-bat after reaching on a stupid error; Ceddy Rafaela hit 3 doubles; Willson Contreras went yard and Brayan Bello went hard, 4.2 IP while allowing 1R with 3Ks. It was 11-1 by the time it was done. The details are over there. The feeling is right here. Drink it in.

England white-ball captain Harry Brook has spoken about the criticism he received during his only Indian Premier League (IPL) season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023, saying he was caught up in scrutiny on social media.
Brook scored 190 runs in the 2023 season despite making a century against Kolkata Knight Riders. His form dropped after that innings, and he came under pressure over his performances.
Looking back at that period, Brook said the attention around his IPL campaign affected him both on and off the field.
"I got into a little bit of a rabbit hole with scrutiny and social media when I was at the IPL," Brook told BBC Sport. "It didn't help me as a person on the field or off the field. I decided to, not stay away from social media, but also not go out of my way to look at it."
Brook said he now tries to view criticism differently, arguing that scrutiny can also show that people care about his performances.
"On the other hand, I actually feel it's a little bit of a compliment if people are giving me scrutiny and have an opinion about my game. I know it's not a nice thing to see people slagging you off, but it means people care and people think I can put in a better performance than I have done that day," he said.
Before his century against KKR, Brook had been criticised for his performances and said he was pleased to "shut up" supporters who were "slagging me off".
Brook has not returned to the IPL since that 2023 season. He was released by SRH before Delhi Capitals signed him for Rs 4 crore in 2024. He then withdrew from the 2024 season following the death of his grandmother.
DC bought Brook again for Rs 6.25 crore at the 2025 mega auction, but he pulled out of the tournament to prioritise his international commitments.
Brook was subsequently handed a two-year IPL ban under the BCCI's rules. He is eligible to return to the league at the 2028 mega auction.

Dr. Terry Dubrow's plastic surgery practice experienced a data breach that resulted in cybercriminals accessing sensitive information belonging to patients. The information potentially included Social Security numbers, medical records and other personal details.
Dubrow, who is married to Heather Dubrow and is known for his connection to Real Housewives of Orange County, said there was no evidence that the stolen information had been misused or shared.
The breach reportedly began in January 2025, according to a notice filed with the California Attorney General. Dubrow's practice confirmed last month that patient data had been taken and began notifying affected individuals.
The information potentially included Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, addresses, birth dates, prescription information and treatment records. Some patient information also included procedure images and X-rays.
Dubrow told TMZ cybercriminals had become increasingly sophisticated with artificial intelligence and other technology. He also said he had spent significant money and resources on protecting patient information.

Jamal Musiala sparked concern during Bayern Munich's 3-1 win over RB Leipzig after going down on the pitch shortly after coming on as a substitute.
The Bayern star had only been on the pitch for around 15 minutes when he suddenly needed medical attention, leaving players and staff around him worried.
Musiala had actually provided a positive moment shortly before the incident, scoring in the 81st minute in front of the Bayern supporters.

The German eventually managed to get back to his feet and walk off the pitch, although he appeared visibly affected by what had happened.

The organization is currently operating or helping to run 13 emergency shelters for displaced residents, Stigdon said. The Red Cross sheltered more than 200 people overnight on Aug. 15 and distributed about 4,700 meals and snacks.
"The American Red Cross was here before the storms hit, we are here now and we will be here for the months to come to help people recover," Stigdon said.

India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel revealed that the visitors had a clear plan to score quickly but sensibly on the rain-affected second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. India eventually ended the day at 460/9, with Kuldeep Yadav unbeaten on 12 and Prasidh Krishna on 1.
Jurel walked in after India had already lost KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant but played an attacking knock to keep the momentum going. The right-hander struck 51 off 68 deliveries, including four fours and a six. He added a crucial 55-run partnership with Manav Suthar, helping India cross the 400-run mark.
"There was a plan to score runs briskly, but sensibly. We weren't looking to go bonkers from ball one, but there was a plan," Jurel said during the post-match press conference.
The India batter also revealed that his previous experience of playing in Sri Lanka with India A helped him understand the conditions and approach the innings with confidence.
"I know conditions here, having played for India A here. I was under no pressure, it's a privilege to play for India," Jurel added.
Jurel was given a reprieve on 29 when Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva dropped a difficult chance at first slip. However, the captain later made amends by taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Jurel off Prabath Jayasuriya.
The standout performer for India was Devdutt Padikkal, who continued his sensational form from Day 1 to score a magnificent 167 off 230 ******* . Padikkal's innings included 15 fours and a six, and he became only the third Indian batter to score 150 or more against Sri Lanka from the No. 3 position, joining Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara.
Jurel was full of praise for his teammate and pointed out that Padikkal has consistently delivered whenever opportunities have come his way.
"Devdutt scores whenever he gets a chance," Dhruv Jurel said.
Padikkal's dismissal eventually triggered another phase of Sri Lankan pressure, with Prabath Jayasuriya finishing with 4/109 and Keshara Nuwantha taking 3/175.
Despite India's imposing total, Jurel knows the job is far from finished. The wicketkeeper-batter stressed that India's bowlers will need to maintain discipline and be prepared for long spells when Sri Lanka begin their first innings.
"We need to bowl long spells here and be consistent with lengths. We need to take 20 wickets," he said.
The second day was heavily disrupted by rain, with the morning session completely washed out before play finally resumed at 2:35 PM local time. India began the day at 288/2 and lost seven wickets for 172 runs, but still managed to build a formidable first-innings total. KL Rahul scored 82 after returning to the crease following cramps on Day 1, while Rishabh Pant made 39 and Ravindra Jadeja contributed 13.

Organizers of the European Athletics Championships were hoping for a final day without problems on Sunday after the Birmingham event was again struck by negative headlines.
Transport away from the Alexander Stadium was suspended after events finished on Saturday and some medal ceremonies had to be postponed until Sunday. A statement from organizers said "necessary security measures" were carried out while police arrested a man on suspicion of fraud.
"The safety and wellbeing of our spectators, athletes, workforce and the wider Championships family will always be our first priority," the statement added.
"We recognise that the delays presented challenges for those affected and would like to thank everyone for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the evening."
The problems followed a championships dominated by talk of huge swathes of empty seats early in the seven-day event and heavy criticism from spectators who have attended over high ticket and food prices.

Ravindra Jadeja has opened up about the struggles he faced during the early stages of his India career, admitting that being pushed down the batting order often affected his confidence and made him question the team's faith in his batting ability. As India look to continue their dominance after a commanding Day 1 against Sri Lanka, Jadeja reflected on his growth as a Test batter and revealed how he developed the temperament to play long innings.
"When I started, I used to bat at number 4. If you look at my entire Ranji Trophy career, my average is more than 60. Whatever Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy first-class cricket I have played domestically, my batting average is more than 60. So somewhere, I had that belief that I had that ability. But sometimes what happens is that you come into the Indian team and you don't get that batting number," Jadeja said in a chat with broadcasters ahead of day two's play, which has been delayed due to rain.
The all-rounder admitted that regularly batting at No. 8 or 9, and sometimes even below Ravichandran Ashwin, affected his confidence during the initial years of his international career.
"Sometimes the situation is such that I have batted at number 8 and 9 as well. So, when you are sitting in the dressing room with your pads on, next to you, a fast bowler is selecting a ball. Seeing all those things, my morale and confidence would go down. Sometimes you think to yourself, 'I have to go and score runs,'" he added.
Jadeja explained that watching bowlers prepare to bat ahead of him often made him feel that the team did not have complete confidence in his batting.
"And in that same dressing room, a fast bowler is selecting the ball, thinking, 'Come on, now bowling is coming.' So because of all those things, my confidence was literally disturbed. I would think, 'Oh man, what is this? The team doesn't even have confidence in me?' So I have seen that in my early days, that I didn't get that number. Very low, many times I even went in to bat below Ashwin. So somewhere, all those things disturbed me," Jadeja revealed.
Jadeja's reflections came after India produced a dominant batting display on the opening day of the Test against Sri Lanka. India finished Day 1 on 288/2, putting themselves in a strong position after the rain-affected day's play. Devdutt Padikkal was the star of the day, scoring a magnificent unbeaten 131 to register his maiden Test century. KL Rahul also played a crucial knock of 77, while Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 27 at the close of play.

Varex Imaging Corporation (NASDAQ:VREX) surged 48.5% to $18.42 on August 10 after Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) agreed to acquire the X-ray technology company for $18.90 per share in cash. The offer represents a 52% premium to Varex's unaffected closing price and values the transaction at approximately $1.1 billion, including equity awards and net debt.
Teledyne shares slipped just 0.15%, suggesting investors did not view the premium as an immediate threat to shareholder value. Varex closed about 2.5% below the offer, representing approximately 2.6% upside to the deal price. The narrow spread shifts the debate from whether Varex Imaging Corporation (NASDAQ:VREX) was undervalued to whether Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) can earn an adequate return.
The strategic fit is visible. Varex Imaging Corporation (NASDAQ:VREX) fills specific gaps in Teledyne's imaging portfolio. Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) has cited anticipated synergies but has not quantified them or disclosed expected EPS accretion or return targets.
Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) is not paying primarily for Varex's current growth rate. It is acquiring technologies and customer relationships that could deepen its position across medical, security, and industrial imaging.
Varex produces X-ray tubes, flat-panel detectors, photon-counting detectors, high-voltage interconnects, and imaging software used by equipment manufacturers. These components support medical diagnostic systems, oncology equipment, cargo inspection, vehicle scanning, and industrial quality control.

DAKAR, Aug 14 (Reuters) - The Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo has spread to a sixth province, Bas-Uele, located in the northeast of the country, the communications ministry said on Friday, officially confirming a case discovered earlier.
Health authorities have identified a person who has died from Ebola in the provincial capital Buta, an official from the National Institute for Biomedical Research told Reuters on Thursday.
Bas-Uele wasn't previously affected by the virus. The new case raised fears that people who have been in contact with the patient may have also been infected.
Delayed detection, conflict and strained health services have helped the virus spread more rapidly than in previous outbreaks.
The latest report, published on the ministry's X account, said that the number of confirmed Ebola cases in Congo has increased to 4,665, including 2,184 deaths.

President Donald Trump scored a major legal victory Friday after a federal judge cleared the way for his administration to terminate temporary legal protections for thousands of Somali nationals living in the United States.
U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs in Boston lifted a stay that had prevented the Department of Homeland Security from terminating Somalia's Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation, citing a June Supreme Court ruling that sharply limited judicial review of similar administration actions.
The decision allows the Trump administration to move forward with ending TPS for Somalia, potentially exposing affected migrants who lack another lawful basis to remain in the U.S. to deportation.

Bella Ramsey spent many teenage years working with adults so never really went through the moody, rebellious phase often ****** ociated with being a teenager.
The British actor, who debuted in Game of Thrones aged 11 and uses they/them ****** ouns, says they had consciously decided not to behave like a stereotypical teenager after hearing criticisms from adults.
"I was like, I'm not going to be that."
So when Sunny Dancer, a film about a summer camp for young people affected by cancer, gave Ramsey seven weeks to experience teenage freedom, it was an opportunity to dive straight in.
"I got to be a teenager aged 21, which was brilliant," Ramsey tells BBC News. "It was really nice - and liberating."
