In December 2025, Enova announced it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Grasshopper Bancorp, the holding company for a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)-insured online lender Grasshopper Bank. Around that time, Enova submitted a clutch of applications to federal and state authorities for it to provide banking services as Grasshopper's would-be owner.
Enova said the decision was in the best interests of the company and its investors. It cited a lack of clarity in the authorization process as a roadblock for its ambition.

Sept 16 (Reuters) - Top U.S. banks raised their prime lending rate on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve lifted its benchmark interest rate, a move that would increase borrowing costs for consumers and businesses with loans.
Following the Fed's first rate hike since 2023, the prime rate of JPMorgan , Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, KeyCorp, Huntington Bancshares, Fifth Third Bancorp and Truist Financial from Thursday will rise to 7% from 6.75%.
The Fed raised rates by a quarter of a percentage point on Wednesday and flagged further increases in borrowing costs in the coming months as policymakers focus on addressing persistent inflation.
Shares of big banks ended lower amid broader weakness in U.S. stocks. BofA closed down 2.7%, Citi 2.4%, Wells Fargo 3%, and JPMorgan 1%. Morgan Stanley slipped 1.9% and Goldman Sachs fell 4%.
The prime rate, which follows the federal funds rate, is used by U.S. banks as a reference for setting rates on many financial products such as credit cards and personal loans.

Interested in Truist Financial Corporation? Here are five stocks we like better.
Truist will sell its $5.5 billion near-prime auto loan portfolio and exit its Regional Acceptance Corporation business, which was roughly break-even despite high loan yields. The transaction is expected to modestly improve earnings, tangible book value and credit metrics.
The bank reaffirmed its financial outlook, including third-quarter net interest income growth of about 1.5%, full-year growth of 1% to 1.5%, and its $5 billion share-repurchase plan. The sale is expected to generate approximately $950 million in capital but reduce net interest margin by 4 to 5 basis points.
New CEO Mike Lyons is accelerating a broader portfolio and capital-allocation review, with Truist emphasizing relationship banking, deposits, commercial lending, payments, wealth management and potentially credit cards, mortgages and home equity lending.

For the first half, the Composite returned 2.3%, versus 11.5% for the Index. The letter highlights that a significant portion of the shortfall occurred in April due to market dynamics and geopolitical events, with tech, particularly semiconductors, driving recent gains. Broyhill notes its lack of direct semiconductor exposure but acknowledges potential interest in the sector if opportunities arise, maintaining its investment philosophy focused on capital protection in fragile market conditions. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Broyhill **** et Management highlighted First Citizens BancShares, Inc. (NASDAQ:FCNCA). First Citizens BancShares, Inc. "First Citizens BancShares, Inc. (NASDAQ:FCNCA), initiated in June, is a well-run company which we believe to be undervalued and with catalysts on the horizon. The company has retired almost 20% of its Class A shares since July 2024, and inside its roughly $25 billion market capitalization sits a rail leasing fleet of approximately 128,000 cars valued by the market at bank multiples. Management has proven themselves highly competent and highly aligned with shareholders, with the Holding family in key executive positions, owning over 20% of the economics and controlling roughly half the vote through their Class B shares. Much of what we are waiting on has a date attached to it: two separations have completed, and Masco and First Citizens are retiring shares at a pace that improves per-share value whether or not the multiples change."

A federal appeals court ruled that a Texas woman can't sue two Santa Fe police officers who pinned her face down on a fire ant hill while she was handcuffed, causing her to receive hundreds of painful bites to her face.
In an August 6 opinion, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit reversed a lower court decision allowing Taylor Rogers' lawsuit against the City of Santa Fe and the two officers to move forward. Instead, the panel held that the officers were shielded from her claims under the doctrine of qualified immunity.
In a press conference last Friday, Rogers' attorney, Randy Kallinen, criticized the ruling.
"The United States 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is out of touch with the Constitution and the public, granting police immunity in the most egregious of cases," Kallinen said. "The people need to elect officials who will nominate and affirm judges loyal to the Constitution."
Kallinen told The Daily News that he has requested an en banc hearing for the full 15-member 5th Circuit to review the case, and he'll petition the Supreme Court for review if that fails.

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK, Sept 4 (Reuters) - The White House has reviewed candidates to potentially replace Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg, three people familiar with the discussions told Reuters, a sign that more leadership change could come for a Pentagon already facing unusually high staff turnover.
The effort, which was under way in June, has included conversations with senior lawmakers in the Senate about whether the administration's picks would have enough support to be confirmed, said two of the people, one of whom added that the review was still going on as of late August. Reuters could not determine when the White House began considering candidates.
The three sources said no decision had been made to remove Feinberg from his post. They did not say why the White House was reviewing potential replacements and did not specify which candidates the White House was considering.
"These so-called anonymous 'sources' have no idea what they are talking about," said White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly.

TFC and USB pay the same $0.52 quarterly dividend, but TFC's has been frozen for 4 years while USB guides to another ~4% raise in Q3 2026.
Truist is returning over 100% of earnings to shareholders via a $5 billion buyback program, explicitly sidelining per-share dividend growth.
Just released. Our **** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
Two of America's largest regional banks just paid shareholders the exact same dividend. Truist Financial (NYSE:TFC) sent investors $0.52 per share on September 1, 2026, matching to the penny the $0.52 per share U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) distributed on July 15, 2026. Identical payments, similar business models, same sector. The similarity ends there. One of these dividends is quietly accelerating. The other has been frozen for four years.
The starting point for any dividend comparison is yield, and here Truist wins on the surface. With shares trading at $50.74 and an annualized forward payout of $2.08, TFC yields roughly 4.1%. U.S. Bancorp, at $62.35 with the same $2.08 annualized, yields closer to 3.3%.

As the 2026-27 NBA season approaches this fall, Bleacher Report released an interesting list, as they ranked the best players by each age. Unexpectedly, there were multiple Houston Rockets players who earned that distinction.
Beginning with the more surprising of the two, Amen Thompson was named as the league's best 23-year-old. Last season, Thompson took a huge jump, playing 79 games and averaging a career-high 18.3 points to go along with 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 ******* ists, 1.5 steals and 0.6 blocks. Although he was snubbed from an All-Defensive selection, Thompson did finish eighth in Defensive Player of Year Award voting. Other notable 23-year-olds that Thompson was selected over include Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero and Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller.
As readers may have expected, Kevin Durant (age 37) was the other Rockets forward listed, as Alperen Sengun fell short to Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham among players at the age of 24. A season ago, Durant averaged 26 points per game, tying him for 10th in the league. He also averaged 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 ******* ists, 0.8 steals and 0.9 blocks. James Harden, a former MVP in Houston, was the only other 37-year-old in the same realm as Durant, averaging 23.6 points and eight ******* ists between the Clippers and Cavaliers.

Famous Dex is once again behind bars, this time in Las Vegas on a domestic battery charge.
The Chicago rapper, whose legal name is Dexter Tiewon Gore Jr., was taken into custody Sunday, Aug. 23, and booked on the charge, according to TMZ. As of Tuesday (Aug. 25), he remained in custody at a Las Vegas jail.
The arrest marks a troubling reversal for an artist who had spoken publicly about getting his life in order. As recently as April 2023, Dex told TMZ he was 11 months sober and announced a collaborative album, Rich Forever 5, alongside Rich The Kid and Jay Critch.
The latest charge arrives years after a string of serious legal troubles in California. In late 2020, Dex allegedly physically harmed a woman in October of that year and was involved in a separate November incident in which police responding to a domestic disturbance found a woman with cuts and confronted Dex after he allegedly barricaded himself inside with firearms, prompting a SWAT standoff. Combined with the 2016 emergence of security footage reportedly showing him hitting his girlfriend in a hallway, the three incidents resulted in a total of 19 charges, including domestic violence and gun possession counts. The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office had indicated he faced up to 18 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Celtic and Rangers have both been directed to stage their next home games in the Scottish Cup without spectators following last season's Old Firm quarter-final, which was marred by crowd disturbances.
The two clubs could face a second home game behind closed doors should there be another incident where either club's followers participate in "unacceptable conduct" during a Scottish Cup tie.
The sanction will likely take effect when both teams enter this season's Scottish Cup at the fourth-round stage, which is set for mid-January. Celtic and Rangers will each be required to pay £100,000 (just over $135,000) to the opponent they are paired with in that round, as per The Mirror.

On August 19, 2026, Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA) and Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) said that their personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, combined with Merck's Keytruda, met its main goals in a first-ever Phase 3 trial for melanoma. The news sent Moderna shares up as much as 177%, adding $44 billion to its market value, while Merck shares rose more than 12% to an all-time high.
This is the first personalized cancer vaccine to succeed at the late-stage trial level, a milestone Moderna has pursued for years after its Covid-19 vaccine business faded. The stock became the most shorted in the S&P 500.
Does this trial genuinely validate personalized cancer vaccines as a new class of medicine, or is the market's reaction running ahead of data the companies haven't even fully released yet?
Breakthrough Results vs. Unreleased Data: The Moderna Debate
The combination, involving Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA)'s vaccine intismeran autogene and Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK)'s Keytruda, extended the time patients lived without their melanoma returning. It reduced the risk of cancer spreading, building on earlier data showing a 49% reduction in recurrence or death risk and a 59% reduction in distant metastasis risk compared with Keytruda alone. Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel called it validation of "an entirely new class of medicine." TD Cowen ******* ysts called it "a landmark moment" and expect regulatory approval as soon as next year. Even after the surge, Moderna trades at less than a third of its 2021 peak. Rezilient Health's Dr. Danish Nagda argued the platform remains undervalued given the potential to extend the approach to other cancers.

The NBA is stacked with a whole generation of rising young stars, and Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero is one of them. In just four seasons with the Magic, he has proven himself as their most important player with a solid all-around game and consistent, mature leadership on the floor.
Despite his star status, Paolo has never been marketed or celebrated the same way as some of his peers, and we're finally understanding why. With a special mention to Zion Williamson and Cooper Flagg (fellow No. 1 overall picks), Banchero explained how the COVID-19 pandemic forever changed his standing across the league, and how it has yet to fully recover.
"Both of them (Zion and Flagg) are great players, and all the hype they get is very warranted. I think my situation was a lot different," said Paolo on 'Dawg Talk'. "I came up during COVID, and I think that had a big effect. I didn't get a senior year of High School, really. My whole senior year of High School was online. High School was shut down. No one from my class really got that hype. It was Chet and I really, but COVID kind of clouded all that. We didn't get a McDonald's All-American Game."
Paolo was part of the 2022 draft class, being selected with the first overall pick. Coming from Duke, public opinion was high on Banchero, but not nearly to the degree it usually is for No. 1 picks. Zion Williamson and Anthony Edwards, for example, were the top selections leading up to Paolo's class, and both were treated like future MVP candidates.
Paolo, too, might have gotten a similar treatment had the COVID shutdowns never transpired. His draft class was the most affected by the pandemic, having their senior year shut down and their college season headlined by a raging health crisis. Paolo never got to play in the famed All-American game, and it's just one of the many experiences he missed out on during his transition to the league.

NEW YORK (AP) — In the opening scene of American writer Kim Stanley Robinson's "The Ministry for the Future," a heat wave combined with a breakdown of the electrical grid in India kills 20 million people. The devastation causes the world's nations to unite to combat climate change.
Scientists have long warned that the world will experience more intense extreme weather events like heat waves, storms, floods and droughts. But what once seemed like the realm of fiction is now discussed as a possibility, even an inevitability.
Warning about an "extreme of extremes" or the "Other Big One," a play off the California reference of a big future earthquake, can be fraught. After all, ***** ody can say for sure when a weather catastrophe may happen. But in the last few years, the planetary ingredients needed for a massive disturbance have been building. And alarm is growing.
"The risk is that people just think you are exaggerating," said Daniel Swain, a climate scientist with the California Institute for Water Resources. "It's the 'Boy Who Cried Wolf' problem. Sometimes wolves are real. If it's outside the door, wouldn't you want to know?"
In the 1850s, while living in Seneca Falls, New York, amateur scientist Eunice Newton Foote did a series of experiments that put different substances, including carbon dioxide and moist air, inside glass cylinders and left them in the sun. What she found was extraordinary: cylinders with carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that is released when coal, gas or oil is burned, heated up faster and took longer to cool after the sun went down.
