The coverage is designed to address a growing category of freight fraud involving double brokering, carrier identity theft and fictitious pickups. Under the partnership, brokers using Verified Carrier can purchase MiKargo247 spot cargo insurance and have the strategic theft exclusion removed when the load is hauled by an eligible verified carrier. The companies announced the partnership Sept. 1.
Strategic cargo theft accounted for about 30% of reported U.S. cargo theft incidents in 2025, according to a June report from Munich Re Specialty and BSI Consulting. The report found that criminals are increasingly using deception, impersonation and other fraud-based methods to obtain freight rather than relying solely on physically stealing cargo from trucks or facilities.
The shift creates a challenge for brokers and insurers because fraudulent actors can make it difficult to determine who is actually hauling a load.
The FBI warned in April that cyber-enabled strategic cargo theft is increasing, with criminals using compromised accounts, fictitious companies and double-brokering schemes to divert legitimate freight. The Justice Department has charged dozens of people for suspected fraud related to the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in losses, U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said Tuesday.
Speaking with reporters in the White House Rose Garden, Blanche said that between mid-June and September, federal prosecutors from across the country helped facilitate the arrests of 160 criminal defendants, including around 80 who were newly charged over suspected COVID fraud in Missouri and neighboring states.
The suspected crimes involved more than $245 million in losses, Blanche said.

"NAZA", directed by Israeli journalists Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday and received a 25-minute standing ovation when it was screened on Thursday.
The film takes its **** le from an Israeli military term for expected "collateral casualties" and is built around anonymous interviews with intelligence officers and soldiers involved in the war.

White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed on "The Sunday Briefing" that the Department of Homeland Security is looking into allegations involving Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., but would not disclose details about what he described as an "ongoing criminal investigation."
Pressed on whether the federal government has evidence that Omar committed immigration or naturalization fraud, Homan declined to comment.

"This is a political decision, and I have made it consciously. I do not want the position of Prosecutor General to be used as an instrument of political confrontation," Ruslan Kravchenko said in a statement on Telegram late on Monday, without elaborating.
Kravchenko thanked President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, and asked them to accept his resignation.

Orionx, a crypto trading exchange backed by the stablecoin giant Tether, announced on Sep. 3 that it is shutting down after an audit discovered a gap in client ******* ets worth $7 million.
A Chilean exchange, Orionx revealed that a forensic audit confirmed a transfer of ******* ets worth more than $7 million held in custody to wallets not administered by the company.

The exchange said it filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office for an investigation and filed a criminal lawsuit against co-founders Joaquín Díaz and Roberto Zibert.
Orionx said its sole priority right now is to work toward returning the largest possible amount of their ******* ets to the clients in the fastest and fairest way possible. It said it has already reported the ******* et closure and restitution plan to the authorities, with the first phase currently under implementation.
