The San Francisco Giants are going to be trade deadline sellers this season, and there are plenty of interesting names worth considering at this year's deadline from the Giants' roster.
Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray are the two headliners as rental options, but Heliot Ramos is another player who could fetch some legitimate trade interest. However, the Giants might also entertain trade offers on some expensive veterans this summer.
For MLB insider Andy McCullough of The Athletic, he would be "shocked" if the Giants traded $313.5 million slugger Rafael Devers at the trade deadline for a simple reason: his contract.
"I would be absolutely shocked - shocked! - if the Giants could move Devers' contract," McCullough writes.

"Now, after both an offensive resurgence and defensive revival at second base, virtually every contender is showing interest in trading for Arraez, according to a person briefed on the Giants' discussions," Sammon and Rosenthal report.

The New York Yankees offense is struggling right now, and Cody Bellinger's injury only makes things worse.
The Yankees are currently without Aaron Judge, Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton. On top of that, they seem to have no actual solution for third base and shortstop, where Anthony Volpe and Ryan McMahon continue to struggle. Knowing Judge, Bellinger and Stanton could return soon, the Yankees are unlikely to add a superstar outfielder or designated hitter. However, adding an infielder could do wonders for the offense if that infielder were Luis Arraez.
Luckily for the Yankees, the San Francisco Giants will be sellers at the deadline, and Arraez is a rental they could look to deal away. He is hitting .326 with an .811 OPS on the year. He has improved his slugging while maintaining a high average. Not to mention, he is having an elite year defensively at second base. Defense was always seen as a downside for Arraez, but that is not the case this year.
How would Arraez fit in on the Yankees? Well, for starters, he would slot in at second base. That would allow the Yankees to move Chisholm to third base or shortstop, getting rid of either Volpe or McMahon as a regular. McMahon has already started to lose at-bats, so perhaps it's time the Yankees make a permanent change.

The Rangers have been trying to recapture the glory they achieved in 2023 for the past three years now.
While this season hasn't been the roaring success that 2023 was, the Rangers find themselves in a very interesting spot, sitting atop the American League West post-All-Star break.
With the rest of the AL West under .500, the Rangers are in a position where they can add at the deadline and get into the postseason as the winner of a weaker division. If they can get in, anything can happen from there.

The Boston Red Sox ripped off a 15-game win streak, tying a franchise record, before losing Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Regardless, their 15-1 run has them at 52-49 and in wild-card position. The win streak has saved the season, because if they had waited another week or so to heat up, they may have been sellers at the deadline. Instead, they are now expected to fill their needs at the deadline and set themselves up for a run.
"The Red Sox look to be headed for the buyer’s lane in light of their recent surge, which has been one of the best in team history," wrote MLB.com's Ian Browne on Thursday. "Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow is in the market for a bat. The question is: What position will that bat play? Catcher, middle infield and DH seem to be the best fits lineup-wise."
If Breslow wants a bat like Browne suggests, he could have his pick. Plenty of star hitters could be on the move this year, and the Red Sox have pieces to give up if they need to. Adding a middle infielder like Luis Arraez could be great for the Red Sox considering Marcelo Mayer's injury and woes at the plate.

Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray are clearly going to be on the block, with both likely to be dealt. But the Giants also want to trade away their expensive veterans, making over $100 million, but that's not going to be easy.
That is, except for one $113 million outfielder, Jung Hoo Lee, who, according to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan, should have a strong market at the MLB trade deadline.
"While the Giants' desire to dump their high-profile players with high-priced contracts will run into plenty of resistance, they should be able to cobble together a market if they really are interested in moving Lee," Passan and McDaniel write.

PHILADELPHIA — Willson Contreras, for better or worse, leaves all his emotions on the baseball field.
For two days at the 96th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, it made for fantastic entertainment as the passion of the Philadelphia fan was no match for the Venezuelan All-Star from the Boston Red Sox.
Heck, Contreras did not find a man on the field he could not hug during the Tuesday, July 14 game at Citizens Bank Park. He engulfed home plate umpire Alan Porter in a hug. Ran directly at San Francisco Giants second baseman Luis Arraez after a force out – and then wrapped his countryman in a warm embrace.
And, perhaps most poignantly, shared the field with brother William – yes, they hugged at home plate – for the first time in an All-Star Game.
A night earlier, Contreras successfully met the challenge of the Philly fan, advancing past the first round of the Home Run Derby while hometown favorite Bryce Harper was eliminated. Come Tuesday night’s introductions, the crowd at the Bank roared thunderous boos on Contreras, who cupped his hand to his ear.

San Francisco gained a four-game split and entered the All-Star break fourth in the NL West at 41-55. The Giants have won 21 of their past 23 home games against Colorado and are 36-7 in San Francisco against the Rockies since 2021.
Colorado has lost four of five and is a National League-worst 39-59. The Rockies are 17-34 on the road.
McCarthy, who had an inside-the-park homer off Pittsburgh's Paul Skenes at Coors Field on June 20, drove Trevor McDonald's second pitch of the game on a bounce to the 415-foot sign in right-center field. The ball bounced away from right fielder Jung Hoo Lee and McCarthy slid home ahead of an off-line relay throw from second baseman Luis Arraez for his 10th home run this season.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Casey Schmitt, Bryce Eldridge and Willy Adames homered to back rookie Carson Whisenhunt and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 8-2 on Thursday night to start a four-game series.
Whisenhunt (2-0) allowed two runs on three hits in 5 2/3 innings in his second start this season and the seventh of his career. He struck out four and walked four, throwing 57 of 87 pitches for strikes.
JT Brubacker retired all four batters he faced before Erik Miller struck out two in a scoreless eighth. Caleb Kilian fanned two in the ninth to finish.
Schmitt hit his 18th homer — a two-out shot off Ryan Feltner (3-3) for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. He had an RBI double after a two-out bases-empty single by Luis Arraez to ignite a four-run eighth against reliever TJ Shook. Rafael Devers added a ground-rule RBI double in front of Adames' 15th homer to cap the rally.
Eldridge became the first Giant this season to hit a home run into McCovey Cove, tying it 2-2 in the fourth with his eighth of the season.

Arraez is on an expiring contract, and the Giants are expected to be sellers. It would make little sense for San Francisco to hold onto the three-time batting champion when they can get something of value in return.
On paper, Arraez is having a great year at the plate. But Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller points to something that may catch the attention of other clubs and become a problem for the Giants.
"However, he [Arraez] is defying his expected numbers like never before in his career, and a new team might be left holding the bag if he starts to regress in a big way," Miller wrote.

The San Francisco Giants are looking more and more likely to be trade deadline sellers as the season moves along. The rumor mill has been rampant lately, indicating Buster Posey is open to selling some of the team's players.
While the question of whether the Giants will be buyers or sellers appears to be answered, the new question is about who could be on the move. Rental options are clear trade chips this season, but there are a lot of other interesting names worth mentioning.
Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer revealed the Giants' top-10 trade chips, all of which make sense as options to be moved. But there is one interesting problem, and it revolves around $113 million outfielder Jung Hoo Lee.
"Their Best Trade Chips: 1B/DH Rafael Devers, SS Willy Adames, 3B Matt Chapman, RF Jung Hoo Lee, 2B Luis Arraez, LHP Robbie Ray," Rymer writes. "... And out of these names, Lee is the only one who isn't either A) an albatross or B) a free-agent-to-be."

Entering the season, I would guess that Paul Toboni fully anticipated being sellers at the trade deadline. However, year one under this new regime has exceeded all expectations. The Nats are currently 39-36 and tied for the third wild card spot. This could create a conundrum for the Nats new President of Baseball Operations at the August 3rd trade deadline.
Yesterday, Jeff Passan released an article ranking trade candidates and also listed some potential suitors. There were 100 names on the list, but he only gave a suitor list for the first 25. The Nats were listed as a potential fit for Joe Ryan, Reid Detmers, Jose Soriano, Luis Arraez and Matt Chapman. With that news out there, this could turn out to be a very entertaining deadline.
The last time the Nats were buyers was all the way back in 2019, when Mike Rizzo patched up a leaky bullpen. Since then, the Nats have still been very active at trade deadlines, but they have been selling pieces off instead of buying.
We still have a long way to go before August 3rd, but the fact the Nats are listed as potential buyers is exciting. Unsurprisingly, almost all of the names listed as fits for the Nats have team control beyond 2026. The only rental listed is Luis Arraez, who seems like an unlikely target to me.
In my opinion, the cleanest fits for the Nats are either of the two Angels pitchers. Reid Detmers and Jose Soriano would both slide into the top of the Nats rotation alongside Cade Cavalli. Both have premium stuff and are under control for two years after this one. If the Nats want to maximize CJ Abrams, who is on the same timeline, these would be fun fits.

Giants left-hander Matt Gage (right knee inflammation) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and gave up a two-run homer to Mauricio Dubón in the ninth. Gage gave up two more hits. Right-hander Tristan Beck overcame a run-scoring wild pitch to record the final two outs for his first save.

The Giants' 27-year-old right fielder extended Major League Baseball's longest active hitting streak to 12 games in San Francisco's 12-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, June 4. Lee's streak is also a career-best for the third-year major leaguer.
Lee had four hits on Thursday against the Brewers. He finished the game batting 4-of-5 with three runs scored and a RBI.
Lee now has 67 hits this season, tied for 10th in the MLB. His teammate Luis Arraez is second in the league with 76 hits. Lee also has a .322 average, .356 OBP and .803 OPS, all currently above his career averages.
