The Twins went with an opener tonight, Andrew Morris got the first inning with Connor Prielipp taking over from there. It worked out well, as you can see from the score in the ***** le, as the Tigers only managed one run in the first, with Prielipp shutting them out in his five innings tonight.
Kody Clemens wasted no time tying the game up with his 24th homer of the year, a solo shot to right in the bottom of the first inning.
Tigers' starter Troy Melton held the Twins in check until the fifth inning. A walk and a double put two in scoring position for Walker Jenkins. He grounded into the drawn-in infield, Trevor Larnach got into a run-down going home, and the catcher threw it into left field allowing 2 to score on the error. Luke Keaschall put the Twins up 4-1 with an RBI double, capping off a 3 run inning.
Then the Twins scored 10 in the 6th, starting with an out. It went something like this unreadable sentence:
Josh Bell single, Larnach hit by pitch, Royce Lewis three run homer, Kaelen Culpepper double, Walker Jenkins walk, Keaschall single, Brooks Lee sac-fly-RBI, Kody Clemens walk, Ryan Jeffers three run homer, Josh Bell walk, Trevor Larnach single, Royce Lewis single, Kaelen Culpepper 2 run single, and finally Jenkins grounded out to end the inning. That monster inning put the Twins up 14-1, which is a pretty comfortable place to be in a baseball game, I feel.

Know Yo' Foe: Bless You Boys
The Twins' postseason hopes aren't dead yet, but a disastrous 8-17 August has put them firmly as a long shot. They are only four games out of a playoff spot, but teams like the Guardians, Blue Jays, and Orioles are trending in the right direction while the Twins and Mariners fade out of the picture.
At this point, the Twins need to pivot to 2027 evaluation mode and if a few bonus wins come, all the better. Walker Jenkins and Kaelen Culpepper should be in the lineup nearly every day from here on out, Gabriel Gonzalez should see every possible PA against lefties, and Emmanuel Rodriguez and Alan Roden likely need to start taking playing time away from Trevor Larnach and Josh Bell when rosters expand tomorrow.
Part of the issue recent Twins teams have run into is simply not knowing whether certain young players are truly ready to take on a bigger role, and they can't afford that heading into 2027 on a team in need of upgrades in both the lineup and pitching staff.
Speaking of pitching, after 2027, Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez, Dean Kremer, and Bailey Ober are all free agents. Connor Prielipp and Zebby Matthews have shown flashes of brilliance this season, while Mick Abel and Kendry Rojas will be back from injury with nothing left to prove in AAA, to say nothing of pitching prospects like Riley Quick, Ryan Gallagher, and Adrian Bohorquez who will likely be ready at different points next season. Jeremy Zoll and Co. will need to sort through who of that group is worth keeping, who should be traded, who could thrive in the bullpen, and who (looking at you, Ober) maybe shouldn't be tendered a contract at all.

Padres 6, Twins 2
SAN DIEGO — The fifth-inning rally that spelled the beginning of the Twins' demise on Friday night started innocently, with Austin Hays sending a softly-hit ground ball to wardsBrooks Lee at third for an infield single.
After retiring a batter, Connor Prielipp walked Jake Cronenworth on six pitches, and from there, the Padres were off.
"I lost command for a little bit and then kind of got singled to death for a little bit," Prelipp said. "They were able to capitalize."
That they were.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Alec Bohm had five hits, Jesús Luzardo pitched 6 2/3 dominant innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Minnesota Twins 9-1 on Saturday night.
Bohm doubled in the second, fourth and ninth innings and singled in the fifth and seventh for his first career five-hit game.
Bryce Harper had two hits and Bryson Stott homered for the Phillies.
Luzardo (11-5) struck out nine and walked two while allowing just one run to continue his outstanding season. The first-time All-Star has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 15 of his last 17 starts dating to late April.
Connor Prielipp (4-5) allowed eight runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out six over five innings.

In a game that definitely needed to be consumed, and then recapped, the Philadelphia Phillies continued their late-summer dominance of the Twins with a decisive 9-1 victory, headlined by Philly's seven-run, fifth-inning explosion.
As we were reminded in the pregame, the American League Wild Card situation is a bit of a cluster, especially with midgame victories by both the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles making it a five-way tie for the sixth seed. But as the Twins enter into direct competition with some clearer playoff hopefuls — the Phillies, while technically out of the mix due to an unresolved tiebreak, are still eight games over .500 — the plausibility of this Minnesota roster meaningfully competing with some of their fringe peers is called into question.
The Fightin' Phils fought their way onto the scoreboard first today, scoring Luis Arraez on a J.T. Realmuto sacrifice fly in an inning that could have been worse for Minnesota starter Connor Prielipp.
Prielipp, clearly, was struck with intense FOMO, and he unleashed his desire to see an inning that could have been worse first-hand in the fifth. With a lone runner at first base and two quick outs, Prielipp lost all grip on reality and walked Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Arraez, the last of whom pushed across a run as he filled first. That made it 2-0 Phillies, but the score was quickly 3-0 after Alec Bohm drove an RBI single — one of five hits on the night for Bohm — to increase the lead.
Then, a two-run single from Edmundo Sosa, opening things up to 5-0, a deflating but still reachable deficit. That is, until a three-run bomb by Bryson Stott — still off Prielipp, mind you! — effectively put the game to bed before the halfway mark.

The Twins have had a full Friday off to wash their nationally-televised Field of Dreams performance out of their mouths, and recenter focus onto the reality that they've still got two home games left against a strong opponent with playoff hopes. As Connor Prielipp takes the mound this evening, he does so for a team tied for the final Wild Card; with the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers both losing already today, it's a three-way, 60-63 tie for one playoff position.
If you'd asked me months ago, or truly even a few weeks ago, I'd have sure bet a lot of money that the Wild Card race would have separated itself by now. Sub-.500 playoff hopefuls are only really in the race for as long as it takes until a random team finally has a dominant two weeks. And yet, it's mid-August, and that still hasn't happened. The Twins, Tigers, Rangers, Blue Jays, Orioles, and Guardians all have nearly identical records, but none of the above have been able to take the reins, climb over .500, and create actual separation. In three weeks' time, the playoff picture might look obvious. For now, it's the same muddled mess it's been all year, and while the vibes haven't been spectacular in Minnesota lately, the Twins could end the evening alone in a playoff position.

The Milwaukee Brewers close out their homestand in position to secure a series victory over the Minnesota Twins at American Family Field on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 9.
Right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (11-5, 1.63) makes his first start in a week for the Brewers and will be opposed by Twins left-hander (and Tomah product) Connor Prielipp (3-5, 4.75).
Milwaukee's lineup has undergone some shuffling today with Joey Ortiz (neck) and Cooper Pratt (hamstring) both dealing with injuries.
As a result, Andrew Vaughn makes his first start at third base and David Hamilton his first start at shortstop.
The team also signed infielder-outfielder Jihwan Bae to a minor-league contract and added him to the taxi squad as insurance.

It was about as rough of a first inning as possible for rookie Connor Prielipp. Second baseman Cole Young doubled on Prielipp's first pitch of the game, and then he walked the next two Mariners on nine total pitches to load the bases with no outs. Julio Rodriguez then singled on the first pitch HE saw and it was 1-0 Seattle before Prielipp even worked up a sweat. He walked in one more run a few batters later, but the young lefty struckout the side in the midst of all this chaos to limit the damage.
Seattle got one more in the second inning thanks to a solo homer by Randy Arozarena to make it 3-0, but from there, Prielipp was completely locked in. It took him 55 pitches to get through the first two innings, and then 33 to finish the next 3.1 frames. That's the exact kind of development you want to see from a rookie starting pitcher and why so many people within the Twins are high on his long term outlook. The Mariners did mount another threat in the fifth inning with two men on and one out, but Prielipp successfully worked his way out of that jam and got Josh Naylor to start the sixth for a cherry on top.
On the other half of the game, the Twins had yet another slow start against an opposing starter. If it feels like Minnesota has been playing from behind often you'd be correct. Setting aside the three and four error slop-filled games last week, the Twins have scored just eight total runs in first five innings of games since the All-Star Break. They've taken the first lead in just two of those games as well. It was more of the same against Logan Gilbert and Seattle today.
The Twins had just one hit and baserunner through the first four innings before a Luke Keaschall solo shot got rid of the goose egg on the scoreboard. Trevor Larnach added a bomb of his own in the sixth, and then the Twins played some good small following a Brooks Lee leadoff double and finally worked their way to a 3-3 tie. Minnesota then had a great opportunity to take the lead in the eighth with two runners in scoring position and one out, but Kody Clemens and Royce Lewis struck out to end the threat.
Then, a weird ninth inning happened. With Andrew Morris in to try to send things to extras, Arozarena led things off of with a sharp double and advanced to third on a fly ball. Morris then intentionally walked Julio Rodriguez to put runners on the corners with one out. The Twins brought the infield in for Cal Raleigh, hoping to either get the runner at home or set up a quick double play, and they got exactly what they needed with a hard ground ball hit directly to Royce Lewis at first. Lewis, still fairly new to the position, went to step on first base, but seemed to realize the problem with that mid-play, as you can see below.

As announced by the program, Alabama baseball's Bryce Fowler and Hagan Banks have signed with the Minnesota Twins.
A pair of redshirt seniors on Alabama's CWS team this past spring, both of Fowler and Banks were not selected in the 2026 MLB draft, and will now begin their professional career's in the minor leagues of Minnesota's organization.
Fowler joined the Crimson Tide prior to the 2025 season from Pearl River Community College, and went on to start during both seasons in Tuscaloosa as one of Alabama's top defensive players. Across his 121 games played, Fowler slashed a combined .294/.397/.442 with 13 home runs, 83 RBI, and 27 stolen bases, while also leading the Crimson Tide with a .320 batting average this past spring.
Banks spent all five seasons of his collegiate career in Tuscaloosa from 2022-26, emerging as Alabama's closer this past spring. The right-hander made 63 career appearances for Alabama over that span with seven starts, posting a combined 3-4 record with a 3.59 ERA, a 105:33 K:BB ratio, and six saves across 95.1 innings pitched.
Other former Alabama players currently in the Twins' organization include pitchers Connor Prielipp, Riley Quick, Hunter Hoopes, and Jonathan Stevens.

Both starter Connor Prielipp and reliever Travis Adams were doing alright… until they weren’t. Some bad defense didn’t help, either! Inning-by-inning notes:
1: Oops Byron. We still love you, but oops. He hits one to left and admires it for a sec; it hits the wall and THEN Bux turns on the speed. He’s thrown out at second.
The Dbacks have their City Connect jerseys on (or their normal alternates, I do not know), and they’re a dark purplish-blue. They look like something that would glow under a black light. They manage a walk and an infield hit, but Connor Prielipp gets the ground ball third out. This time.
2: Weird. Starter Michael Soroka has to leave; something in his leg is bothering him. Hopefully it’s not the same stuff he had trouble with in 2020-2022.
RHP Taylor Clarke in; he’s part of a Very Good Dbacks bullpen. Well-struck ***** by Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee end up in fantastic catches by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Corbin Carroll (no relation to former Twin Jamie). Victor Caratini hit a solo shot, though! Not the guy you’d expect! We’ll take it.

The White Sox have lost back-to-back games to the Twins, falling 6-4 tonight. Davis Martin fought with his command all night, unable to make it through five innings. While the offense didn’t provide, the poor pitching performance certainly was a catalyst for a tough loss. The bullpen took control in the late innings, but loading the bases and leaving them stranded moments later also hurt the momentum this team carried into Minnesota.
There was not much action in the game until the third inning, just a pair of Twins singles that went nowhere. Connor Prielipp gave up a leadoff walk to Luisangel Acuña in the third, who stole second and third before reaching home on a throwing error, putting the first run of the game on the board. With one out, Chase Meidroth singled, and Randal Grichuk followed up with a double. Miguel Vargas would be the decision-maker, plating two runs with a single. Edgar Quero also singled, but two outs would quickly follow, including an unfortunate two-out bunt decision from Derek Hill.
Martin would also face a little trouble on the base paths in the bottom of the third. Tristan Gray singled and advanced on a questionable balk call. Alex Jackson singled, and Brooks Lee’s sac fly would send a run in. Martin was able to work through the rest of the inning, only giving up the one run despite some sloppy defense from his teammates.
Martin struggled again in the bottom of the fourth. Trevor Larnach doubled, and he gave up a walk to Austin Martin. Luke Keaschall doubled, giving the Twins another run with two on base and only one out. Gray gave the Twins the lead with an RBI single, sending in two runs before then getting to second base. Gray stole third and got home after a single from Jackson. Another base hit, this time from Byron Buxton, would get the bullpen stirring after Martin surrendered five hits in the inning. A double play would thankfully end any additional threat.
The Twins kept the White Sox in check for two straight innings, and Martin continued to wrestle with his command. Despite starting the fifth with a strikeout, he gave up back-to-back walks right after. Those free passes would haunt him when Keaschall singled, and Sam Antonacci couldn’t get the ball home in time. After the run, Martin stepped out for Sean Newcomb to take over and end the fifth. Alas, the Twins were up 6-3.
