Hannes Steinbach (No. 14 overall) is a native of Germany, playing for their national team. As for Christian Anderson, although he's a native of Atlanta, Georgia, he also plays for the German national team and holds dual citizenship between both America and Germany.
Although they played for two different colleges (Washington and Texas Tech), this adds a level of familiarity for one another as they enter the league together with Charlotte. Following his selection, Anderson expressed confidence in himself and Steinbach as a duo, saying, "It's going to be a day one connection; ain't no better connection in the draft. I'm just ready to get to work." While it has yet to be seen in the NBA, some could argue that Steinbach and Anderson have a deeper connection than some college teammates, having spent three years together as part of Germany's U19 team.
The Hornets enacted a similar strategy at last year's NBA Draft, selecting Duke teammates Kon Knueppel and Sion James, as both selections worked out quite well for the franchise.

Cris Cyborg’s legendary mixed martial arts (MMA) career is coming to an end.
The Professional Fighters League (PFL) Featherweight champion will compete in her final MMA fight in the main event of PFL Tampa on Sat., Aug. 22, 2026, when she takes on former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Ketlen Vieira inside Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Cyborg (29-2) is riding a nine-fight win streak and was last in action against Sara Collins, whom she submitted to win the vacant PFL Featherweight championship (watch highlights).
Prior to that, Cyborg defeated Larissa Pacheco via unanimous decision to become the only MMA fighter in history to become a quintuple champion, having captured world ****** les across five major MMA promotions.
In addition to her MMA run, Cyborg has also started boxing and currently holds a 7-0 professional boxing record with five stoppage wins.

Cristiano Ronaldo finally found the back of the net at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.
Ronaldo scored twice in Portugal’s 5-0 win over Uzbekistan after going scoreless in Portugal’s first group stage match against Congo on June 17.
“I knew that God helps those who work. I knew my teammates were going to help as well,” he said in his post-match interview.
Ronaldo’s performance and inability to score in the 1-1 draw against Congo drew scrutiny online, having come just a day after both Norway’s Erling Haaland and France’s Kylian Mbappé scored braces and Argentina’s Lionel Messi scored his first-ever World Cup hat trick.

Once the knockout stages begin, each match can be a country's last, so anything can happen. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will look a little different than previous installments.
Starting with the size of the field.
For this year’s World Cup, the field expanded to 48 nations, up from the previous number of 32. This means the field is divided into 12 four-team groups, and it also means that the knockout stage begins with the round of 32, and not the round of 16, as in previous World Cups.
That also means that teams that finish in third place in a group could still advance.
To complete the round of 32, in addition to the top two teams from each group, the eight best third-place teams will move on as well.

"Los Angeles Dodgers (51-29): They'll get Rico Garcia from the Orioles," Rymer predicts. "Even though he's 32, his club control elevates his value, but probably not to a point where the Dodgers would have to subtract a top-10 prospect from their No. 1-ranked farm system."

The group stage of World Cup 2026 is nearing a conclusion and the battle is on for a place in knockout stages.
For the first time in the World Cup’s history, 48 nations are competing in the tournament. They were divided into 12 groups of four, with co-hosts USA, Mexico and Canada all given top-seed status in the draw.
The 12 group winners and 12 runners-up will automatically go through to the round of 32, and they will be joined by the eight best third-placed finishers, based on points and goal difference at the end of the group stage.
Seven teams have booked their place in the knockout rounds after winning both of their opening matches. Five teams have so far been eliminated from the competition after losing both of their fixtures.
In total, 16 nations will go home after the group stage.

His quick release and elite separation against some of the top secondary units in the country earned him the high overall in the new college football video game.

As usual, the Coppa Italia format features single-leg matches up to the quarter-finals, with the semi-finals played over two legs.
The final is scheduled for Wednesday, 19 May 2027.

The Denver Nuggets were supposed to have an uneventful first night of the NBA Draft. Armed with the No. 26 overall pick, ahead of a pivotal summer where they will try to retool around a trimmer Nikola Jokić, no one expected much of any draft night fireworks for the NBA's resident Colorado team. It was supposed to be a quiet night.
And when the Nuggets traded out of the first round for a small horde of second-round draft selections, it seemed like a quiet Denver night was exactly what we were going to get. Uh, we were wrong on this front, to say the least.
When ESPN footage panned to the Nuggets' draft room after they traded their pick, we saw Denver owner Josh Kroenke standing in front of his employees as a few clapped. Based on contextual body language from the clip, it appeared that Kroenke wasn't very happy. But it's unclear why:
If I had to guess, Kroenke miming a clapping motion after seeing some Nuggets folks clap for trading away a draft selection is probably the answer here. I would guess that he wasn't happy about Denver's decision not to take a player in the first round. That, in itself, would be another can of worms, suggesting Kroenke and his front office aren't on the same page and that he might not be delegating to the qualified people he hired as much as he should.
Perhaps Kroenke addresses this viral moment in the coming days. It might be the only way to truly downplay what looks like awful optics for the Nuggets organization right now.

THE FACTS: This is false. The team brought some products from Norway to maintain consistency in players' diets and provide a taste of home, according to its head chef Aron Espeland. Other ingredients have been sourced locally. Nutrition experts say that such a practice is common among elite athletes who play internationally.
“When athletes are competing at the highest level, consistency is important,” Espeland said. “The players are used to certain products and flavors, and familiar foods can contribute both to nutrition and overall well-being during a demanding competition.”

I was shooting Kane's scoring chance on a 70-200 but when I saw him reacting I decided to quickly switch to 400 mm to get a tight frame of him to capture his emotions.
Kane missed what was a great chance to score and his reaction was quite telling about how he felt about the lost opportunity. The photo also illustrates the England squad's overall perspective of the match, which was they let several chances to win slip away.

WNBA power rankings: Who’s really shouldering the WNBA season so far? Follow the usage

On Tuesday, the NCAA announced that the Division I Cabinet had unanimously voted to approve an age-based eligibility model. In this model, an athlete’s five-year eligibility clock would start upon full-time enrollment at a university or at the beginning of the academic year following their 19th birthday, whichever comes first.
Essentially, this means that redshirts will eventually be eliminated if the model fully passes, and waivers for additional eligibility, outside of unique circumstances, will no longer be granted under the new model.
According to the NCAA, "the change won't be applied to athletes who completed their fourth season of collegiate eligibility by the conclusion of the spring 2026 season. For student-athletes who are currently enrolled and have eligibility after this past academic year, there is flexibility for schools to either be able to apply the new eligibility model or continue with the old model, with the deciding factor being which model is better suited for the athlete. The same will hold for incoming freshmen this year. For recruiting classes that enroll starting in the fall of 2027 and later, the age-based model will only be applied to them."
Essentially, if a program chooses to use it right away, a player who is a "true senior", readying for his fourth season of playing in four years, could potentially come back for a fifth and final year the following season under this model, and so-on for younger players.
Under head coach Brent Venables, the Oklahoma Sooners have put a massive emphasis on retaining their players, convincing them to stay at OU for an extra year, instead of entering the NFL Draft early. It's something the Sooners have had success with, and if that success continues, this new model could benefit Oklahoma both in the short-and-long term.
