The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) was trading at around $193 on October 5, down 11.91% over twelve months. Boeing reported net income of $2.09 billion over the past twelve months. Its EBITDA over the same period was negative $2.9 billion.
Those two figures describe the same year and point in opposite directions. Only one of them tells you what the business did.
READ ALSO: GE Aerospace (GE) vs. RTX (RTX): Which Is the Better Stock to Buy?
Start with the figure that describes the aircraft business itself. Boeing's operating margin is 0.00%. On $93.99 billion of revenue, building and selling airplanes earned nothing.
That is not a rounding problem. Gross profit was $4.43 billion on that revenue, under five percent for a manufacturer, which means the cost of building the aircraft very nearly equals what customers pay for them.

Volkswagen cut its 2026 operating-margin forecast to no more than 1 per cent, down from a previous range of 4 to 5.5 per cent.
Approximately €10 billion in special charges includes a €6 billion non-cash impairment connected with Porsche.
Volkswagen maintained its cash-flow outlook, but the downgrade highlights deeper pressure from China, restructuring costs and lower-margin electric vehicles.
Volkswagen AG (OTC:VWAGY) shares suffered their sharpest decline in months after the German automaker warned that Porsche's deteriorating outlook and additional restructuring costs would substantially reduce its 2026 profit.
Volkswagen's preferred shares fell as much as 7.5 per cent in Frankfurt on Friday before closing 5.6 per cent lower. Shares of Porsche AG declined 3.3 per cent, while Volkswagen's largest shareholder, Porsche Automobil Holding SE, lost 4.9 per cent.

Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) signed a nonbinding letter of intent under which SOCAR would pay $1.65 billion in cash, subject to customary adjustments. SOCAR would acquire non-operated working interests representing 20% of the Legacy Haynesville and 15% of the Western Haynesville upstream interests held by Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK). SOCAR would also acquire 15% of the 73% ownership interest held by Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) in Pinnacle Gas Services.
The letter of intent requires good-faith negotiations but does not obligate completion. The parties are targeting a definitive agreement by October 31, 2026, and closing by year-end, subject to negotiations, approvals, and customary conditions.
Separately, a Jerry Jones family partnership will fund 85% of the drilling and completion costs for 18 Western Haynesville wells and 80% for nine Legacy Haynesville wells. The total 27-well program is expected to cost approximately $450 million over 12 months. After a 15% return on investment, 50% of the interest covered by the venture will revert to Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK).
If the SOCAR transaction closes, Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) estimates that the proceeds would reduce company-defined non-GAAP net debt from $3.1 billion to $1.5 billion as of June 30, 2026. Net debt is calculated as total debt less cash and cash equivalents. The approximately $1.6 billion reduction would nearly halve the measure and could improve financial flexibility.
The drilling venture allows development to continue without equivalent near-term cash funding. Following completion of the SOCAR transaction, Comstock Resources, Inc. (NYSE:CRK) would retain operatorship of the upstream ****** ets and control of Pinnacle Gas Services. Drilling should provide volumes to Pinnacle and help delineate the 545,000 net acres in the Western Haynesville.

Imagine a city free from rush-hour traffic -- not a city that literally doesn't have cars (like, say, Venice), but one that has aerial forms of transportation, like flying cars.
That picture in your head is something that could become real in the next decade. The term for it is "urban air mobility." It won't look like The Jetsons or Back to the Future II -- that is, present-day cars that can hover and propel. Rather, urban air mobility will give us electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, basically a combo of drone and helicopter. They will be quieter than helicopters, with a quick velocity that can reduce an hour of traffic to a 10-minute aerial hop.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The total addressable market of urban air mobility could become a trillion-dollar market, which opens an opportunity to invest in its start-ups. One of those start-ups is Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) -- and it very much has the potential to set investors up for life.
Archer is one of the frontrunners in the eVTOL market. It is currently working on certifying its flagship aircraft, Midnight, which could potentially taxi passengers within urban hubs and to and from airports.

The ******* e Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) IPO was one of the most anticipated public offerings in years. A few days after it began trading, the stock reached an all-time high of $225, a 50% increase from its initial IPO opening price of $150.

This begs the question: What should investors do with ******* eX? Here's why not buying ******* eX stock is the best strategy for now, and why holding it -- if you already own it -- is more advisable than selling.
Let me say up front that ******* eX is very good at what it does. There's a clear business opportunity in sending payloads into orbit, and the company has genuinely broken new ground in rocket launch and landing technologies. And it continues to make progress with its Starship rocket, which recently completed its 13th flight test.

Amazon (AMZN) shares are in a late-summer funk, and it's getting uglier by the day.
Shares of the tech beast have now tanked by about 11% from August's all-time high. With the 2% decline on Tuesday, the stock finished the session below its key 100-day moving average per Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
The stock has underperformed the S&P 500 (^GSPC) this year, rising 10% compared to a 12% advance for the benchmark index.
Two factors may be at play in driving the pullback in Amazon.
For starters, on Tuesday, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 22 states filed a lawsuit alleging that Amazon's advertising practices have overcharged its roughly 1.2 million advertisers by $20 billion from 2019 to the present.

A loan estimate looks like a done deal. It isn't. Some of the numbers on it can legally change by up to 10% before closing, and a few can change by any amount.
Shopping around for a mortgage is crucial, and it starts with the loan estimate, a three-page document detailing the interest rate, estimated costs and other loan terms.
87% of 2025 borrowers paid above the most competitive rate available to them simply because they didn't compare offers, according to Bankrate's Hidden Homeownership Tax research. The typical cost of not shopping: $3,343 a year, or $278 a month.
A mortgage loan estimate is a standardized, three-page document that a lender must send you within three business days of receiving your mortgage application. It lists your rate, monthly payment, closing costs and other terms — but none of these numbers are final. Think of it as a detailed price quote: close enough to compare lenders and build an accurate budget, but not enough to guarantee what you'll actually pay at closing.
When you compare loan estimates from more than one lender, you're more likely to uncover the lowest rate you actually qualify for. Freddie Mac found that borrowers who obtained two rate quotes during the high-rate months of October and November 2022, when average rates topped 7%, could have saved up to $600 a year. Borrowers who obtained at least four quotes could have saved more than $1,200 a year.

Riverwater Partners, an investment management company, released its 'Small Cap Strategy' Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. The Small Cap Strategy underperformed the Russell 2000 in the second quarter as the benchmark experienced one of its strongest risk-on rallies in recent memory, although the strategy remained ahead year-to-date. The quarter was defined by accelerating AI investment, energy market disruptions, and renewed investor appetite for higher-beta stocks, creating headwinds for the firm's quality-focused approach and healthcare positioning. Despite this, stock selection contributed positively in energy, materials, and financials, while healthcare and consumer discretionary detracted due to the fund's disciplined avoidance of speculative businesses. Looking ahead, the firm remains cautiously optimistic, focusing on opportunities created by market dislocations, including AI infrastructure enablers, select consumer companies, healthcare innovators, and energy businesses trading below intrinsic value. The strategy continues to emphasize high-quality companies with strong management teams and attractive valuations, positioning the portfolio for a potential rotation away from speculative market leadership. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Riverwater Partners Small Cap Strategy highlighted Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WERN). The Fund added Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WERN) which engages in transporting truckload shipments of general commodities in interstate and intrastate commerce, to its portfolio during the quarter. On August 31, 2026, Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WERN) closed at $39.18 per share. The one-month return of Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WERN) was 2.27% and its shares gained 37.43% over the past 52 weeks. Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WERN) has a market capitalization of $2.35 billion with a 52-week trading range between $23.06 to $47.49.
Riverwater Partners Small Cap Strategy stated the following regarding Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WERN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Late in the quarter we initiated Werner Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WERN), one of the largest truckload carriers. A landmark liability ruling now places responsibility for driver safety squarely on carriers with the balance sheets to insure it, a change we believe will force as much as a third of industry capacity, concentrated among small and marginal operators, to consolidate or exit. Large, well-capitalized carriers such as Werner should be the direct beneficiaries through pricing power and share gains. Only two of fifteen covering ****** ysts rated the stock a buy when we purchased it, which is precisely the setup we look for: identifying the inflection before the upgrade cycle begins."

Barclays now expects the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates at its September and December meetings, reversing a prior forecast of no changes through the remainder of the year, after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh delivered a hawkish address at the annual Jackson Hole symposium last Friday, according to Reuters.
The Wall Street brokerage described Warsh's speech as "notably hawkish" and said it offered an implicit case for further tightening, according to Reuters. Each of the two projected increases would amount to 25 basis points. The Fed's benchmark federal funds rate currently stands at a target range of 3.5% to 3.75%.
Barclays did note that near-term monthly inflation prints are likely to look considerably cooler than the longer-horizon gauges Warsh cited, but warned that base effects would undercut any apparent improvement in those annual measures before December. Traders are **** igning a 60.4% probability to a September hike, CME Group's FedWatch tool showed.
Warsh's Jackson Hole address, his first keynote at the event as Fed chair, drew significant market attention as his clearest opportunity to fill what had been a deliberate communications void since he took office in May. Warsh told the symposium that policymakers would "have work to do" if they lacked confidence that inflation was returning to the Fed's 2% target. In his remarks, Warsh cast inflation as unacceptably elevated, judged prevailing financial conditions to be doing too little to restrain demand, and described the labor market as operating at or near full employment.
Warsh reinforced his opposition to providing explicit forward guidance, declining to spell out the conditions that would trigger a policy response. "I stand here today committed to a discipline, not to a decision," he said. He acknowledged that this summer's inflation readings came in better than expected but said they did not show meaningful improvement in underlying price trends. The 2-year Treasury yield climbed following the remarks, and traders raised the odds of a September rate increase.

Despite a 50% year-to-date gain and mostly bullish **** yst ratings, Snowflake remains one of the market's most heavily shorted stocks, with short interest valued at $6.18 billion.
Snowflake continues to post GAAP net losses, including $1.33 billion in fiscal 2026, while heavy stock-based compensation and insider selling raise concerns about shareholder dilution.
Bulls point to Snowflake's strong Q1 FY2027 earnings beat, record 126% net revenue retention, growing AI adoption, and rising institutional investment as reasons for long-term optimism.

On August 25, BofA Securities ****** yst Joyce Ju reiterated a Buy rating and $172.00 price target on Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA). The rating affirmation follows one of the largest capital raises by Alibaba. The tech giant raised HK$80 billion ($10.2 billion) in Hong Kong's largest follow-on share offering to invest in its AI infrastructure.
The demand attracted $28 billion of orders, including $6 billion from long-only and sovereign investors. Following the news, the stock plunged as much as 10% in Hong Kong amid fears of capital burning and shareholder dilution. BofA held firm anyway.
Jack Ma
According to Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA), 100% of the net proceeds from the sale will go to Alibaba's full-stack AI capabilities. However, investors are worried because the tech giant's AI push is increasingly becoming expensive and the recent sale makes the near-term picture even messier.
BofA itself has acknowledged that the placement will likely weigh on sentiment considering the shareholder dilution and depreciation tied to AI infrastructure deployment. There is also the uncertainty tied to how long it takes for capex to remain elevated and possibility of further funding.

Alluvial Capital Management's Q2 2026 investor letter for the Alluvial Fund reported a 4.9% return, with a year-to-date increase to 8.0%. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. While these results are acceptable, they are overshadowed by the impressive performance of small-cap and micro-cap stocks, particularly in AI and semiconductor sectors. The portfolio remains stable and focused on dependable cash flow producers, although it sometimes lags in momentum-driven markets. July showed improvement for Alluvial Fund as benchmarks declined. The author emphasizes the importance of a dependable investment strategy focused on solid cash flow producers, while expressing confidence that the portfolio's intrinsic value discount will lessen over time. The letter aims to communicate the fund's approach and highlights potential opportunities in overlooked sectors, urging a long-term investment perspective amidst current market trends. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Alluvial Fund highlighted Talen Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:TLN). Talen Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:TLN) is an independent power producer and infrastructure company that generates and sells electricity, capacity, and ancillary services. On August 26, 2026, Talen Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:TLN) closed at $306.29 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $14.68 billion. Talen Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:TLN) posted a one-month return of -7.89%, while its shares lost 7.89% over the past 52 weeks.
Alluvial Fund stated the following regarding Talen Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:TLN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Talen Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:TLN) is another long-tenured Alluvial holding. We bought Talen out of bankruptcy and have watched Talen's management put on an absolute master class. Since emergence, Talen has bought back a huge quantity of shares at extremely low prices, sold some older, out-of-market **** ets, and reinvested in modern generation capacity at good prices. Today, the market tends to treat Talen as a proxy for AI and data centers: on "AI will take over the world" days, Talen shares soar; on "AI is in a bubble" days, Talen sinks. This dynamic makes Talen unusually tradable by Alluvial Fund standards. We have had success selling calls against our core position when optimism surges, and buying calls when pessimism seems close to peaking. Meanwhile, we keep our eyes on the underlying story: merchant power production, especially nuclear, is a different business than it was a decade ago. Demand for electricity is growing again after stagnating for a decade. The United States is structurally short of generation capacity. This translates to strong free cash flow for companies like Talen that have dispatchable generation capacity. Talen expects free cash flow per share to exceed $40 in 2028, a figure that appears achievable based on planned share buybacks and the ramp-up of the company's supply agreement

ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) picked a good week to hand over the keys. On August 6, the company said that CEO Ryan Lance will retire after 14 years, with CFO Andy O'Brien stepping in on September 1, right when ConocoPhillips had its best quarterly results since 2022. Adjusted profit came in at $3.24 a share, well ahead of the $2.88 Wall Street expected, and revenue jumped 32.4% to $19.5 billion.
ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) pulled off that strong quarter even as production slipped nearly 6% to 2.25 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, leaning instead on a 36% jump in realized prices to carry the results. O'Brien, a nearly 30-year company veteran, inherits a $7 billion free cash flow growth pledge through 2029 that depends heavily on finishing the pricey Willow oil project in Alaska. It is a project whose price tag has already climbed to $9 billion.
One of the company's rivals, Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) told a different story the week before. On July 31, the firm posted its biggest quarterly profit in four years at $14.7 billion, up 67% from the first quarter. It still came up short of the $3.60-per-share estimate with adjusted earnings of $3.52. Its shares fell 1% on the news.
So why did ConocoPhillips's win move the stock while Exxon's four-year-high profit left investors cold?

Performance was driven by the rapid scaling of the AI infrastructure ecosystem, leading to record wireline orders that more than doubled year-over-year.
Management attributed outperformance to increased test intensity as design margins shrink, requiring lossless performance that necessitates testing at the signal, bit, and protocol levels.
The Commercial Communications segment achieved its first $1 billion quarter, with wireline revenue surpassing wireless for the first time due to AI-driven demand for 800G and 1.6T optical transceivers.
Aerospace and defense growth was fueled by global deterrence needs and a shift toward advanced radar architectures and autonomous platforms like UAVs and LEO satellite constellations.

Maersk warned about too many ships. Instead, the bigger problem turned out to be too few ways to move containers once they hit land. That's good news for profits, at least for now. Bad news for anyone hoping global trade would suddenly become smooth.

Revenue rose 20% year on year to $15.8 billion, while operating profit almost doubled to about $1.6 billion, well ahead of **** yst expectations of roughly $700 million. Net profit rose to $1.26 billion from $586 million a year earlier.
Maersk now expects full-year underlying EBIT of $4.5 billion to $6.5 billion, up from its previous $2 billion to $4 billion range. It also lifted underlying EBITDA guidance to $10.5 billion to $12.5 billion from $8 billion to $10 billion.

Brown Advisory, an investment management company, released its "Brown Advisory Global Leaders Strategy" for the second quarter of 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. Brown Advisory's Global Leaders Strategy delivered a net return of 4.6% in the second quarter of 2026, underperforming its benchmark, the MSCI ACWI Net Index, which returned 14.9%. The relative weakness was driven mainly by underexposure to semiconductors and technology hardware, while software, cloud services, and financial holdings also weighed on performance. The strategy benefited from holdings in areas tied to AI infrastructure, with semiconductor exposure and AI-related investments gaining from strong demand. Looking ahead, Brown Advisory sees an attractive environment for active stock-picking, with its ready-to-buy list at its highest level since the COVID-19 period and an estimated 12%-13% average five-year base-case IRR, while maintaining a focus on quality, valuation discipline, and long-term cash-flow generation. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Brown Advisory Global Leaders Strategy Fund highlighted stocks like Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK). Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) develops design and engineering software used by professionals across architecture, construction, manufacturing, and media industries. The one-month return of Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) was 17.37% while its shares traded between $185.50 and $329.09 over the last 52 weeks. On August 7, 2026, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) stock closed at approximately $242.47 per share, with a market capitalization of about $52.59 billion.
Brown Advisory Global Leaders Strategy Fund stated the following regarding Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
We exited Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) in June. Since our first-quarter drawdown review, we have continued our research and discussions around substitution risk for Autodesk, with a particular focus on the potential impact of world models replacing large parts of the 3D creation stack. At the same time, we have seen physical-AI startups, such as Jeff Bezos' Prometheus, investing heavily in developing engineering-grade physical models. (Prometheus closed a successful funding round in June, valuing the company at a level broadly comparable to Autodesk's market capitalization.) The competitive environment for Autodesk is intensifying. As we see substitution risk increasing and the range of outcomes for software companies widening, we have decided to allocate capital elsewhere, funding our initiations in Nvidia and Progressive Corporation.
