The manufacturing industry added 16,000 jobs in August, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Sept. 4.
This brings total estimated employment in the sector to nearly 12.64 million, up from 12.62 million in August 2025. The BLS initially reported 5,000 jobs were added in July.
The manufacturing unemployment rate was 497,000 workers, for a rate of 3.3%, compared to 555,000 workers in August 2025.
In general, 162,000 jobs were added across all U.S. industries, the BLS reported.
