Less than 24 hours after the sensational failure of the Fisnik Asllani transfer, Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig had more bad news to report. **** an Ouédraogo has suffered yet another injury setback and now risks missing the beginning of the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign. Leipzig confirmed on Saturday that the 20-year-old sustained a capsule injury in his right shoulder during the club's summer training camp in Saalfelden, Austria.
There is at least some positive news. Following detailed examinations, RB have elected to treat the injury conservatively and Ouédraogo will not require surgery. The German international is nevertheless expected to remain sidelined for "a few weeks". The timeframe still places his availability for the beginning of new head coach Martin Demichelis' first competitive campaign in doubt.
Leipzig travel to Eintracht Trier in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on August 22 before opening their Bundesliga season against Borussia Mönchengladbach one week later. For Ouédraogo, the latest setback represents another frustrating interruption to a career that has repeatedly gathered spectacular momentum only for injuries to intervene.

Bayer Leverkusen have extended the contracts of managing directors Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes. While there's been considerable upheaval on the touchline as of late, continuity in Leverkusen's front office has never been an issue. Coaching stability remains elusive at Germany's red company team. Managerial stability, on the other hand, appears set.
Leverkusen confirmed on Saturday that CEO Carro has signed a new deal through summer 2029, while sporting managing director Rolfes has committed his future through 2031. Shareholders' committee chairman Werner Wenning credited both executives with playing central roles in Bayer's development over recent years, including the club's historic domestic double in 2024.
"The greatest sporting successes in our club's history are just as much a result of their work as the sustainable development of the entire club," Wenning said.
"We want to and will remain hungry," Carro noted. "Our ambition remains to continuously improve at all levels."
Rolfes, a former Leverkusen captain, initially returned to the club in an administrative capacity before becoming sporting director and joining the management board in 2022.

Reefer rejections sit at 19.46%, or nearly one in five loads, while van rejections are running nearly 50% above year-ago levels.
Recent carrier earnings are reinforcing the capacity-constraint narrative. Knight-Swift reported that its truckload segment operating income rose 69% year over year, with the carrier noting that strategic pricing recovery accelerated in June as recent bids took effect. The company described rapid tightening in supply-driven dynamics and tender rejections reaching levels not seen since 2021.

The biggest number touted by Werner Enterprises in its second quarter earnings release was that it had the highest revenue per truck growth in its One-Way segment in a decade.
Revenue per truck per week was $6,114, up 27.7% from the corresponding quarter a year ago.
Werner did that on the back of a significant downsizing of the number of average trucks in its One-Way Truckload segment. That number was down about 34% from a year ago.
Total miles per truck per week in One-Way was up 15.7% from a year earlier. Those trips also were longer, rising to an average of 685 from 581 a year earlier.
The size of the Dedicated fleet was up as a result of the acquisition of FirstFleet in January. Trucks in service in Dedicated rose 43.7% to 6,976. Average revenue per truck per week rose 5.4% to $4,789.

The Iowa State softball team picked up another player for the 2026-27 season as Des Moines Area Community College outfielder Bri Tigges committed to playing for the Cyclones.
Tigges is the fourth portal addition of the offseason, joining Kennedy Diggs (Kansas), Maggie Werner (Minnesota) and Taylor Platt (North Texas).
Following two years at DMACC, she’ll play 19 minutes east of the softball field at the Boone campus. In her two years (2024-25 and 2025-26) wearing the blue and white, she appeared in 134 total games. In those games, she made 386 at-bats, connecting in 147 hits for a batting average of .381. Her hits tallied 29 doubles, five triples and 23 home runs.
Tigges earned 123 runs for the Bears and drove in 96 runs. She walked 66 times and struck out 30 times and recorded a two-year slugging average of .661.
In 99 fielding attempts over two seasons, Tigges recorded 92 putouts, five **** ists and recorded only two errors.

After being appointed as RB Leipzig’s successor to Ole Werner as head coach a week ago, Martin Demichelis officially began his work at his new club on Monday.
In an interview with Bild, RB Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer spoke in detail about the appointment and outlined what he expects the former Argentina international to bring to the team.
“We want to win matches. That comes through a tactical component, a physical component. And there is also this enthusiasm, this fire, this passion. Martin combines all of that. He has experienced a lot in his career, has played under many coaches at the highest level. And he has taken something from all of them. He knows pressure situations, when you have to deliver,” Schäfer said.
“His basic style of football stands for incredibly high intensity, high pressing and winning the ball back early. He wants to play forward immediately after regaining possession. An ‘attack mode’ style of football. That is something that convinced us in the discussions, the ******* ysis and the observations.”
Demichelis arrives after a short spell as head coach of RCD Mallorca, where he was unable to prevent relegation despite winning five and drawing three of his 12 matches in charge.

After guiding RB Leipzig back to the Champions League with a third-place finish in his first season in charge, Ole Werner was somewhat surprisingly dismissed as head coach and replaced by Martín Demichelis.
In an interview with Bild, RB Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer has now spoken about the sacking, admitting it was far from handled optimally.
“The past few weeks – and we have to be self-critical here – were anything but optimal, simply bad. Period,” Schäfer said.
The 42-year-old explained that a “long and confidential conversation” took place before Werner went on holiday, which was meant to be continued afterwards. However, that did not happen, and reports of the coach’s impending dismissal began to emerge during his vacation.
“That in between, so much of what happened ended up in the public domain for various reasons, was absolutely undignified towards both the person and the coach Ole Werner. I'm truly very sorry about that. No question,” Schäfer said.

After dismissing Ole Werner on Wednesday, two-time DFB Pokal winners RB Leipzig have now picked Martín Demichelis to succeed the former Werder Bremen manager. Demichelis, who last managed at Real Mallorca, has been appointed on a two-year contract. A release clause fee of €2.5m has reportedly been paid to the Spanish island club, according to Bild.
The appointment was warmly welcomed by the club's managing director, Marcel Schaefer, who commented: "Martin is a great manager, he brings a high level of competence with a system which combines intense football and a clear line on the type of play he wants to play."
The former Atletico Madrid manager underlined his motivation for making the switch to the German club: "I want to create a side that plays bold, intense and exciting football."
The Argentine also emphasised his attraction to working in the Bundesliga: "Testing ourselves against Europe's best is also an incredible challenge for me".

Kennedy Diggs joins the Iowa State program as a sophomore following two seasons at Kansas. A standout pitcher from Creighton, Missouri, Diggs entered college with a legendary high school resume, holding the career record at Sherwood High School with 1,308 strikeouts, including a single season where she retired 511 batters. In 2025, she was recognized on the Softball America Freshman Watch List after finishing her debut season with a 4–1 record and a 4.04 ERA, highlighted by a nine-strikeout shutout performance against East Texas A&M. Jun. 20—ROCHESTER — The legacy of Keith Kangas in the baseball community of Rochester, and particularly at Century High School, will be recognized as the school prepares to name its field after the longtime coach.
There were more than a dozen letters submitted to the school district in support of naming the field after Kangas, who coached for more than 30 years in Rochester and led Century High School to a state championship in 2003.
Kangas died in 2019 at the age of 62.
"Keith set a standard for baseball coaches across the state of Minnesota," Former John Marshall High School Baseball Coach Terry Heiderscheit wrote in a letter supporting the naming of the field after Kangas. "Beyond wins and **** les, Keith dedicated much of his life to developing young athletes in the Rochester community."
The naming of Century's field after Kangas is the latest example of several athletic facilities that have been named after influential coaches. Most recently, John Marshall High School named its track after former coach Ron Werner.

LEIPZIG, Germany (AP) — Former Leipzig coach Ole Werner is unhappy he wasn't given the chance to say goodbye to staff after his surprise dismissal from the club.
Leipzig fired Werner and his ***** istant coaches Tom Cichon and Patrick Kohlmann on Wednesday after what many would consider a successful debut season – third place in the Bundesliga for Champions League.
"Ole did a great job, he led us to the Champions League, but we also have to look forward," said Red Bull head of soccer Jürgen Klopp, who made the decision with Leipzig supervisory board chairman Oliver Mintzlaff.
Werner responded with a letter to the players, staff and fans of Leipzig on LinkedIn, saying "unfortunately the timing of this decision makes it impossible for me to say goodbye to all of you in person."
The 38-year-old coach looked back on what he called a "very positive" time in which he'd been asked to "give the team a new look in terms of its demeanor and style of play, while establishing a new, sustainable hierarchy within the dressing room." He said he made many changes and thinks "together we succeeded in fulfilling this mandate."

Jürgen Klopp addresses RB Leipzig’s decision to part ways with Ole Werner while he was working as World Cup pundit for Magenta TV. The Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull was believed to lead the group that demands a new direction for the Bundesliga club.
“We are acting in an advisory capacity as the Global Team,” Klopp explained the role he and his team played at RB Leipzig. “But we were involved in the decision-making process and ***** yzed the season. Ole (Werner) did a fantastic job. We qualified for the Champions League.

“He’s worried. We had a conversation. I can see. I’ve known John a long time, him and the whole team — him and (chairman) Tom Werner, the whole group, they’re working on figuring things out to get this ride better,” Ortiz said Monday morning in an interview with The ******* ociated Press.
Boston is 25-33, trailing the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays by 12 games.
