LOS ANGELES — At Monday's trade deadline, the Red Sox made aggressive moves to solidify their roster for a playoff push and paid a big price to do so.
The biggest? Boston acquired catcher Adley Rutschman from the Orioles marking a major step in Craig Breslow's efforts to bolster the club's offense for the stretch run. Better positioned to attack the market than any other club, the Dodgers were aggressive at this year's deadline. Contextualizing for the position they were in, what they set out to accomplish, and what it took to get there, it's inevitable to conclude it was a successful deadline for the reigning back-to-back champs, worthy of an A grade.
No matter what were to happen, the Dodgers would still come out of the deadline as the favorites to win the World Series. That being said, the addition of Tarik Skubal combined with more underwhelming moves from their top rivals justifies their current odds as +160 to complete the threepeat. Even though all three division leaders in the National League possess similar records, the Dodgers are still heavy favorites to secure the NL's number one seed, currently at -370.
As evident now as ever, one of the keys to the Dodgers' success is the ability to make measured decisions with both the short-term and long-term future in mind—a team unafraid to fully explore their vast resources without being inconsequential in their approach. Skubal's acquisition fulfilled plenty of expectations, but no one can accuse the Dodgers of being held hostage by the Tigers.

I have a history with Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) stock. I have long been a believer in its fuel cell technology, and initially bought the stock in 2020 for $18.50 per share. Fast-forward to the artificial intelligence (AI) data center boom, and interest in its products exploded.
Bloom shares went parabolic and finished 2025 with a 291% annual gain. That continued into this year with Bloom's market cap peaking at nearly $100 billion. That's after the company reported just $2 billion in revenue for 2025.

After opting out of potentially becoming the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and returning to the Oregon Ducks for one more season, it was predictable that quarterback Dante Moore would have an accolade-filled year this fall.
He's coming off a strong 2025 season, as he was named a third-team All-Big Ten performer after completing nearly 72.0% of his passes for over 3,500 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also added two scores with his legs. But all in all, Moore's skills stuck out as being tremendously polished, a stark difference from when the nation had last seen him take the field as a true freshman with the UCLA Bruins.
The accolades are likely to roll in if Moore has the season that he's capable of as a senior, with a significant one being announced on Monday.

It was a sunny, warmer day in St. Joe for Kansas City Chiefs training camp practice, the fifth of camp and the first in full pads.
The team came into Monday's practice fresh off the first off day since the full team arrived on the campus of Missouri Western State University. Here's the recap of Monday's practice:
Head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media after practice and provided details on the three active Chiefs who were unavailable on Monday: wide receivers Cyrus Allen and Xavier Worthy, and defensive end Ashton Gillotte.
As they have each day of practice, cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and wide receiver Rashee Rice took the field with the team in full uniform. Each participated with pads on, although Rice seemed to be held out of 11-on-11, full-team period work against the defense. Sneed seemed to be in the same boat, although I have noted his movement as closer to 100% comparatively to Rice.
While observing the full-team periods, star defensive tackle Chris Jones reminded fans of his dominance with a few disruptive, blow-by snaps.

There's nothing wrong with that strategy, but often I come out with rosters that are more about leftovers than they are about players I actually like. This year I'm going to try to remember that it's okay to "overpay" occasionally for a player I really believe in, or a player I especially need at the time. Plus, heck, you're supposed to ****** emble a team you're going to enjoy following for several months. Don't forget to have some fun with it, too. — Scott Pianowski
It's probably a bit of a stretch to call Daniel Jones Shane Steichen's handpicked guy but at the same time, it was pretty clear that the Colts were putting their thumb on the scale to make him the heavy favorite in last year's camp competition. Regardless, I allowed my own bias about how Jones had played over the last couple of seasons to essentially prevent a ceiling outcome from even crossing my mind. I ended up losing out on chances at significant value for multiple Colts players—many of whom I had been a long-time defender of like Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr.—late in fantasy drafts. Generally, if a sharp play-caller like Steichen taps a reclamation project passer who has shown positive signs in their career, we should be open to the possibility they bring some ADP beats up along with them. This season, I'm keeping my mind open to Kyler Murray reviving the Vikings offense, should he indeed prove to be Kevin O'Connell's Week 1 starter. — Matt Harmon
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the perfect example — working behind or next to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for his opening two seasons. Very few memorable plays stood out. His role was more restricting than we hoped. It was easy to think we already knew what he was as an NFL player. Nico Collins was another perfect example back in 2023. But before the Year 2 breakout there was the Year 3 breakout. Before we believed the best fantasy ****** ets performed at their peak player immediately, we actually had some patience — especially in new situations. Whether that be a seismic coaching staff change in the form of a new play-caller, a new starting quarterback they are attached to or a sociable shift in the pecking order — and sometimes even all of the above. So Rome Odunze, Marvin Harrison Jr., Ladd McConkey, Xavier Worthy and Jonathon Brooks… you are on my radar. — Josh Norris

The Chargers have another month before they trim their roster down to 53 players for the start of the regular season.
Until then, they still have three preseason games and a few more weeks of training camp to prove to the coaching staff they're worthy of a spot.
With the first week of practice behind us, I'm giving my latest projection of the 53-man roster. Keep in mind that it's difficult to make an accurate **** sment because the pads weren't on in Week 1.
For now, here's who I see making the squad next month.

The Chicago Bears were back at training camp on Saturday for their fourth practice of the summer, and there was plenty to break down from Day 4, including the performance of quarterback Caleb Williams.
Williams is entering his third season following a breakout sophomore campaign where he set a franchise single-season passing record, led an NFL record seven fourth quarter comebacks (including the postseason) while leading Chicago to an 11-6 record, NFC North ***** le and playoff win. But Williams had been sharp for the first three practices before what probably might be the offense's worst showing for the entirety of training camp. The Bears' social media account did share a nice completion from Williams for second-year wideout Jahdae Walker.

Shedeur Sanders wrapped up his fourth day of training camp with the Cleveland Browns' second-year quarterback taking all first-team reps for the seocnd time this camp.
Sanders is battling veteran Deshaun Watson for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland, and so far Sanders has looked like the better option. On the day, Sanders completed 13 of his 22 passes with four touchdowns and an interception. Watson, on the other hand, threw three interceptions to go along with three touchdowns.
Saturday's practice marked Watson's second day of camp with multiple interceptions after he had two during the first practice and the second day in a row with an interception. Making any noteworthy conclusions from training camp stats is usually a fool's errand as the playbook is still being installed. Still, it is always better not to have interceptions than to have them.
In total through four practices, Sanders has completed 70.3% of his passes with four touchdowns and an interception. Watson owns a completion percentage of 64.4 with three touchdowns and six interceptions.

The Chiefs said after the workout that Worthy had left early because of a shoulder injury. The third-year pro missed time last season with another shoulder injury he sustained when he collided with tight end Travis Kelce in the season opener against the Chargers.
Worthy returned to play in 13 more games and catch 42 passes for 532 yards and a touchdown.

Blackstone Inc. (NYSE:BX) just posted one of its stronger quarters in years. Profit available to shareholders jumped 26% to $1.52 a share, beating estimates that were clustered around $1.33 to $1.35. Total ******* ets under management grew 11% to $1.35 trillion, and revenue jumped 36% to $5.04 billion. Nine of the firm's ten best-performing investments right now are tied to artificial intelligence. Yet Blackstone's stock is down about 20% so far this year as of July 23, roughly in line with its peers.
Part of the answer is that not every number was strong. Base management fees, one of the metrics ******* ysts watch most closely, came in lighter than expected. The private credit business, which lends money to companies rather than owning them outright, had its second straight quarter of falling profit, down 6% to $373 million. That business also saw its flagship retail fund pull in just $1 billion from wealthy individual investors this quarter, down sharply from $1.9 billion last quarter and $3.7 billion a year ago, as some retail investors grew nervous about private credit generally and pulled money out. President Jon Gray of Blackstone said withdrawal requests have "slowed materially" so far in the current quarter, which is a positive sign, but the pullback itself was real.

This quarter, it struck new deals tied to Google's AI chips, Broadcom chip financing, and Anthropic compute, and sold a data center portfolio for $8 billion and a battery storage company for $7 billion. Infrastructure financing is a real fee engine now too, a record $321 million in transaction fees this quarter, nearly double last year. Gray argues Blackstone Inc. (NYSE:BX) deserves a higher valuation than it gets: almost no debt, a dividend yield near 4%, and tech-like growth at a discount to tech multiples. Data center leasing has scaled from 1 gigawatt in 2024 to 2 in 2025 to a pace of at least 7 this year, built on signed contracts with creditworthy clients rather than speculative building. The firm is also expanding abroad, joining a $16 billion Kuwait pipeline deal and planning a new Dubai office.

The bulls could cling to something worthy while they watch semiconductor stocks such as Sandisk (SNDK) and Micron (MU) get blown to pieces.
About 72% of S&P 500 stocks are now trading above their 200-day moving average, the strongest market breadth since December 2024, according to data from Barchart (see below). The benchmark index is also holding near record highs.
"You've got essentially two-thirds of S&P 500 companies that are trading above their 200-day moving average. That's relatively healthy and still consistent with the market that is more rotational in nature and not necessarily one that is correctional," Charles Schwab strategist Kevin Gordon said on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid.
Investors have cashed in their AI bets and have rotated into software, financials, industrials, healthcare, and consumer discretionary stocks for their perceived values. A strong earnings season from many companies, like Coca-Cola (KO) on Tuesday, has helped offset the negative tones stemming from reports out of Alphabet (GOOGL) and Tesla (TSLA).
The market has also been supported by resilient economic data, continued expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts over the next year, and robust corporate profit growth, all of which have kept money flowing into stocks.

There's an argument to be made that he should get more playing time than Smith. Nevertheless, he took advantage of his opportunities with Greenard out. Hunt shot into the backfield unblocked and forced Hurts to check down to Cooper on one play-action pass that came from under center. He blew up tight end Dallas Goedert with an edge rush and Hurts had to hurry a dump to Bigsby that wasn't caught. And he beat Mailata on back-to-back rushes — one with an inside move and the other from the outside — that blew up pass plays.

Jalyx Hunt had a great day. On one rep he had a 1-on-1 vs. Mailata, who was on an island. Hunt got Mailata leaning outside before jumping back inside with a free path to Hurts, and he got the "sack." On the next play Hunt then beat Mailata to the outside for another "sack," although that one was more of a coverage sack. Hunt also had a tackle for loss on Tank Bigsby, and he just generally he set the edge well against the run.

At running back, Bhayshul Tuten continues to seemingly have a firm grasp on the RB1 role. John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote that Tuten was "the most impressive offensive player" on Day 1 of training camp.

Utah and Brigham Young are the flagship universities in the Beehive State. Most of the success in college athletics comes from those two schools. However, there are five other institutions in the state that play in Division I that are worthy of attention.
Yes, the exercise of recognizing the 10 greatest college athletes who played in Utah is going to focus on the Utes and Cougars, who both have taken a circuitous patch to eventually reach their current membership in the Big 12 Conference. The Cougars boast a Heisman Trophy winner and several other well-known quarterbacks. The Utes have their own notable success in multiple sports.

But the list is also going to include some other standouts who didn't play on the biggest stage in the state. Utah State and Weber State respectively produced a Pro Football Hall of Famer who also gained notoriety outside the sporting world and a future Basketball Hall of Famer.

He threw for 15,031 yards and 121 touchdowns while setting 59 NCAA records in his time with the Cougars. His biggest moment from the 1990 season came against No. 1 Miami when he passed for 406 yards in an upset of the Hurricanes that kick-started his Heisman run.

Following the Indianapolis Colts' first training camp practice, there were some noteworthy lineup observations made by the Indy Star's Joel Erickson in a post-practice report.
With Alec Pierce sidelined, starting at wide receiver next to Josh Downs were Ashton Dulin and Laquon Treadwell. With the third starting wide receiver role on the roster up for grabs, Dulin and Treadwell appear to be the early favorites to fill that role.
Dulin, in particular, is coming off a strong showing during offseason programs. Along with Treadwell being in the mix for snaps on offense, his ability to contribute to a few different special teams phases helps his case to make a roster push.
Then at linebacker, with CJ Allen on the PUP list, Erickson notes that Bryce Boettcher and Akeem Davis-Gaither were the two starters. This doesn't come as a big surprise, considering that both saw snaps with the ones during offseason programs. These two may end up battling for the starting spot next to Allen.
Lastly, it wasn't AJ Haulcy starting next to Cam Bynum, but it was Hunter Wohler who got those reps. Haulcy impressed during offseason programs, but Wohler's versatility adds an intriguing dynamic to that position group.

Tom Brady has reportedly been in talks with WWE following a couple of viral confrontations with wrestler/influencer Logan Paul. The interactions have come with mixed receptions, with some finding it entertaining and others seeing it as cringe-worthy.
It's safe to ***** ume that NFL legend Patrick Peterson would probably fall into the latter group.
When speaking with TMZ Sports, Peterson shot down the idea of Brady partaking in the world of professional wrestling.
"Tom don't wanna go to WWE," Peterson said. "He's a quarterback -- and I know Tom is a tough guy. I had the opportunity to be around Tom a bunch of times. He is a hard-nosed Michigan man. Those Michigan men, they definitely wear their heart on their sleeve, but the WWE, Tom? Just let it be. Just let it be, man."
Nothing has been confirmed between Brady and WWE, but the over-the-top run-ins involving Paul appear to indicate that the two sides are angling for something. Perhaps they are merely dipping their toe in the water and seeing how the general public reacts to the feud.

Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles and Head Coach Ben Johnson met with the media today to open up training camp. Here are some noteworthy nuggets.
Kyler Gordon was the talk of the town today as he continues to not be healthy enough to play. Spidey opens up training camp on the Physically Unable to Participate list. Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson were understandably frustrated. According to them, he has done everything he has needed to do this off-season to prepare and get healthy, but when asked about what his message has been to Kyler Gordon, Ben Johnson succinctly said: "Get healthy."
A healthy Kyler goes a long way for this team. But your best ability is availability, so it remains to be seen if he sees out his recently inked contract just a year ago.
Joining Kyler on PUP are TJ Edwards, Elijah Hicks, Keyshaun Elliott, and Montez Sweat, but none of them are expected to be long-term.
