Legacy Motor Club, the NASCAR team owned by seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and a host of celebrities, now has an open seat to fill ahead of next season.
The team announced on Wednesday, Sept. 2 that John Hunter Nemechek would not return to drive the No. 42 Toyota for Legacy next season. The news is both surprising and abrupt considering that Legacy announced sponsors for the 2027 season for Nemechek back in May.
"Legacy Motor Club has made the decision to part ways with John Hunter Nemechek at the conclusion of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season," the team said in a statement. "We are grateful for John Hunter's contributions to Legacy Motor Club and appreciate his professionalism and commitment to the organization throughout his time with the team. We remain focused on finishing the 2026 season strong together and wish John Hunter the very best in the future."
Nemechek, who is in his fourth full-time season in the Cup Series — and third with Legacy — released his own statement after.
"I am incredibly grateful to Legacy Motor Club for the past three years. While I am obviously disappointed with their decision, I am as motivated as ever. I went through this in St. Louis with the Rams and in the Bay Area with the Raiders. Kevin Demoff, Amy Trask and Marc Badain were all fantastic. All knew their results shaped the local coverage. Win games and people are happy. Lose games and fire people, and criticisms follow. It's that simple.
Stillman is a longtime Nashville radio host. He broadcasts now on YouTube, and recently went viral after a testy exchange with quarterback Cam Ward. On his show the next day, he said the ****** ans wouldn't be foolish enough to pull his credential over it. He felt the backlash would be brutal and make them look like the softest organization in the NFL.

During a second-quarter skirmish that initially involved a couple of players from both the Trojans and Organ Mountain on Friday night at the Field of Dreams, approximately two dozen Mayfield players rushed off the sideline and onto the field to join the fray.
Following a multi-day investigation, the NMAA on Wednesday announced that Mayfield, under the organization's still relatively new "2 Strikes" sportsmanship initiative, would be issued a first strike.
If Mayfield's football team is involved in any other serious on-field issue the rest of the season and the NMAA deems it "strike" worthy, a second strike would mean the Trojans would have whatever remains of their season cancelled.

The long-awaited results of the NBA's investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers' alleged salary cap circumvention practices were finally released on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and the fallout is just beginning.
Among the punishments handed out, the Clippers must forfeit five first-round draft picks and pay a $30 million fine. Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers' superstar at the heart of the scandal, has been fined $700,000. Additionally, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and president of business operations Gillian Zucker have been suspended by the league for one year. Lawrence Frank, the team's president of basketball operations, has been suspended for six months.
The official investigation report from the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz explicitly lays out why the organization is facing the brunt of the penalties. Both stocks rose sharply after their last reports, and the market is expecting more good news again. That is why I think the headline beat matters less this time around.
Dell has already set the bar high. During its last quarterly release, it lifted the full-year revenue outlook from $140 billion to $167 billion and nearly doubled its GAAP EPS guidance to a $17.31 midpoint. Its AI backlog sits at $51 billion, with AI revenue guided to $60 billion for the year. Another raise is widely expected, and the stock is priced for it. HPE is coming off with similar momentum. In June, it posted record revenue and margins, raised its full-year outlook, and pulled its fiscal 2028 profit target forward by two full years. A lot of that comes from Juniper. HPE's networking carries far richer margins than servers do. So Dell is the bigger growth story, while HPE is quietly building the better-quality one.

One of San Francisco's highest-ranked schools will forfeit three of its varsity baseball games amid reports of racist taunting that allegedly occurred at a game last spring.
An investigation published Friday by the Academic Athletic **** ociation and CIF San Francisco City Section, the governing organizations of the school's teams, determined that on May 15, Lowell's varsity baseball team behaved in an "unsportsmanlike" manner while watching the championship junior varsity game versus Lincoln High School. Athletics officials said the team violated several of the **** ociation's bylaws, including its conduct and hazing policies.
The team is ordered to forfeit its games against three rivals in the 2026-2027 season: Lincoln High School, Galileo Academy and Washington High School. Officials have not set a date for the games yet, but they were chosen "based on the standings last season and the impact it will have on standings in the 2026-2027 season," the letter read.
Officials did not directly name the alleged racist incident or other allegations, but in a statement to SFGATE, school district officials said anyone who has witnessed or experienced "racialized harm" is urged to report it.
"We want to emphasize that there is no place for racism, discrimination, or racialized harm in the Lowell community or anywhere in SFUSD," the district said.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Earlier this offseason, it had appeared as if freshman Salesi Moa and Texas transfer Jaime Ffrench each had the inside edge to be Michigan football's No. 3 wide receiver. Then, early in fall camp, it had appeared as if freshman Travis Johnson was surging. However, on Monday night, head coach Kyle Whittingham surprised many by naming junior receiver Channing Goodwin as the third guy behind Andrew Marsh and JJ Buchanan.
Goodwin opened up the season last year as a starter opposite Semaj Morgan. But drops in his first four games relegated him to the bench in favor of then-freshman Andrew Marsh. However, with a new coaching staff having fresh eyes, mixed with Goodwin finding his groove in fall camp, he emerged as the next option behind the starting duo playing out wide.
"Channing, we didn't have him in the spring because he was out coming back from his surgery," Beck said. "So it was really great getting him back in this fall camp. And he's just really steady, knows what to do, very football intelligent, really dependable and consistent."
While Goodwin will be heavily featured, he won't be the only other receiver to see the field. The aforementioned trio -- Moa, Ffrench, Johnson -- will also play, along with Kendrick Bell and perhaps Jamar Browder or Jacob Washington.
Beck said that the 'starters' are the trio of Marsh, Buchanan, and Goodwin, but that doesn't mean they'll always be the first players on the field for the first offensive down of any given game.

LOS ANGELES — John Shoemaker is in his sixth straight year managing the Dodgers' Class-A affiliate and his first year in Ontario after the previous five campaigns with Rancho Cucamonga. He'll be at Dodger Stadium on Friday night as part of the annual celebration of longtime employees in the organization.
This is Shoemaker's 50th year with the Dodgers, first as a player from 1977-80 as he was selected in both the MLB Draft and NBA Draft, then as a coach every season since 1981. He was named the Dodgers captain of player development in 2015, and accordingly wears a C on the front of his jersey to this day.
There aren't many things Shoemaker hasn't done within the game of baseball, but come October he can check off another box. He will manage the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League.
The AFL is the annual showcase of prospects throughout the game, with six Arizona teams comprised of prospects from five MLB teams each. Glendale, which plays its games at Camelback Ranch, the home of the Dodgers and White Sox, will consist of prospects of those two teams plus the Braves, Marlins, and Pirates.
Among the notes for Shoemaker in MLB's press release is that he's had 20 separate winning seasons as a minor league manager and his 1,984-1,863 lifetime record has him third among active minor league managers.

Premier League clubs have smashed their summer transfer record with over £3.3bn spent. More than half of the Premier League's clubs broke their transfer records in a summer window featuring four of the top flight's five most expensive ever deals.
Manchester City completed the biggest deal on the final hours of the window by singing Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125m, while Liverpool paid £120m for Bradley Barcola, Chelsea made Morgan Rogers their record signing for £117m and Tottenham also broke the £100m barrier by recruiting midfielder Sandro Tonali.
City were the biggest spenders overall with around £435m paid in transfer fees, followed by Chelsea (£349.8m) and Tottenham (£315m). Chelsea recouped the most in sales (£385m) with Aston Villa also receiving more than £300m in transfer fees after selling six of the players who started last season's Europa League final.

On Wednesday, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes spoke to the local media for the first time since the team made the decision to cut Terrion Arnold following his arrest in connection with an incident earlier this year that resulted in eight felony charges. It was an opportunity for Holmes to face some criticism on the way the Lions handled Arnold's situation and built the cornerback room behind him.
One of the main lingering questions was why the Lions' opinion on Arnold shifted throughout the process. When his name was first connected to the incident—before his arrest—the Lions organization backed Arnold and his version of the story.
"We got all the information that says he wasn't involved," coach Dan Campbell said during the owners' meeting in April. "That's what we know, that's all we know, and that's really all I can say. As far as I know, it's not a big deal. It seems like he still wasn't involved with this."
The Lions then opted to waive him days after his arrest. Holmes didn't offer many details on what changed, simply noting that when they got more information, they made the move they felt was right.
"The whole situation obviously was unfortunate. Look, the kid made a mistake," Holmes said. "The more information that we got throughout the process, that was the result of us doing what the best and right thing was for the club, which was: move on and move forward."

The NFL isn't always about what happens on the field, and Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti and his family are once again investing in the city's future by expanding a scholarship program designed to help Baltimore students attend and graduate from college.
The Bisciotti Family Foundation has committed up to $3 million to continue the Ozzie Newsome Scholars Program through an expanded partnership with Morgan State University. The eight-year grant will run from 2026 through 2033 and be administered by the Morgan State University Foundation.
The funding will support 40 new students at Morgan State, with 10 students selected from each of the next four incoming classes. Each recipient can receive $15,000 annually for up to 5 years, for a potential scholarship value of $75,000 per student.
"Since its inception, the Ozzie Newsome Scholars Program has been about more than financial support," Bisciotti said. "It honors Ozzie's legacy by investing in Baltimore students whose talent, determination and character continue to inspire us."
The program began in 2021 with a $4 million commitment divided among Morgan State, Bowie State, Coppin State and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Current scholars at those institutions will continue receiving their promised ******* istance, but future classes will be concentrated at Morgan State.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the offseason determined to create more competition and depth along the edge. After watching Jack Pyburn throughout the preseason, they may eventually wonder whether they let one of their more intriguing young pass rushers get away too soon.
Tampa Bay waived Pyburn as part of its final roster cuts despite the undrafted rookie putting together one of the strongest preseasons on the team. Pyburn finished with four sacks, including two against the New York Jets and another two in the preseason finale against Jacksonville. His four sacks were tied for the most among edge defenders during the preseason. A numbers problem was always going to exist. The Buccaneers spent significant resources rebuilding the position, adding first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. and veteran Al-Quadin Muhammad to a group that already included Yaya Diaby, David Walker and Anthony Nelson. With only so many roster spots available, Tampa Bay was eventually going to have to make a difficult decision. The gamble was likely that he would clear waivers and potentially remain available to the organization. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs claimed him almost immediately, placing Pyburn on their 53-man roster and preventing Tampa Bay from bringing him back.
Preseason sacks don't automatically translate to the regular season, and Pyburn was often working against backups. Still, he did exactly what a young player is supposed to do with limited opportunities. Todd Bowles praised his work ethic and production after his two sack performance against New York, noting that Pyburn had taken advantage of the opportunities he received despite being buried behind a deep group of edge rushers, as Pyburn has a 21.4 percent pass rush productivity rate on true pass sets and a 23.8 percent win rate during the preseason.
The Buccaneers couldn't keep every promising edge defender, and their revamped group should be significantly deeper than it was a year ago. But if injuries strike or Pyburn develops into a contributor for Kansas City, this move will become much harder to defend. Tampa Bay spent the offseason searching for young players who could get after the quarterback. Pyburn showed legitimate signs of being one of them, and now the Buccaneers won't get the chance to find out what he could have become in their defense.

BEREA ― There's a long weekend waiting for the Browns in a little more than 24 hours. After that, there's the long regular-season grind waiting for them.
But first, the Browns will have their final practice before they fully transition into regular-season mode when they get on the field Sept. 2. It will be the start of their transition into preparations for season-opening opponent Jacksonville.
The Browns continue to tinker with the 53-man roster now that the initial deadline has come and gone. They've already added three to the roster who weren't part of the organization prior to this week.
More than anything, they're starting to figure out exactly what their rotations are and who'll play exactly where within the initial game plan of the season. Crystalizing would be a better way to describe the process.
However you want to describe it, the ultimate goal is the same. It's about making sure all the Ts are crossed and Is are dotted, or whatever other way you want to sum up the final 11 days before the opener.
