Florian Plettenberg reports that Augsburg defender Chrislain Matsima's move to Palace has collapsed. The two sides failed to reach an agreement on the final contractual details despite discussing a total package worth as much as €30 million. Matsima will be remaining in the Bundesliga for now.
The proposed deal reportedly collapsed because Augsburg and Palace remained apart on the structure of the payments and performance-related bonuses. Matsima and his representatives have already been informed that the move will not proceed.
The 24-year-old will now return to first-team duties and travel with Augsburg to their training camp on Saturday. Sky notes that Matsima behaved professionally throughout the negotiations.
Palace initially reached personal terms with Matsima before raising an earlier €20 million bid to €25 million. Augsburg nevertheless remained determined to secure the major profit long anticipated for the defender, whom they purchased permanently from Monaco for approximately €5 million.
Matsima developed into one of Augsburg's most important defensive players and later signed a contract extension through 2030. A serious thigh injury in January interrupted his progress, though he returned during the closing stages of last season.

Virtually all German footballing media sources are currently reporting that Jesper Lindstrøm's transfer to newly promoted Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke 04 is close to being finalized. Reports from Italy and Germany now suggest that negotiations are at an advanced stage, with Lindstrøm already having reached a basic agreement with die Königsblauen.
Schalke have been working to bring the 26-year-old back to the Bundesliga following his disappointing season with relegated Wolfsburg. Napoli initially hoped to sell the Denmark international and recover part of the approximately €30 million invested in his 2023 transfer from Frankfurt.
What price Schalke will pay for the 18-times-capped international should prove interesting.
Lindstrøm's estimated market value in the Transfermarkt listings has collapsed since his successful Frankfurt spell. Valued at €28 million before leaving the Bundesliga, the winger arrived at Wolfsburg last summer with an €18 million valuation.
Following an injury-plagued campaign in which he made only four starts, Lindstrøm is now valued at €4 million—a decline of almost 78 percent in one year. The Dane made another 11 appearances off the bench, including both relegation-playoff fixtures against Paderborn.

WESTFIELD – As he marveled at the zip on the ball and the fluidity with which his starting quarterback moved during recent private workouts in Florida, Colts receiver Josh Downs says he had to remind himself that Daniel Jones was ever injured.
"That's how good he looked out there. I'm excited to see him out there, full-go and getting after it," Downs said Tuesday.
Wednesday marks a monumental day for the 29-year-old quarterback, who a year ago entered camp on a one-year, $14 million prove-it deal that only promised him the chance to compete with 2023 fourth overall pick Anthony Richardson Sr. for the Colts' starting role, and no more.
In Indianapolis, Jones matched wits with head coach Shane Steichen and found himself holding the car keys to what in September and October was the league's most electric offense, and seemed a shoo-in to compete for the AFC's top seed and threaten for a deep playoff push.
Not yet even eight months ago, Jones collapsed onto the turf in Indianapolis' house of horrors in Jacksonville. A resurgent campaign that had sparked MVP conversations had been first hampered by a fractured fibula and then ended with the snap of his right Achilles tendon Dec. 7. But Wednesday, Jones returned to the field without restrictions. What once was a very real question -- whether Jones would be ready for a Week 1 return -- seems a foregone conclusion.

Well this is a peculiar first move for trade deadline season. Jake Rogers, the longest tenured Detroit Tigers player, has been designated for ***** ignment. Eduardo Valencia was recalled on Sunday and will be taking over the backup catcher duties. Rogers' roster spot will go to Javier Báez, who returns from a three-month absence after suffering a high ankle sprain at the end of April.
The 31-year-old Rogers made his major league debut with the Tigers back on July 30, 2019 after coming to the Tigers in the trade that sent Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros in August of 2017. He finally became the Tigers primary catcher in 2021 before tearing his UCL and requiring reconstruction surgery that cost him all of the 2022 season. In 2023 and 2024 Rogers put together good seasons based around his defensive ability, plate discipline, and the occasional burst of home run power. He was worth 4.7 fWAR across those two years, but since that point his offensive contributions collapsed as Dillon Dingler took over the everyday catching role. This season, Rogers' defense finally showed real signs of cracking as well. He's hitting .161/.266/.301 for a 60 wRC+ which ranks him 48th out of 59 catchers with 100 plate appearances or more this season.
Despite his struggles, two part-time White Sox catchers, and numerous others, are even worse offensive players than Rogers. It won't be a surprise if he gets claimed, but it's too bad no one would flip a lottery ticket prospect to acquire him. The problem is that Rogers defensive numbers have declined this year and he's finally grading out a little below average as a defender. Whether that's partly the result of lack of playing time is hard to say, but hopefully he'll be claimed somewhere. If he clears waivers and is outrighted the Tigers will still be on the hook for the rest of his $3.05M salary for 2026.
Valencia is far and away a better hitter than Rogers, so that should provide a little support to the offense. On the other hand, Valencia isn't that good behind the plate, particularly in terms of holding opponents' running game in check. Still with Rogers defensive numbers in decline, perhaps Valencia won't do worse.
Getting Báez back could be pretty helpful to the Tigers although it's just funny to look at Báez as a way to trim strikeouts in the lineup by taking over some of the workload from James Outman. It will be interesting to see how he's deployed. With Kerry Carpenter out with a foot injury, the outfield needs help. It needed help anyway. We'll see if Báez is back to full speed and can get back to playing a solid enough center field. If he's back to 100 percent, that also gives the Tigers options, with Báez getting some time at shortstop and around the infield to get another right-handed bat into the lineup. Either way, it's good to have Javy Báez back, and hopefully further support for the outfield isn't too far away as Max Clark will be available to be called up without spoiling his 2027 rookie eligibi

A decade ago, Seattle was the poster child of American tech prosperity. Amazon and Microsoft had turned a midsize Pacific Northwest city into a magnet for engineers, executives, and capital, adding roughly 40,000 jobs per year at the peak of the boom, according to the Puget Sound Regional Council.
Today, more than one-third of downtown Seattle's office **** e sits empty, its job postings have collapsed faster than almost any other U.S. metro, and even Starbucks—the coffee giant founded in the city in 1971—is shifting jobs south to Nashville, as it commits to a $100 million, 2,000-person new footprint in Music City. The story of Seattle's reversal unfolds in three overlapping arcs: an office market in free fall, a labor market that has gone from boom to bust, and a policy environment that has made survival harder for the small businesses left behind.
Seattle's downtown office vacancy rate hit 35.6% in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from 32.3% a year earlier, according to Cushman & Wakefield data. That marks a stunning reversal from the pre-pandemic era: As recently as early 2025, the central business district's availability rate—offices with departures pending—and vacancy rate were already hitting all-time highs based on CoStar data stretching back to 1982.
Some brokers put the number even higher, with Colliers reporting vacancy touching 39.1% in late 2024 as remote work, tech layoffs, and cautious leasing decisions compounded. Office building values in the district have plunged sharply as a result, with landlords struggling to fill **** e abandoned by major tenants.
The office crisis is inseparable from a broader collapse in hiring. Seattle metro job postings fell 35% between February 2020 and October 2025, the second-steepest drop of any major U.S. metro after San Francisco's 37% decline, according to Axios's **** ysis of Indeed data.

New Hamburg attacking addition Patson Daka bid the Bundesliga a spirited ****** o on Friday. Following his arrival at HSV's Austrian training camp, new striker Patson Daka has spoken about his decision to join the Bundesliga club and his determination to escape the difficult period that stalled his career at Leicester City.
The 27-year-old joined HSV on a free transfer after Leicester's relegation to the English third tier. Daka, for whom the former Premier League club paid approximately €30m five years ago, initially signed a one-year contract containing an extension option. The Zambian international is expected to make his unofficial debut in Saturday's friendly against 1. FC Heidenheim.
Daka's fellow new Hamburg signing – Moroccan U23 international Bilal Nadir – also saw his arrival on a free transfer confirmed Friday. Like Daka, Nadir is also hoping to put a recent rough patch behind him. Last October, whilst playing for Olympique Marseille, Nadir made unpleasant headlines when he collapsed on the field during a Ligue 1 match against Angers.
In their second season back in the Bundesliga, Hamburg are rapidly becoming the club of "second chances"; an apt categorization in the year that Mario Vuskovic is once again eligible to play following his long suspension. Daka optimistically led the group of new arrivals at his introductory press event.
The striker began researching HSV shortly after the club established contact. Daka also consulted former Salzburg teammates Hee-Chan Hwang (whom many will recall from his RB Leipzig days) and Masaya Okugawa (who mostly featured for Arminia Bielefeld), both of whom previously played in Hamburg.

Atalanta have missed their shot for Karim Alajbegovic, and more teams have joined the race, including Juventus, which are also defying Fenerbahce for Brazilian talent André, La Stampa reports.
Corinthians requested €17/18M plus €4M add-ons for 70 percent of the player’s card. The rest belong directly to him and his entourage, who are itching to move to Europe. He was close to Milan in January, but the transfer collapsed late. He notched 7 goals in 41 appearances last season.
The Bianconeri need to be decisive, though, as the competition from Turkey is strong. Instead, they have barely added anybody yet to focus on the exits. In the same role, they made a competitive offer for Frank Kessié, but they didn’t match his request and asked him to wait.
André isn’t the only youngster being chased by Juventus, as they are going after Alajbegovic as well. Atalanta were briefly in the lead, but Bayer Leverkusen raised their request after more sides are seriously eyeing him.
Fiorentina, Milan, and Napoli have also shown interest in the Bosnian starlet, La ***** one reports. However, the biggest threat comes from England. Chelsea have muscled their way into the fray and are currently the favorites, The Telegraph reports.

A lot has changed in Ismael Bonfim's life and career ahead of Saturday's fight with Axel Sola at UFC Abu Dhabi, and he's confident that it will all reflect positively in his performance—and overall health.
Bonfim hasn't entered the octagon since November of 2025, when he stepped on the scale at 161 pounds (five pounds over the non-title limit) for his lightweight bout with Chris Padilla. "Marreta" was stopped late in Round 2, and now tells MMA Fighting that making it into the cage was already a challenge on its own.
"I relied too much on dehydration," Bonfim said of his weigh-in struggle, not a first since joining the UFC. "I got to fight week still needing to lose 22 pounds. I was bringing it down little by little, and on the day of the weight cut I still had 8.8 pounds left. I managed to lose 6.6, but with about 2.2 still to go, I just couldn't do it anymore. I'd stay in the sauna for 30 seconds and my body would already start cramping. I was getting cramps I'd never felt in my life, like cramps in my neck. That's when we decided to stop the weight cut. The previous times I'd made that kind of cut without any issues, so we thought losing 22 pounds during fight week would be manageable, but it wasn't. This time we started working on it much earlier."
Bonfim said "the situation was really bad" when he arrived at the UFC APEX for the official weigh-in and later collapsed before officially missing weight.
"I was standing on the scale, before the official weigh-in, and suddenly got a cramp in my neck," Bonfim said. "I collapsed on the floor and they called the doctor. The doctor checked me and said, 'You're going to be the first one to weigh in.'"

Jack Mallers has stepped down as CEO of Twenty One Capital, and investors didn't take it well.
Shares of the Bitcoin treasury company—a publicly traded firm that holds Bitcoin on its balance sheet, letting regular investors gain exposure to the cryptocurrency without buying it directly—dropped nearly 15% on Tuesday.
Mallers co-founded Twenty One alongside Tether—the issuer of USDT, the world's most widely used dollar-pegged stablecoin (a digital token that holds a fixed value of one dollar and functions as the backbone of crypto trading)—and listed the company on the New York Stock Exchange in December 2025 through a ******* merger. A ******* , or special purpose acquisition company, is a blank check shell firm created specifically to take other companies public faster than a traditional IPO allows.
Twenty One still holds 43,514 BTC. At current prices, that balance sheet is worth more than $4 billion, ranking it second among all public companies for Bitcoin holdings, just behind Michael Saylor's Strategy. Strategy is the company that effectively pioneered the corporate Bitcoin treasury playbook in 2020—borrowing money to buy Bitcoin at scale and daring anyone to tell them it was a bad idea.
Mallers' exit comes packaged with worse news. Tether's plan to merge three Bitcoin businesses into a single publicly traded entity has officially collapsed, per Bloomberg. The proposed combination would have united Twenty One's treasury operations, Strike's Bitcoin payments and lending platform (which operates in more than 100 countries), and Elektron Energy's mining infrastructure under one publicly listed company.

Bill O'Reilly suggested that his longtime friend President Donald Trump "needs a breather" from his White House duties due to his age, even as the war in Iran still rages on.
"As you know, I've known the president 35 years, and he's 80 years old right now," O'Reilly, 76, said on Tuesday's episode of the "No Spin News" podcast.
Politics: Hegseth Grilled Amid Iran War Escalation, Thousands Of Flight Cancelled: Live Updates
Observing "that [Trump] is hunching over a little bit," O'Reilly continued, "that's normal. You get older, every malady in the world is going to visit you." He then advised the president to "take the next month off" and "get into an environment where you like golf, and relax a little bit."
O'Reilly made the comments amid the fallout of the Iran war after the Trump administration's interim deal with Iran to cease fighting collapsed. The U.S. and Iran continue to trade strikes as the shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, an essential shipping chokepoint for global oil, has largely halted.

Al-Ahli's interest in Manu Kone has been confirmed, but the Saudi club face significant hurdles before any move for the Roma midfielder can take shape.
According to Gianluigi Longari, as relayed by AlfredoPedullà.com, Al-Ahli have Kone on their list alongside Idrissa Gueye, but they must first offload Enzo Millot before adding to their midfield. That outgoing is described as a non-negotiable precondition for any incoming business.
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – JUNE 22: Manu Kone #6 of France and Youssef Amyn #7 of Iraq compete for the ball during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group I match between France and Iraq at Philadelphia Stadium on June 22, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Darrian Traynor/Getty Images)
Even with that resolved, two further steps would remain. A negotiation with Roma would have to begin from scratch, and Kone himself would need to open the door to a switch to Saudi Arabia, no small consideration for a France international who has been the subject of Premier League interest this summer.
Manchester United emerged as suitors earlier in the window, turning to the Frenchman after their agreed deal for Atalanta's Ederson collapsed, with Roma reportedly open to a sale at around €50 million as they look to balance the books under UEFA scrutiny.

LIMA, Peru (AP) — A 5.5 magnitude earthquake shook the Andes region of Peru, killing at least six people, injuring more than 30 and displacing 300, authorities said Sunday.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake struck on Saturday at 9:24 p.m., with its epicenter located 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) west-southwest of the city of Sicaya in Huancayo province. It was 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) deep.
Peru's National Civil Defense Institute said in a statement the total number of missing is still unknown. Several buildings collapsed or suffered structural damage, including the historic "Santiago de León" church and former convent in Chongos Bajo, which was built in 1565 and designated as national heritage site for being a 16th century "architectural gem."
Luis Vásquez, head of the local civil defense office, told journalists that the use of rustic adobe materials in construction in that Andean area "has contributed to the greater impact and damage."

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The U.S. military launched airstrikes Sunday targeting Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard to retaliate for the killing of American troops in Jordan, further widening crossfire between the nations as an interim deal seeking an end to their war has collapsed.
The strikes are part of a weeklong campaign that began with a struggle over control of the Strait of Hormuz and has seen Iran strike U.S.-allied countries across the Middle East.
The U.S. has targeted bridges, electrical facilities and other targets in Iran, and Tehran has retaliated by hitting power and desalination plants in Kuwait, threatening daily life in that small, oil-rich desert nation. Iran also has stepped up its threats to further expand the strikes, drawing a warning overnight from the United Arab Emirates.
Kuwait and Bahrain again activated air defenses Sunday morning as they warned of incoming Iranian drones and missiles.
The U.S. military's Central Command in its statement also said it hit "Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities and missile and drone storage sites." It also said for the first time it specifically targeting the Guard, a key power base in Iran's theocracy that controls its ballistic missile **** nal.

CAIRO/DUBAI, July 15 (Reuters) - The U.S. launched two waves of attacks on Iran's coastal defenses and missile sites on Wednesday after reimposing a naval blockade of its ports, while Iran struck back by targeting U.S. military sites in neighboring countries in what it called an "existential war" with America.
The latest escalation comes days after a fragile truce collapsed, raising the specter of a return to full-scale war, with Iran once again threatening to shut off more regional energy exports.
Hostilities have intensified since Iran said late on Saturday it had closed the Strait of Hormuz. Military operations are also keeping ships from transiting the vital artery, which carried about a fifth of global oil and gas shipments before the war. Brent crude oil, the international benchmark, closed at a one-month high of $84.95 a barrel on Wednesday.
U.S. Central Command said the military had attacked coastal defense systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Iran's Greater Tunb Island starting around 6:00 a.m. EDT (1000 GMT), then launched a second wave of strikes against multiple cities nine hours later.

Wholesale inflation dipped in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday, with the Producer Price Index for final demand falling 0.3%. It marked the first time the index has moved lower on a monthly basis since August 2025. And the June pullback in wholesale prices came before the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran collapsed, driving oil prices higher again.
Final demand prices had risen 0.6% in May and 1.1% in April. On an annual basis, the index for final demand rose 5.5% through June.
The June decline was driven by a 1.4% drop in prices for final demand goods — the largest such decrease since July 2022, when goods prices fell 1.9%. Energy prices led the goods decline, falling 6.4% for the month. Food prices also slipped 0.6%. Prices for final demand goods excluding food and energy edged up 0.2%.
Gasoline accounted for nearly two-thirds of the June decline in final demand goods prices, dropping 12%. Diesel fuel, jet fuel, fresh vegetables, crude petroleum, and thermoplastic resins also fell. Plastic products and residential electric power were among the categories that posted increases.
Final demand services prices rose 0.2% in June after falling 0.1% in May. More than 60% of that gain came from trade services margins, which advanced 0.4%. Margins for fuels and lubricants retailing jumped 13%, accounting for roughly half of the services increase. Margins for machinery and vehicle wholesaling declined 8.4%.

While his departure has already been confirmed, Alessio Romagnoli remains a Lazio player in name, as he has yet to sign for Al-Sadd.
The 31-year-old has been trying to push his way out of his beloved club since January, as his relationship with Lazio patron Claudio Lotito hit rock bottom, mainly due to broken promises over a pay raise. The defender was on the cusp of signing for Al-Sadd in the winter, but the talks collapsed at the eleventh hour.
Nevertheless, the Qatari champions kept their promise by launching a new attempt in the summer, and have seemingly reached the finish line. Several reliable sources in the Italian press have described the operation as a ‘done deal‘, with Lazio agreeing to sell Romagnoli for €3 million.
The centre-back even confirmed the move with a video message to the supporters that was displayed during the grand Anti-Lotito demonstration organized on July 2. And yet, the former AC Milan captain is still lingering in Rome.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport and La Lazio Siamo Noi, Romagnoli was initially expected in Doha by July 5, but his arrival was delayed, as the two parties were said to be ironing out the final details in the player’s contract. Al-Sadd were also busy appointing Razvan Lucescu as their new head coach, replacing the departing Roberto Mancini.

Manchester United "have other areas to strengthen" this transfer window as they continue their pursuit of midfield recruits, says The Devils' Advocate podcast co-host Gaz Drinkwater.
Manchester City secured United's top target Elliot Anderson at the start of the window, they were unwilling to match Tottenham's bid for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and, most recently, their move for Atalanta's Ederson collapsed after his medical despite agreeing a deal for the Brazilian at the beginning of June.
Now the club have signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are closing in on a deal for Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans, but Drinkwater believes United need to be putting their focus elsewhere.
"Left-back is a big one. Luke Shaw did very well last season and if he has the same season again then we don't need a left-back - but he's not going to, is he? And I'm not sure about his back-up," he said on the latest episode of the BBC Radio Manchester podcast.
"We don't actually have a left-winger unless Marcus Rashford is staying so maybe we keep Rashford, even though he's on a lot of money.

Manchester United have endured a difficult summer in their efforts to complete a midfield rebuild.
The Red Devils did agree a deal for Atalanta's Ederson, but his move appears to be off due to concerns the club had over his medical results.
United have also missed out on several of their targets, as Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes have all joined other clubs. They also do not appear to be in the running for Bruno Guimarães, who seems to have his heart set on a move to ******* nal this summer.
The Red Devils have agreed a deal with Chelsea for Andrey Santos, but after Ederson's collapsed move, the club still needs two more midfield signings.
Writing for the Spanish newspaper AS, journalist Eduardo Burgos has identified three players United are targeting for their midfield rebuild.

As recently as February 2026, the company was out there signing deals. A new power purchase agreement with Hankook Tire. Existing contracts with Nestle, Cargill, Mars, and Auchan. A solar pipeline of over a gigawatt under construction in Poland. ***** ody looking at it from the outside would have seen what was coming.
Three months later it had €1.1 million in the bank and $952 million in debt. On May 29, 2026, GoldenPeaks Poland Holding and 39 affiliated entities walked into the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas and filed for Chapter 11, according to Bloomberg Law.
What brought the company down started with a subsidiary. Spectris Energy was a wholly owned affiliate that handled engineering, construction, and day-to-day operations across GoldenPeaks' entire Polish solar portfolio.
In January 2026, Spectris ran into trouble of its own. Rising component costs, higher interest rates, and currency swings pushed it into remedial proceedings in a Warsaw court. Polish tax authorities froze its bank accounts. Suppliers walked. Spectris went dark.
GoldenPeaks had no employees of its own. Construction, operations, accounting, financing, land leasing, all of it ran through affiliated companies. When Spectris collapsed, GoldenPeaks had ***** ody left to run its solar farms.

Lazio are making important strides in their negotiations with Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi, but they also plan to resume Sergi Dominguez talks.
On Sunday, Italian journalist Matteo Moretto revealed that the Biancocelesti opened talks with the 28-year-old, who has become a free agent after seeing out his contract with Union Berlin.
A few hours later, transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano doubled down on the story, revealing that the two parties are making progress in their negotiations, and claiming that Lazio are confident about sealing the deal 'very soon'.
Reliable Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla confirms that Doekhi could indeed join the Italian capital side, and might not be the only defender to arrive at Formello this summer. After all, Lazio sold Mario Gila to AC Milan, while Alessio Romagnoli is finalizing his transfer to Al-Sadd, so two new signings might be required to fill in for the departing duo.
As Pedulla explains, Lazio remain **** bent on recruiting Sergi Dominguez, who is still their priority target. Although the club's sporting director Angelo Fabiani couldn't reach an agreement with Dinamo Zagreb during last week's trip to Croatia, the source insists that the Aquile remain optimistic on this front, despite reports claiming that talks have collapsed.

Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh is speaking out following his fighter's disastrous UFC 329 comeback, which saw the Irish sports star blow his knee out just seconds into a fight with Max Holloway.
McGregor, never one to start a fight in timid fashion, ratcheted things up even more for his first bout in five years. At the sound of the opening bell, "The Notorious" decided to attack with a running switch kick. The maneuver missed, and it looked like his right knee gave out from the awkward landing angle. McGregor attempted to keep fighting, but the knee collapsed out from under him multiple times before the referee stepped in and waved things off.
After five years of rabid anticipation for McGregor's return, the fight lasted just over a minute.
"Devastated," McGregor's longtime coach John Kavanagh wrote on Facebook hours after the fight. "That opening jump switch kick was drilled daily for months, multiple times in warm up. Never an issue. Knee went when he threw the very first kick."
"Doesn't get any worse than this. Looking forward to seeing my family in a few days."

An apparent knee injury snuffed out whatever magic Conor McGregor planned to rekindle in his first Ultimate Fighting Championship ****** ignment in five years.
Max Holloway was awarded an anticlimactic technical knockout over the SBG Ireland cornerstone in the first round of their UFC 329 headliner on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A disappointed and dejected McGregor (22-7, 10-5 UFC)—who had beaten the Hawaiian by unanimous decision in their first meeting in 2013—bowed out 1:09 into Round 1.
It was essentially over before it began. McGregor appeared to suffer the injury while throwing a jumping round kick inside the first 10 seconds. He collapsed on multiple occasions afterward, unable to put any weight on his right leg while he attempted to engage Holloway (28-9, 24-9 UFC). It soon became clear to all involved that McGregor was compromised to such an extent that he could not move forward with the match.
Meanwhile, former Cage Warriors champion Paddy Pimblett put Benoit St. Denis to sleep with a Peruvian necktie in the first round of their lightweight co-main event. St. Denis (17-4, 9-4 UFC) lost consciousness 52 seconds into Round 1.
Pimblett (24-4, 8-1 UFC) survived the initial burst of offense from the Frenchman and made him pay for an ill-conceived takedown attempt. The Next Generation MMA star zeroed in on St. Denis’ exposed neck, bullied him to the canvas and proceeded to tighten the strings on the necktie. Pimblett then moved to a seated position—with one leg over the back, the other over the head—and maximized torque until the onetime French Special Forces operator lost his grip on reality.
It was the second sub-minute finish for Pimblett in 28 professional appearances.
Further down the main draw, Mario Bautista avenged a January 2019 submission defeat to Cory Sandhagen and laid claim to a unanimous decision over the Elevation Fight Team rep in their three-round bantamweight rematch. All three cageside judges scored it the same: 29-28 for Bautista (18-3, 12-3 UFC).
Sandhagen (18-7, 11-6 UFC) was undone by two key moments. Bautista appeared to damage his left leg with an attempted Suloev stretch kneebar late in the first round and dropped him with a sweeping left hook in the third. The rest of their 15-minute battle was marked by give-and-take action—Sandhagen opened a cut near the MMA Lab export’s right eye in the second round—in which neither man gained a discernible advantage.
Bautista, 33, has won 10 of his past 11 bouts.
Elsewhere, Factory X mainstay Brandon Royval rebounded from back-to-back losses to Joshua Van and Manel Kape, as he dismissed Lone’er Kavanagh with a rear-naked choke in the third round of their flyweight barnburner. Kavanagh (10-2, 3-2 UFC) waved the white flag of surrender 3:40 into Round 3.
Royval (18-9, 8-5 UFC) leaned into his jab and struck for a takedown in the first round, then averted disaster in the second. There, Kavanagh set him on rubber legs with a clean right hand ov

Andoni Iraola and the transfer committee continue their behind the scenes work to transfer the team in preparation for the upcoming pre-training. Players from around the world will begin trickling back to the training centre this month and the real preparations for Iraola's inaugural season with the team will commence.
It's almost mid-July, but with the World Cup in full swing, less has been accomplished in the transfer market than Liverpool likely would have wanted at this point. The final configuration of the team is still nowhere near complete. As the summer carries on, rumours continue regarding who the transfer committee has its eyes set on.
Recently relegated Wolves are dealing with their own shake up, and Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes is one of the players who is looking to jump ship. Initially near an agreement with Atletico Madrid, the potential transfer has since collapsed.
Now reports in Brazil are that both Liverpool and Manchester United have made contact with Wolves, showing their interest in the 25-year-old. He's said to be valued by the club at about £38m.
Wolves' player of the season has proven Premier League experience and shone even while playing for struggling Wolves last season. It's also an affordable price in today's transfer market. It's unclear if this is a genuine interest from the Reds or another case of sending out feelers to see their options.

Juventus have revived their interest in Fikayo Tomori, roughly 18 months after a move for the Milan defender collapsed when the player turned it down.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via CalcioMercato, the Bianconeri are once again weighing up the centre-back, drawn to his experience and Serie A grounding, a profile that fits Luciano Spalletti's wishes.
Any deal, however, depends on outgoings. Giovanni Carnevali's hierarchy want to lighten the squad before adding to it, and Federico Gatti is among those who could make way.
Squeezed out by Bremer and seeking more regular minutes, Gatti would command a fee that generates a healthy profit, with Napoli and moves to Turkey lingering in the background as possible routes out.
