Aaron Judge has missed most of the season, but the New York Yankees are close to getting him back in the lineup.
Judge has been recovering from a fractured rib and has not played since May 31. He has started taking swings, but has yet to face velocity. However, he hopes to avoid a rehab ****** ignment before returning.
"I didn't rehab in '23 when I missed probably the same amount of time," Judge told MLB.com's Bryan Hoch on Thursday. "Why waste at-bats? Why waste anything down in a Minor League game? I've been doing this for a while now, and I've got a sense of what I need to do on the field and how to manage it."
Judge is a three-time MVP, and he should not need much time to get his timing back. Live batting practice and the Trajekt machine should provide him with enough at-bats against velocity for him to get back in the lineup without needing a rehab ****** ignment.

It's been a history-packed year for the stock market, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) catapulting to new highs and ******* e Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) rewriting Wall Street's record books with the largest-ever initial public offering.
But the highlight of 2026 might just be Kevin Warsh being sworn in as only the 17th Fed chair in the central bank's nearly 113-year history.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Warsh has wasted little time shaking things up. In his three months at the helm, he's shelved forward-looking guidance in Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting statements and has seemingly established price stability as the central bank's top priority.
However, the one thing Warsh and his FOMC colleagues haven't done is take any action amid persistently elevated inflation... and that's a mistake, according to the bond market.

On August 14, AirJoule Technologies (NASDAQ:AIRJ) reported second-quarter results that arrived alongside a striking backdrop: state governments are now blocking new data centers over water use, and AirJoule sells machines that make water out of thin air. The company posted a net loss of $8.5 million, mostly noncash, while laying out how tightening water rules in New York, Texas and California are turning into sales opportunities rather than obstacles. It is a story about regulation reshaping demand before the revenue has caught up.
New York enacted a moratorium on data center permits above 50 megawatts, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott paused new grid-connected data center approvals pending a water audit, according to CEO Matt Jore. California's own water supply strategy projects the state could lose 10% of its water supply by 2040 due to hotter, drier conditions, and any residential project of 500 units or more there now needs written proof of a 20-year water supply just to get a permit. Texas faces a similar squeeze: state water plans point to a 10% decline in supply by 2080 even as the population is expected to grow 53% in that span. AirJoule's answer is a system that pulls distilled water from humidity using low-grade waste heat, sidestepping municipal supply entirely.
That pitch just found a distribution channel. In July, AirJoule signed an exclusive sales agreement with Kubota Corporation covering residential developments in Texas and California, with two Core systems set to deploy near Corpus Christi and in Irvine this quarter. The company is also stacking up validation: a Core unit is running as a showcase at GE Vernova's new Frontier campus in Niskayuna, New York, another shipped to Expo City Dubai after AirJoule won one of the UAE's first Expo City green licenses, and the first Prime unit is headed to Europe to demonstrate data center waste-heat recovery for Net Zero Innovation Hub members including Google and Microsoft. Corporate cash stood at $41.4 million as of June 30, and combined with the joint venture's balance, AirJoule holds $43 million with zero debt.
That $8.5 million net loss included $5.1 million in noncash charges tied to the rising fair value of earnout and vesting share liabilities, a reminder that the balance sheet is exposed to swings that have nothing to do with operations. More tangibly, AirJoule raised its 2026 cash spend guidance to $27 million to $28 million, up from an earlier $25 million estimate, because commercialization is moving faster than planned. The joint venture alone burned $5 million in operating expenses during the quarter and needed another $2.5 million capital contribution from AirJoule to keep manufacturing and pilot work funded.

IndyCar president Doug Boles flew from Ontario to Washington, D.C., the evening of Aug. 16 with as much trepidation as he had optimism. Boles, who typically travels to the site of IndyCar's upcoming race mid-week, wasted no time getting to the nation's capital ahead of the series' second-biggest race of the year, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
After IndyCar and promoter Green Savoree Racing Promotions made a poor first impression – having to call off Friday's practice session – at their new street race in Markham, Ontario, it wasn't clear what awaited for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, although this race was promoted by Penske Entertainment with ****** istance from Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Harbinger.
"Honestly, I was worried just because how Canada had gone," Boles told IndyStar in an exclusive interview.
But after a dinner with Penske Corporation president Bud Denker and the chance to see the 7-turn, 1.7-mile track come to fruition, Boles realized that IndyCar was "in good shape" for Saturday and Sunday's on-track sessions.
Once President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing the IndyCar race – which was won by Kyle Kirkwood – to occur around the U.S. Capitol Building, the series had less than seven months to check every box for the new street course. (It typically takes a year, sometimes two, to set up new street circuits.)

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost the second game of their three-game series against the Atlanta Braves, 6-5, in walk-off fashion.
Roki Sasaki started the game for the Dodgers, but had to leave early due to a blister on his right middle finger. The right-hander lasted 3.1 innings, allowing six hits, two walks and four earned runs—two of which came across after he exited the game.
The first of the four runs Sasaki allowed came in the bottom of the first inning, as Matt Olson took him deep with a solo homer to right.
The Dodgers didn't waste any time in getting back to level terms, though, as Hunter Feduccia recorded his second RBI single in as many nights in the top of the second after Tommy Edman led off with a double.
Edman came up to the plate in the following inning, and gave the Dodgers their first lead of the series with a two-run homer over the wall in right field.

KO and JNJ have raised dividends for decades, but their low yields mean replacing $120K in salary demands $3M or more in capital.
Realty Income and Verizon yield 5% to 6%, cutting required capital to $2M, but dividend growth in this band slows to pennies annually.
A 12% yield that never grows from a fund losing 3% NAV yearly leaves both buying power and principal noticeably smaller after a decade.

Consider a $120,000 salary, which sits near the ceiling of median household income in expensive metros and is roughly what senior engineers, experienced nurse practitioners, and mid-career attorneys pull down before taxes. Replacing that with dividend income instead of a regular paycheck is the goal that quietly drives most late-career portfolio decisions, and the amount of capital required swings by millions depending on the yield you are willing to accept.

The Rochester Red Wings erased an early two-run deficit, but the Buffalo Bisons broke a tie with a four-run sixth inning and held on for a 6-3 victory Tuesday night at ESL Ballpark. Rochester finished with six hits, while Buffalo collected eight.
The loss dropped the Red Wings to 76-49, while Buffalo improved to 63-63. Grant Rogers earned the win for the Bisons, and Matt Krook was charged with the loss.
The Bisons wasted little time getting on the board in the opening inning. Rudy Martin Jr. walked and Jay Harry followed with a single before Sean Keys brought home the game's first run on a groundout. Yohendrick Piñango then lined an RBI single to center to score Harry and give Buffalo a 2-0 lead.
Rochester starter Zak Kent settled in afterward, allowing two runs over 2⅓ innings before Andry Lara delivered 2⅔ scoreless innings of relief to keep the game within reach.
The Red Wings responded in the fifth.

A 4% yield requires $2.34 million in capital versus $936,000 at 10%, but high yields risk NAV erosion and return-of-capital distributions.
Dividend-growth stocks at 4% compounding 7% annually produce roughly $184,000 in year 10, versus a flat $93,600 from a 10% high-yield portfolio.
Auditing actual after-tax spending may reveal you only need $6,000 monthly instead of $7,800, reducing required portfolio capital by $500,000.

Replacing $7,800 a month, or $93,600 a year, from dividends is a specific number with a specific answer: it depends entirely on the yield you accept. The right yield choice is the difference between a portfolio that grows into an inflation hedge and one that quietly liquidates itself while paying you back with your own principal. This piece lays out the capital math at three yield tiers, using durable dividend payers as anchors, and flags where the yield trap risk actually lives.

Juventus are continuing to trim fat, but it's still not enough to finally table their offer for Frank Kessié, and Roma have entered the race, joining Al-Ittihad and other Saudi sides that would cover him in gold to keep him in their league, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
After releasing Arthur Melo, the Bianconeri will bid farewell to Fabio Miretti. He'll move to Besiktas, like Dusan Vlahovic, on a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. The Old Lady also completed Michele Di Gregorio's exit and Kamil Grabara's arrival, with a temporary formula with a €12M acquisition clause. Instead, Mattia Perin transferred to Palermo on a €500k move.
On the other hand, the recent departures don't suffice yet for Juventus to really step up their Kessié pursuit. They have to find a solution for the burdensome Teun Koopmeiners, Jonathan David, and Nicolas Gonzalez. Juan Cabal and Arkadiusz Milik are also on the chopping block.
In the meantime, Roma have shown some interest in the Ivorian powerhouse, who broke out under Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta. They have skirted the Manchester United threat for Manu Koné, as the Red Devils completed their midfield with Carlos Baleba. Other sides could be keen on him, but Neil El Aynaoui is a more precarious spot now.
They shouldn't waste any more time and should sign him in after managing to have a hold on him for so long, and worry about the departures later. Koopmeiners is the main Gordian knot, but there may also be issues with his personal terms. It's been a while since the capital club signed a veteran with bloated wages, even though Gasperini surely wouldn't mind.

Generating $98,400 annually in dividends requires anywhere from $820K at a 12% yield to $2.81M at a conservative 3.5% yield.
Choosing high-yield REITs and BDCs over qualified dividend stocks can cost a married couple somewhere between $15,000 and $20,000 more in annual taxes at the same income level.
A 3.5% yield growing 8% annually doubles income in roughly 9 years, while high-yield portfolios with eroding NAVs can leave investors poorer in real terms.

Let's run the math on what it actually takes to replace $8,200 a month in dividend income. That works out to $98,400 a year before taxes. To put that in perspective, it is roughly what a mid-career software engineer or a hospital pharmacist takes home, or what a two-earner household clearing six figures actually spends after payroll deductions and savings are taken out. The amount of capital you need to generate that income hinges entirely on the yield you are willing to accept, and what you keep after taxes depends on where those dividends come from and which state you call home.

WEST LONG BRANCH -- There was theme among the songs that blared through the speakers at Kessler Stadium as Monmouth football practice got started Tuesday morning: Tennessee.
The Osborne Brothers' classic rendition of Rocky Top was the soundtrack for the opening stretches. It's a reminder that this is no longer training camp, it's game week. There are just a few days until No. 23 Monmouth will travel to Cookeville to take on No. 15 Tennessee Tech in a rare season-opening matchup of top 25 teams in the FCS. And the Hawks didn't waste anytime beginning to attack that challenge, going straight from stretch lines to 11-on-11 reps of hurry-up offense.
"It's a group that's got something to prove," Monmouth head coach Jeff Gallo said. "This team has something to prove as a collective unit. It's got talent, it's got ability, but it's about our ability every day to keep elevating the standard of our program and push that championship level on a daily basis."
No. 23 Monmouth football vs. No. 15 Tennessee Tech in Week 0: preview
The Hawks' first matchup is a chance to prove that they are at that championship level—or that more work is needed to reach it. Monmouth is on the national radar once again with a preseason top 25 ranking, but that could quickly slip away with a loss, or surge dramatically with a win.

Generating $3,100 a month in dividends requires $1.06M at a 3.5% yield, but only $372,000 at a 10% yield.
High-yield portfolios often erode principal over time, while a 3.5% dividend growing 8% annually doubles income in just nine years.
Barbelling dividend-growth stocks with a monthly payer like O targets a ~4% blended yield, requiring roughly $930,000 in capital.

Replacing $3,100 a month in dividend income means generating $37,200 a year from a portfolio you build yourself. That number lands between a Social Security supplement and a modest salary replacement, and hitting it is a math problem before it is an investing problem. Divide the income target by the yield your portfolio earns, and you get the capital required. This piece walks through what that capital looks like at three yield tiers, using dividend-payer examples from the current market, and explains why the highest yield rarely produces the best long-term result.

Caleb put $10,000 down on a lease to reach $240 monthly payments, then drove 4,000 miles over the cap with 13 months left.
Kamel explains leases charge you for a car's steepest depreciation years, leaving a large cash down payment with zero recoverable equity.
Kamel recommends a lease buyout as the best exit if the contract residual falls below market value, letting you sell the car for a profit.

An embarrassing Champions League exit Tuesday for Celtic in the qualifying playoffs somehow was even worse than last year.
Meltdown. Implosion. Humiliation.
Celtic led 4-0 on aggregate score Tuesday after a half hour of the second leg in Austria, yet five unanswered goals by LASK — the fifth and decisive one coming in extra time of a 5-1 win — still felt like coach Martin O'Neill's team got off lightly with a 5-4 loss on aggregate score.
It is now two straight years the Scottish **** le holder has wasted clear chances to play on the lucrative biggest stage of European club soccer by losing in late-August to an unheralded team advancing for the very first time.
"We were far too passive. We don't have any excuses," said Callum McGregor, the Celtic captain whose 21st-minute goal Tuesday had seemed likely to secure the Champions League entry.

RMDs are locked to the prior December 31 balance, so a midyear IRA collapse from $100,000 to $16,000 still requires the full withdrawal.
A $4,065 RMD can trigger a 'tax torpedo,' pushing Social Security into taxable income and adding roughly $6,820 to total gross income.
Retirees 70½ or older can use a Qualified Charitable Distribution to satisfy the RMD without adding to adjusted gross income, reducing the Social Security tax hit.

A retired man in his mid-seventies ended December with approximately $100,000 in a traditional IRA. Much of it sat in a private-credit investment he had treated as a conservative source of income. Then the investment collapsed. By summer, his account was worth approximately $16,000. He called the custodian expecting his required minimum distribution (RMD) to fall with it. It did not.

The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 killed the restricted application strategy for anyone born after January 1, 1954, closing it to all new claimants by 2026.
Deemed filing now forces spouses to claim both spousal and personal retirement benefits simultaneously, eliminating the ability to collect one while the other grows.
Couples can still delay the higher earner's benefit to 70 for roughly 8% annual growth, and sequence survivor benefits separately from retirement benefits.

Picture a couple in their mid-sixties. Linda spent 35 years as a hospital administrator; Mark earned less as a school counselor. As they plan their Social Security claims, Linda remembers the move her older sister used years ago. She collected a spousal check while allowing the benefit on her own work record to grow until 70. Then she then dropped the smaller payment and switched to her larger one.

UTMA custodial accounts irrevocably transfer to the grandchild at age 21, giving them full legal control to spend the money however they choose.
A 529 keeps the owner in control indefinitely and allows penalty-free beneficiary reassignments or a $35,000 Roth IRA rollover under SECURE 2.0.
California and a few states let donors extend UTMA control to age 25, but once the account opens, the termination age in the paperwork is locked.

A custodial account opened for a grandchild under the Uniform Transfers to Minors Act transfers to the beneficiary at the state's age of termination, typically 21. At that point, the new adult owner controls how the funds are spent, and the former custodian has no legal authority over the account. A 529 college savings plan operates differently, with the account owner retaining control indefinitely. The distinction between a UTMA custodial account and a 529 plan matters for grandparents evaluating how to structure gifts to minors.

American States Water (NYSE: AWR) rather quietly raised its dividend by 8.2% last month. This pay ***** p extended its dividend growth streak to an impressive 72 straight years. That kept its name at the top of the Dividend Kings list as it remains one of fewer than 60 companies with 50 or more years of annual dividend increases. The sleepy water utility has now paid 361 consecutive quarterly dividends.
Here's why more investors should be talking about this boring utility stock.

American States Water doesn't have the name recognition of other Dividend Kings, like Coca-Cola or Johnson & Johnson, because it's not an iconic consumer brand. Instead, it's easily confused with another water utility, American Water Works, which is the largest regulated water and wastewater utility in the country with over 14 million customers across 14 states.
American States Water, on the other hand, has 1 million customers in 10 states. It operates two utilities, Golden State Water Company and Bear Valley Electric Services, which provide regulated water and electricity services to customers in California. It also owns American States Utility Services, which operates and maintains water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment facilities at 12 military bases under long-term contracts. Those boring businesses generate very stable cash flow.

Solo retirement in The Villages runs roughly $60,000 a year, and with Social Security covering about $24,000 annually, the required portfolio falls somewhere between $900,000 and $1.03 million.
Survivor rules pay only the higher Social Security benefit, cutting roughly $19,000 in annual income while The Villages' fixed costs stay nearly unchanged.
Delaying Social Security to age 70 adds between $700 and $900 monthly and trims the required portfolio by roughly $200,000, hardening the plan against bad market years.

The pitch for The Villages is almost always drawn as a couple. Two people in a golf cart, matching polos, a shared front porch. Financial planning tends to follow the same picture: joint Social Security, one homeowner's insurance policy, food and utilities split between two. Then life edits the plan. A spouse dies, a marriage ends, or the move happens years after being widowed, and the same house, the same amenity fee, the same square footage now has one person paying for it. The question is what that actually costs and what portfolio makes it work.

A 65-year-old on average Social Security needs just $125,000 invested to bridge the gap to $2,500 a month in Myrtle Beach.
Coastal wind, flood, and hazard insurance stacks to between $6,000 and $9,000 annually, consuming up to 30% of a $30,000 retirement budget.
Early retirees between ages 55 and 60 who lack Social Security income need between $800,000 and $900,000 and must engineer an ACA healthcare bridge before relocating.

A common question is whether you can retire near the ocean on modest money. South Carolina taxes lightly, the Grand Strand stays warm, and $2,500 a month, which is roughly the average Social Security check plus a small supplement, feels like it ought to stretch pretty far. The real question is whether the math actually holds once you price in coastal reality. It can, but only under specific choices, and the trap most planners overlook involves coastal insurance costs rather than everyday expenses.

Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) and Marvell Technology (NASDAQ: MRVL) are eerily similar companies. Both of them produce networking equipment for data centers, but they have also launched custom AI chip businesses with a few critical customers. Custom AI chips are likely to grow in popularity, as they can offer superior cost performance to traditional GPU-based training.
This primes both stocks to benefit as these units become more popular. But which one is the better buy? I think there's one metric that settles the debate.

To date, most training and inference has been performed on graphics processing units (GPUs), mostly made by Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). GPUs are incredible computing units, and are great for a wide variety of workloads. The amount of flexibility that Nvidia has designed into its computing unit is amazing, but if a GPU only sees one workload type during its whole service life, then this flexibility is wasted. GPUs are still necessary in the computing landscape, as there are several reasons why GPUs should still be utilized; however, custom AI chips could provide better performance in some areas.
Custom AI chips are known as ASICs, application-specific integrated circuits. ASICs are nothing new, but their application to AI is. By building a computing chip around a workload rather than the other way around, designers can optimize and make these products efficient and cost-effective. This leads to more computing power at a lower cost, often outperforming GPU-based computing.

What follows walks through the actual cost picture in current dollars, the portfolio target that budget implies, and the tax mechanic most buyers overlook until they file that first return.

Three income buckets slash the capital required to hit $79,200 annually, ranging from $2.26M for conservative dividend growers down to $660K for high-yield BDCs.
A dividend stream growing at 8% annually doubles in nine years, while a flat high-yield payout stagnates and can shrink if underlying principal erodes.
REIT and BDC distributions are taxed up to 37% as ordinary income versus 20% for qualified dividends, potentially erasing the high-yield tier's income advantage.

Replacing $6,600 a month in dividend income means engineering a portfolio that throws off $79,200 a year in cash. That is roughly what a comfortable retirement runs in most of the country, and it is the number a lot of pre-retirees quietly benchmark against. The capital you need depends almost entirely on one variable, which is the yield you are willing to reach for.

Camping one weekend on riverfront land held inside a self-directed IRA can trigger a prohibited transaction, deeming the entire account's value as taxable income, even if that value reaches $900,000.
That $900,000 income spike pushes the owner into Medicare's highest IRMAA bracket two years later, raising premiums by $578 a month or $6,936 a year.
IRA owners can avoid disqualification by never personally using or improving the property, and consulting a tax professional before setting foot on it.

Think about what it takes to collect $11,800 every month purely from dividends, never selling a single share. That works out to $141,600 over the course of a year, roughly what a physician ***** istant earns, or about what a comfortable retirement costs in an expensive coastal city. The amount of capital you need to make that happen swings wildly based on the yield you target, and the compromises you make at each yield level are really what this whole exercise is about.
At a blended 3.5% portfolio yield, $141,600 divided by 0.035 requires roughly $4 million in capital. At 4%, the number drops to about $3.5 million. This is the dividend-growth lane, populated by companies that raise their payout every year and let the income stream outrun inflation.

CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) — A mountainous heap of refuse collapsed at the largest landfill in Guinea 's capital of Conakry early on Sunday, killing 30 people, according to the central government.
Authorities said that heavy rains, which started at around 2 a.m., washed over the refuse at Dar Es Salam — the largest landfill in Conakry — and triggered a landslide that buried nearby shacks. A search and rescue operation was underway to find survivors. Six people were seriously injured and several homes were destroyed.
The site, an open-air waste dump which is the largest in the city, had been designated for closure on Sunday, according to Lt. Col. Baldé Mamadou Bailo, the sanitation officer for the military engineering battalion.
Locals living around the landfill had been given eviction notices, which forced many to leave the area, but many others were still around at the time of the disaster, according to authorities.
"We will ensure that the remaining families are relocated elsewhere," Dienabou Touré, the minister of territorial administration and decentralization, said at the scene.

Super Bowl champion Shannon Sharpe took aim at Enes Kanter on an episode of his "Nightcap" podcast, accusing the former NBA player of "rage baiting" for attention. Sharpe, alongside Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson and former NBA All-Star Joe Johnson, questioned Kanter's motives after he was ejected from a WNBA game following a heated exchange with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

Sharpe and his co-hosts wasted no time calling out Kanter during an episode of "Nightcap," saying the former Boston Celtics player only attended to draw attention to himself and make a ruckus. "He probably ain't never been to no WNBA game. Then go there just to be the agitator, just cause ruckus, just to make the headlines. Come on, bro, what we doing?" Joe Johnson said.
Sharpe didn't seem as annoyed as others, saying Kanter's motive is likely to rile people up so he can garner attention. "He's rage baiting. Then he's gonna run to Fox News and talk about, 'See, this is what I'm talking about, they're not inclusive. They wanna have their cake and eat it too' and yada yada yada yada yada," he said.
Sharpe didn't end there; the 8X Pro-Bowler even came for Kanter's ability to perform, saying if he "were good," he'd still be in the NBA. "His own home country don't want him back," Sharpe said.
