WASHINGTON (AP) — Iran state media on Monday said a ballistic missile with improved capabilities was demonstrating a new doctrine: Tehran "will take action against any threat, even before it is carried out."
The report by Iran's state news agency repeatedly cited comments aired on state TV the day before by the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, who boasted of new missile capability and claimed it had been "tested" against a U.S. warship. But it was not clear whether what was tested was the missile the new report described, the solid-fueled Qassem Basir.
The U.S. on Saturday said ballistic missiles were launched at U.S. warships and it struck three Iranian oil tankers in response. Experts called the launch a dangerous escalation, noting that until then Iran's attacks at sea had targeted commercial shipping during six months of war. The U.S. said the warships evaded the attacks.
Iran's messaging in recent days has become more ***** ertive, and Monday's report said the Qassem Basir marks "a turning point in Iran's defense strategy." It described the missile as having greater range and accuracy and a half-ton warhead. The missile was unveiled last year, when it was described as having at least a 1,200-kilometer (745-mile) range.
Concerns about Iran's ballistic missile program were one of the stated reasons the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran early this year, sparking the war.

The Wisconsin Badgers are in primetime to start the season, as they're taking on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Lambeau Field on Sunday, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. on NBC.
Wisconsin is coming off a 4-8 season, which was their worst season by win percentage since 1990. But this year's Badgers are quite different, as the program added over 30 transfers in the offseason, while making a few organizational changes with the coaching staff and front office.
Wisconsin's offense will be at the forefront of the conversation, as the Badgers are now led by Old Dominion transfer quarterback Colton Joseph, who threw for 2,624 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 10 touchdowns last year as the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year. Michigan's win over Western Michigan and the Big Ten's ensuing explanation are further proof that it's long past time for the NFL and college football to use game clocks that show fractions of a second.
The No. 16 Wolverines beat the Broncos 13-12 on Saturday night on Bryce Underwood's Hail Mary to JJ Buchanan as time expired. It's an incredible throw and catch; Underwood fired a rocket as he was getting hit and Buchanan went up in traffic to make a fantastic contested grab. But it's also a play that isn't getting the appreciation it deserves because of the way the end of the game unfolded.
Underwood's throw was his second Hail Mary attempt. His first sailed out of the back of the end zone and didn't touch WMU's Micah Davis until there was no time remaining on the clocks that NBC viewers saw at home. As WMU celebrated, it was clear to anyone watching the game from their house or local sports bar that one of the biggest upsets of the season had just happened.
Except, it didn't.
Officials declared that there was one second remaining on the game clock when Davis, who jumped from out of bounds, touched the football. Hours after the play was over, the Big Ten issued a statement explaining the decision and showing a video of the game clock synced to an angle of the play where you can't conclusively see exactly when Davis touched the football. However, it is clear from that footage that the Big Ten's official clock was still showing 0:01 after the ball made contact with Davis.

BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Israel's military has cleared Hezbollah fighters holed up in tunnels under the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Friday, though the Iran-backed group did not immediately comment.
Israel had said Hezbollah fighters were ‌embedded in tunnels under the ridge, which overlooks a wide area and had become one of the most hotly contested areas in the Israel-Hezbollah war, despite ‌a ceasefire announced in June.
Reuters reported on Thursday that Iran had warned the United States last month that it would respond forcefully to an Israeli ****** ault on its Hezbollah allies' positions within the ridge.
"The mission was completed and the tunnels were cleared of terrorists," Katz said on social media, after a statement by the military late on Thursday saying it had operational control of the ridge.

Iowa started its 2026 campaign in style on Saturday afternoon.
In front of a sold-out Kinnick Stadium, the Hawkeyes completely dominated Northern Illinois on their way to a 40-0 victory. Kirk Ferentz's team took care of business in all three phases of the game to help Iowa open the season with a win. Despite the caliber of the opponent, there was still a lot to like and learn from this game.
The Hawkeyes may have found a winner in the highly contested starting quarterback battle. Phil Parker's defense showed out. And Iowa's return game seems to be in a really good spot. Here's the complete list of takeaways from Iowa's stomping of the Huskies on Saturday.
All eyes were on the Iowa quarterbacks on Saturday. And both guys showed off some good stuff. Hank Brown went 12-of-20 for 129 yards and a touchdown. He didn't play a snap in the second half. The 6-foot-4 signal caller had zip on his passes and made great reads. He has a great arm, which led to a few overthrows and missed opportunities. Outside of those, this was an excellent season debut for Brown.
Jeremy Hecklinski finished the game going 7-of-16 for 76 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. He displayed a good rapport with the tight ends and Reece Vander Zee. Like Brown, he missed a few golden opportunities. He also threw a pick in the end zone on a fourth-and-goal. It was far from perfect, but Hecklinski still showed some promise.

The crypto market—including Bitcoin and altcoins like XRP, Ethereum, and BNB—is riding a bullish wave of momentum in the U.S. stock market, seemingly triggered by fresh comments from the Federal Reserve, and sending short sellers to goblintown.
Bitcoin punched back above $80,000 on Thursday, trading near $80,270 and up close to 3% over the past 24 hours. Ethereum is closing in on $2,500, up 2.2% today, while XRP is up a whopping 6% in the last 24 hours. The spike has accounted for at least $327 million in liquidated short positions in the last hour alone, and more than $415 million in the past 24 hours.
The catalyst appears to be comments from Fed Governor Christopher Waller, who, in prepared remarks at a Reuters NEXT Newsmaker interview, said he'd be "inclined to support" holding the Fed's benchmark interest rate at its current level if upcoming inflation data keeps improving.
Traders took the hint. The odds of a rate hike at the Fed's September 15-16 meeting fell to 50.4%, down from 63.2% a day earlier, according to the CME FedWatch tool, a market gauge that estimates the odds of Fed moves from futures prices. The 10-year Treasury yield, a benchmark for borrowing costs economy-wide that had touched its highest level since November 2023 a day earlier, dropped to around 4.73%.
It's a sharp reversal from a week ago. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole keynote had knocked Bitcoin down to $76,877 and pushed hike odds toward 56%. Thursday's bounce puts Bitcoin back at a level it's tested—and failed to hold—several times this year.

On August 13, Kodiak Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ:KOD) reported second-quarter financial results for the period ended June 30, alongside an update on its three late-stage eye disease programs. The clinical-stage biotech told investors it now sits within months of three separate Phase 3 readouts, a stretch CEO Victor Perlroth called the payoff of years of disciplined execution. For a company with no approved products and a widening cash burn, those trial results are about to decide a lot.
Kodiak's near-term story rests on Zenkuda and KSI-501, both being tested in the Phase 3 DAYBREAK study for treatment-naive wet age-related macular degeneration, with one-year primary endpoint topline data due in September 2026. Zenkuda already has four completed Phase 3 studies behind it. In GLOW1 and GLOW2, every patient remained on extended six-month dosing at one year, and in BEACON, nearly half of Zenkuda patients needed no further treatment in the second six months while matching aflibercept on vision and anatomical outcomes. That durability comes from a mean ocular half-life of 20 days, roughly three times longer than approved anti-VEGF drugs.
Behind DAYBREAK sits PEAK, evaluating KSI-101 in macular edema secondary to inflammation, where Kodiak finished enrolling the first 300-patient cohort during the quarter and expects Pivotal ***** ysis 1 data in December 2026. Earlier Phase 1b data showed more than half of MESI patients gaining at least 15 letters of vision, with over 90% resolution of retinal fluid by week eight. Kodiak also began enrolling patients in the roughly 910-patient ALTO study testing KSI-501 against aflibercept in diabetic macular edema, its second registrational trial for that molecule. Zenkuda and KSI-501 together are aimed at a $15 billion anti-VEGF market.
None of that comes cheap. Kodiak's net loss widened to $65.6 million in the second quarter of 2026, or $1.05 per share, up from $54.3 million and $1.03 per share a year earlier. R&D spending jumped to $56.1 million from $42.8 million, as the company ramped up clinical activity across PEAK and PINNACLE and stepped up manufacturing for its Phase 3 programs. General and administrative costs eased slightly to $10.8 million from $12.8 million, but that was not enough to offset the R&D increase.
Kodiak ended the quarter with $125.9 million in cash and equivalents, which management says covers operations into 2027, but working capital fell from $169.3 million at the end of 2025 to $78.6 million by June 30, and stockholders' equity dropped from $157.4 million to $61.1 million over the same stretch. With three separate trials due to report between September and December, any delay or disappointing result would hit a balance sheet that already has less room to absorb it.

On August 5, LTC Properties (NYSE:LTC) reported second-quarter results for the period ended June 30, 2026, and the numbers show a real estate investment trust leaning harder into a strategy it only started a year ago. Total revenue climbed to $98.9 million from $60.2 million a year earlier, and net income available to common stockholders nearly doubled to $29.5 million. Diluted earnings per share rose to $0.56 from $0.32. Alongside the results, the company raised its full-year 2026 investment guidance by 50% at the midpoint, putting more weight behind a business line called SHOP.
LTC increased the midpoint of its 2026 SHOP investment guidance to $900 million, calling that figure a jump of 50% from the previous midpoint. Management now expects $700 million in year-to-date SHOP acquisitions by the end of the third quarter, and projects SHOP will represent 40% of pro forma annualized net operating income by that same point, which the company says is ahead of its own estimates. LTC expects that share to approach 50% by year-end, with a stated pathway toward 75% by the end of 2028.
Since launching the platform in May 2025, LTC has built the SHOP portfolio to 39 communities across 12 operators, 10 of which are new relationships for the company, representing 37% of total gross real estate investments as of July 31, 2026. Second quarter core SHOP NOI came in at $13.3 million. The company closed $171 million in acquisitions during the quarter and expects another $529 million to close in the third quarter, with $208 million of that already done. LTC also raised its full-year diluted earnings per share guidance to $8.08 to $8.10 and expanded its credit facility to $1.1 billion, leaving $648 million in total pro forma liquidity.
Growth this fast comes with a cost that shows up once you move past revenue. Core FFO per diluted share held flat at $0.68, unchanged from a year earlier even though revenue grew 64%. Core FAD per diluted share actually slipped to $0.70 from $0.71. Part of the explanation is share count. Diluted weighted average shares outstanding rose to 52.2 million from 46.0 million, and total shares outstanding climbed to 53.9 million from 46.1 million, dilution that has kept per-share growth well behind the topline.
Expenses grew just as fast as revenue did. Total expenses nearly doubled to $75.5 million from $44.5 million, with senior housing operating expenses, the direct cost of running SHOP, jumping to $42.2 million from $9.4 million as the new segment scaled up. Interest expense rose to $9.5 million from $8.0 million, and $356 million remains drawn on the revolving credit line even after that facility's expansion. SHOP also depends on the 12 third-party operators running those communities day to day, 10 of which have never worked with LTC before, concentrating execution risk in relationships still being tested.

Tochukwu Nnadi sustained a more serious injury. The Nigerian only came on at half-time but did not see out the match. He withdrew with what looked to be a serious knee injury. An ACL injury was feared. The injury is indeed serious, and it is suspected that it is an ACL. Speaking to La Provence, Nnadi's agent revealed that many consultants advised immediate surgery.
However, he has opted against surgery in order to ensure a quicker return. "We are aware of the risks. We know that he could feel pain. We know that it won't be easy, but it is Nnadi's decision," said his agent, who added that the midfielder "could not abandon OM at such a time".
Genesio is lacking options in midfield. Speaking on Friday, he revealed that he had tested full-back Ulisses Garcia in the position.

Solana (SOL) hit a sell wall at $110 and has been progressively retreating since then, as expectations concerning interest rates shifted in the past few days.
Following the Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole summit last week, ***** ysts revisited their projections for interest rate decisions for September, upping their odds of a 25 basis point rate hike from 36% to 66%.
This prompted a wave of selling that has pushed SOL down to the $100 psychological threshold. However, the token could keep dropping, as this price zone has not yet proven to be a contested level.
Trading volumes have been dropping in the past few days, heading down to $3 billion after temporarily hitting $8 billion on August 21.
This indicates that investors' interest in the token at this level is still weak. This could set the stage for a sustained decline to lower areas where a higher volume of buy orders may be sitting.

As its standoff with LSU intensifies, the SEC is receiving some support from beyond the conference and its member universities.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr is encouraging SEC commissioner Greg Sankey to take "all measures available" against the Tigers if they field a team featuring former NFL players returning to college, and to "use all legal means necessary to protect the University of Georgia, student athletes, and the integrity of college athletics," according to a letter from Carr to Sankey obtained by ESPN on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Those potential punishments could escalate to suspending and/or removing LSU from the conference, of which it has been a member since the league's founding in 1932.

Manchester United scrambled for a left-back in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
On Tuesday, it emerged that United explored the possibility of signing Manchester City full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri and tested their luck once again for Alejandro Balde. Ultimately, the Red Devils walked away as they had no interest in a permanent move for either.
It has been widely suggested that United did not invest in a high-profile left-back to keep the path clear for Lewis Hall, who could be targeted next summer after Newcastle United refused to open the exit door this time around.
As such, for the first time in seven years, United did not make a deadline day signing, much to the disappointment of many fans.

In the season opener last fall, the Miami Hurricanes knocked off Notre Dame 27-24, in a highly contested battle.
It was a victory that propelled Miami all the way to the College Football Playoff **** le game, where they ultimately fell to Indiana. The Hurricane offense lost elite offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, quarterback Carson Beck, offensive linemen Markel Bell and Anez Cooper along with wide receiver CJ Daniels to the NFL draft. That's a good amount of talent gone from a pretty solid offense, but there are some that believe Miami will be better this fall.
Recently, 247Sports Brad Crawford was asked about the Hurricanes offensive outlook for this season and he thinks it will be the best offense they've had under head coach Mario Cristobal. He'd go on to say "I think this is the best transfer quarterback Miami has gotten … Darian Mensah, I think he should be the preseason Heisman frontrunner."
Crawford is high on the running backs and wide receivers, but one area where he's a bit concerned is on offensive line. "Maybe if there's one question Miami has … that would be it," as he noted the addition of 5-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell.
This game has been circled on Notre Dame's schedule since the heartbreaking loss last year, and revenge would be sweet. The Irish defense should be one of the best in the country, and should be able to neutralize the Hurricane attack.

Team USA coach Kara Lawson isn't sugarcoating the fact winning 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup gold will be challenging.
The U.S. women have largely dominated their international competition winning eight straight Olympic gold medals and nine of the last 12 World Cups dating back to 1979. The field is getting better and Team USA could have an uphill battle in this World Cup, which begins Friday, Sept. 4.
"There's no question that the world is improving at a rapid rate. It's so exciting to see, and I see it at every level, obviously, being a college coach," Lawson said Tuesday. "... That's an obvious statement that the world is improving. It has continued to improve, and there's more depth to teams at the World Cup,"
"Now, when you look at rosters, there's a number of just high-quality players. The depth of these rosters is really strong. I think it's gonna be the most difficult World Cup to win that we've had because of that, which is exciting. I mean, you should want it to be difficult, you know? It should be hard to win. It's a World Cup, you know?"
The depth of USA Basketball will all but certainly be tested.

For the second year in a row, the Cleveland Browns double-dipped early at a key offensive position in the NFL Draft. In 2025, Cleveland took Quinshon Judkins in round two and took Dylan Sampson in round four. This year, Cleveland took wide receiver KC Concepcion in round one and followed up with Denzel Boston in round two. Similarly to 2025, a 2026 rookie has seemingly locked down a starting role in this offense.
The staff over at ESPN went through and gave the rookie outlook for all 32 NFL teams, and noted that Concepcion is going to be a real weapon for this offense and wants to get him the ball early and often:
Concepcion has been a dynamic addition to the Browns' offense. Coach Todd Monken is using Concepcion in a role similar to the one he created for Zay Flowers in Baltimore, with plenty of motion and a variety of touches. Monken envisions a versatile role for Concepcion as a rookie -- possibly as a punt returner, too. "We've got to find a number of ways to get him the ball with his explosiveness, his quickness, his contact balance," Monken said. "He's going to be a real weapon for us."
Boston also got plenty of praise, with ***** ysts saying his "contested-catch ability and reliable hands" should have him playing the X receiver next to Concepcion. Overall, there is a lot to like about what Cleveland is building on offense.

For the Penn State offense, the goal for the upcoming season is simple: prove that you can compete in the Big Ten. With a whole lot of transfers coming in, this will be the first time some of these players are put to the test. And perhaps no other offensive position group is under more pressure than the wide receivers, specifically Iowa State transfer Brett Eskildsen.
As the leading receiver for the Cyclones last season, Eskildsen profiles as a physical WR1 who can win on the boundary and show strength after the catch. At 6-1, 198 pounds, Eskildsen offers a speed/power combo that could translate pretty well to the Big Ten. Last season, he had 523 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Cyclones' offense, but more impressively, he averaged 17.53 yards per reception as well. As a result, he was awarded All-Big 12 honorable mention honors.
To start the season, Eskildsen will be up against a Marshall secondary that may be one of the more underrated units in the country. Expect Eskildsen to be utilized heavily in the red zone, where he can make key contested plays, and also in late-down situations where he can win. While Week 1 won't be a true test of Eskildsen's abilities, Penn State fans will hope to see a flash of a player who can revive what has proved to be a weak position group for the Nittany Lions in the past.

WBO president Gustavo Olivieri has categorically denied Hamzah Sheeraz's allegations of corruption after Janibek Alimkhanuly was installed as the mandatory challenger for Sheeraz's WBO super middleweight ******* le.
Alimkhanuly, the former unified middleweight champion, failed a VADA anti-doping test for a banned substance just days before his scheduled three-belt unification with Erislandy Lara this past December.
The fight was canceled, but the WBO later terminated Alimkhanuly's suspension early and has now controversially installed him as Sheeraz's mandatory challanger, despite Alimkhanuly having never competed at 168 pounds.
Sheeraz was unhappy with the WBO's ruling and made his feelings clear in an interview with Uncrowned's Ariel Helwani this past month.
"I think it's a joke," Sheeraz said. "I think what the WBO have done here is disgraceful to the sport of boxing. What they're essentially doing is rewarding someone who has [tested positive], so to me, it doesn't make sense.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stefanos Tsitsipas was not surprised that Nick Kyrgios was suspended from tennis for drugs.
"Pretty much expected, to be honest," Tsitsipas said. "I am surprised it came so late, though."
Kyrgios was banned earlier this month after he revealed he tested positive for cocaine in June when he was in Spain to play at an event. The Australian could be suspended for four years, though a lighter punishment is expected.
Tsitsipas was asked about Kyrgios on Monday after upsetting No. 10-seeded Arthur Fils in the first round of the U.S. Open.
"I mean, to be entirely honest with you, I knew about this before the announcement. Myself, I knew about it," Tsitsipas said.

What followed over the next 271 minutes was an exhibition of restraint and disciplined batsmanship as Tilak Varma (106 batting, 225b, 7x4) and Shreyas Gopal (87, 169b, 11x4) took centre stage with a 175-run sixth-wicket partnership. Their stand eventually turned the tide, helping South secure a first-innings lead. They were 285/9 at stumps, 90 runs ahead on the second day.

Having curbed his instincts and reached his fifty without a boundary, the Hyderabad batter gradually shifted gears.

Shreyas, meanwhile, completed his fifty in 107 ******* and looked in control as he appeared on course for his seventh first-class hundred. But pacer Arshdeep Singh ended his vigil when he edged one through to stand-in wicketkeeper Abdul Samad.

With South's tail beginning to crumble, Tilak was in danger of missing out on a deserved century. The Hyderabad batter, though, held his nerve, smashing two successive fours off Gurnoor to bring up his eighth first-class hundred in 219 ******* .

Interestingly, all seven of Tilak's fours came after he reached his fifty — a reflection of the restraint that underpinned his innings. With South nine down, he will be eager to carry that momentum into the third day and stretch their lead into three figures and beyond.
