A troublesome reality is staring down Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren, who is seemingly primed for a smaller role in 2026.
Per Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Rico Dowdle has emerged as the RB1 early in training camp, which isn't exactly great news for Warren heading into Year 5.
"Now 4 practices into camp, a couple of offensive depth chart declarations seem clear: Rico Dowdle is RB1 over Jaylen Warren, Roman Wilson is WR3 (well ahead of Germie Bernard)," Adamski wrote via X.
Warren spent the first three seasons of his career behind Najee Harris as a solid RB2 before emerging as the starting running back in 2025. Over the past four seasons, Warren has recorded 3,859 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns, including an impressive career average of 5.3 yards per touch.
Dowdle, who previously spent time with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy on the Dallas Cowboys, is on the verge of history heading into 2026, as he could become the first running back to record three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons with three different teams.

The Dodgers are acquiring the biggest name of the trade deadline season, adding Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal in a blockbuster deal that bolsters their starting rotation and sent shock waves across Major League Baseball on Saturday night.
The deal, according to people with knowledge of the trade not authorized to speak publicly, comes ahead of Monday's trade deadline. The Dodgers are sending prospects Zyhir Hope, River Ryan and Brady Smith to Detroit in exchange for the 29-year-old two-time American League Cy Young Award winner.
Skubal joins a rotation that was already expected to be strengthened by the return of Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow but still had question marks, particularly with Shohei Ohtani continuing to deal with a troublesome left knee.
But now with Skubal joining a rotation that features All-Stars Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Wrobleski along with an improving Roki Sasaki, the pitching staff has been fortified and has considerably more flexibility as the Dodgers look ahead to the postseason and a run at a third consecutive World Series ***** le.

Chivas at times dominated but were only able to get a 1-1 tie against Puebla. Chivas was the better side from the start but their scoring troubles continued as they were only able to get a single goal against a Puebla side that looked to defend and counter from the start, giving away most possession. Both teams are going to the Leagues Cup before returning to Liga MX. Puebla will travel to Pachuca in their return while Chivas plays against Santos in Torreon.
The 1st half started with Chivas coming out with their best 11 including Brian Gutierrez from the start. Armando Gonzalez got into the area but his right footed shot would go wide. Roberto Alvarado got off a great left footed shot that was blocked by Puebla's goalkeeper, Ricardo Gutierrez. He would leave the ball there for Gonzalez go get a close range header but Gutierrez made a fantastic save to stop him from a sure goal. Gonzalez got into the area and his left footed shot was blocked by Gutierrez but it bounced off Juan Pablo Vargas and looked like it was going to be an own goal but it hit the post. Chivas was completely dominating the match but the score remained scoreless. Against the run of play, Emiliano Gomez got into the area and get past a defender before getting off a left footed shot that Chivas' goalkeeper Raul Rangel blocked but left there for Eduardo Mustre to get off a left footed shot in the net to score and give Puebla the surprising 1-0 lead. It was the first real chance for the home side and it was a bad mistake from Rangel to give up the lead. From outside the area, Ruben Gonzalez got off a right footed shot that went wide. Facundo Almada made a run into the area but his right footed shot went wide. Daniel Aguirre made a good move in the area and got off a left footed shot that went just wide. A cross into the area was headed by Bryan Alonso Gonzalez but it was cleared by Puebla's defense. Alonso Gonzalez got off a left footed shot inside the area that Gutierrez saved. The halftime whistle blew and although Chivas had played better, it was Puebla who had the lead at the break.
The 2nd half started with neither team making a substitution as it started to rain heavily in Puebla. Kevin Velasco got off a left footed shot from outside the area that Rangel saved. Alvarado would get the ball in the area and get off a right footed shot that hit the post. Chivas subbed out Fernando Gonzalez and Jordan Carrillo for Omar Govea and Efrain Alvarez. Alvarado got off a right footed shot from outside the area that Gutierrez made a great save on it. Off the ensuing corner kick, Chivas surprised by taking it quickly and Roberto Alvarado got off a great left footed shot inside the area that went past Gutierrez to score and tie the match at 1-1. A cross from Alvarado almost would turn into a shot that almost went in. Govea got off a right footed shot that would go well wide. Puebla subbed out Carlos Baltazar and Eduardo Mustre for Mathias Tomas and Luifer Hernandez. Chivas subbed out Arman

A high-profile election ***** yst said Texas state Rep. James Talarico (D) may give Democrats a real shot at finally winning a statewide race in Texas given the electoral weakness of his opponent, state Attorney General Ken Paxton (R).
"Since 1994, I've gotten call after call virtually every day from Texans in politics on the Democratic side, saying, 'This is the year. We're finally gonna do it,'" University of Virginia Center for Politics Director Larry Sabato said Thursday in an interview with CNN's Erin Burnett that referenced a Fox News poll showing Talarico with a 51 percent lead over Paxton's 48 percent.
"But you know what? I'm starting to believe it's actually possible this year," he added.
Sabato argued that while Talarico was a "great candidate," the real opportunity for a win hinged on Paxton's political liabilities. "Paxton is so awful," he said.
The political ***** yst pointed to a string of Paxton's legal troubles and scandals, including being impeached by the Texas House, facing 20 charges of misconduct in office, indictments on three felony securities fraud charges and an extramarital affair.

Another domino has fallen for Victory+: On Thursday, the NWSL became the latest to cut ties with the streaming platform. In a statement, the NWSL announced that it had "terminated" its agreement with Victory+ "effective immediately."
The move comes as Victory+ has experienced reported financial difficulties, leading multiple teams to pull out of their deals. The NWSL severed the partnership after less than a year following a missed rights payment, per multiple reports.
Per the statement, games on Victory+ will instead be shown on the league's free direct-to-consumer platform NWSL+ starting this weekend. Sunday's match between the Utah Royals and the Portland Thorns will be the first to reflect this change.
In addition to the NWSL, five individual clubs (Bay FC, Washington Spirit, Orlando Pride, Gotham FC and Angel City FC) have regional deals with Victory+; the Pride and Bay both announced on Thursday that those agreements have been terminated, with Awful Announcing reporting that Gotham will make a similar announcement on Friday.
The NWSL becomes the latest to pull out of Victory+ amid the platform's ongoing financial troubles. On July 15, the Texas Rangers announced that the franchise would be switching from Victory+ to BZZR for all local broadcasts.

The Buffalo Bills came into the 2026 offseason with plenty of needs. That's not necessarily surprising given the fickle nature of the NFL, but for a team that has qualified for the playoffs in each of the last seven seasons, the list of needs seemed to be larger than one would expect. After head coach Sean McDermott was fired, that list of needs grew to include defensive players who could fit a new defensive system, as well.
One of the positions where the team seemed fairly solid on the surface was cornerback; however, a look beyond that top layer of the depth chart showed a troublesome lack of depth. That lack of depth reared its head at the worst possible time for Buffalo last season, and as a result, the Bills and president of football operations/general manager Brandon Beane made sure to bolster the defensive secondary this spring.
In today's installment of "91 players in 91 days," we discuss one of the additions to the depth chart at corner — a rookie with great size and tremendous potential.

Mercedes deputy technical director Simone Resta has delved into George Russell's recent woes, as the team identified a software issue compounded by the Briton's older power unit.
Russell and his squad have been mystified by a lack of top speed relative to team-mate Kimi Antonelli at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps. Mercedes' lead racer attempted to tweak his driving style, to no avail, as his troubles were linked to the power unit's software code resulting in an imbalance in energy distribution.

We are still learning a lot together, ourselves and our colleagues at HPP. We found a bug in our software, and we had to react to it.

One prominent Liverpool reporter has dismissed the prospect of Stefan Bajcetic being considered as a makeshift right-back for the Reds in the upcoming campaign.
The Spanish midfielder made his long-awaited comeback to team training this week, having not played for the club since May 2024 and not made it onto the pitch at all last season due to persistent injury troubles.

Arne Slot frequently played midfielders at right-back in 2025/26 whenever Conor Bradley and/or Jeremie Frimpong were ruled out injured, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo all deployed in that unfamiliar role.
However, in response to a reader's question for the Liverpool Echo as to whether Andoni Iraola might do the same with Bajcetic, Ian Doyle opined that such a scenario would be highly unlikely and that the 21-year-old could plausibly depart on loan again.

Sources suggest that Prince Harry was forced to warn Meghan Markle to put aside her pride. He reportedly believes it's the only way to reconcile with the royal family and regain their trust. Sources also claim that, according to Harry, if they continue to maintain a tough attitude, they might lose the chance to get in the family's good books.
According to a Heat World report, Prince Harry has urged Markle to "swallow her pride" following their reunion with King Charles. It's learned that the private family gathering has been a humbling experience for the Duke of Sussex. However, he doesn't want their tough attitudes to ruin the opportunity for possibly a second invite or a chance at reconciliation.
The insiders said, "Clearly they've been pretty humbled by everything that's happened. As much as they don't want to accept it, their only choice is to abide by the King's terms if they want any hope of rebuilding the relationship."
They further revealed that Harry tried to convince Meghan to take some steps back if they wanted to regain the royal family's trust. He is reportedly making her understand that they need to stop playing "hardball"; otherwise, they might lose the opportunity, which they certainly cannot afford to.
The source elaborated, "They've got to swallow their pride, follow all directions from Charles and his aides, and prove they can be trusted." They also touched upon how the Sussexes really don't have a choice, with their current financial situation in mind. According to an earlier update by Rob Shuter, Harry and Meghan have been facing financial troubles. An insider revealed to the outlet that Meghan has become increasingly frustrated being the only earner in the family. She reportedly wants Harry to step up financially.

High grocery prices are creating downstream financial troubles for more Americans.
More than a quarter of US working-age adults who used credit cards to cover grocery costs last year struggled to repay their bills in full later on, either making only the minimum payment or missing that threshold entirely, new research from the Urban Institute has found.
And nearly 1 in 10 relied on "buy now, pay later" loans last year, with a third failing to make their payment, according to a survey of over 7,500 adults ages 18 to 64 conducted in December. Additionally, almost 1 in 20 turned to cash from a payday loan for food.

Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli is still leading the championship race, but things have gotten tight after two straight races with car troubles and the surge of George Russell.
George Russell has capitalized by cutting down his deficit, gaining a total of 41 points over the last two races.
He is now within 25 points of Antonelli, who will certainly have pressure to deliver a clean weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Reliability and car issues have become a big talking point about the Mercedes engine, given Antonelli’s two pointless races, though Russell has also grown in confidence with the car.
F1 experts Jolyon Palmer and James Hinchcliffe debated if it is the car underneath Antonelli or Russell that is the bigger threat to the Italian’s ****** le contention.

F1 experts Jolyon Palmer and James Hinchcliffe debated if it is the car underneath Antonelli or Russell that is the bigger threat to the Italian’s ****** le contention.

For the Penn State Nittany Lions this season, no one quite knows what will constitute success. In Matt Campbell's first season with the program, chances are it may take him a while to find his footing. Still, considering the failures of James Franklin last season, there may be a very low threshold to be crossed. Many pundits have discussed a potential Year One trajectory for Campbell and his squad, with former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer weighing in.
“The question I have … can he do better than James Franklin?” Meyer said of Campbell's situation, according to On3. “Because James Franklin won a lot of games there now. A lot. He’s got a new quarterback, he’s got a new staff and usually, it takes a minute to get going. He can’t lose his momentum – and he’s got a lot of momentum going into the season".
For Campbell, the most important aspect of this season comes from the fact that he already has a lot of buy-in from the players on the roster. Bringing in several transfers from Iowa State, and holding on to several key pieces from last year's squad were vital to the momentum that will carry over to the start of the season. Most importantly, it's how this squad responds to any adversity they may face that could be the key to how the season transpires.
The bottom line is that it can't get any worse than last year. It was precisely a bad mindset after bad losses and early season troubles that got James Franklin fired. While the same won't happen to Campbell, the early indications must point towards progress for the team. Whether it be creating a positive locker room culture, or by winning early and often, the task is clear for Campbell and Co. Pundits such as Urban Meyer are simply setting the early standard in Happy Valley.

Vladimir Putin's troubles are adding up. His public denials notwithstanding, the war in Ukraine and economy at home are heading in the wrong direction.
His implied social contract with his subjects — you support me in this war and I will shield you from its consequences — is beginning to fray. An ****** ault on a NATO member state, followed by a nuclear ultimatum to end the war on Moscow's terms, debasing the alliance in the process, is looking like an increasingly attractive option.
Four factors are forcing Putin's hand.
After an estimated 1.2. million Russian dead and wounded, at around 35,000 average monthly casualties, the "special military operation" has turned into an endless war of attrition he cannot win and cannot afford to lose. Russia's key advantage over Ukraine — cannon fodder — has become all but irrelevant. Throwing 300,000 more men into the trenches by ordering another "partial mobilization," as even the militaristic Russian "Z" bloggers warn, will only result in the draftees' dying without altering "the nature of the war." A "technological breakthrough" is needed, the bloggers declare, to counter Ukrainian drones.
But despite Putin's promises, none appears on the horizon.

Viavi Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ:VIAV) is one of the top stocks to buy according to Whale Rock Capital Management. On July 1, Susquehanna ***** yst Mehdi Hosseini raised his price target on Viavi Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ:VIAV) to $66 from $60, while maintaining his Positive rating on the stock.
The reason for the call, according to Hosseini, was that Susquehanna was updating its estimates to reflect a higher Field Instrument revenue contribution. Viavi's Field Instrument business is a product line within its Network and Service Enablement segment that supplies handheld and portable testing tools used by technicians to install, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber and network equipment in the field. Hosseini's team lifted its revenue estimates for this business because they now expect a stronger ramp in data center interconnect, or DCI, deployments at two of Viavi's major optical networking customers; that is Nokia and Ciena.
DCI refers to the high-capacity optical links that connect data centers to each other. The ***** ysts noted that demand for this technology has been surging as hyperscale cloud providers race to expand AI computing capacity. They added that Nokia and Ciena are both racing to supply next-generation coherent optical equipment for these DCI links, and that Nokia recently unveiled a new suite of pluggable optical transceivers specifically built for DCI.
As these vendors ramp production and deployment of their new DCI and scale-across optical gear, they generate more business for Viavi, the ***** ysts noted.

It provides testing, monitoring, ***** urance, and security solutions for telecommunications, cloud, enterprise, military, aerospace, and critical infrastructure networks across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Ex-Cowboys standout's financial lawsuit adds new pressure amid battery case originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Former Dallas Cowboys player Marcellus Wiley is facing legal issues on two fronts. A loan lawsuit that was reported earlier has come up again after his recent arrest for battery. This raises new questions about his finances and personal life as he begins divorce proceedings.
The former NFL player is facing both criminal and civil lawsuits. TMZ reported that Preferred Bank sued Wiley and his company, Dat Dude Entertainment, in December 2025 for failing to repay a $500,000 business loan. This loan was originally given in May 2023. The lawsuit also includes claims of unpaid interest despite several extensions to the deadline.
The civil case remains unresolved, according to publicly available records. A few days later, Wiley's legal troubles increased when Orange County authorities arrested him on July 4 for misdemeanor battery. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office report, Wiley's wife, Annemarie Wiley, told deputies she feared violence and asked them to remove him from their hotel room.
The dispute quickly grew beyond the criminal accusation. Court records show that Annemarie Wiley later filed for divorce and sought custody of their three children. She also accused Wiley of borrowing $100,000 from her and charging another $100,000 to her credit cards. These claims are still allegations in the ongoing legal case.

The Indiana Fever lost in blowout fashion, 106-92, to the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday night. Surprisingly, Los Angeles was without its star point guard, Kelsey Plum, who is dealing with an injury, while the Fever got its standout back from injury after she missed a couple of games with back troubles.
Unfortunately, Clark didn't look like her normal self in the game. She struggled from the field, going 4-for-12, including 1-for-6 from the three-point line. However, even on nights when she isn't scoring well, Clark usually manages to get her teammates involved. On Wednesday, however, she recorded only three **** ists.
Many fans on social media felt that Clark's lack of production was less on her and more on her teammates not doing enough to help her out.
"Why the F*CK is CC playing with the bench players and not the starters. This sh*t is a humiliation ritual for Caitlin," one fan posted on X.
"Came out here to see Caitlin live, to see what the fuss is about. Shes been okay but what has shocked me the most is anytime her teammates have the ball or Clark sets them up they are HORRENDOUS. Now I know why Clark looks so upset the whole game her teammates are TRASH," one fan at the game posted, along with a clip of a poor sequence.

The Colorado Rockies have a rare opportunity as they try to win a series on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rockies' offense has been troublesome for the best team in baseball throughout the series, and after a narrow extra-inning loss on Monday and a comeback victory on Tuesday, Colorado looks to do it again tonight.
Gabriel Hughes (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his first career start after debuting against the San Francisco Giants last Friday. Hughes was excellent against the Giants in his debut, firing three scoreless innings to secure a save. He will have a tougher challenge this time out as he faces a dangerous Dodger offense. In nine starts in the minors this year, Hughes has a 4.71 ERA over 36.1 innings of work in that role. He has done excellent work pounding the zone, as evidenced by his 44 strikeouts against 12 walks. He'll need to be mindful of hitting his spots and utilizing all of his pitches to challenge the Dodgers and avoid getting behind hitters, thus leaving mistakes over the plate.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers will send out Roki Sasaki (3-5, 5.40 ERA). It's been a tough second season for Sasaki as he has experienced an up-and-down ride. He had one of his worst outings last Thursday when he gave up six runs on seven hits in a season-low three innings against the San Diego Padres. Sasaki has excellent stuff that can result in strikeouts, but he has struggled with his command and given up a lot of contact. He has been hit by the long ball lately, giving up seven home runs over his last four starts.
And now to the details.

Jul. 8—When Joe Burrow is healthy, it's hard to find anyone better.
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback has been unable to avoid the injury bug through his first six NFL seasons, but remains one of the NFL's top-rated players at his position.
Optimism was at perhaps an all-time high going into last season when he was coming off his best statistical campaign in 2024 and returning all of his weapons on new or extended contracts. That excitement peaked after a healthy preseason but didn't last. A slow start still ensued with a low-scoring win at Cleveland in the opener and then a nine-week pause in his season due to a Week 2 turf toe injury.
Even a surprise in-season trade for Joe Flacco didn't yield the results the Bengals needed, despite him putting up big numbers, and an early return for Burrow wasn't enough to tip the scales with turnover troubles and poor defense. Those issues were addressed this offseason, and now Cincinnati is ready to take advantage of its talent-loaded offense.
The potential for what that looks like in 2026 has fans buzzing with anticipation the Bengals can go as far as Burrow takes them. Let's take a look at his 2025 season, where Burrow is expected to stack up among other quarterbacks in the league this year and what the rest of the quarterback room looks like with data from Pro Football Focus.

good morning and welcome to another edition of What are you reading right now?, where your hoddler-in-chief takes the literary temperature of cartilage free captain.
A lot has changed since I last hosted this feature. The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis has come and gone. I even read another book in-between posts.
That book was Tokyo Express, a ****** anese murder mystery housed in a slender novel that relied on the fastidious train schedules of post-war ****** an. It was a fun read after some heavy lifting earlier this year. It essentially cast doubt on a double suicide along the beach – or was it?
There were genuinely some page-turning moments in there, but now I'm glad that I've got my palate cleansed.
And now I'm back to the heavy lifting with Say Nothing, a nonfiction which follows The Troubles in Northern Ireland. It's been on my bookshelf for years. So long, in fact, that I had it before the Hulu series even existed.

One year ago, when ****** ysts were naming the top NFL quarterbacks ahead of training camp, Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders was often high on those lists. Daniels was ranked inside the top five on many lists, alongside Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow.
That's elite company, for sure. Was it warranted? Absolutely. Daniels was coming off a transformative rookie season, where he led the Commanders to a 12-5 record and a spot in the NFC Championship Game for the first time in 33 years. Daniels did it with fewer offensive weapons than some of the other top quarterbacks — and as a rookie. In the playoffs, Daniels' teammates didn't carry him; he put them on his back. He only needed more help.
So much was expected last season. Unfortunately, he missed 10 games after dealing with three separate injuries. He played only four games from start to finish. His injury troubles were a microcosm for the Commanders' season. The entire team battled injuries. All of that resulted in a disappointing 5-12 record.
While Daniels battled injuries and missed time, his fellow second-year quarterbacks, Drake Maye, Caleb Williams and Bo Nix thrived. It was almost like everyone forgot about Daniels. Then the playoffs came, and none came close to doing what Daniels did in 2024.

It’s been over a decade since Johnny Manziel played football for the Cleveland Browns. But there is still no love lost between Manziel and folks in Cleveland, like radio host Tony Rizzo.
Manziel was famously drafted in the first round by the Browns as their next hopeful franchise savior after winning the Heisman Trophy at Texas A&M. But like many Cleveland quarterbacks before and since, his tenure with the franchise was a disaster. He started just eight games across two seasons before being waived by the Browns after a combination of off-field troubles and on-field struggles. Incredibly, he never took another NFL snap, floating around the CFL for a few years before playing in something called Fan Controlled Football.
But even though it’s been so many years, neither side will soon forget what happened between Johnny Manziel and the city of Cleveland. In an interview with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson on their Nightcap show, Manziel said he hopes the Browns go 0-16 every year because of his hard feelings towards the franchise. That drew an exasperated response from ESPN Cleveland host Tony Rizzo.
Although the interview took place last September, Rizzo responded to a clip that recently went viral. And all he did was ask Manziel why he hates the Browns so much after they gave him his opportunity in the NFL.
“What did anyone do for you except root for you to win, and when it went south, ok, that’s how it goes. Ask Baker. But what, did someone hurt him? Is he a jilted lover? Was there an incident where somebody attacked him? Why the hate? Why the hate for the team that drafted you? Why,” Rizzo asked.

Exemplar Luxury Group, formerly Saks Global, completed its Chapter 11 restructuring on Friday and adopted a new corporate name, the company said. Through the reorganization, the company shed nearly three-quarters of its debt load and secured $500 million in fresh exit financing.
CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck said the new name signals the company's commitment to high-end retail across all three banners. "It's a really big day for the Exemplar Luxury Group. We are starting as a new company," van Raemdonck told WWD. The three store brands — Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman — will keep their existing names and logos, the company said.
Saks Global filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2026, about 13 months after it bought Neiman Marcus Group for $2.7 billion, according to The New York Times. The deal, led by former owner Richard Baker, left the company with a lot of debt. Vendors started holding back inventory because of late payments, which sped up the company's financial troubles.
When the restructuring concluded, ABC News reported that 49 stores remained open across the three banners — a footprint that breaks down to 33 Neiman Marcus locations, 15 Saks Fifth Avenue outlets, and the Bergdorf Goodman flagship on Fifth Avenue, down from a pre-bankruptcy total of roughly 170. Van Raemdonck said that the Off 5th discount chain had been largely shuttered, with just 12 stores kept open strictly to move excess inventory.
Alongside the name change, Exemplar reconstituted its board of directors. Two seats apiece on the seven-member board went to representatives of Pentwater Capital Management and Bracebridge Capital, the investment firms that backed the company during its time in bankruptcy, the company said. Rounding out the board are van Raemdonck himself and two outside directors — Dave Kimbell, who ran Ulta Beauty before stepping down as CEO, and Philippe Schaus, a longtime LVMH executive committee member who most recently led Moët Hennessy as its president and global chief executive.

Oleksandr Usyk recently revealed that he would be vacating all three of his Heavyweight ******* les ahead of his retirement fight, which is expected to go down either later this year or in early 2027. A few days after that, longtime boxing promoter and Dana White rival, Eddie Hearn, suggested that “The Cat’s” last opponent in the boxing ring would be former champion, Deontay Wilder.
And while that is one of the options, Usyk’s advisor, Sergey Lapin, revealed to The Ring Magazine that the pound-four-pound great is also eyeing a potential slugfest against former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.
Seriously.
Jones, who recently retired (we think) from mixed martial arts (MMA) does not have any pro boxing experience on his resume, and while he is one of the greatest MMA fighters to ever step foot inside the Octagon, going into the world of boxing is an entirely different animal, especially as someone as lethal and accomplished like Usyk. Plus, if “Bones” is still under contract with UFC, locking that fight down might prove to be troublesome.
UFC and Conor McGregor shocked the combat world when they were able to secure a big-money mega-fight against Floyd Mayweather for the longtime champion’s retirement fight, but this potential pairing just doesn’t seem like the type that would have the same buzz as “Notorious” vs “Money.”
