Sazerac acquired a Kentucky distillery, the company's latest investment in building out its spirits portfolio.
The Buffalo Trace owner said Friday the Garrard County Distilling facility in Lancaster, Kentucky, will provide additional production capacity to support growing demand for its spirit brands. The whiskey company reportedly bought the plant during a court ordered auction for about $20 million.
Last year, Sazerac disclosed plans to spend $1 billion on new and existing facilities to expand spirits production in and around Kentucky.
Sazerac has had a busy year, aggressively expanding with new acquisitions and innovations in buzzy categories like ready-to-drink ****** tails and soju. The new distillery purchase, however, signifies that though it's expanding into other segments, it's not abandoning its original whiskey focus. The company will use the property to service its entire portfolio with production and aging capabilities.

Anheuser-Busch InBev has invested in the production of its Cutwater spirits RTDs, a brand the brewing giant has said is enjoying rapid sales growth.
The company is spending $13m at its facility in Baldwinsville in New York state, part of which will also go towards the manufacturing of its Michelob Ultra beer brand.
The capital injection is part of the group's plan to invest $300m across its US production this year. AB InBev also invested the same amount in its production sites in 2025.
In a statement, the Stella Artois brewer said the move is going to "add new production capabilities for Cutwater to help meet rapidly growing demand".
The capital injection will also grow production of Michelob Ultra and "upgrade can and bottle lines", the group said.

For those who have covered or watched KC Concepcion over the last three years, his breakout moments for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL preseason have come as no surprise.
From being named the ACC's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 to dominating the SEC and helping lead the Aggies to the College Football Playoff last season, the sky was always the limit for Concepcion. After becoming the first Texas A&M wide receiver selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since Mike Evans was taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014, the former Aggie has flashed on and off the field.
According to NFL writer Zac Jackson, Concepcion was named the MVP of the Browns-Bills joint practice on Thursday for his outstanding performance.
Concepcion's highlights torching defensive backs are outstanding, but his ability as a punt returner and specialist doesn't get enough attention. The former Texas A&M wideout had a massive 31-yard punt return in Cleveland's preseason loss to the Bears, which could've ended with Concepcion in the end zone if he didn't run into the turf monster.
During the offseason, the topic of conversation surrounding the Browns' franchise has been focused on the quarterback situation. Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are all competing for the starting spot, but none of them have impressed. The inconsistency and unknowns have caused doom and gloom for most Cleveland fans, but Concepcion's shine has helped brighten their spirits a bit.

Liverpool put in their strongest performance of pre-season on Sunday in the Anfield headliner against Champions League side Como, and next up for the Reds under new head coach Andoni Iraola is the Premier League season opener against Newcastle next Sunday.
"We are ready and everyone can't wait until the season starts next week," left back Milos Kerkez said after Sunday's 2-0 victory. "We said we need to get the win, to get that positive mentality going into the next week. So, we did good, clean sheet, good for the defenders, we're happy.

In order to get more help from the wingers, the club continue to work to sign an elite forward to replace the departed Mohamed Salah, with Bradley Barcola widely expected as that signing—but the small matter of agreeing a fee that satisfies Paris Saint-Germain proving difficult.
The timeline for a but signing is tight with Newcastle next weekend and the transfer window closing a week after that, but whether or not a new signing is ready for next Sunday's opener this is a side that looks in high spirits and to have embraced Iraola's high intensity approach.

Malik Nabers' workload promises to be the major story of the upcoming week for the New York Giants. The star wide receiver, coming back from a pair of surgeries to repair a torn ACL, could participate in team drills for the first time as early as Monday afternoon.
Nabers wore a red jersey on Thursday for the first time while participating in team periods during what head coach John Harbaugh called a "no-physicality" jog through practice.
Nabers has yet to participate in 1-on-1, 7-on-7, or live 11-on-11 drills.
Last week, Harbaugh hinted that Nabers could do work in team periods this week.

Azzi Fudd was a surprise absentee in Friday's game between the Dallas Wings and Golden State Valkyries. Fudd wasn't on the injury report and seemed poised to start. However, she developed a sore knee during warm-ups and the Wings ruled her out at the last minute.
Here's what the Wings said:
"Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd has been ruled out for tonight's game against the Golden State Valkyries. Fudd went through warmups this evening and experienced right knee soreness. Out of an abundance of caution, she will not play tonight."
The Wings round off a grueling stretch of six games in 12 days on Sunday against the Lynx. Fudd's status for that contest is up in the air and will be disclosed before the matchup.

Giovanni Leoni is eager to get back on the field for Liverpool as he nears the conclusion of an extended rehabilitation. The Italian sustained an ACL injury during his Reds debut last September, entering late in what had been a promising first appearance in a League Cup victory against Southampton.
Nearly 10 months on, the 19-year-old is now working outdoors. He made the trip with the senior squad to the United States to continue his rehabilitation, although he's not yet prepared to rejoin the main group.

Australian Vintage has struck a distribution partnership with Australian ready-to-drink brand Fellr.
The owner of McGuigan and Tempus Two wines said it will manage efforts to sell Fellr across all Australian states and territories, "strengthening its own beverage portfolio while positioning Fellr for broader expansion".
The deal will see Australian Vintage handle Fellr's existing range of 4% abv RTDs and ****** ist its move into vodka-based RTDs and full bottled spirits.
Australian Vintage chief commercial officer Aaron Lohrey said there was "significant potential" to build on Fellr's "success through our sales and distribution capabilities".
"Our customer relationships and innovative mindset provide a strong platform to expand Fellr's presence, while adding greater benefits to our customers asking for a better range of brands that we bring to market," Lohrey added.

When you're at a modern wedding, it's typically just the bride who wears a white dress. However, when Catherine Middleton, Princess of Wales, married William, Prince of Wales, in 2011, her sister Pippa Middleton also (in)famously wore a white gown. The fit of the dress proved to be one of Pippa's most scandalous outfits. Some thought that the look drew focus from Kate's wedding dress, even with all its details, since Pippa's was an ivory-colored gown. But there's been a long tradition, rooted in superstition, of having the bridesmaid and maid of honor dresses match the bride's dress. It crosses cultures, and it's been in place for centuries. It has to do with preventing the bride from being stolen from her wedding.
"A bride would have attendants to protect her from evil spirits," Dr. Angela Thompson, who teaches sociology at Texas Christian University, told The New York Times. "By having several women who are dressed alike, the spirits, or kidnappers, wouldn't know which person was the bride." She also noted that this was a superstition that you can find in places like Rome and China, dating back thousands of years. So since the bride's dress is white, the bridesmaid dresses should also be white.

As for why royal wedding gowns, and therefore royal bridesmaid dresses, have been white in recent years, it goes back in large part to Queen Victoria's wedding to Prince Albert in 1840. Her white wedding dress — one of the many royal wedding dresses that hid a secret message — also helped popularize the trend for all brides to choose white for their wedding. She donned a white satin, silk, and lace gown with a full skirt. Before that, wealthy women had worn white dresses for their weddings, but colors like red were also popular, and less well-to-do women often wore a brown or black dress that was less likely to show stains so it could be reworn frequently.

To honor all of the players who wore those numbers over the decades, Rockets Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who wore them since the founding of the team all those years ago right up to the present day.
With seven of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Rockets of all time to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover.
And for today's article, we will continue with the fourth of four who wore the No. 24, Hall of Fame big man Moses Malone. After ending his high school career, Malone signed with the ABA's (defunct) Utah Stars in 1972.
The Petersburg, Virginia native also played for the (defunct) Spirits of St. Louis and the NBA's (then) Buffalo Braves (now, Boston Celtics - it's a long story) before he was dealt to the Houston Rockets in 1976. His stay with the team lasted until he was dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers in 1982.

The global spirits sector is undergoing a phase of aggressive structural consolidation, as evidenced by Sazerac Company's ambitious bid to merge with Brown-Forman Corporation (NYSE:BF-B). In an updated proposal letter to Class A shareholders dated July 24, Sazerac restated its all-cash bid of $32 per share for all outstanding Class A and Class B common shares. The proposal, which came with a full 13-page white paper, outlined a transformative financial case that would create a global beverage ****** an second only to Diageo in total annual revenue. The combined company is expected to generate more than $12 billion in revenue in 2026, as well as over $3 billion in EBITDA with an EBITDA margin of more than 30%.
Sazerac's operational strategy includes a broad "U.S. Margin Architecture Reset," which involves transferring Brown-Forman's premium portfolio, anchored on Jack Daniel's and Woodford Reserve, to Sazerac's high-efficiency domestic route-to-market (RTM) network. Internationally, the combined company would reverse this approach by integrating Sazerac's developing brand portfolio into Brown-Forman's existing global distribution footprint. According to Forbes, the white paper adopts a targeted "going deep, not broad" international strategy, naming the United Kingdom, India, and Australia as main acceleration markets where Brown-Forman's current route-to-market infrastructure might enable rapid geographic development for Sazerac's spirit portfolio.
Despite the strategic logic of Sazerac's plan, the acquisition attempt has run into an immovable corporate governance wall. Brown-Forman's controlling voting block, Wolf Pen Branch LP, which includes members of the Brown Family, made a decisive joint statement rejecting the revised plan as "not actionable". Since the Brown family owns more than 50% of the Class A voting stock, no change-of-control transaction can take place without their specific approval.
This refusal marks Brown-Forman's second high-profile M&A deadlock in 2026. Earlier this year, Brown-Forman Corporation (NYSE:BF-B) formally began exploratory merger talks with French liquor company Pernod Ricard. These talks were officially discontinued on April 28 when the parties were unable to establish mutually acceptable conditions, setting the stage for Sazerac's initial unsolicited bid on May 1.
The rejection of a $32 per share cash offer demonstrates a significant value gap in Brown-Forman's stock price. The company trades at around $28 per share and has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of about 16.8x, near the low end of its historical range and a notable discount to its 10-year historical average forward multiple of around 30x. Industry-wide destocking, lower global spirits consumption, and continuing input cost inflation have all negatively impacted Brown-Forman's near-term operating performance, reducing the company's market capitalization to around $13 billion. Sazerac's $32 cash bid suggests a price closer to 21x projected earnings

The reaction to SK Hynix's (SKHY) capex guidance on Wednesday only highlights the stunning summer rout in semiconductor stocks.
Shares of the South Korean chip play tanked as the company said it expects its capital expenditures to surge 50% this year to at least $31 billion. The company is attempting to meet the strong demand for its memory chips, which are playing a key role in the AI boom.
Quick insight: The SK Hynix rout will unlikely do anything to reawaken animal spirits in the chips ***** e. All the stocks of the closely watched Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (^SOX) are now trading below their 50-day moving averages, the first such occurrence since April 2025, according to FactSet data.
The SOX has declined 18.9% so far in July, and is on track for its largest monthly loss since 2008.
"Chip stocks are becoming oversold," strategists at The Kobeissi Letter wrote in a note.

US distilling company MGP Ingredients has hired four industry veterans in a bid to "accelerate growth".
Announcing the appointments of Tom Neiheisel, Sol Clahane, Marilyn Chen and David Sanders yesterday (28 July), the company said the move aims to "strengthen its commercial and marketing excellence" in its Distilling Solutions and Branded Spirits divisions, as well as "the company as a whole".
Neiheisel has been appointed vice president of sales in MGP's Distilling Solutions unit, which produces spirits for other businesses.
It is a part of MGP that has felt a pressure on sales in recent quarters.
In MGP's second-quarter results, released today (29 July), the group saw sales in Distilling Solutions tumble 42% year on year to $29.2m.

Bryan Hipsher was named chief financial officer of Dow Jones, the professional news and services division within News Corp. that includes The Wall Street Journal and MarketWatch. Hipsher, who will join the company on Sept. 8, most recently spent seven years as CFO of Dun & Bradstreet. He earlier was a senior vice president of finance at Black Knight. He started his career at Fidelity National Financial and Fidelity Information Services. Hipsher replaces interim CFO Brian Carlesimo, who has been in the role since January. Carlesimo, who has been senior vice president of finance at Dow Jones since 2025, stepped in for Jared DiPalma when he became deputy CFO of News Corp.
Chanel has appointed Helene de Tissot as its ⁠new chief financial officer, starting in October. De Tissot will join the French luxury fashion company in October. For the last 23 years, she has worked at French distiller Pernod Ricard, the owner of spirits brands including Absolut vodka and Jameson whiskey. She has been executive vice president of finance and IT of Pernod Ricard since 2018, according to her LinkedIn profile. De Tissot succeeds Philippe Blondiaux, who is retiring at the end of the year. Blondiaux has been CFO since 2011.
Pernod Ricard promoted Mauve Croizat to EVP of finance and technology, effective Oct. 1, to succeed Helene de Tissot. Croizat has worked at Pernod Ricard for almost 20 years, where she has held senior leadership positions across finance, business development and general management in France, the U.S. and Sweden. She was most recently global senior vice president of transformation, a role she has held since 2023.
Sharon McCollam, president and chief financial officer of Albertsons, will retire later this year. The company is currently looking for her replacement, and McCollam will remain in her role at the food and drug retailer until her successor is named. She will then remain with the company in an advisory capacity until Feb. 27, 2027. McCollam retired from Best Buy in 2016, where she was EVP, chief administrative officer and CFO, before joining Albertsons in 2021. She previously held leadership positions at Williams-Sonoma, including chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

The Cardinals placed left tackle Paris Johnson and linebacker Josh Sweat on the physically unable to perform list on Thursday, but head coach Mike LaFleur didn't make it sound like either player is going to miss much time during training camp.
LaFleur told reporters that both players are dealing with knee issues and that the Cardinals will "be smart" with them at this point in the calendar. The Cardinals will practice the next four days before taking Monday off and neither player will practice before that rest day, but LaFleur suggested they won't be out much longer.
"The Paris thing, that is honestly nothing," LaFleur said, via the team's website. "It's really just maintenance. He'll be back before you know it. Same thing with Josh. Seeing him, he's fired up to be here. He's in great spirits and feeling good."

Athletics rookie infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer is seemingly in good spirits after taking a brutal hit to the private area after a foul ball.
Kuroda-Grauer suffered a ruptured ******* in the Athletics' 5-2 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix on Monday, July 20. He underwent emergency surgery and was placed on the A's 10-day injured list.
The club said the 23-year-old is resting comfortably.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay visited Kuroda-Grauer in the hospital and told MLB.com's Martín Gallegos, who covers the A's, that the rookie is in "great spirits."

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old showed up in his workout clothes in the BVB first team's fitness area and went through an individual rehab session while his teammates worked up a sweat on the treadmill.
Captain Emre Can, who is also in rehabilitation training following the cruciate ligament tear he suffered in the spring, suddenly appeared in good spirits among his Black and Yellow teammates in the weight room.
