Ahead of the release of Zach Cregger's reboot today, there were already seven Resident Evil movies — six of them in a more action-oriented series starring Milla Jovovich, four of which were directed by her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, plus an unrelated "reboot" in 2021 called Welcome to Raccoon City that went for more of a John Carpenter vibe and was an attempt to truly "adapt" the games. There's also a Netflix TV show version that ran for a single season in 2022. Countless other works in the horror genre have unofficially cribbed from the Resident Evil games over the years. It's an incredibly influential series.
And yet, Zach Cregger, hot off his Oscar-winning original horror film Weapons, is the first filmmaker to truly feel like he's adapting the experience of playing the games, arguably the scariest survival-horror ones ever made, rather than simply incorporating story and plot elements to explain the outbreak of infected people. In Cregger's hands, Resident Evil is pure crowd-pleasing popcorn cinema, best experienced in a packed movie theater with dozens of other people reacting loudly to the madness.
The premise couldn't be simpler — and the runtime a brisk 90ish minutes — as we follow a medical courier named Bryan (Austin Abrams, proving himself to be the Bruce Campbell for a new generation) who unwittingly finds himself fighting for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in a swirl of chaos. Fans of the video games will recognize various easter eggs and nods to game mechanics, including the importance of conserving ammo and checking every last drawer for more of it.
But you don't need to be familiar with the games at all to enjoy the movie, which is an efficient horror set-piece machine that just keeps putting Abrams in increasingly concerning situations. I can't stress enough how much this is a one-man show anchored by Abrams, and he crushes it. He's in every scene, earning tons of laughs simply by reacting as a normal person would in this situation; he's a true audience-surrogate character, ushering us through the chaos. His comedic timing, paired with Cregger's ****** ured camerawork and editing, is a match made in genre-movie heaven.

In fact, it's a better Evil Dead movie than the last several movies with "Evil Dead" in the ****** le, nailing the horror-comedy tone that only Sam Raimi and a few others can pull off with aplomb. A week after one of the most incredulous endings in recent college football history, the Wolverines' defense again starred as Michigan upset No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10 in Ann Arbor. With an offense stalled out for much of the second half, Michigan's go-ahead score came courtesy of a short field.

DETROIT — His college career unfrozen by a judge, Orlando Lovejoy is headed to the frozen tundra.
Lovejoy, who starred for Detroit Mercy men's basketball the last two seasons, has committed to fellow Horizon League program Green Bay for his fifth and final season of eligibility.
Lovejoy was among hundreds of college athletes from the high-school class of 2022 who were granted a fifth season of eligibility through temporary restraining orders from judges across the country. The NCAA recently announced a five-year eligibility window, starting with the high-school class of 2023.
Lovejoy, 23, was one of the top point guards in the Horizon League the last two seasons, and in 2025-26, he was first-team all-league as he led the **** ans to within a whisker of the league tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Lovejoy, a Detroit native, started all 31 games for Detroit Mercy in 2025-26, and was top 10 in the league in scoring (15.8 points), **** ists (3.7) and steals (1.6). He made free throws at an 89.2% clip.
Lovejoy spent his first two college seasons at Eastern Michigan, before transferring to Detroit Mercy after the school hired Mark Montgomery as head coach. There was more than one Coco at Chanel's celebration of its new Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu fragrance at Balthazar last night.
Actress and singer Coco Arquette was among the evening's starry attendees, alongside Euphoria's Anna Van Patten and Sterling Point's Ella Rubin. She channeled her mom Courteney ******* 's '90s style in a sleek cream slip dress, lived-in straw-colored waves, and a cool-toned nude lip. "All I know is I just wanted to look pretty," says Arquette of her approach to getting ready for the night. And she had one beauty non-negotiable: "Always lashes galore."
Her makeup artist, Benjamin Puckey, brought that vision to life. "I wanted the makeup to feel polished, yet in that very Chanel way, cool and effortless, and completely true to Coco," he says.
The look began with a glowing complexion. "I kept the skin luminous and dimensional, with a gorgeous warm pink flush on the cheeks," says Puckey, who used Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Blush in Warm Pink for the natural-looking effect.

What's done is done. Western Michigan lost, Michigan won, and that's not going to change.
But one prominent WMU alum has floated another way for all parties to rectify the situation, in the wake of Michigan's stunning — and controversial — win over Western Michigan at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor last Saturday, Sept. 5.
Jason Babin, who starred at Western Michigan before going on to a long career in the NFL, said on social media this week that Michigan, the Big Ten or the TV networks, or some combination of all three, should actually cut Western Michigan a check. He suggested an "eight-figure" check.
His point: The big boys can afford it, Western Michigan sure could use it (especially in this era of NIL), and it's at least a gesture that would help all parties move on.
"I'm thinking to myself, 'OK, no putting the genie back in the bottle, what could we do to rectify the situation?'" Babin said on X (formerly Twitter) earlier this week, as the reaction to Michigan's last-second, 13-12 victory was still white hot, especially on social media. "Can't change the outcome. Can't say Western's got the win, frickin' Michigan's got the loss. that would look worse than Michigan fans storming the field after the game. The only thing I can think logically that could possibly make the situation relatively better would be an eight-figure check, maybe from the Big Ten, from Michigan, maybe a combination, networks, I don't know, somebody — a financial donation, we could call it.

The collection serves as the inaugural campaign by Leon the brand's newly appointed creative director. He is the co-founder of the fashion brand Opening Ceremony and former co-creative director of Kenzo.
