Good morning. Stocks fell on Monday as long-dated bond yields continued to climb amid surging oil prices, raising concerns that the Federal Reserve will need to hike rates at its policy meeting next week.
The 10-year Treasury (^TNX) crept up to 4.8% while Brent crude futures (BZ=F) topped $98 per barrel amid continued Iran-US tensions in the Middle East. Goldman Sachs ******* ysts see a case for oil reaching $120.
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
Tech stocks (XLK) rose as Nvidia (NVDA) and other chip stocks gained slightly. The Energy (XLE) sector rose more than 1%, while Financials (XLF) and Consumer Discretionary (XLY), which are more sensitive to interest rates, slipped.
Here are some other notable stocks that Yahoo Finance readers are viewing this morning: Tesla (TSLA), Sandisk (SNDK), and Alibaba (BABA).

Wall Street delivered a sharp split on September 4. The S&P 500 fell 0.4% after a stronger-than-expected jobs report lifted rate concerns, but Sandisk jumped 11.9% and Micron gained 6.1%. The divergence matters because it was not a broad risk-on move. The pattern was consistent with investors rotating toward memory and storage suppliers that help keep AI systems fed with data. That put Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) and Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) at the center of the session.
Source: Sandisk Corporation
Sandisk offers the purer NAND and flash-storage argument. Its August results established data center as a key growth pillar, and management said it had signed five more new-business-model agreements since April. The bull case is that AI expands high-value enterprise storage demand while tighter supply supports pricing. The bear case is cyclicality: customer agreements cannot eliminate inventory swings, pricing reversals, or the execution risk that comes with a newly independent public company.
Professional ownership broadened before Friday's rally. Insider Monkey counted 128 hedge funds holding Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) at June 30, up from 114 at March 31. Leopold Aschenbrenner's Situational Awareness LP disclosed 2,495,344 shares, about 119% more than the 1,140,119 shares reported in Q1. Those filings are quarter-end snapshots and do not show what the funds did during the September move.
Micron supplies both high-bandwidth memory and conventional DRAM and NAND. Its fiscal third-quarter revenue reached $41.46 billion, while Cloud Memory revenue rose to $13.77 billion and Core Data Center revenue to $11.52 billion. That operating leverage is the bull case. The counterargument is that extraordinary margins invite capacity additions, and today's scarcity economics may normalize faster than investors expect.

Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) stock has more than quintupled year to date, but despite those gains, its rally still doesn't appear to be over. The long-term tailwinds in the memory market just accelerated, and Sandisk is one of the best-positioned companies in the industry.

Investors have greatly underestimated the durability of the current memory chip boom, even the most bullish ones. Samsung (OTC: SSNLF) recently reported that three large customers had signed deals locking up 70% of its memory chip capacity through 2031: Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL).
Those deals are a big catalyst for the entire memory sector, and while Samsung is the immediate beneficiary, Sandisk may emerge as the bigger winner. That's because Sandisk has been growing sales at a faster rate than Samsung, thanks to its NAND flash memory storage chips.
Samsung reported 130% year-over-year revenue growth in the second quarter, while Sandisk delivered 372% year-over-year revenue growth. Sandisk told investors in its 2026 Investor Day that it, too, is securing multiyear deals with its top customers. The Samsung news has further limited the volume of memory chips that will be available for future customers, which will make it easier for Sandisk to command higher prices and sign more attractive multiyear deals.

David Tepper is one of the greatest hedge fund managers of all time. He started Appaloosa Management in 1993 and went on to produce annualized returns of about 25% through mid-2019, at which point he had returned most of his outside investors' money.
Tepper has continued to produce excellent returns, now mostly managing his own money, taking concentrated and often contrarian positions to drive results. Appaloosa generated a massive 32% gross return in the first half of 2026 alone.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
So, it's worth paying attention to the moves Tepper's making -- and you can, because he, like everyone who manages more than $100 million in **** ets, is required to disclose his fund's end-of-quarter holdings via a Form 13F four times a year.
Appaloosa's 13F for the second quarter (filed on schedule about 45 days after that period ended) showed that during the quarter, he sold two of the hottest stocks in the market: Micron (NASDAQ: MU) and Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK). Not only that, but he also bought put options (the right to sell shares at a set price within a preset period) on one of their biggest customers, which may suggest he sees something the market doesn't.

Investors in AI stocks are not without their long list of worries — chief among them is that demand is peaking.
"There was a notable discrepancy between management teams' outlooks for fundamentals and investors' outlooks for share prices," said Deutsche Bank ***** yst Melissa Weathers in a new note on Wednesday.
The note recapped a recent conference DB had, hosting tech execs from the likes of Intel (INTC) and Sandisk (SNDK) and investors in the ***** e.
"Fundamentally, most companies in attendance signaled steady and strong trends, especially the supply chain names gearing up for more advanced processor architectures, higher memory demand, etc. Many management teams signaled confidence not only in industry-wide trends (confidence spanned across sub-sectors like processors, broad-based semis, semicap, etc), but also company-specific efforts to expand margins and drive EPS power.
By contrast, investor sentiment has soured materially from the enthusiasm seen in the first half of the year, with "peak cycle" fears common among many investors. Much of this bearishness stems from ongoing concerns of demand destruction caused by DRAM pricing and technological innovation to break through the "Memory wall", Weathers explained.

SanDisk Corporation (SNDK) is having an exceptional year. The flash-memory maker is the best-performing stock in the S&P 500 Index ($SPX), with shares up 2,809% over the past year. Strong AI-related demand has pushed NAND flash prices higher and lifted SanDisk's results.
In fiscal Q4, revenue reached $8.96 billion, up 372% from a year earlier, while EPS of $38.82 beat Wall Street's $33.28 estimate. Data center revenue more than doubled from the prior quarter to $2.98 billion, and SanDisk expects up to $10.8 billion in revenue this quarter.

Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) has taken investors on a ride in 2026. It's still the best-performing component of the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) this year, but lost a significant amount of value since its highs in late June.
Sandisk is down around 35% since then, but is this a screaming bargain that investors should scoop up in September, or is this stock better left alone?

Let's take a look at some trends and see if Sandisk's sell-off occurred for a good reason or if now is the time to strike.
Sandisk makes NAND memory, which is often used for long-term information storage. There is currently a huge memory chip shortage, mainly because the AI data center buildout has consumed all available capacity. There isn't much that separates one memory chip producer from another, so the entire market is fairly commoditized. Commoditized products follow economic theory very closely, and this dictates that as supply is low and demand is high, prices soar.

Jim Cramer highlighted Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) capital-return plans on the August 24 episode of Mad Money, as he said:
I do not envy the executives trying to appease shareholders with giant returns of capital. Most companies have a preset pattern. The average company in the S&P 500 returns a great deal of the profits to shareholders. Some companies take a pretty extreme approach. Apple returned roughly 94% of its profits, mostly in the form of buybacks, and it dramatically shrunk its share count. That worked fabulously for years as the buyback crunched on and on...
Sandisk has a similar playbook. At its August 13th investor day, the memory maker dazzled with the announcement that it intends to return 100% of its excess cash to shareholders. The company rewarded shareholders with $4.5 billion in buybacks in its fiscal fourth quarter alone. Also added $14 billion to its repurchase authorization. That's one reason why the stock's up 529% year to date. That's the number one performer in the S&P 500… They kind of issued a put, a floor on the stock. Dell, the third-best performer, up 244%, wow, returned 126% of its net income to shareholders, 126%, mostly through buybacks. Net income was $5.9 billion. Buybacks were about $7.5 billion. I know that sounds reckless, but Dell's operating cash flow is more than $11 billion. They can afford it.
Sandisk Corporation's (NASDAQ:SNDK) fiscal 2026 results explain why investors have been willing to ***** ign the company a dramatically higher valuation. Revenue reached $20.25 billion, up 175% from fiscal 2025, while GAAP net income reached $11.43 billion, compared with a $1.64 billion loss a year earlier. Q4 revenue alone reached $8.97 billion, up 51% sequentially and 372% year over year. The most striking change was profitability. The company's fourth-quarter non-GAAP gross margin reached 84.6%, compared with 78.4% in the previous quarter and 26.4% in the year-ago quarter.
It is worth noting that the company said roughly two-thirds of its sequential fourth-quarter revenue increase came from pricing, while about one-third came from higher volume. If NAND prices remain elevated, Sandisk's unusually high gross margins give it substantial operating leverage.

Good morning. Stocks advanced on Thursday after Nvidia's (NVDA) bullish outlook sparked a rally in tech stocks, offsetting weakness elsewhere. Nvidia stock gained over 6% in early trading, while semiconductor stocks like Intel (INTC) and SK Hynix (SKHY) also rose.
Earnings movers Salesforce (CRM), Okta (OKTA), and CrowdStrike (CRWD) also surged by double digits on the backs of strong results and outlooks, spurring on a rally in software names as well. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff called for an end to fears of software disruption, saying, "This nonsense of this SaaSpocalypse, I think it's time for it to stop."
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
Tech (XLK) outperformed the rest of the market as the lone S&P 500 sector in the green. Strength in tech helped counterbalance declines in Utilities (XLU), Energy (XLE), and Communications Services (XLC).
Here are some notable stocks that Yahoo Finance readers are viewing this morning: Nvidia, Sandisk (SNDK), INTC, Marvell (MRVL), CrowdStrike, SK Hynix, Dollar Tree (DLTR)

Good morning. Stocks began trading on a more upbeat note on Tuesday as falling oil prices and Treasury yields lifted sentiment, helping markets shake off concerns about US tensions with Iran and Canada.
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
Tech (XLK) stocks bounced back after posting losses on Monday, showing broad strength across semiconductor, software, and hardware stocks. Nvidia (NVDA) stock rose by about 2%, putting shares on track to end a seven-day losing streak if today's gains hold.
Investors fled Consumer Staples (XLP) names, reversing Monday's trading pattern. As Treasury yields and oil prices pull back and inflation jitters subside for now, it's creating a rotation into growth and technology plays.
Here are some notable stocks that Yahoo Finance readers are viewing this morning: Sandisk (SNDK), Marvell (MRVL), Intel (INTC), SK Hynix (SKHY), AMD (AMD), Bloom Energy (BE), and Lam Research (LRCX).

US stocks closed mixed on Monday as semiconductor stocks fell and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced "Operation Economic Outcast" — a series of expanded sanctions aimed at squeezing Iran.
The S&P 500 (^GSPC) declined by about 0.3%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) dropped roughly 0.8%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose by 0.3% as the lone index in the green after the major indexes posted weekly declines.
Investors rotated out of tech names as semiconductor stocks came under pressure. Sandisk (SNDK), Micron (MU), and other memory chip stocks dropped following a report over the weekend that Nvidia (NVDA) plans to raise prices for some of its AI servers.
Stocks were little changed, however, after Bessent outlined a plan to "sever every economic lifeline" to Iran and isolate the nation. In a press conference on Monday afternoon, Bessent detailed expanded sanctions on Iran and on any country that deals economically with it, stating that countries with ties to the regime will be "removed from the US dollar system."
That raised questions about the US's already tenuous relationship with China, which is the primary buyer of Iranian oil. While Bessent declined to discuss the specifics of individual countries, he emphasized that "no one is above the reach of US sanctions."

Right now, there are two companies dominating the artificial intelligence (AI) memory discussion: Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) and Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK). ***** ysis of which of these memory specialists deserves a place in your portfolio often centers on the same talking points: soaring demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and flash storage.
What receives far less attention, however, is the architecture of each company's long-term positioning. Examining the lesser-discussed strengths and vulnerabilities of Micron and Sandisk suggests that the smarter choice is not to pick a single winner.
Continue »
Micron's competitive advantage stems from the company's history of treating memory as a connected system rather than a commodity. While competitors continue chasing density milestones, Micron spent decades refining its DRAM and NAND portfolios so that the two can be co-optimized. This strategy is paying off as AI workloads increasingly demand both ultra-low latency and massive sequential throughput.
While this cross-pollination is not featured in headlines, smart investors understand that this approach allows Micron to prototype hybrid memory solutions faster than pure-play rivals such as Samsung or SK Hynix. As a result, Micron can respond swiftly to shifts in AI model architecture without waiting for its external partners to catch up.

As founder of the hedge fund company Appaloosa Management, David Tepper has built a reputation for bold, often contrarian bets -- particularly in distressed ***** ets. Investors monitor his moves closely because his track record includes legendary gains even during the toughest economic cycles.
New 13F filings reveal that during the second quarter, Appaloosa sold its entire position in Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) while initiating a new stake in Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO). These moves offer a window into how Tepper is navigating the current chapter of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution.

Sandisk produces NAND flash memory, the high-speed storage technology that powers solid-state drives (SSDs). In the AI infrastructure era, these products have become indispensable because AI data centers require vast amounts of fast, dense storage to hold training data and inference workloads. AI-driven demand has fueled NAND prices sharply in recent quarters, shifting Sandisk's revenue mix toward enterprise data center customers. Revenue and margins are expanding dramatically as sales surge and pricing power returns to the storage specialist.
Filings show that Tepper initiated the Sandisk position during the first quarter of 2026 and subsequently exited completely sometime in the second quarter. While exact entry and exit prices are private, the timing alone implies substantial gains.

When a high-profile investor suddenly exits a stock, people immediately ******* ume something is wrong with the company. In Sandisk's (SNDK) case, the opposite appears to be true. A new regulatory filing shows that Situational Awareness — the AI-focused hedge fund run by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner — built a large position in Sandisk during the second quarter, making it one of the fund's biggest holdings at more than $5.6 billion. Then an AI-based selloff hit in July, and the fund took heavy losses, forcing Situational Awareness to offload much of its public portfolio to Ken Griffin's Citadel.
The forced selling helps explain part of the brutal July slide for Sandisk, as from late June to late July, SNDK stock's price essentially halved. But this says nothing about the company itself. The selling came from a fund unwinding under pressure, not from anything breaking inside Sandisk's business. If anything, the fundamentals have become even stronger. Sandisk recently posted the best quarter in its history, with revenue up 372% from a year ago and record gross margins.

Worries over a Morgan Stanley report yesterday, which compared the percentage of the S&P 500 index that is Sandisk stock versus the percentage Sandisk occupies in the portfolios of large institutional investors -- and concluded Sandisk is "over-owned" -- spooked investors yesterday. As we approach the mid-day mark Wednesday, Sandisk stock continues to drift lower -- down 2.2% as of 11:30 a.m. ET.
Morgan Stanley's number-crunchers did what they do, calculating percentages and concluding that certain tech stocks, including Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, are all "under-owned" (because institutions don't own as much of them as S&P does). Other stocks, and Sandisk in particular, are conversely "over-owned" -- because they're more popular on Wall Street.

It has been a big year for executives and investors at 15 companies in the S&P 500 (^GSPC), and it's all because of one factor.

The list is interesting for several reasons.
First of all, chip king Nvidia (NVDA) isn't on the list, as its stock is "only" up 18% year to date.
