What happened: Dell Technologies (DELL) stock surged as much as 10% before trimming gains on Wednesday.
What's behind the move: The maker of laptops and servers raised guidance and posted record revenue and adjusted earnings for its fiscal 2027 second quarter amid a booming AI server business.
The company said it booked a record $60.9 billion in AI server orders and exited the quarter with a record $95 billion backlog.
Dell Technologies said it also saw growth in its traditional servers, networking, and storage businesses.
The company posted record revenue of $47 billion, up 58% year over year. Earnings per share came in at $6.34, up 273% from a year ago. Adjusted earnings rose 203% to $7.04 per share.

Record revenue and EPS were driven by the compounding benefits of a modernized operating model, enabling earnings to grow faster than revenue through significant operating leverage.
Management attributes the 122% growth in traditional servers to a structural shift where customers view IT as a value driver rather than a cost center, accelerating the refresh of an aged installed base.
AI server momentum is broadening across Neoclouds, sovereigns, and enterprise customers, with the customer count surpassing 6,500 as organizations move from design to production.
Storage returned to growth and share gains, fueled by strong demand for Dell IP products and early tailwinds from AI workloads requiring massive data movement and protection.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise raised its fiscal 2026 revenue growth forecast to a range of 34% to 37%, up from a prior range of 29% to 33%, after reporting record quarterly sales driven by demand for AI servers and networking equipment.
Third-quarter revenue rose 34% from a year earlier to $12.2 billion, the company said. HPE also raised its adjusted earnings per share forecast for the full year to between $3.75 and $3.85, up from a prior range of $3.35 to $3.45.
HPE stock fell more than 5% in extended trading after the results were released. Although revenue beat the consensus ******* yst estimate, it missed the mark for investors who had anticipated even stronger results, according to Bloomberg.
Server revenue climbed 35% to $6.8 billion in the quarter. Networking revenue jumped 75% to $2.9 billion, driven by data center networking that more than doubled and a 270% surge in routing revenue, the company said.
Supply constraints remain a limiting factor. Chief Executive Officer Antonio Neri said on a conference call that HPE is working with partners to secure additional multiyear supply agreements, according to Bloomberg. Chief Financial Officer Marie Myers told Reuters that memory tops the list of constrained components, with NAND, CPUs, and drives also creating shortfalls, and that the company has entered into extended supply agreements to shore up access to critical parts. "Demand is far outstripping supply," Myers said.

The artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure boom is running into a physical limit that money alone can't solve: electricity. Hyperscalers can spend hundreds of billions of dollars on servers, but those servers still need power, and new data-center capacity can take years to connect to the grid. That is changing the economics of AI computing. The scarce resource is increasingly not just chips or capital, but energized megawatts.
That creates an opening for Nvidia (NVDA), whose next-generation Vera Rubin platform is designed to squeeze more computing — and more revenue — from every watt. Let's take a closer look.

The transfer window slammed shut last night, but there are always a few late deals that only get announced the following morning. Unfortunately, a new midfielder is not one of those despite some speculation today about veteran free agent Georginio Wijnaldum.
The three confirmed moves are loans for Academy standouts Landon Emenalo, 18, Shim Mheuka, 18, and Kiano Dyer, 19 — the two 18-year-olds both going to Celtic in Scotland and Dyer joining League Two side Chesterfield FC. Dyer and Mheuka already have at least one senior appearance to their name while Emenalo (son of our former sporting director Michael Emenalo) was with the first-team on our preseason tour this summer and caught the eye of many observers.
It's certainly a bold move for both Emenalo and Mheuka to be joining the Scottish champions, where they will be competing for minutes against seasoned internationals like former ****** nal left back Kieran Tierney or Denmark striker Kasper Høgh. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill spoke highly of the two teenagers upon their arrival, but we'll just have to wait and see how that translates to minutes at the top level.
"Landon is a very good player we have followed for some time, he will give us some real quality. He has many attributes which I think can benefit us, he is very quick and athletic but also very composed on the ball and while he can defend he certainly gets up the pitch into attacking positions too. I know he has a real desire to do well for us and I am sure he will, as he adds strong competition and support on our left side."
"Shim has great quality, hence Chelsea extending his contract, however I think this period of his career, spent with us, will be beneficial to him and obviously to us. I look forward to working with him, he is a player who I think can give us another great attacking dimension and I'm sure he will make an important contribution to Celtic."

Dell Technologies (DELL) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) report within a day of each other this week. Dell goes first on Sept. 1, followed by HPE on Sept. 2. J.P. Morgan expects both to lift guidance again, helped by strong AI server demand and steady demand for ordinary, non-AI gear. ****** ysts estimate revenue of $44.5 billion and adjusted EPS of $4.92 for Dell and revenue of $11.94 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.93 for HPE. Both stocks rose sharply after their last reports, and the market is expecting more good news again. That is why I think the headline beat matters less this time around.
Dell has already set the bar high. During its last quarterly release, it lifted the full-year revenue outlook from $140 billion to $167 billion and nearly doubled its GAAP EPS guidance to a $17.31 midpoint. Its AI backlog sits at $51 billion, with AI revenue guided to $60 billion for the year. Another raise is widely expected, and the stock is priced for it. HPE is coming off with similar momentum. In June, it posted record revenue and margins, raised its full-year outlook, and pulled its fiscal 2028 profit target forward by two full years. A lot of that comes from Juniper. HPE's networking carries far richer margins than servers do. So Dell is the bigger growth story, while HPE is quietly building the better-quality one.

Throughout the buildout of artificial intelligence, the biggest issue that companies keep banging their heads on has been computing capacity. Big tech companies are spending hundreds of billions of dollars this year on servers, chips, and networking equipment, and it appears they'll be spending even more in 2027.
That's why some companies are getting creative—and creating partnerships—in an effort to stand out from the crowd and get AI hardware in the hands of data centers. One recent example is Cisco Systems (CSCO), which is expanding its Secure AI Factory with Nvidia (NVDA) by including a partnership with Super Micro Computer (SMCI).

Andvari ******* ociates, an investment management firm, released its first-quarter 2025 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Andvari's portfolio has performed strongly in the quarter, highlighted by Constellation Software's 19.9% revenue growth and its plans to spend on acquisitions in 2026. The company is also focusing on AI tools to enhance productivity and customer relationships. However, the AI sector is experiencing extreme hype, leading to a growing disconnect between valuations and future cash flows. Predictions suggest the AI investment phase may decline in 1-3 years, despite current high demand for AI infrastructure, which is expected to attract significant competition. Concerns about overbuilding and risky financial behaviors, like Oracle's downgraded credit rating amid a $90-$95 billion AI cloud investment, reflect potential pitfalls. Andvari has minimized exposure to this sector, aiming to protect and grow ******* ets through disciplined investments in stable industries despite recent underperformance during the AI boom. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Andvari ******* ociates highlighted NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA). NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is a leading data center-scale AI infrastructure company operating through Compute & Networking and Graphics segments. On August 28, 2026, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) stock closed at $217.55 per share. The one-month return of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was 5.28%, and its shares gained 24.90% over the past 52 weeks. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) has a market capitalization of $5.25 trillion.
Andvari ******* ociates stated the following regarding NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Another reason why I am increasingly cautious here is I've begun to see more examples of circular financing among the companies involved with the AI investment boom. For example, when NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) invested in OpenAI in late 2025, it was reported most of the money would be used to lease Nvidia chips. Also, some companies like Nvidia and Anthropic have invested directly into special purpose vehicles (SPVs), which in turn use that money to buy hardware from those exact same hardware makers. Then there are AI companies like Anthropic who have begun to use massive SPVs, backed by private equity firms, to borrow billions to buy chips and servers. The AI company then leases the chips from the SPV and thus the debt can stay on its own balance sheet. I've also read that some Nvidia customers are using Nvidia chips as collateral for loans to buy even more chips. This is the same type of behavior that eventually got many telecom and tech companies into huge trouble during the dot com bubble of the 1990s."

It doesn't take an advanced football mind to see that Deshaun Watson hasn't been a good starting quarterback since the Cleveland Browns acquired him.
It isn't the job of observers to fix Watson though. That is Browns head coach Todd Monken's job, especially since he named Watson his starting quarterback for the regular season.
And you'd think that the man in charge of the coaching staff that is now in charge of reviving Watson's career would watch a lot of tape to diagnose what has gone wrong since Watson joined the Browns in 2022. You'd be wrong.
Monken, who has been refreshingly honest with the media since becoming Browns coach, made a pretty startling confession on Tuesday: He has not watched any of Watson's old Browns games since becoming coach. His reasoning is very cheery, but we'll see if it works out.
Monken was asked about Watson's previous tape with the Browns, and he had a curveball for an answer.

The race to build more data centers for artificial intelligence is driving demand for more than chips and electricity.
It also requires vast networks of high-speed optical fiber to move data between servers, putting one of America's oldest manufacturers at the center of the boom.
Corning, the New York-based company best known to many Americans for its kitchenware and smartphone glass, is ramping up optical-fiber production as the data-center buildout accelerates. Nearly 175 years after its founding, the company is supplying a critical piece of the infrastructure behind the AI boom, the glass connections linking the servers inside the facilities powering it.
One Of The World's Hottest Industries Is Sparking A Blue-collar Jobs Boom
The company is partnering with NVIDIA to build three advanced optical-manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas. The project is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs and expand Corning's U.S. optical-manufacturing capacity tenfold.

Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) sit side by side in many artificial intelligence (AI) hardware conversations, yet the market makes it clear they are not the same kind of stock. Broadcom looks like a cash-rich infrastructure utility. AMD looks more like a leveraged bet on a shift in which players will supply the brains of data centers. That difference, more than any single metric, is what their valuations are signaling.

Broadcom's AI business is built around selling high-speed networking equipment and designing custom accelerators for hyperscalers that want their own bespoke silicon. It co-designs application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for customers such as Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms.
Each of these chips is narrowly built for the specific model mix and power envelope of the buyer, in contrast to the general-purpose GPUs sold by AMD, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), and others. Because of this, ASICs can be more efficient and less costly to use than GPUs for the precise types of workloads they are designed for.
Those ASIC programs are large. Broadcom's AI semiconductor revenue sits near $8.4 billion per quarter, with a disclosed AI chip backlog of around $73 billion, and management is now talking about a line of sight to more than $100 billion in AI revenue in 2027. Custom ASIC servers are on track to reach about 27.8% of AI server shipments in 2026, with ASIC sales volumes growing 44.6% year over year, well ahead of the growth pace of merchant GPUs.

The Dallas Cowboys probably didn't have enough room on the roster for third-year pro Marist Liufau. The 2024 third rounder was moved from off-ball linebacker to edge rusher this offseason, but he's behind a long list of guys there, especially after the signing of future Hall of Famer Von Miller. Liufau began working back with the inside backers in the last week or so of practice, but seems behind the eight ball there as well.
His uphill battle may have just gotten worse. In the exhibition finale, the former Notre Dame standout made a tackle late in the first quarter and appeared to injury his left wrist.
Observers immediately made the connection that the Cowboys could now have the ability to place Liufau on injured reserve in order to retain his services without putting him on the 53-man roster. Liuafau is competing with players like Justin Barron and Sam Williams to sneak onto the back end when cuts are finalized by Sunday at 5 pm CT.

Wyoming's Republican Gov. Mark Gordon voiced concerns about the Justice Department election monitors who observed the primary election in his state last week, saying he's asked his attorney general to look into their "aggressive" behavior.
The Justice Department sent two Civil Rights Division attorneys to Laramie County, Wyoming, which includes the state capital of Cheyenne. But some officials, including the state attorney general, weren't made aware of the move in advance, Gordon said at a state canvassing board meeting Wednesday.
"It sounded like the behavior of the observers was a bit aggressive," Gordon said, adding, "It just was irregular and, and I have asked the attorney general to start looking into … the nature of the visits and all that sort of stuff."
The DOJ, when reached for comment, pointed CNN to an August 18 statement from Wyoming US Attorney Darin Smith: "Voters deserve absolute confidence that their ballots are secure and their voices are heard without interference…. We are working alongside local officials to ensure every lawful vote is protected."
CNN has reached out to the governor's office for comment.

Because public electrical grids take years to approve and connect massive industrial loads, Oracle relies on a mix of traditional utility grids, clean energy developers, and fast-deploying, on-site solutions, but Bloom is the largest part of that mix, especially because its fuel cells can generate electricity with minimal emissions.
Under a master services agreement, Oracle contracted for an initial 1.2 GW of solid oxide fuel cell capacity, which scaled up to 2.8 GW. Because Bloom's natural gas-fueled power servers can be installed directly on-site in as little as 55 to 90 days, they allow Oracle to bypass standard grid queue bottlenecks.

Morgan Stanley is forecasting that Cisco (CSCO) could be entering a new period of lasting growth. According to **** yst Meta Marshall, the company appears to be entering a "more durable growth phase," as quoted by Seeking Alpha. The firm also has an "Overweight" rating on the tech giant with a price target of $135. Fueling that call are several key catalysts, including upgrades with networking equipment, demand for artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
One of the biggest catalysts for Morgan Stanley's bullishness is that Cisco's customers are still in the early stages of upgrading their networking equipment. As of now, Marshall says that only about 7% of Cisco's Catalyst 4K and 6K (switches that are used by companies to connect computers, phones, servers, and other devices together) have been updated so far. That means there are still plenty of other companies that will need to upgrade.

Some of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)'s largest customers have been told that prices of servers ‌containing its AI chips will rise by more than 15%, according to a Bloomberg News report from August 22. The increases will go into effect on systems shipped early next year and will include those with the flagship Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell chips, the report said.
While Nvidia hasn't yet confirmed the news, the hikes tied to soaring memory costs will depend on the chip generation and memory configurations. The report added that server manufacturers supplying Microsoft, Oracle, and Google have already begun notifying customers. The news lands just days ahead of the chipmaker's earnings release on August 26.
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)'s core manufacturing costs aren't driving these price hikes. Rather, it's a broader industry-wide memory shortage. Due to the AI infrastructure boom, memory manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have gained outsized pricing power, allowing them to pass down these costs downstream and forcing hardware providers such as Nvidia to hike server prices.
Nvidia has already raised prices on GEForce graphics cards earlier in the month. As per a Bloomberg report, this pressure has now reached the top of the Nvidia stack, with the 15% rise on systems selling for millions of dollars each adding hundreds of thousands of dollars per rack across deployments.
The bullish interpretation for Nvidia's price hikes is pretty straightforward. The chipmaker may have enough ability to pass on its costs to customers while accelerator supply remains tight, demonstrating a sign of pricing power. If Nvidia's margins stay steady even after it enforces the hikes, and hyperscalers continue ordering at planned volumes, the costs are likely being absorbed by customers rather than Nvidia itself.

Anthropic apparently chose a winner in the AI-chip war between NVDA and AMD, and it's both of them.
Reuters reported on August 26, citing a person familiar with the matter after Bloomberg broke the news, that Anthropic will spend $45 billion over six years to rent Nvidia Vera Rubin computing capacity from Nscale's planned West Virginia campus. The 460-megawatt project is expected to start operating in late 2027. Anthropic declined to comment.
That would be a spectacular win for NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), except Anthropic agreed only a month earlier to buy tens of billions of dollars of servers powered by Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD).

The red-hot memory chip rally may be back on thanks to Nvidia (NVDA).
"So the price increases [on memory chips] are astronomical. In some cases, you have secured, we call it capacity, but you actually don't know how many you're getting, and at what price," Nvidia CFO Colette Kress told Yahoo Finance moments after the tech giant's earnings call on Thursday.
The memory chip market has tightened considerably as demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) used in AI servers continues to outpace supply.
Companies such as SK Hynix (SKHY), Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), and Micron (MU) have largely sold out their premium AI memory capacity through much of 2026 as customers, including Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), and Meta (META), race to build AI infrastructure.
The shortage has pushed memory prices sharply higher and given suppliers greater pricing power after several years of weak industry conditions. Experts expect memory supply to remain constrained into 2027, creating a favorable backdrop for the industry's largest producers.

US stocks closed mixed on Monday as semiconductor stocks fell and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced "Operation Economic Outcast" — a series of expanded sanctions aimed at squeezing Iran.
The S&P 500 (^GSPC) declined by about 0.3%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) dropped roughly 0.8%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose by 0.3% as the lone index in the green after the major indexes posted weekly declines.
Investors rotated out of tech names as semiconductor stocks came under pressure. Sandisk (SNDK), Micron (MU), and other memory chip stocks dropped following a report over the weekend that Nvidia (NVDA) plans to raise prices for some of its AI servers.
Stocks were little changed, however, after Bessent outlined a plan to "sever every economic lifeline" to Iran and isolate the nation. In a press conference on Monday afternoon, Bessent detailed expanded sanctions on Iran and on any country that deals economically with it, stating that countries with ties to the regime will be "removed from the US dollar system."
That raised questions about the US's already tenuous relationship with China, which is the primary buyer of Iranian oil. While Bessent declined to discuss the specifics of individual countries, he emphasized that "no one is above the reach of US sanctions."

Super Micro Computer (SMCI) is moving past another major governance overhang after completing an independent investigation into an alleged Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) chip diversion scheme. On Aug. 20, Super Micro announced that the probe, led by independent directors Scott Angel and Tally Liu and conducted with Munger, Tolles & Olson and forensic consultant AlixPartners, found no evidence that current senior management knew about the alleged diversion scheme or any actual diversion of restricted products. The company also said it found no evidence that Super Micro directly sold export-controlled products to known restricted parties or that its previously issued financial statements could not be relied upon.
The investigation followed the March 19 indictment of two Super Micro employees and a contractor in connection with an alleged scheme of Nvidia-powered artificial intelligence (AI) servers that prosecutors say were diverted to China through intermediaries. Super Micro itself was not named as a defendant and said the three individuals no longer have any relationship with the company.

Nvidia's 15% price hike hands Alphabet (GOOGL) a sales pitch for its TPUs and keeps Marvell (MRVL) winning regardless of which architecture dominates.
Murphy says Marvell's custom chip business will exceed $10 billion by fiscal 2029, backed by designs already won at every major U.S. hyperscaler.

Some of Nvidia's (NASDAQ:NVDA) largest customers have been warned that AI servers built around Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin chips could cost more than 15% extra in early 2027 as memory prices climb. Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL) is among the data center operators exposed to those increases, putting it in an unusual position.
Alphabet buys Nvidia hardware to serve customers who want it and sells a competing stack built around its own tensor processing units. Management has committed $195 billion to $205 billion in capital spending this year on AI infrastructure, and a new partnership with Marvell (NASDAQ:MRVL) could generate up to $120 billion in custom-chip sales through fiscal 2033.

JJ Gabriel captivated viewers with an astonishing goal on his official Manchester United U21 debut.
Unlike the senior side that suffered a shocking 0-2 defeat in Hull on the opening day of the season, the young Red Devils started their Premier League 2 campaign on an enchanting note, pummelling Ipswich Town U21 by five unanswered goals at the Progress United Stadium.
The 15-year-old wonderkid has been promoted to the U21 side following a majestic campaign with Man Utd 18.
Gabriel, who has been handed the number 77 in Man Utd's official senior squad, already featured in a friendly test for Michael Carrick's first team, coming in as a substitute against Atletico Madrid.
While any observers are backing him to make his competitive senior debut at some point during the season, the teenager will predominantly feature for Adam Lawrence's U21 side.
