Pete Davidson has spoken about losing his father on September 11 for much of his adult life, sometimes seriously and sometimes through comedy. Becoming a father himself has changed the way he understands what happened.
Davidson was seven when his father, New York City firefighter Scott Matthew Davidson, died while responding to the World Trade Center attacks. "I thought, 'Oh, he was an old guy. He's 33,'" Davidson told the New York Post. "But now I'm there, and I have a kid, and that would be like my kid not having her dad."
Davidson is 32 and turns 33 in November, putting him close to the age his father was when he died. His daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, was born in December 2025 and was named after the grandfather she will never meet.
That combination made the 25th anniversary especially difficult. Davidson said this year felt "way harder" than it had in a long time, but also "extra beautiful" because he would spend September 11 with Scottie. "It'll be very healing and special," he said.
Scott Davidson was 33 when he died and had been an FDNY firefighter since 1994. He worked with Ladder Company 118 in Brooklyn Heights and responded after the second hijacked plane struck the World Trade Center. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation remembers him as a father who coached Pete in football and baseball, watched daughter Casey's dance recitals and frequently called firefighting "the greatest job in America."

The Saturday Night Live alum, 32, spoke about his dad's death to the New York Post in an interview published on Tuesday, September 8. According to the outlet, he's still figuring out how to one day talk about the New York City firefighter's death with his daughter, Scottie, who he and ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt welcomed into the world in December.
"Luckily, I have some time," the comedian told the publication. "Honestly, this year is way harder than it's been in a really long time because I have Scottie, and now I'm the age that my dad was when he died. So I'm just kind of like, 'Holy [expletive].'"

That's up 1% compared to the 2025 season average when using Nielsen's Big Data + Panel methodology (2.6 million), and up 17% when compared to Nielsen's panel-only numbers (2.3 million). Big Data became Nielsen's standard measurement formula on Sept. 1, 2025, after last year's PGA Tour season concluded.
In 2024, the PGA Tour's season-long average for weekend coverage on linear networks was 1.9 million viewers using panel-only measurements, which was standard at the time; that figure is 2.3 million when retroactively applying Big Data.
This season, no PGA Tour player won more than three times (Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Chris Gotterup). Scheffler dominated the PGA Tour the previous two seasons with six wins in 2025 and seven in 2024, including three majors (but none this year). Despite finishing runner-up to Scottie Scheffler at the Tour Championship, Viktor Hovland still managed to turn heads at East Lake. Just not for the reason fans might expect.
Following Sunday's final round, a video of Hovland's bunker shot on the 13th hole went viral. The shot itself wasn't the story. Instead, viewers focused on what happened just before Hovland struck the ball. Immediately, a debate started over and whether he should have been **** sed a two-stroke penalty.
Hovland found himself in a green side bunker on the par-4 13th during Sunday's final round. While he eventually walked away with a bogey, a slow-motion replay raised questions about whether the result should have been much worse.
The replay appeared to show Hovland's wedge getting extremely close to the sand behind his ball before he played his shot. That immediately brought USGA Rule 12.2b into the conversation.
The rule applies specifically to bunkers and prohibits a player from touching the sand with a club before making a stroke. Among other things, players cannot touch the sand with their club in the area in front of or behind the ball. This includes during a practice swing and during the backswing.

ATLANTA (AP) — Scottie Scheffler's final act of the season was to sign his winning scorecard. After a few minutes to exhale, his wife and two sons having come into the room, he placed his cap over the fixed camera the PGA Tour now installs in previously private scoring areas. Content is king.
It wasn't quite the level of Brian Harman smirking and shooting the bird at the camera last month in Minnesota, which made Scheffler chuckle and pump his fist. Both were playful moments, and yet Sunday at East Lake shed a little light on Scheffler's incredible staying power.
Scheffler loves what it takes to be the best player in golf, even the tedious work. He just doesn't care for all the noise and notoriety that accompany greatness.
"I have a tendency to keep my head down and kind of stay in my own lane when I'm out there playing," he said during the trophy presentation at the Tour Championship. "It's really fun when you're able to win and celebrate with the fans in moments like these, and have my family here."
Still, his priority is to crush more than to engage. So he added somewhat apologetically, "I feel bad sometimes. I really do keep my head down and try to focus as much as I can. But I really do hear all the cheers, and I'm very thankful for all of them."

At East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, the veteran golfer conquered the par-3 ninth hole. He launched a tee shot from 208 yards that found the cup for an ace. This was the fourth hole-in-one of his Tour career. The shot happened on Sunday, August 30, 2026, during the final round. It was a massive relief for Rose, who had started the day with two early bogeys. The ace brought him back to even par for the round. According to ESPN Golf, the hole has been the second-most difficult one played at East Lake this week. The feat was so rare that it hadn't been seen on this specific hole since Xander Schauffele did it in 2019.
The statistics surrounding the ninth hole show just how hard it is to score well there. Per ESPN Golf reporting, the hole produced a scoring average of 0.077 above par for the week. ATLANTA (AP) — Scottie Scheffler was signing for another bogey-free round when he was curious enough about the par-3 ninth hole at 270 yards. The numbers surprised him and validated his thinking about how hard it was to separate at East Lake for the Tour Championship.
The 87 players on that hole in three rounds had made two birdies and six bogeys. Do the math — he does have a degree from the McCombs School of Business at Texas — and that's 79 pars.
"That seems very high," Scheffler said. "It's almost like let's just skip it at this point. If we're all going to make par, what's the point in playing the hole, to be fair?"
Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard got a little separation at the end — Hovland with six putts of 7 feet or longer on the last six holes for a 65 and a one-shot lead over Gerard, who was bogey-free in his round of 66 — but the talk all week has been how bunched the scoring has been.
Cameron Young opened with an even-par 70 on Thursday and was in last place. After 54 holes, Kristoffer Reitan and Alex Smalley shared the basement. They were at 3-under 207.

DRESDEN — It wasn't a flashy play, but it all but epitomized what the Granville defense accomplished in another topsy-turvy tussle with Tri-Valley.
With the host Scotties facing a fourth-and-short at the Blue Aces' 21-yard line, trying to overcome a three-point deficit with 1:10 left, the Blue Aces knew what was coming.
Leevi Wade, the Scotties' All-Ohio running back, was going to get yet another carry — he had 36 to that point. The challenge was to gang tackle him one more time. Only this time, the chips were officially on the table.
Indeed, a Wade run into the teeth of the Blue Aces' front came up one yard short with a minute to play. It preserved a thrilling 24-21 win at Jack Anderson Stadium.
Granville could finally take a breath after watching a 24-7 third-quarter lead come painfully close to dissipating, due largely to a pair of costly turnovers that gave Tri-Valley life.

ATLANTA — Ryan Gerard hit it well enough for five relatively easy birdies Friday and dropped a surprise from just inside 80 feet for another, giving him a 5-under 65 and a share of the 36-hole lead with Viktor Hovland at the season-ending Tour Championship.
Hovland had one of five birdies on the peninsula-green 15th hole, a par 3 at only 155 yards but tucked to the left near a sharp slope that feeds off the putting surface. He had a 66 to join Gerard at 10-under 130 going into the weekend.
Right behind? Just about everybody.
That includes Scottie Scheffler, the world's No. 1 player who had a 67 and was two back. And it included Cameron Young, in last place after the first round and atop the leaderboard for much of the day after a 62. He also wound up two behind.
Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup each shot 67 and were one behind at 9-under 131.

Scheffler's tie for 12th at the BMW Championship on Aug. 23 at Bellerive in St. Louis earned $426,250 and ****** ped his total earnings this season to $20,937,524. ST. LOUIS – As Rory McIlroy settled into a chair to be interviewed by Golf Channel's Kira K. Dixon, he summed up his bogey-free 6-under 64 at Bellerive Country Club on Thursday – good enough for a share of the lead with four other players at the BMW Championship — in one word.
"Unexpected," McIlroy, the world No. 2 and reigning Masters champion, said.
"I knew you had it in you," Dixon shot back with a smile.
McIlroy was coming off a dismal performance in the sweltering heat of Memphis at a TPC Southwind course that he's on record as saying isn't his cup of tea. It was a welcome return to form for second-ranked McIlroy, who admitted he felt "lost" in a 66th-place finish at the St. Jude Championship in Memphis last week -- his first start since he finished tied for 40th in the Open Championship.
The six-time major champion was tied for the lead Thursday at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, with a trio of US Open winners -- Gary Woodland, Wyndham Clark and JJ Spaun -- and Chris Gotterup.
World number one Scottie Scheffler, who was at his imperious best on the way to victory in Memphis last week, was meanwhile far from the logjam at the top.
Scheffler hit just six of 14 fairways and 11 of 18 greens in regulation on the way to a two-over par 72 that featured five bogeys and left him tied for 44th -- just one stroke better than the last-placed trio in the field of 50.
