When did we lose the art of enjoyment? These days, the average person loves a think piece—specifically, having their own and putting it out there for the world to see. It stems from this new access we have on the internet to each other. On ****** es like TikTok, Instagram, and X and Threads, we can reach beyond our narrow circles into the phones of literally anyone else. Out of this environment, we've normalized an even more extreme parasocial nature between celebrities, influencers, and each other. The new internet landscape involves users ****** yzing and critiquing anyone who chooses to try or put themselves out there, serving as amateur publicists, stylists, and brand-image architects. There's an element of this new world order that's thrilling—our opinions matter! But...what's that phrase about opinions again?
I'd argue that we've critiqued ourselves into mass hysteria, conflating personal opinion with expertise. Just because someone has something to say doesn't mean they actually know what they're saying. There once was a time when people took the time to learn, gain experience, and work in a specific field so they're equipped to handle certain industries. But now, everyone simply thinks they know enough about everything. And it's making fashion and entertainment commentary less fun for everyone involved.
Over the last few weeks, with Fashion Month, the Emmys, and the VMAs, we were inundated with sartorial opinions on the internet. Top of mind for me was Shailene Woodley's Emmys look.

Capital One (COF) paid $390M for failing to flag money laundering, then faced suit for closing Trump-linked accounts; JPMorgan (JPM) faces a similar lawsuit.
Fewer than 1% of over 8,000 CFPB debanking complaints alleged political bias, yet federal programs like Operation Choke Point cut off entire industries.

American banks are caught between two kinds of punishment. If they miss dirty money, regulators fine them. If they flag it and close the account, they get sued for debanking. Capital One (NYSE:COF) has paid on both sides, and its record shows which way the pressure is moving.

In late September 2026, Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division secured a US$5.10 billion contract to conduct the refueling and complex overhaul of USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), while also advancing carrier programs and expanding unmanned production capacity across its U.S. facilities.
Together with the Navy order for 10 ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels and the Pocasset unmanned systems campus expansion, these developments highlight how HII is tying long-duration carrier work to growing autonomous maritime capabilities within its Mission Technologies division.
We'll now examine how the Truman overhaul award, alongside new ROMULUS unmanned vessel production, could influence Huntington Ingalls Industries' investment narrative.
Rare earth metals are an input to most high-tech devices, military and defence systems and electric vehicles. The global race is on to secure supply of these critical minerals. Beat the pack to uncover the 33 best rare earth metal stocks of the very few that mine this essential strategic resource.
To own Huntington Ingalls Industries, you need to believe that its multi decade carrier, submarine and unmanned systems backlog can be converted into steadier margins and free cash flow despite current back end loaded cash expectations. The Truman refueling and complex overhaul award reinforces that backlog, but does not remove the near term risk that 2026 free cash flow could miss if contract advances or tax benefits arrive later or smaller than management hopes.

Retirement changes how income works on the day the paychecks stop. Selling shares to cover groceries works fine until a bear market forces those sales at bad prices. Dividends let a retiree collect income and keep the same number of shares.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's kids have a squad of nannies helping them around the clock. During a recent interview, the 45-year-old mom revealed that she has help at home. While she reportedly hired five nannies, one is always on duty. For those unversed, the socialite has four kids: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. She has primary custody of her children after her divorce from West.
Kim Kardashian has been raising her four kids with the help of five nannies. Recently, the reality TV star opened up about her personal life and daily routine in an interview with The Times. She talked about her children and how she's raising them. Kardashian admitted that she has a surprising amount of help.
She said that she has "one nanny on duty" and four nannies on rotation. With a whole help squad, Kardashian has been taking care of her four kids. Despite the nanny squad, she makes sure to be present in the children's lives as much as possible. Therefore, she is on school duty as the mom drops off and picks up the kids from school every day. She also has dinner with them daily and reads bedtime stories to them.
"I'm extremely patient and loving. I still have a kid sleep in my bed when they want. I read books with the kids every night," Kardashian said. Meanwhile, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7, have not reportedly shown much interest in the entertainment world. But the socialite addressed how her eldest daughter, North, 13, has already been making her way into the music and fashion industries.
"Each kid does what they're comfortable with. So, my little ones come around when I'm filming, but they don't really do storylines. North loves it a little bit more than the rest," Kardashian added.

RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) reported stronger fiscal third-quarter results on September 14. Revenue increased 21% to $23.96 million for the quarter ended July 31, 2026, while operating income reached approximately $1.8 million, compared with $720,000 a year earlier.
The next question is whether new orders can sustain that performance. Quarterly bookings totaled $22.5 million, below revenue. Backlog stood at $18.6 million at quarter-end and increased to $19.8 million by September 14.
Bookings measure new orders, including modifications or cancellations of earlier orders. Backlog represents orders received for which revenue has yet to be recognized.
RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) improved both sales and profitability. Gross margin increased to 35.6% from 34% a year earlier, helping operating income grow much faster than revenue.
Management attributes the margin expansion to a shift toward customized cabling and integrated systems. These offerings involve more engineering and larger projects than traditional component sales. Competing on technical capability and customer requirements could support stronger relationships and repeat business.

As a Californian, I can say this: If there are two industries that residents of the Golden State really don't like, it's insurance providers and utilities.
Interestingly, with the state considering wildfire reform legislation, those industries are at odds with one another. That's material for investors considering stocks such as PG&E (NYSE: PCG). The company known to California customers as Pacific Gas & Electric is one of the four major investor-owned utilities in the state, and due to the state having some of the highest utility rates in the U.S., PG&E and friends don't have a lot of fans in the state.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Of course, investing isn't a popularity contest. There are plenty of stocks that are often vilified in the court of public opinion that also deliver compelling returns. This year, oil equities certainly check that box. But the biggest risk to prospective PG&E investors isn't how Californians feel about the utility. It's the goings-on in Sacramento.
For those who are new to utility stocks, the primary reasons investors have embraced this sector over the years are above-average dividend yields, below-average risk profiles, and, more recently, inroads to the artificial intelligence (AI) trade.

On Sept. 16, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 417 to 3 to pass the Ratepayer Protection Act. Importantly, the bill still needs to pass the Senate and be signed into law by the President.
Given the bill's bipartisan nature and its strong passage in the House, there is a good chance the Ratepayer Protection Act will eventually become law in some form. That could affect several industries, especially certain nuclear stocks.

We've all read headlines about sky-high multiples and firm owners fielding multiple calls a day from potential suitors. It's an environment where successful founders can generate tremendous value from selling their firms. The process isn't simple, however, and there are pitfalls that owners can stumble into, potentially robbing them of hard-earned enterprise value.
Adam Lewis, partner at Vedder Price, talked through these dynamics this week during a standing-room only session at the Future Proof Festival in Huntington Beach, California. While he advises on M&A across multiple industries, the world of wealth management stands apart in 2026 as the "strongest by far" in terms of dealmaking activity. The entrance of private equity buyers in the RIA **** e has been particularly significant, with the heightened competition among buyers helping ramp up valuations. On August 6, James Hardie Industries (NYSE:JHX) reported results for the quarter ended June 30 and beat its own numbers by enough to raise guidance just three months into the fiscal year. Net sales jumped 64% year over year to $1.475 billion, adjusted EBITDA climbed 79% to $422.1 million, and both figures came in ahead of what management had originally guided investors to expect. For a company that closed a transformative acquisition less than a year earlier, that kind of overshoot forces a reassessment of the growth story ahead.
The headline growth number is inflated by the AZEK Exteriors deal folded into the base, so the more telling figure is the 12% pro forma net sales growth, which also beat original guidance. Siding & Trim, the core fiber cement business, posted organic net sales growth of 20% as North American fiber cement volumes returned to growth for the first time in several quarters. CEO Aaron Erter tied that to share gains against vinyl and other competing materials, along with programs like ColorPlus and Expanded Statement drawing more of the higher-end repair and remodel market. Adjusted EBITDA margin in that segment expanded 140 basis points to 33.5%, powered by favorable pricing, cheaper raw materials, and continued savings from the company's Hardie Manufacturing Operating System even as freight costs rose.
Management also said cost synergies from the AZEK integration are running ahead of schedule and revenue synergies are on track, evidenced by newly expanded nationwide distribution partnerships with Boise Cascade and other regional distributors. In Deck, Rail & Accessories, sell-through accelerated every month of the quarter and outpaced shipments, pulling channel inventory back to normal levels and setting up a cleaner back half of the year. Free cash flow more than doubled to $254.2 million, and the company used the cash to pay down $400 million of senior unsecured notes.
Erter was careful to frame the beat as execution rather than a healthier market, telling investors the company is "not ***** uming a housing market improvement" for the rest of fiscal 2027. Part of the quarter's strength came from an easy comparison, since channel inventory was deliberately reduced a year earlier, and management said that benefit is expected to moderate as the year goes on. Deck, Rail & Accessories net sales actually fell 5% on a pro forma basis because the company intentionally cut production to work down channel inventory, leaving the segment with an operating loss of $3.3 million for the quarter.

On September 4, the U.S. Department of War (DoW) announced a $336,112,000 Navy contract for Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII) to advance procurement of long-lead materials for the construction of the future USS William J. Clinton (CVN 82).
Work on the program will be executed in Newport News, Virginia, with completion anticipated by March 2039. Shipbuilding and conversion funding from FY 2026 will be obligated at the time of award.
The contract is not just a headline number, but reaffirms the company's status as the sole nuclear carrier builder for the U.S. Navy.
The long lead materials contract has secured Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII)'s role on the CVN 82 well before construction begins, which has extended revenue visibility to 2039.
According to defense websites, the Navy plans on spending $22.34 billion on its aircraft carrier replacement program over the next five years. This contract can be seen as among the first in a larger sequence, with more awards to come as procurement accelerates.

On September 15, Guggenheim ****** yst Michael Ciarmoli initiated coverage of almost two dozen defense stocks, with a bullish, sector-wide buy-the-pullback call.
He issued 13 Buy ratings with an average upside of roughly 50%, with the standout being Applied Aerospace & Defense, Inc. (NYSE:AADX). The ****** yst sees the stock around $30, up by about 150% from the share's closing price that day.
Ciarmoli described AADX as a "merchant supplier of established and proven military subsystems and components". The ****** yst believes the company is well positioned to benefit from favorable growth trends across the aerospace, defense, and ****** e industries.
Several defense stocks have struggled since the advent of the Iran war. Investors are also concerned about the possibility of a split Congress after the midterm elections, which could result in a spending gridlock.
However, Ciarmoli says the fears are overblown. The Guggenheim ****** yst is urging investors to be buyers on the pullback. He expects the current trend of increased spending on autonomous systems, ****** e, and replenishing depleted stockpiles to sustain.

In late 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT, and within months the bottom rung of the tech-industry career ladder started to disappear. Graduates who majored in computer science and other AI-exposed fields are increasingly missing out on the jobs they trained for, and a chunk of them are landing behind restaurant counters and retail registers instead, according to two Census Bureau papers.
An April 2026 Census paper tracked matched employer-employee records and found that hiring of workers ages 22 to 24 fell sharply in the industries most exposed to AI, while hiring in less-exposed industries held steady. Employment for early-career workers in the most AI-exposed fifth of industries dropped 12% over the ten quarters after ChatGPT's release. Lee Tucker, one of the coauthors of the paper, said "the decline in hires is the primary cause" of that rate of unemployment, not people losing jobs they already had.
That mattered most for one type of graduate. The most AI-exposed industries, Tucker found, cluster heavily around software and information-technology work, which are the very fields computer science and other highly AI-exposed majors are built to feed into.
A second paper from last week, also coauthored by Tucker, follows the graduates of the most AI-exposed decile of college majors. Their odds of holding a job one quarter after graduation fell by five percentage points, and full-quarter initial earnings dropped 13% following ChatGPT's release. A 13% earnings decline is roughly the size economists would expect from graduating into a severe recession—except there wasn't one, since the rest of the labor market held up fine.
Young grads still need to work and still have jobs, even if they've received highly exposed degrees. So the decline in earnings is less about a lack of employment and more about pursuing lower-wage occupations to make ends meet.

Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE) has a potential valuation benchmark for its retained American Savings Bank investment. IPO terms reported September 9 imply approximately $1 billion of equity value at the midpoint. The proposed offering comprises approximately 7.5 million shares at $15 to $17 each.
Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE) sold 90.1% of the bank in December 2024 and retained 9.9%. Mechanically, a 9.9% holding at a $1 billion valuation would be worth approximately $99 million, ****** uming that ownership percentage remains unchanged.
The base offering would total approximately $120 million at the $16 midpoint before fees. That amount represents shares being sold across the offering, not proceeds automatically attributable to the retained investment.
A public listing could make the minority ****** et easier to value. For Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HE), an observable trading price would give investors a clearer reference for estimating the holding's contribution to overall equity value.
The proposed transaction is entirely secondary, according to the detailed offering report. Existing shareholders are selling shares, so the offering itself does not dilute ownership through newly issued stock. Any change in the retained stake would depend on shareholder sales or other capital changes.

"LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (NYSE:LYB), the plastics producer gave back some of that 88.3% return of last quarter, and fell 34.0%, We are continually amazed by the market's response to the war in Iraq. It seems that this so called "ceasefire" (the one where Iran keeps attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz and the US keeps bombing) has led to expectations that all is well for the affected commodity markets. Management provided results in early May, and reported expectations that the higher prices will be sustained for some time. That makes sense to us. But since then, Polyethylene and Polypropylene prices, for example, have fallen by around 15%. After we sold around two thirds of our holding during the March quarter, we ceased as the price fell to levels below our valuation. It currently accounts for 2.1% of the Fund and we are comfortable with maintaining this position."

For the first half, the Composite returned 2.3%, versus 11.5% for the Index. The letter highlights that a significant portion of the shortfall occurred in April due to market dynamics and geopolitical events, with tech, particularly semiconductors, driving recent gains. In Q2 2026, the portfolio delivered a strong net return of +30.1% compared to the Russell 2000 Index's +21.5% return and the HFRX Equity Hedge Index's +10.3% return. U.S. economic growth remained resilient despite inflation concerns, elevated energy prices, and geopolitical uncertainty. Markets rallied sharply after easing U.S.-Iran tensions pushed oil prices lower, supporting renewed risk appetite. Small-cap equities benefited significantly, with Information Technology, Industrials, and Health Care leading gains, while Energy declined as crude prices fell. Year to date, the Composite returned +23.7%, slightly ahead of the Russell 2000's +22.6% and well above the HFRI Equity Hedge Index's +9.7%. Prosper Stars & Stripes stated the following regarding Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"This year's market rally has pressured short returns and narrowed the windows to successfully monetize shorts, as we would expect. Certain themes and short ideas do continue to resonate, however. One theme that has had success is the ongoing pressure caused by the investment boom in AI crowding out spending in other areas. We have shorted Universal Display Corp (OLED), Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB), and Logitech International (LOGI) on this theme. We believe cost pressures on technology components such as DRAM to result in higher prices for consumer electronics. This would have a significant impact on back-to-school and holiday spending, the key periods for these companies' end markets. We expect the forecasts that these companies are providing at this time of the year to prove optimistic, as tech cost inflation is unusual.
