The roster shuffling has already begun for the Denver Broncos ahead of Sunday's 53-man roster deadline.
One day after the Broncos signed pass rusher Ron Stone Jr. and cut wide receiver Hakeem Butler, the team made four more roster moves on Wednesday.
Denver signed defensive lineman Israel Antwine and offensive tackle Foster Sarell, presumably to add more depth to the bottom of the roster to have enough players for Friday's preseason finale. To make room for Antwine and Sarell, the Broncos cut safety Taylor Rapp and wide receiver Kyre Duplessis.
The Rapp release was a surprise because he just signed last week, and head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph (just yesterday) were both full of praise for the veteran safety. Payton explained after Wednesday's practice that Rapp is dealing with a personal situation. After that is resolved, Rapp will be a candidate to return to the team.

Aug. 29 marks 21 years since Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast in 2005. I had gone to New Orleans expecting a fun weekend with my parents. Instead, I ended up trapped inside a hotel during one of the most devastating hurricanes in U.S. history.
At the time, I had no idea the experience would change the way I prepare for emergencies for the rest of my life. Katrina remains the costliest hurricane in U.S. history and one of the deadliest hurricanes in U.S. history.
For me, though, the story began before the flooding. As Katrina grew stronger in the Gulf, I realized we needed to get out of New Orleans. I got my parents onto what I remember as the last flight out. My dad even offered me his ticket because I still had no way out. I told him to get on the plane. Then I headed to a rental car company. That plan fell apart fast.
There were about a hundred people there trying to do exactly what I was trying to do. So I eventually returned to the Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans after being told it was extremely well-prepared for a hurricane. I was told it had upgraded windows, generator power and plenty of food. I should not have gone back.

It's almost time for football in Eugene. The Oregon Ducks are wrapping up fall camp this week before preparing for the season opener against Boise State at Autzen Stadium on Sept. 5. The expectations are high with one of the most talented rosters in the country.
That sentiment was supported by USA TODAY's ranking of the top 100 college football players heading into the 2026 season. Nine Ducks landed in the rankings, the most of any program. Led by a Heisman-caliber quarterback and armed with plenty of experience in big games, Oregon is one of the frontrunners to win it all this season, but talent can only take a team so far.

Yet his defining legacy comes in more human terms, wrapped in the determined spirit Brigance demonstrated for so many years as he battled ALS – and remained active with the Ravens despite limited physical abilities.
The team announced the death of Brigance, 56, last Monday.
After being diagnosed with ALS in 2007, Brigance, who worked as the player development director following his playing days, kept an office at the team's headquarters and continued connecting with those relationships. He regularly attended practices, too.

Aug. 24—PULLMAN — Washington State's starting quarterback for this season is in place.
The Cougars will start UC Davis transfer Caden Pinnick, the program announced on social media Monday afternoon, ending a quarterback battle with returners Julian Dugger and Owen Eshelman that spanned from spring practice to fall camp, which wrapped up Sunday evening.
A redshirt sophomore, Pinnick earned the reins thanks to a solid fall camp, in which he earned first-team reps across nearly all 15 practices. He had been atop the Cougs' QB rotation since the first week of practice, showing accuracy and impressive athleticism to scramble from the pocket in 11-on-11 settings.
Pinnick won't get much of an easy runway into his tenure with the Cougs. WSU's season opener is set for Sept. 6 at No. 17 Washington, whose defense limited Pinnick to 8 for 16 passing for 50 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a matchup with UC Davis last season.
Also early on WSU's schedule are games against Big 12 opponents Kansas State and Arizona, the first on the road and the second at home.

The biggest positive heading into this final offseason stretch for UL is the impending return of wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr., who missed the entire preseason camp due to a knee injury. Sampson's return, however, doesn't put an end to the injury bug that lingers on the Cajuns roster.
"Injury-wise, we got some good and bad news, Brock Chappell and Broderick Stewart didn't finish the scrimmage," Desormeaux said. "They're going to go see the doctors today and we're hoping that it's not a long-term deal. They feel like Brock's is probably not. Broderick, we're gonna wait and see the image and what it looks like.
"Maxie [Baudoin IV] did miss the scrimmage last week, it's nothing major just some stuff that he's kind of having. Just a little bit of aggravation in his arm so I'll feel good about getting him back."

According to Rosenblatt's Scott Devitt, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s leading position in artificial intelligence remains underappreciated. This bold claim was made in a recent research note on August 19, where Devitt initiated coverage on the stock with a $335 price target.
The firm anticipates AWS to exit 2026 at a 45% growth rate, compared with the Street's 38% expectations. The firm further noted that AWS is seen on a path to $335 billion by 2028.
The AWS acceleration claim is supported by recent numbers. AWS growth has climbed for five consecutive quarters, from 17% in Q2 2025 to 37% in Q2 2026. This strengthens the argument that AI demand is adding another growth cycle. Amazon's Q2 fiscal 2026 results filed July 30, 2026 also showed AWS accelerating to $42.23 billion, its fastest pace in 18 quarters. AWS backlog, meanwhile, stood at $496 billion, growing triple digits year-over-year. The company's AI and Chips businesses also each cleared $25 billion annualized run rates in Q2 with triple-digit growth.
AWS's 37% growth may be the best it has gained in years, but it is still the slowest of the Big Three hyperscalers. Google Cloud grew 82%, Azure grew 43%, while AWS grew 37%. AWS grew at less than half the pace of Alphabet Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google Cloud unit, and also trailed behind Microsoft's Azure.
Google Cloud's 82% growth is not a one-quarter spike, rather, the unit also witnessed growth of 63% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2026. For Azure, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) only posts the growth rate, and revenue for the full fiscal 2026 cross $100 billion, putting it behind AWS and ahead of Google Cloud. Looking at the growth percentages, it seems that AWS is the laggard of the three. However, AWS brings in far more revenue overall. It brought $42.2 billion in revenue last quarter, putting it on a $169 billion annualized run rate. This makes AWS larger in size, and its also adding more actual dollars in revenue than Google Cloud each quarter because of its much larger base.

Looks like Dillon Brooks may very well get 50 Cent to come see the Phoenix Suns play.
Last season, Brooks talked about wanting the hip-hop artist to attend "a couple of games." Brooks said he listens to 50 Cent pregame.
"It gets me going, that's my guy," Brooks said after scoring 25 points in 24 minutes of Phoenix's 132-108 win Dec. 23 over the Los Angeles Lakers at Mortgage Matchup Center.

AllStar JR has to remain incarcerated as he waits for his federal gun trial to begin at the end of August.
On Tuesday (Aug. 18), U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks Jr. denied the Detroit rapper's motion to amend or revoke an earlier detention order. The one-page order, obtained by Complex, means JR, whose real name is Jeremy Christopher Ford, will remain in federal custody ahead of his trial.
The decision comes after federal prosecutors urged the court last month to reject JR's attempt to secure his release. His legal team had challenged an April decision by a magistrate judge in Michigan ordering him detained while his case proceeds.
Prosecutors argued that JR had not presented new information compelling enough to revisit that ruling and maintained that he represented a danger to the public that couldn't be addressed through release conditions.
