EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — Quinten Martinez, pumping gas under a hot South Texas sun, remembers a time when fueling up didn't require difficult decisions.
"Is it going to be groceries this week?" asked the 28-year-old Amazon delivery driver as he watched the numbers tick higher. "Is it gonna be getting gas in our tank to go to work?"
He shook his head when asked about President Donald Trump's **** ertion last week that higher gas prices are a small price to pay for the war with Iran.
"I don't feel like it's a good trade-off," Martinez said. "I don't feel like this is good for anyone."
Voters across the country, and across the political spectrum, tend to agree.

Millions in Cuba were left without power on Friday as the country was plunged into yet another major blackout.
The country's entire electricity grid suffered "total disconnection" that triggered a nationwide outage, Cuba's energy ministry said.
Power was restored to some priority areas by late evening, including those near hospitals and water pumping stations in the capital Havana, grid operator UNE said.
It is at least the sixth partial or total blackout to hit Cuba this year, where ageing electricity infrastructure and chronic fuel shortages have been placed under further strain by a US blockade on oil shipments to the communist-run nation.
UNE said the outage started just before 14:00 local time on Friday (18:00 GMT) due to a transmission fault coupled with poor weather conditions in central Cuba.

The temporary closure of the key onshore pipeline Saudi Arabia uses to bypass the Strait of Hormuz has added another shock to an oil market already struggling with six months of Middle East supply disruptions.
And the damage now appears to be more extensive than initially believed.
Three pumping stations along Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline were damaged in last week's attack, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing satellite imagery and industry sources. Earlier ***** sments had identified damage at two stations. Three sources told Reuters that repairs could take five to six weeks, although partial pumping could resume sooner.
Before the attack, the system was moving between 4 million and 5 million barrels per day (bpd), equivalent to roughly 4%–5% of global oil supply. Its total capacity is around 7 million bpd, including approximately 2 million bpd supplied to refineries.

The September 10 attacks on Saudi Arabia's East-West Pipeline struck the system at multiple locations and damaged at least one pumping station, forcing Riyadh to shut down the Kingdom's critical alternative to the Strait of Hormuz.
The 1,200-kilometer Petroline can carry around 7 million barrels per day from Saudi Arabia's eastern producing regions to Yanbu on the Red Sea. Since the war effectively closed Hormuz, it has become one of the most important pieces of energy infrastructure in the world.
Kpler estimates the pipeline had been moving roughly 4 million bpd around Hormuz before the attack. A prolonged outage could ultimately threaten 3.5–4 million bpd of Saudi crude exports. The figure is below Petroline's nameplate capacity because Saudi Arabia can still export some crude from eastern terminals such as Ras Tanura, despite the severe constraints on Gulf shipping.

CARACAS/MIAMI, Sept 5 (Reuters) - The billionaire who helped broker the Trump administration's sweeping long-term oil deal with Venezuela was until recently a target of U.S. money-laundering investigations involving funds embezzled from the state-owned oil company PDVSA. Now, after **** isting U.S. authorities ahead of the capture of authoritarian leader Nicolas Maduro, Alejandro Betancourt is Washington's key partner in an unusual oil agreement with Caracas.
According to last week's announcement, the U.S. gains access to about one-fifth of Venezuela's crude reserves for decades. The Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital takes a 35% stake in North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP), Betancourt's company and a known crude producer in Venezuela. The State Department gets the right to buy 20% of NABEP's oil at cost, and preferential access to the remaining 80% of output.
The deal marks a striking change of fortune for Betancourt, who four people familiar with U.S. policy in Venezuela said was key to U.S. strategy and planning in the lead-up to the January 3 operation that removed former President Maduro from power and flew him to New York to face charges of drug-trafficking, which Maduro denies.
Asked about the investigations of Betancourt, a U.S. official who declined to be named said most of the legal challenges were nearly a decade old — and that he currently has no legal problems in the United States. NABEP's record of pumping oil in Venezuela made Betancourt the best partner to help boost output under the arrangement, the official said.

Concrete Pumping Holdings (NASDAQ:BBCP) Class A shares rose 17.4% in pre-market trading to $10.62 after the company reported fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings and revenue above **** yst expectations, raised its full-year guidance and announced its first recurring quarterly dividend.
Revenue for the quarter increased 13% year over year to $116.8 million, exceeding the consensus estimate of approximately $109.7 million. Adjusted EBITDA also rose 13% to $30.4 million, with the adjusted EBITDA margin remaining at 26.0%.
Diluted earnings per share were $0.09, compared with an **** yst estimate of $0.08. Net income attributable to common shareholders increased to $4.5 million from $3.3 million in the same period a year earlier.

Prior to Monday night's series opener against the Braves, interim manager Andy Green wasn't ready to commit to one specific player taking over the closers' role with Devin Williams sidelined.
Kodai Senga seemed like the most logical candidate with his recent move to more of a one-inning high-leverage relief role, and just a few hours later, he was indeed the man for the job.
Senga came on in the bottom of the ninth and easily cruised his way through the heart of the Braves' lineup to put the finishing touches on what went down as his first career save.
The right-hander came out pumping 99 mph on the gun, then struck out lefty sluggers Matt Olson and Michael Harris II with a pair of nasty forkballs in the dirt.
He issued a two-out walk to Ozzie Albies, but was able to get Mauricio Dubon to fly one weakly to right just two pitches later, locking up the series-opening victory over the division rivals.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Trump administration has ordered construction crews on a border wall to stop drilling wells in drought-stricken New Mexico after ranchers said pumping groundwater needed to make concrete could threaten their livestock.
The order comes as crews across the southern border race to complete one of President Donald Trump's highest domestic priorities — barriers that span four states and received over $46 billion in federal funding. Controversies have sprouted up in Texas and California, with border-town residents and environmentalists reporting a wide variety of issues with construction.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees border wall construction, has said water is needed to make concrete for roads, wall construction and dust suppression. Cattle ranchers in the area say the drought has already forced them to reduce their herd size.
"It would put us in an immediate catastrophe and having to do something with our livestock. I mean, it could potentially put some people out of business, us included," said Russell Johnson, a cattle rancher whose property runs along the border.
Johnson raised the issue at a public meeting in July after noticing an industrial well, which drilling crews told him would pump 300 gallons a minute, on land he leases for grazing. Johnson has roughly 12 wells across his ranch, which pump between three and seven gallons a minute.

How popular are Costco's gas pumps? The chain had to open its own standalone gas station, apart from the store, just to accommodate customer demand. The retailer is now pumping gas at a station in Southern California, with a second station planned for Honolulu, the Wall Street Journal reports. Both sit a mile or two from the nearest warehouse.
"They're really intended to either alleviate some of the capacity constraints in the gas station that exists at the warehouse today or we just can't get a gas station on the same premises," said Costco CFO Gary Millerchip. The stations will keep Costco's signature discounted pricing, as fuel prices continue to rise.
CEO Ron Vachris told investors the five weeks ending mid-May were the highest gas-sales weeks in company history, pulling in members using Costco's pumps for the first time. Those first-time fuel customers tend to spend more overall, he added.
Costco has had another retail win lately, too. Sales for a retro 1980's Esprit fleece crewneck completely sold out over the weekend. Whether it's filling up the tank or the closet, Costco members are getting their fill this month.

With a strikeout of Denzer Guzman in the ninth inning of Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels, the Boston Red Sox closer became the MLB all-time leader in strikeouts among relievers with 1,364 in his career. He broke a tie with Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm.
He got there with, naturally, a fastball.

The young, the old, ruling party leaders and propagandists alike shout it at official events, street demonstrations and on state television, pumping their fists to show loyalty to the self-described socialist government — and its traditional antipathy toward the United States. Even when confronted with overwhelming truths that defy such bravado, the diverse coalition of military, ideological and opportunistic hangers-on has acted in lockstep.
But cracks in that unity have emerged after the stunning U.S. military operation that captured then- President Nicolás Maduro in January. Longtime loyalists are airing disagreements with the government of acting President Delcy Rodríguez and even discussing publicly rumors that an insider’s betrayal helped the U.S. depose Maduro.
Rodríguez, has done away with some of Chávez’s policies, complied with U.S. demands and shuffled the government to her liking, removing ministers, pushing legislation through the National ******* embly to overhaul the nation's oil industry and releasing political prisoners.

NEW DELHI: When the moment demanded a finisher, Virat Kohli delivered in trademark fashion.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru superstar fittingly struck the winning runs as RCB defeated Gujarat ******* ans by five wickets in the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, successfully defending their ******* le and securing a second IPL crown.
And as Kohli launched the match-winning six into the stands, the celebrations that followed became one of the defining images of the night.
Kohli first hammered Arshad Khan for a boundary in the fifth ball of the 18th over to level the score before finishing the chase in style on the very next delivery. The veteran batter got a full ball in his arc and powered it over long-on for a towering six, sparking scenes of jubilation among players and fans alike.
As soon as the ball disappeared into the stands, Kohli removed his helmet and turned towards the RCB dugout.
