Republicans are starting to fret about their base's lack of enthusiasm ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Those voters were already disproportionately less likely to vote in elections not featuring Donald Trump, and now the GOP has to contend with the president being more unpopular than ever.
And a new CNN poll drives home the problem: Large portions of Trump's base are feeling disillusioned over more than a few of his choices lately.
Across a bevy of questions — on subjects ranging from the economy to the Iran war to Trump's self-enrichment and efforts to makeover Washington — large percentages of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents are registering discontent. As in, often 30%, 40%, 50% or more.

CMA CGM posted impressive Q2 earnings as it navigated volatile supply chain conditions to substantial increases in container volumes and profit.
The closely-held provider of diversified logistics services based in Marseille today said maritime volumes rose 6% to 6.3 million container units from 5.97 million in 2025. Revenue spiked 22% to $9.96 billion from $8.17 billion, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) were up 42.4%, to $2.26 billion from $1.59 billion. EBITDA margin improved from 19.4% to 22.7%
"Against a backdrop of continued geopolitical instability, the Group delivered solid results in the second quarter of 2026, driven by the performance of our shipping activities, the growth of our terminals and air cargo businesses, and the complementary strengths of our logistics operations," said Rodolphe Saade, chairman and chief executive, whose family controls CMA CGM. "This performance reflects our strategy of expanding in key markets and investing in strategic **** ets. They once again demonstrate the strength of our model, our agility and our resilience, all in support of delivering reliable, high-quality service to our customers."

Overall revenue grew 19.2% to $15.69 billion from $13.17 billion as EBITDA improved 31% to $2.99 billion from $2.28 billion and EBITDA margin was up 1.7 points to 19% from 17.3%. Net income was better at $770 million from $520 million.

Amid all the chatter about brand deals and follower counts, the charitable side of creators is often overlooked. This past week, two major creators — MrBeast (510 million YouTube subscribers) and Jacksepticeye (31 million subscribers) — doubled down on giving back.
Though MrBeast and Jacksepticeye are the two creators making headlines right now, philanthropic efforts are baked into the work of many creators, partially because giveaways and community alignment are so core to the creator ecosystem. That focus has translated into an increase in donations from Millennial and Gen Z audiences as donations overall have declined.
MrBeast partnered with Disney and Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) on "I Granted 100 Kids Their Biggest Wish!" a video that chronicled celebrities like MrBeast, Dwayne Johnson and LeBron James granting some of the biggest dreams to children who have been diagnosed with cancer. The goal of the video is to increase awareness for pediatric cancer and raise funds for research, which naturally includes an elaborate MrBeast giveaway for anyone who donates to the charity Give Kids The World. Since being posted on Sunday, the video has accumulated over 30 million views. Those views will only increase as the video remains on MrBeast's channel for the next six months.
"We've never had an opportunity like this to engage people all over the world, and certainly not through a creator platform at this scale. So, it's truly a 'first' for SU2C," Pam Williams, a member of the SU2C founders and advisors committee, told me. So far it's a strategy that's working. The video has been seen by people in 68 countries so far, and almost 90% of donators are supporting the organization for the first time.

Ahead of its' upcoming release, EA Sports Madden NFL 27 has revealed that a former Alabama football standout will be among the highest-rated players in the video game this year.
That player is Detroit Lions running back Jahymr Gibbs, who has received an overall rating of 98 in this year's game. Not only is the 98 rating the highest among any former Alabama offensive player in the NFL, but it is also top among running backs in the game.
Speaking of running backs, former Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry is a 93 overall entering year three with the Baltimore Ravens, while Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers is a 91.
Elsewhere among the offensive ratings, fellow Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith is a 92 at wide receiver, while Alabama rookie first round picks Kadyn Proctor and Ty Simpson are a 77 and 71 overall, respectively. Colorado is five days away from opening its 2026 fall camp as the Buffaloes begin preparations for Deion Sanders' fourth season at the helm. The Buffs had a solid offseason despite many changes, including two new coordinators and 40-plus transfers, most with proven production, albeit at a non-Power Four level.
One of those players is Sacramento State transfer wide receiver Ernest Campbell. The speedy wideout is one of Pro Football Focus' highest-graded returning Big 12 wide receivers. He comes in ranked as the fifth-best returner with an 85.9 overall grade.
Campbell is coming off a breakout season at Sacramento State after being named to the FCS Central Freshman All-American Team. He led the Hornets with 37 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns. The most impressive stat from his 2025 season is his average of 20.41 yards per reception. Campbell's explosivity is by far his best trait, and he should be the big-play threat in Brennan Marion's Go-Go offense, which he knows well. He had touchdowns of 75, 63,60, 57 and 50 yards.
Campbell unsurprisingly has a track background, competing collegiately at Texas A&M as a true freshman in 2024. He recorded a 10.02 100m time at the NCAA West First Round meet and was an honorable mention All-American, placing 22nd at the 2024 NCAA Championships.

Denver Broncos veterans reported for training camp on Tuesday, and outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper was among them. The team kicked off camp with a light acclimation practice on Wednesday, with Cooper participating.
Cooper, 28, is facing five charges related to a felony **** ault case, and he was excused from minicamp last month. Cooper has since completed a therapy, mental health and overall wellness program, and coach Sean Payton said that the pass rusher will participate in training camp.
"We're staying the course with league protocol, club protocol, relative to what we're advised to do," Payton said after Wednesday's acclimation practice. "He's been fantastic working away from the building, and we'll continue to [stay the course] and monitor it. We're supportive, and yet, very much aware of the seriousness of these type of things. ... There's a schedule and a course to this, and that's what we have to follow."
Payton later indicated that the situation could be resolved "sooner than later." That was an interesting comment because Cooper has an arraignment date set for Aug. 31, which is after camp and all of preseason. If the case eventually goes to trial, it could be months away from a resolution.
Cooper could face a suspension from the NFL, but the league likely won't make a decision until after the legal process has completed. The Broncos will allow Cooper to practice while the legal process plays out.

It's that time of the year again when the gaming community and NFL players at large react to the ratings in a video game. Madden NFL 27 will be available for purchase on Aug. 13 (early access available Aug. 6 and Aug. 10) and EA Sports revealed the top 10 quarterbacks in this year's game on July 29.
Only two quarterbacks hit the headline 99 ratings in 2026: Matthew Stafford, the league's reigning Most Valuable Player, and Buffalo Bills signal-caller Josh Allen, who won the MVP award in 2025. Four others, Los Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, Seattle Seahawks wide receiverJaxon Smith-Njigba and Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride, were also rated 99 overall.
In this case, someone has to have the worst rating amongst the most important position in football, and that belongs to Baltimore Ravens backup Joe ******* nano, who has a 59 overall rating among the top-10 quarterbacks and rookie signal callers listed.

The San Francisco 49ers had a few players go down with injuries early on in training camp, and now they've decided to move on from Andrew Farmer II and William Bradley-King to make room for linebacker Quinton Bell and defensive end K.J. Henry.
Farmer played at Lane from 2018-22. After going undrafted in 2023, he's spent one season with the Los Angeles Chargers, one with the Denver Broncos and one with the 49ers. Over his three years in the league, he's appeared in eight games and recorded three tackles. The 26-year-old suffered a back injury on Sunday.
Bradley-King played at Arkansas State from 2016-19, earning All-Sun Belt honors twice, before transferring to Baylor for one final season. He went in the seventh round (No. 240 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft, and spent time with the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins before joining the 49ers last year. Arkansas football enters 2026 looking almost nothing like the team that stumbled through a disastrous 2025 season that saw them go 2-10 overall and 0-for-the-SEC. After Sam Pittman was fired in late September and Bobby Petrino finished out the year as interim coach, the Razorbacks turned to Memphis' Ryan Silverfield to lead yet another full scale rebuild of the program. With a new staff, a roster overhauled through the transfer portal, but one of the toughest schedules in the country waiting, expectations in Northwest Arkansas are cautious but hopeful.
Silverfield arrives after six seasons at Memphis, where he went a solid 50-25 and built a reputation for explosive offenses. Memphis has always been a place at which it was tough to succeed. Despite a ton of local talent, the university's commitment level (or lack thereof) and competition on the recruiting trail from SEC schools frequently combined to keep the Tigers from reaching their potential.
Silverfield won more than ten games twice, but 2025 saw the Tigers drop to 8-4, and Silverfield leave prior to them taking a 31-7 beating from NC State in the Gasparilla Bowl. In short, he was not the most highly sought after coach on the carousel, and probably had a hit of a sell by date in Memphis. But Arkansas isn't exactly a plum ****** ignment in the SEC. New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is still in the running to earn the No. 1 overall spot on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026 list this summer.
According to the NFL's Grant Gordon, Maye is one of 12 contenders with viable shots at earning the top spot in this year's NFL 100 rankings after his superb season in 2025.
"2025 AP NFL Most Valuable Player runner-up was youngest player in NFL history to lead league in completion percentage (72.0, team record); Pro Bowler also led league in passer rating (113.5) and passing yards per attempt (8.9), ultimately guiding Patriots to Super Bowl LX," Gordon wrote.

Chemicals, on the other hand, are only now recovering from some of their lowest margins in years, with the Chemical Manufacturing Industry posting an EBITDA margin of 16.86% in the year leading up to Q2 2026.
Meanwhile, renewable diesel, which has long been a burden on integrated energy earnings, is moving from below break-even to mid-cycle profitability, thanks to a regulatory reset rather than increased demand. This comes as S&P Global reported that the applicable biomass-based diesel volume requirement has been substantially raised from 5.42 billion gallons in 2025 to 9.07 billion gallons in 2026.
Only a handful of companies sit at the center of all three cycles simultaneously. That's why Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) is worth a deeper study. It isn't a pure refiner, a pure chemicals operation, or a pure renewables gamble, but rather a company whose near-term earnings potential depends on three distinct margin recoveries occurring nearly in sync.
The refining rebound is already quantifiable as PSX's realized refining margin increased by 48% to $10.11 per barrel in Q1 2026, from $6.81 the previous year, while crude capacity utilization increased to 95% from 80%. This lifted the refining business from a $937 million adjusted loss in Q1 2025 to a $208 million adjusted profit, bringing overall adjusted EPS to $0.49, above the Wall Street forecast of a $0.40 per share loss.

The Kentucky football team is entering a new era in 2026 under coach Will Stein. We're going through the offensive positions, and ranking all 16 teams in the SEC at each position.
As we continue our position group previews of each SEC team and where Kentucky lands amongst their foes, we turn our attention to the offensive line. At all levels of football, but especially the SEC, you have to be strong in the trenches to compete against the top of this conference. Will Stein knows this, which is why he invested a lot of resources to overhaul this offensive line. Kentucky spent big up front to give 27-year-old offensive line coach Cutter Leftwich the talent to revive the big blue wall.
Ryan Silverfield has a ton to overcome in his first season as the Razorbacks head coach, and the offensive line could be the detriment of this offense. He brought Malachi Breland over from Memphis to be his starting left guard, and Bryant Williams the Louisiana transfer to be the starting right tackle. This is an inexperienced group across the board that will have a large task at hand, facing a brutal schedule with multiple game wreckers on the defensive line.
Jeff Lebby brought in a couple of SEC transfers to start at each guard spot, including Arkansas transfer LJ Prudhomme and LSU transfer DJ Chester. Jakheem Shumpert-Perkins and Blake Steen are expected to man the tackle spots. The Bulldogs offense have the firepower to be an explosive offense, but the offensive line will determine their overall ceiling as an offense in 2026.
Auburn's entire starting offensive line this season will be from the transfer portal, a theme of Alex Golesh is bringing guys with him from South Florida to help create continuity. It's time for the annual post to highlight how the Mountain West Conference compares to the American Athletic Conference in a variety of important categories. Since this yearly post began, the American has had the advantage overall, although the MW narrowed the gap in 2024. Which one was the top Group of 5 conference in 2024? Read below to find out.
The Mountain West and American don't have many opportunities to play each other from season to season, and it's sad that that hasn't changed over the years. In 2024, the conferences played one another four times, with two of those being the CIC Trophy games, Air Force battling Army and Navy. The other two were Boise State opening against South Florida and Colorado State taking on Texas-San Antonio. Last season, all of those games ended in losses for the Mountain West teams, which is extremely disappointing. They have now lost head-to-head matchups to the American two seasons in a row.
The American's top tier enjoyed a successful season and has been seen as a top-heavy conference for years, with this year being no different. Memphis led the way with a 12-2 record (good for a winning percentage of .857). Behind them was Navy at 11-2 (.846), and Tulane at 11-3 (.786). The three-team average ends up being a .829 score for the American. On the other side of things, UNLV was the top Mountain West team with a 10-4 record (.714 winning percentage). Then, New Mexico, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Hawaii all finished with identical 9-4 records (.692). Taking the three-team average, and it comes out to a .699 winning percentage, which is a drop from 2025. Unfortunately for the Mountain West, even a good season and a top-heavy bunch of teams, the conference couldn't measure up to the American, which takes this one once again.
Playing games against Power 4 teams is usually a great measuring stick for any mid-major conference. The Mountain West continues to have a poor showing in this category, but improved in 2025, going 4-12 in 2025. That is an increase of one win from 2024, though they played four fewer games this past season. The wins over Stanford, Cal, and UCLA (twice) represent a 25% winning percentage for the conference.
The American ended up improving as well, going from 1-14 to 6-13, which amounts to a 32% winning percentage. The additional five games against P4 teams should be noted as well. Beating Northwestern, Army, and Oklahoma State last year may not mean much, but wins over Florida, Duke, and Arkansas look impressive to varying degrees. It's nice to see both conferences improve, but the American takes this category back in 2025.

In a farm system full of intriguing young arms, Bagwell continues to fly under the radar despite putting up excellent numbers to begin his career.
Last season, Bagwell made a total of 10 starts with Augusta after dealing with an injury that sidelined him for a majority of the first half of the year. In those starts, he tossed 50 innings of 2.88 ERA ball while holding opponents to a .198 average. While the baseline numbers were solid, Bagwell's strikeout numbers left something to be desired as he only managed 30 strikeouts in those 50 frames.
In 2026, however, Bagwell has seen his strikeout rate jump while also keeping his impressive walk rate in check as well.

A record-high 73% of US adults say that President Donald Trump hasn't paid enough attention to the country's most important problems, a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS finds, with just 27% saying he's had the right priorities.
That comes amid increasingly bleak views of the Iran war, stagnating economic unhappiness, and broad discontent about Trump's approach to these challenges.
Roughly two-thirds of Americans think that Trump's policies have worsened economic conditions and that his military decisions in Iran have hurt the US. Around three-quarters say the president is not in touch with the problems ordinary Americans face in their daily lives.
Trump's overall approval rating, 34%, matches the career low he last saw at the close of his first term, following the January 6, 2021, insurrection. Half of Americans now strongly disapprove of him, a high across his terms, with a record-low 15% strongly approving.
Within his own party, his approval rating has hit a new low at 78% among Republicans, and just 19% of Republicans say they're enthusiastic about the rest of his second term, down from 38% last spring.

Quarterback play is always paramount in modern college football, as opposed to past decades when the running game mattered most in the sport. This is true in the Big Ten. Fernando Mendoza, the starting quarterback for the **** le-winning Indiana Hoosiers last season, was picked No. 1 in this past NFL draft. This upcoming season, the best quarterbacks in college football reside in the Big Ten. Whoever comes out on top in the Big Ten will have a quarterback who proved to be the best in college football.
Here is my ranking of the top five quarterbacks in the Big Ten:
Dante Moore shone last season, and just like last year, he was in conversations for being the best quarterback in college football. Moore threw for 2733 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He is dangerous in the pocket and an underrated athlete. Last year, he made the most of having great weapons and a great run game, helping lead Oregon's prolific offense to a college football playoff berth. This season, he enters with more continuity and a deeper set of weapons at each of the skill positions. I expect Moore to have a big season and end the year off being the undisputed #1 overall pick just like Fernando Mendoza.
Sayin's season last year was incredible, and he was extremely efficient. He had all the resources to be in that position with weapons, Jeremiah Smith, and Carnell Tate, but he still maximized his opportunity as a freshman starter. He ended the year with 3323 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. The connection he has with Jeremiah Smith is already a proven one, and he showed he can run the offense even better than Will Howard did the year prior. However, as expected from most freshmen, under the bright lights, he did fall short in the College Football Playoff vs the Miami Hurricanes and in the Big Ten championship vs the Indiana Hoosiers. Although his season was special, he still has more room to grow. If he takes that next step, the Ohio State Buckeyes will have another national **** le trophy in their case.
Jayden Maiava still does not get the credit he deserves for how good he truly was last season. In his first season as a starting quarterback, he led the Trojans' offense to being a top unit in the country. Lincoln Riley's offense was dangerous and high scoring because of how good and confident Maiava was last season. Maiava threw for 3431 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Maiava is a gun slinger, and he takes a lot of shots, but playing more under control would do wonders for his perception and draft stock. If he can have a similar season, with fewer interceptions and showcase his running ability more, there is reason to believe he can be one of the first quarterbacks taken in this next draft. The success of the Trojans this year falls on Maiava's back, but I am confident he will take a step forward and not back in year 2.
