In a submission to Britain's Competition and Markets Authority, the iPhone maker said proposed "steering" requirements would go beyond promoting competition and give the regulator a "highly intrusive" role in managing its business.
The CMA's consultation, which closed on Monday, is part of its efforts to boost competition and consumer choice. Its proposed measures would allow app developers to direct users to payment options outside Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store and require any fees charged for such steering to be fair and reasonable.
Apple said the App Store facilitated more than £46.5 billion ($61.8 billion) in UK billings and sales in 2025, with commissions accounting for less than 3.5% of the total. It added that there was no evidence changes to its payment model would lower prices for consumers.

The Green Bay Packers will open the 2026 training camp under sunny skies at 9 a.m. July 29 with the iconic bike rides from Lambeau Field to Ray Nitschke Field.
It is a tradition for Packers players and some coaches to ride kids' bikes from the stadium to the practice field. Kids can line up with their bikes near the Oneida Nation gate on the east side of the stadium and should arrive early. The Packers and American Family Insurance also will provide five Dream Bikes, basically bicycles with sidecars. Kids chosen for the Dream Bike experience will receive a bike helmet autographed by the player who rides with them.
The National Weather Service Green Bay forecast is for sunshine with a high of 84. Umbrellas are not allowed in the stands, so fans are advised to have hats, sunscreen and water.
Training camp practices are free and parking is available in the Lambeau Field parking lot. It's a three-minute walk from the parking lot to the practice field.

The Wisconsin Badgers recently received an expert prediction to land class of 2028 offensive lineman Brock Barrows.
Barrows stands 6-foor-2, 277 pounds, and is an unranked recruit, according to 247Sports.
Back on July 21, Badger247's Nick Osen logged an expert prediction that the Missouri native will commit to Wisconsin.
"I think it really solidified them as my top school even more than they already were. I just loved being able to get coached by Coach Mateos, Coach Rabach, and just everybody," Barrows told Osen (subscription required).

Donald Trump offered his take on LeBron James' blockbuster move to the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday after a reporter asked the president to weigh in on the perennial debate over whether James or Michael Jordan is the NBA's greatest player.
"Well, Michael Jordan is a guy who is a friend of mine, play golf with him. He's a really good guy," Trump said during a Friday press conference in the Oval Office, before pivoting to a bizarre aside about James.
"And I think LeBron is, maybe he's a racist, but maybe he doesn't like Trump, I don't know. But I only like people that like me," the president added. "So, I would say Michael Jordan all the way."

Blackstone (BX) CEO Stephen Schwarzman said Thursday that his firm has been selective in its investments in the AI infrastructure boom as the company delivered a jump in profits for the second quarter.
The private markets giant reported Q2 distributable earnings of $2 billion, or $1.52 per share, up 26% from a year earlier, compared with ****** yst expectations of $1.7 billion.
In a post-earnings conference call, Schwarzman, the firm's 79-year-old billionaire CEO, pointed to Blackstone's earlier investments in data centers, energy, power, and AI companies as the most significant driver of the results.
But he cautioned that there is also plenty of uncertainty in the rapidly expanding AI boom.
"In terms of risks, we're mindful of the potential for excessive exuberance in this area, and we've carefully chosen our spots, leveraging our scale and knowledge advantage to build conviction," he said.

It had been coming, but the news was confirmed today that Idrissa Gana Gueye has left Everton with the expiration of his current contract.
There was a clause in his deal for an optional year, but talks between the club and player looked to have broken down and with a lucrative offer coming in from Al-Diriyah in the Saudi league for the midfielder, Gana has chosen to leave the club.
The 36-year-old had been a mainstay for the club in the middle of the park over two stints, having first signed for the Blues in the summer of 2016 from Aston Villa. He left for three years to play at his boyhood favourite club Paris St. Germain before returning in 2022.
Gueye's tough-tackling, no-nonsense style won him a legion of followers across the fanbase as he soared to the top of league in most defensive metrics, and was instrumental in keeping the club up during recent relegation battles.
He made a total of 236 appearances for the Toffees, winning the Club's Player of the Season award in 2024/25 and twice being named Players' Player of the Season.

Every Florida baseball player and signee taken in the 2026 MLB Draft has officially signed.
The Gators had six players chosen in this year's draft, along with one of their high school signees. UF has now produced 21 first-round picks in program history and has had at least four picks in 17 of the last 18 years.
The program has also produced at least five draft picks in each of the past four years.
Here's a breakdown of every UF player that has signed a deal this offseason.
The Gators' top pick in the draft was the final player to agree to a deal on Friday, July 24. Peterson was taken No. 19 overall by the Cleveland Guardians. The right-hander received the full slot value of his pick of $4,530,500.

In his first actual tweet since November 2022 (he's had a handful of retweets since then without comment), Bosa reposted the original article from The Athletic about Clark's ouster with an “OK” emoji.
It's an odd postscript to the (relatively speaking) old news. And while those in the media accept that the public nature of the job will include a public reaction to the job ending, Bosa's tweet is another example of the notion that someone's firing is something to be celebrated on social media.
Of course, it happens to players. And while it's usually fans and not media members who pop a cork publicly when the player is cut from his team, it's easy to blur the lines. Especially if the media member in question has a reputation for the kind of candor that will ruffle feathers.

In an operation aimed at identifying potential ticket touts, the club has restricted the accounts of "thousands" of fans.

Thirty-one of the 32 first-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft have signed their contracts. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the first overall selection, signed his deal with the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday.
That leaves Alabama QB Ty Simpson, the 13th overall pick by the LA Rams, as the lone player chosen in the first round unsigned. Apparently, "secondary contract language" is the holdup. One would have thought Simpson would be anxious to to sign, given how questioned the Rams' choice of him was.
That said, everyone else is in the fold. A look at the value of the contracts for each of those picks. The deals are all for four years.

"Boxing is a brutal sport, but it's a disciplined sport," Owner, Hector Perez Jr said.
The Rosenberg nonprofit has provided young people with an affordable place to learn the sport while emphasizing discipline, respect, and perseverance.
The Fort Bend Boxing Club was founded in 1964 by Hector's uncle Blas Perez. Blas was a fighter himself, playing the sport from the age of 12, before turning to coaching and building amateur champions.
"My uncle was a brawler. He fought to the end - he never gave up," Hector shared. "That's how life is with him right now. He's had quite a bit of strokes already, he's still fighting."

La Gazzetta dello Sport that Gian Piero Gasperini is desperate for an attacking signing and Nusa is now the chosen target. An emergency meeting has been held at the club during which initial contact has been made for the Norway international.
They have spoken directly with Leipzig and haven’t used too many intermediaries. The German side made it clear that they want €60 million and would go down to only €55 million. That’s their take it or leave it response.
Roma believe Nusa’s salary is well within their reach. Newcastle United and ****** nal are interested but luckily for Roma, they haven’t made any moves yet. As a result, sporting director TOny D’Amico is expected to speak to the Friedkin ownership about making a formal offer as soon possible.
