The school year is in full swing in Georgia, and while students may already be counting down the days until next summer break, teachers know there is a long way to go.
There are more than 120,000 educators across the Peach State who have chosen to make education their priority.
But is Georgia a good place to work as a teacher?
According to a new report from WalletHub, Georgia ranks as one of the top states for teachers anywhere in the United States.
"Education remains one of the lowest-paying occupations requiring a bachelor's degree, and teacher salaries have not kept pace with inflation. Adjusted for inflation, on average, teachers are making 5% less than they did 10 years ago," according to the report. "Compensation and working conditions vary widely across the country, with some states offering far stronger support for educators than others."

Buc-ee's has won another legal battle to protect its famous beaver mascot.
A federal judge has ordered South Carolina clothing retailer Born United to pay more than $850,000 after the company admitted to infringing on Buc-ee's trademark, according to the Greenville News, part of the USA TODAY Network. The judgment permanently prohibits Born United from using Buc-ee's beaver logo or any mark considered "confusingly similar."
The order also requires Born United to destroy merchandise bearing the disputed logo, remove advertisements featuring it and could require the company to pay Buc-ee's attorney fees if it violates the terms of the judgment.
The ruling is the latest victory for the Texas-based travel center chain, which has aggressively defended its trademarks as it expands across the United States. Buc-ee's has filed a number of lawsuits in recent years against businesses it says copied elements of its branding, including its recognizable smiling beaver mascot.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said Friday on "Morning Joe" that New York banned formal civil immigration enforcement agreements between local law enforcement and ICE because she wants officers focused on local crime.
A DHS spokesperson said in an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital that the restriction will force more federal agents into communities as 15 county sheriffs challenge the law in federal court.
"When politicians bar local law enforcement from working with DHS, our law enforcement officers have to have a more visible presence so that we can find and apprehend the criminals let out of jails and back into communities," the DHS spokesperson said.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland said he is "very concerned" that President Donald Trump will wield the power of the federal government to thwart the midterm elections this fall as the Republican tries to maintain his grip on power during the final two years of his administration.
In an interview as he becomes chair of the National Governors ***** ociation, the potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender ticked through Trump's efforts to restrict voting by mail, obtain voter information from states and possibly deploy federal troops or agents to polling places. Moore said there was a role for the NGA, a bipartisan group, to ensure states are able to oversee elections as designed by the U.S. Constitution.
"I don't think that the president is trying to hide the ball on this," Moore said. "It's not even am I concerned about what the president could do? I'm concerned about what he's already doing in broad daylight."

BEIJING, July 31 (Reuters) - Chinese military researchers have used outputs from leading U.S. artificial intelligence models developed by OpenAI and Anthropic to train domestic AI systems to advance China's defence capabilities, according to a Reuters review of more than 80 Chinese academic papers and patents.
The previously unreported findings offer a rare glimpse into how military and security-linked institutions in China ‌are leveraging cutting-edge U.S. AI models as a shortcut to developing specialised systems of their own, despite Washington's efforts to restrict Beijing's access to advanced chips and other strategic technologies.
The documents show ‌widespread use of a technique known as "model distillation," in which outputs from a powerful AI system are used to train smaller, specialised models that can be deployed locally without the enormous computing requirements needed to build frontier AI systems from scratch.
Reuters' review, which included research compiled by the Washington-based Jamestown Foundation and shared exclusively with the news agency, showed distillation is widely used by researchers linked to the People's Liberation Army and other military institutions.
