Two years ago, it seemed like ******* ody wanted to touch Intel (NASDAQ: INTC). The company that basically invented the modern chip industry had turned into its own cautionary tale, posting an $18.8 billion net loss for 2024 while it fell behind Nvidia in artificial intelligence (AI) and behind Taiwan's foundries in manufacturing.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Then something strange happened. The U.S. government bought a stake in Intel. So did Nvidia. So did SoftBank. Companies and governments don't usually hand over billions to a business they think is finished, and that's the real reason I think the next 14 months matter more for this stock than almost any stretch in Intel's recent history.
Turnarounds aren't real until a real, working product ships, and Intel is finally shipping. In July, the company said its newest Arizona fab had entered high-volume manufacturing on a subset of its Core Ultra Series 3 chips, known as Panther Lake, the first processor built on Intel 18A, which Intel calls the most advanced semiconductor process ever developed and manufactured in the United States. Its second-quarter 2026 release adds that the next node behind it, 18A-P, had already entered risk production, meaning Intel isn't just trying to catch up on one generation, it's trying to stay on pace for the one after. On the data center side, that same release says Intel also launched Xeon 6+, its first server chip built on 18A.
Money talks, and in 2025 three very different yet massive buyers said the same thing with their wallets. The U.S. government invested $8.9 billion in Intel common stock, structured largely out of unpaid CHIPS Act and Secure Enclave funding, in exchange for roughly 275 million shares and warrants for up to 241 million more. Nvidia added $5 billion, and SoftBank put in another $2 billion, both also in Intel common stock. None of this money really guarantees Panther Lake sells well, or that Intel's foundry business ever turns a real profit. But I think it's an odd thing to do if you think a company is circling the drain, and you don't have any faith in it.

The nest egg needed to support a comfortable retirement varies widely by state.
Couples receiving dividend income may need a smaller nest egg, but those payments can fluctuate and aren't guaranteed.
Monthly dividends totaling $500 to $2,000 can shrink the required invested nest egg by $150,000 to $600,000.
Building a stream of dividend income is a common retirement strategy, giving couples regular cash flow that can help cover expenses without requiring them to sell as much of their portfolio.
An Investopedia ****** ysis found that a typical American couple age 65 or older needs about $1.16 million saved for a comfortable retirement after accounting for roughly $37,700 a year in Social Security. Across the 50 states and Washington, D.C., that figure ranges from about $800,000 to nearly $1.33 million.

Feeling wealthy in retirement is often just that — a feeling. Having an active social life, a solid purpose and enough cash in the bank to never worry about monthly bills might be all you need to describe yourself as a "rich" retiree.
Feelings aside, what do the cold, hard numbers show? Most Americans agree you need at least $2.2 million (1) to be considered wealthy in America. But they might be surprised to see that you actually need considerably more than that to land in the top 10% of U.S. retirees.
Jeff Bezos backs a platform that lets anyone invest in rental homes for as little as $100 — 6 ways to build wealth like a landlord without actually being one
A single line on your car insurance policy could be inflating your premium by up to 30% — here's what to change

Welltower (WELL) pays out only 52% of normalized FFO, while Ventas (VTR) raised its dividend 8% and improved leverage to a decade-low 4.4x.
Baby boomers turning 80 now number nearly 70 million, yet builders started only 1,000 new senior housing units last quarter.
Sabra's 6% yield comes with a dividend flat since 2020 and a $102 million non-cash loan loss provision recorded in Q2.
Just released. Our ***** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and Welltower didn't make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat WELL. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
Senior housing has one of the clearest demand stories in real estate. On its third-quarter call, Ventas (NYSE:VTR) noted that the baby boomer generation, a cohort of nearly 70 million individuals, began turning 80 this year. Builders started only 1,000 units of new senior housing in the quarter. More 80-year-olds and very few new buildings push occupancy and rents higher, but operator health, labor costs, and government reimbursement decide how much of that reaches shareholders. The four REITs below are all equity REITs that own buildings. None is a mortgage REIT. Dividend safety is measured on FFO, FAD, or AFFO coverage, the cash-flow figures REITs actually pay dividends from.

A Michigan retiree couple needs roughly $927,000 invested at a 4% withdrawal rate, versus $1.07 million in Florida.
Florida homeowners pay $8,471 yearly for insurance versus $2,415 in Michigan, a $6,000 gap that requires $151,000 in extra savings.
Michigan exempts Social Security and offers married couples a $128,080 retirement deduction, potentially zeroing state tax on a $37,000 IRA withdrawal.

Retiring to a lake town in Michigan or Wisconsin often raises questions about snow and winter conditions compared with a move to Florida. Winter is one factor in that comparison, but the rest of the picture gets mentioned less often: insurance, taxes, housing, and summers. This piece runs the numbers for a couple at full retirement age.

Bloomberg calculated Dodge's roughly 15,897 Berkshire (BRK-A, BRK-B) shares would have topped $2.7 billion by 2013 if the family held them.
Homer Dodge drove 1,500 miles to hand a 25-year-old Buffett $120,000 in 1956, and the stake grew to $2.1 million by 1970.
The Avenir Foundation received 2,000 Berkshire shares from Dodge's estate and grew from $1 million to $1.2 billion in endowment by late 2024.

About 42% of top-10% income families have seven-figure retirement accounts, compared with just 1% of middle-income families.
Married, college-educated homeowners make up about 20% of families but nearly 75% of retirement-account millionaires.
Nearly a third of retirement-account millionaires are families headed by someone ages 55 to 64.
Only about 7% of U.S. families have $1 million or more in retirement accounts. But that milestone is much more common among families that share several key traits.
Among the roughly 9.4 million families with $1 million or more in retirement accounts, about 97% own their homes, 84% are headed by someone with a bachelor's degree, and 61% are in the top 10% by income. That's according to an Investopedia ***** ysis of the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, released earlier this month. All figures are in 2025 dollars.

Charlie Munger spent half a century lecturing investors on the psychology of their own mistakes. A month before he died, he admitted to one of the most common mistakes. Asked on the Acquired podcast how his investment in Hyundai had worked out, Munger said: "I lost money. Not much because I was stubborn. I held out until it got back to almost where I paid for it and then I sold it."
That sentence describes, almost word for word, the behavior behavioral economists call the disposition effect: the tendency to sell winners too early and hold losers too long, waiting for a stock to return to what you paid before letting it go. Hersh Shefrin and Meir Statman named it in 1985, and Terrance Odean documented it across thousands of retail brokerage accounts in a 1998 Journal of Finance paper. It is the mistake Munger's famous 1995 talk on the psychology of human misjudgment was written to help people avoid. Here he was, at 99, saying he had made it with his own money.

Savannah Chrisley and her new beau, Jason Galanis, are already married, despite only announcing their engagement publicly earlier this week.
According to marriage records obtained by People, the 29-year-old reality star and the 56-year-old businessman tied the knot on Tuesday, July 14, at Cayman Islands Baptist Church. The marriage followed a year of dating and came just two days before Galanis' 56th birthday.
Earlier this week, Savannah announced she was pregnant and engaged, though she did not reveal she and Galanis were already married. On her Unlocked podcast, she shared how Galanis proposed with a massive oval-cut diamond ring while they vacationed in the Cayman Islands.
The Chrisley Knows Best alum did not reveal Galanis' name in her pregnancy announcement, referring to him as "J" in social media posts and as "Jason" on her podcast. However, Us Weekly later confirmed the mystery man as convicted fraudster Jason Galanis.
In 2020, Galanis was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for his part in "two multimillion-dollar fraud schemes," according to the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. In one of the schemes, Galanis was accused of defrauding investors, including the Oglala Sioux Native American tribe, out of tens of millions of dollars.

Michael Olise has developed into one of the world's best players since joining Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace in a €53 million deal in the summer of 2024.
However, the French international could have taken a very different path, with Bild revealing that Borussia Dortmund were also interested in signing him at the time.
According to the German tabloid's "Dortmund Insider" podcast, the Black and Yellows had Olise on their wishlist in 2024 and made specific enquiries about signing him.
But just as Dortmund were exploring the possible terms of a deal, Bayern entered the race. BVB were ultimately left empty-handed, unable to match the €53 million transfer fee.

Tensions are reportedly rising behind the scenes at Old Trafford as the Glazer family grow increasingly frustrated with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's leadership. Despite the INEOS founder taking control of football operations earlier this year, the club has slumped to its worst start to a league campaign in nearly four decades.
Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in United in 2024, a deal worth £1.2 billion that handed his INEOS group total control over football operations. The agreement included an additional £245 million injection to upgrade Old Trafford's fading infrastructure, taking his overall financial commitment to approximately £1.5bn. However, two years on, the anticipated revival has failed to materialise.
Instead of progressing, the Red Devils find themselves embroiled in a deepening crisis. They are currently enduring an eight-game winless run across all competitions, managing just a single Premier League victory so far this term. Hovering a perilous two points above the foot of the table, this represents United's poorest start to a campaign in almost 40 years.
Watching from afar, the Glazer family are reportedly astonished by the rapid decline under the new sporting regime. A source close to the American owners told the Daily Mail that the current situation is "a travesty and not what they expected or were promised." The insider added that the Glazers feel "they have never run the club this way."
The frustration runs deep, with the current hierarchy allegedly viewing the INEOS approach as a complete failure. According to ESPN, the Glazers believe Ratcliffe "couldn't have masterminded a worse situation" at Old Trafford.

The iconic skyline of Milan is set for a historic transformation as the city's two footballing heavyweights prepare to move into a state-of-the-art new home. In a move that signals a massive shift in the financial landscape of Serie A, AC Milan and Inter have officially secured a record-breaking naming rights partnership with Italian insurance giant Generali for their future shared arena.
Milan and Inter have agreed a staggering 20-year naming rights contract with Generali, which ESPN reports is worth €650 million (£545m/$725m). The new 71,500-capacity venue will be officially known as the Generali Stadium, effectively replacing the historic San Siro. The clubs purchased the required land from the city last November for €197m, paving the way for the eventual demolition of their legendary current home.
Construction is targeted to begin in 2028, with the first matches scheduled for the 2031-32 campaign, pending necessary approvals. Spearheaded by respective ownership groups RedBird Capital Partners and Oaktree, the stadium project also anchors a wider urban regeneration plan featuring new retail, leisure, and green ******* es.
The massive financial commitment eclipses the $700m agreement struck by Crypto.com in 2021 for the Los Angeles arena shared by the Lakers and Kings. It stands as a monumental boost for the two Serie A giants as they look to modernise and bridge the matchday revenue gap with Europe's elite.

Braves predicted to sign $85M ex-Cubs Gold Glove finalist with power bat after career-best season originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Atlanta Braves won the NL East last season and nearly reached 100 wins, which was a great accomplishment. However, the beginning of the season was plagued by injuries and a suspension.
The Braves signed Jurickson Profar two offseasons ago, but the move has been nothing but detrimental. In fact, he has missed 243 games due to suspensions, including a year-long suspension in 2026.
"Atlanta Braves designated hitter Jurickson Profar is facing a 162-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug for the second time in the last year, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. Profar, 33, is the sixth player to receive a 162-game ban for PED use since Major League Baseball increased the penalty for two-time offenders to a full season in 2014. He will forfeit the entirety of his $15 million salary," ESPN's Jeff Passan wrote.
Heading into the offseason, one of the biggest questions for Atlanta will be how it addresses left field.

Everton manager David Moyes omitted Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish from his matchday squad for a disciplinary infraction before watching his side claim a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United on Thursday night. Despite the England winger's absence at the Hill ***** inson Stadium, the Merseysiders comfortably advanced into the last eight of the Carabao Cup.
According to talkSPORT, the 31-year-old playmaker was axed from the fourth-round tie following an unauthorised absence from a recent Everton training session. Grealish had previously missed last weekend's 2-0 Premier League defeat against ***** nal, though club officials attributed that initial omission to illness. On the pitch, goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry rendered Dan Burn's late consolation for the visitors meaningless.
Prior to last weekend's clash with the Gunners, the attacker had been included in every matchday squad since returning to Merseyside late in the summer window, making three league starts and two substitute appearances after playing 77 minutes in last month's third-round cup win over Wolves.
Confirming his absence alongside defender Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of kick-off on Thursday, Everton wrote in a post on X: "Jarrad Branthwaite remains sidelined for a second successive game due to concussion protocols, while Jack Grealish is unavailable for selection due to a breach of Club discipline."
Having joined City from Aston Villa for £100 million in 2021, the England international initially moved to Everton on loan last term and registered two goals and six ***** ists across 20 outings before suffering a season-ending foot injury in January.

Anthony Rendon enters free agency as nightmare Angels contract finally ends appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Angels decided to move on from manager Kurt Suzuki last week after just one season in charge. Now, the Angels can finally move on from Anthony Rendon after seven disastrous years with the team.
Rendon officially entered free agency on Thursday as his seven-year, $245 million contract is finally off the Angels' books.
The Angels signed Rendon to the massive deal after he helped the Washington Nationals win the 2019 World Series. That was the biggest deal the Angels had ever given to a player in free agency. In his seven seasons in Washington, Rendon was an MVP candidate-caliber player who averaged over 20 home runs and 85 RBIs over a six-year span.

The Los Angeles Angels decided to move on from manager Kurt Suzuki last week after just one season in charge. Now, the Angels can finally move on from Anthony Rendon after seven disastrous years with the team.

The Kansas City Royals made their first big offseason move on Thursday by cutting ties with closer Carlos Estévez. The team declined his $13 million club option, which means he hits the open market. Instead of paying that high price, Kansas City will hand him a $2 million buyout. This decision clears the books but leaves a huge hole in the bullpen after he led the league with 42 saves in 2025.
At the same time, the club exercised a $2.5 million option on right-hander Tony Gonsolin. Per MLB.com Royals, this move keeps a former All-Star under contract for 2027 despite his recent injury struggles. It is a low-cost gamble for a pitcher who once went 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 2022. After ending last season with a 5.07 bullpen ERA that ranked 29th in the majors, the Royals must acquire all available pitching help.
Letting Estévez walk feels risky, but the math makes sense for a small-market team. He signed a two-year, $22.2 million deal before 2025 and delivered a 2.45 ERA that year. However, his 2026 season was a disaster filled with injuries and blown saves. He was limited to just one appearance before a comebacker hit his foot and a rotator cuff strain ended his year. According to Yardbarker, his strikeout rate dropped while his walk rate climbed in 2025, showing he was already losing a step.
Paying $13 million for a pitcher who might not even throw a pitch in 2027 is hard to justify. The Royals are better off taking the $2 million buyout and trying to find a cheaper replacement. They need to fix a relief corps that allowed too many runs and lost too many games. The 69-93 record from last year proves the bullpen was a major problem that this move attempts to address.
Bringing back Gonsolin is a different kind of bet, one based on potential rather than recent results. He joined the team on August 13 while recovering from elbow surgery he had in August 2025. In just one major league outing this year against the White Sox, the 32-year-old surrendered five runs across 2 2/3 innings. Per Royals Keep, the $2.5 million price tag is very affordable for a starter with his career stats of 37 wins and 13 losses.

NBA rumors: 2 Clippers named as Thunder trade targets in addition to Herb Jones, Ty Jerome appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
After the Oklahoma City Thunder's first loss of the season in a 120-96 blowout to the Dallas Mavericks, will GM Sam Presti make a move for either New Orleans Pelicans' Herb Jones or Memphis Grizzlies' Ty Jerome sooner rather than later? The injuries continue to stack up for the Thunder, as Alex Caruso and Chet Holmgren were both out in addition to Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace's setbacks ahead of Wednesday's game against the Mavericks.
For a team like the LA Clippers, who lost first-round picks for the next five seasons, Derrick Jones Jr. and Kris Dunn have also been mentioned as potential trade targets for Presti, who has more future firsts than any other GM in the NBA. While the Thunder are in no rush to make a trade, Presti will most likely do so at some point before this year's deadline, as ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel noted, per Clutch Scoops.
"The Thunder are going to make at least one trade. That's a given," Siegel said. "We know that Sam Presti is always very adventagous on the trade market. We didn't think that they were going to make a trade last season. And then, Jared McCain fell in their lap because they leveraged some draft picks — first-round and second-round picks — that we're going to be of use to them. We could see something similar happen this year, where it's not going to be a big splashy name; a $20-plus million guy.

There once was a time when the mere thought of competing with the World Series made the NFL hide under the bed. Nowadays, regular-season football is the monster lurking under the World Series' futon.
When ESPN announced the numbers for the Week 7 Cowboys-Eagles game (18.8 million), Fox had yet to disclose the viewership for Game 3 of the World Series between (Googles it) Tampa Bay and Milwaukee. And for good reason.
Via Manny Soloway of Awful Announcing, the baseball game averaged 8.33 million viewers. That made it the fourth-least-watched World Series game ever, behind only Game 3 in 2023, Game 4 in 2023, and Game 3 in 2020.
In the 1970s, the NFL moved Monday Night Football to Thursday, in order to avoid competing with the World Series. Prior to 2010, the NFL avoided playing on Sunday nights, in order to avoid competing with the World Series.
Now, baseball should endeavor to play World Series games when NFL games aren't being played. Which means Tuesday night, Wednesday night, Friday night, and Saturday night.

Oct. 29—VERMILLION, S.D. — Long before Austyn Modrzewski became the starting quarterback at the University of South Dakota, he was a first grader in Littleton, Colorado, who had already discovered something special about throwing a football.
He initially lined up at running back when he started playing tackle football. But it did not take long for those around him to recognize that the ball belonged in his hands, and preferably in the air. Even at that age, Modrzewski was doing something rare for a young player in his area: leading an offense that could throw the football.
By second grade, he was training specifically to play quarterback. Sunday mornings and several days throughout the week became practices for his mechanics, improving his footwork and developing a position that had already become his passion. By third grade, he was learning to read defenses.
Football was never simply something Modrzewski played. It was something he worked to understand. He competed across state lines, trained year-round and developed an appreciation for the quarterback position long before most children his age had even thought about their athletic futures.
"I always wanted to be a running growing up back because they always get the ball," Austyn Modrzewski said earlier this season. "And in the first practice, we didn't have a quarterback so I kind of just stepped up and started throwing some ****** . I had fun doing it, and I was like, 'I'm not half bad at throwing.'"

Forever Young, who last year made history as the first ***** anese horse to win the Breeders' Cup Classic, vies for a rare repeat in the showpiece of the $34 million racing extravaganza at Keeneland on Saturday.
Trainer Yoshito Yahagi sounded a confident note after the well-traveled five-year-old enjoyed a "perfect gallop" on the Lexington, Kentucky, track on Wednesday in his final tuneup for the 1 1/4-mile, $7 million race.
"The horse is moving beautifully," Yahagi said. "I'm very satisfied. There is no concern about the horse's condition. He is very fresh."
Forever Young was installed as the 2-1 early favorite after drawing the fifth post, and Yahagi acknowledged that the challenge facing the two-time Saudi Cup-winner and jockey Ryusei Sakai is somewhat different this year as they try to follow Tiznow in 2000 and 2001 as the only repeat Classic winners.
"I think the quality of the rivals is the same as last year, but our position this year is quite different from last year," Yahagi said. "Last year, we have to take on the challenge to win the Breeders' Cup Classic. But this year, I think we are in the position that everybody is targeting us, so it's not quite easy to defend the ***** le."

Football can provide Deshaun Watson with millions of dollars, and with a platform, and even with the roaring adulation of a sellout crowd.
But don't think for one second it can grant him redemption.
Redemption doesn't work that way.
The Kansas City Chiefs can offer Justin Tucker a second chance.
A second chance to kick footballs. Not a second chance for atonement.

EVANSTON, Ill. — Against the window seal of David Braun's office conference room at Northwestern, a bronze statue of a man glares toward visitors.
An award Braun won in 2023, the miniature depiction of Bear Bryant, dressed in his trademark suit and a houndstooth hat, is fitting considering the program's upward trajectory and that his offense, under new coordinator Chip Kelly, is showing flashes of yesteryear: the Wing-T, Wishbone and option concepts that Bryant used to claim six national championships at Alabama more than four decades ago.
"You can call them dated. That's not fair," Braun says with a smile. "But creative!"
Life is good here in this northern Chicago suburb.
The 6-1 and 18th-ranked Wildcats are off to their best start since 2012; the fall foliage sweeps across this campus like a painter's brush; the university alignment and athletic investment is as its best since before the tumult around the clumsy handling of the end of the Pat Fitzgerald era; the program opened a more than $850 million new stadium earlier this season; and the offense is an entertaining throwback under one of the sport's most heralded gurus.

Warren Buffett spent nearly 50 years drinking Pepsi. His son even nicknamed him "Pepsi Warren." Then a neighbor handed him samples of a new cherry-flavored Coca-Cola, and the legendary investor switched sides.
The soda switch made for a good story. The stock purchase that followed made history.
Buffett began buying Coca-Cola shares in 1988, and Berkshire Hathaway eventually built a 400 million-share position for about $1.3 billion. Today, that stake is worth roughly $37 billion at a share price of $93, while the annual dividend income has climbed to about $848 million.

Charles Barkley says some of the best money advice he ever got came from Michael Jordan on a golf course.
The Hall of Famer recalled the moment Jordan pulled him aside while playing golf in the early 1990s. On The Dan Patrick Show in June 2025, Barkley said he was making about $3 million a year from his Nike endorsement deal at the time.
"We were playing golf and he says, 'Chuck, I was talking to somebody, I want you to quit taking $3 million. Take $1 million and take the other $2 million in stock options,'" Barkley said.

With the federal budget deficit at $2 trillion and debt-interest costs topping $1 trillion a year, it may be tempting to look for extra cash under the sofa cushions.
Urgency has grown in recent months as Treasury yields have soared to the highest levels in more than 20 years, putting more pressure on interest expenses.
The Treasury Department has tried some unconventional measures recently to take the heat off yields, including buybacks of more long-dated debt and its intervention to prop up the yen that let ***** an avoid selling its Treasuries.
Given such surprises, speculation has grown around even more far-out tactics. One idea that comes up from time to time is for the Treasury Department to price its immense gold holdings at market rates.

By most traditional measures, having a net worth of $1 million should put someone firmly in the "wealthy" category. Yet a growing number of millionaires don't see it that way.
Just one third (36%) of the nation's wealthiest citizens — those with at least $1 million in investable ***** ets — consider themselves wealthy, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2025 Planning and Progress study.
Further, nearly half (49%) of American millionaires say their financial planning needs improvement, citing the possibility of outliving their savings, the impact of taxes in retirement, and potential long-term care needs as their top financial concerns.
This gap may be surprising, but it highlights how rising costs, longer lifespans, and shifting expectations have redefined what it means to feel rich in modern America.

I'm 67, my husband is 69, and we've been married 38 years. We've lived in the same four-bedroom colonial for 32 of those years. It's paid off and worth $1.5 million. We have another $1.8 million in retirement accounts and savings, plus Social Security and a small pension from his old job. No debt, and our kids are on their own.
So this isn't a money problem, but we can't talk about retirement anymore without it turning into a fight. He wants to buy something for $600,000 now that we are empty-nesters, and invest the rest. He has a spreadsheet. I've seen it open on the laptop at the kitchen table at 11 p.m., with property taxes, insurance and the lawn guy all in little columns.
My spouse was awarded $90,000 from my 401(k) in our divorce. How is that fair?
'She's living the dream': My stepmother said I can buy my childhood home for $850,000. Is she taking advantage of me?

Nearly one in three veterans who relies on the government for health care could benefit from taking psychedelic drugs like magic mushrooms or MDMA.
That's not the ******* sment of some hippie or fading 1960s rock star. It came from Andrew Gradison, a senior adviser at President Donald Trump's Veterans Health Administration. Gradison told a conference for psychedelics enthusiasts this month that he is eager to ramp up the VA's capacity to give the drugs to as many as 2.1 million veterans with mental illnesses like post-traumatic stress disorder or depression. Gradison said 6.4 million veterans regularly rely on the VA for care.
No government regulator has deemed psychedelics safe or effective for mental illness. Under former President Joe Biden, the Food and Drug Administration in 2024 resoundingly rejected a proposal to authorize MDMA — also known as ecstasy — combined with talk therapy, to treat people with PTSD.
But psychedelics are getting a second chance in the Trump administration. Trump in April issued an executive order to accelerate research, clinical trials and patient access to the drugs. Republicans in Congress are among psychedelics' biggest backers. And the constituency they are seeking to please, veterans, are disproportionately Republicans.
Veterans, frustrated with high suicide rates among their fellow ex-service members, are lobbying aggressively to see Trump follow through.
