Tributes began pouring in Wednesday after a news helicopter crashed in Los Angeles, leaving three people dead.
The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. local time Tuesday in the Chatsworth area of the San Fernando Valley, as the news chopper was covering a road traffic accident.
Angel City Air operated the helicopter, which was providing news coverage for NBC Los Angeles.
The victims aboard the helicopter were identified as Eliana Moreno, a journalist familiar to viewers of the station and its Spanish-language sister station, Telemundo 52, and pilot George Marciniw. The pair began flying together in 2023.
A pedestrian on the ground was also confirmed to have died at the scene, officials said. Authorities identified the third victim as Edy Gutiérrez Mejia, 29.

A Southern California high school has suspended its varsity football team, and will forfeit its next matchup, for unsportsmanlike actions in a heated rivalry game that also saw the school's mascot flipping off the opposing crowd.
Victor Valley High School defeated Apple Valley 20-7 on Friday in the 56th edition of the annual rivalry game known as the Bell Game. The winning side not only gets bragging rights but also possession of the rivalry trophy, a large bell that is currently painted green to match the school's colors. However, Victor Valley's celebrations, and the antics of their jackrabbit mascot, crossed a line, according to district officials. Victor Valley Union High School District Superintendent Carl Coles and Victor Valley Principal Darius Robinson released joint a statement announcing the team would be suspended as a result.
"There is a clear line between passionate competition and unacceptable conduct," the statement read. "That line was crossed at the Bell Game on Friday, September 11. Members of the Victor Valley High School football team behaved in an unsportsmanlike manner toward the opposing team and its fans, including offensive gestures and language."
With the suspension, Victor Valley will forfeit its upcoming game against Brea Olinda.
While the district's letter did not specify the actions and gestures made that warranted this punishment - the letter also didn't identify offending players - videos circulating on social media seem to provide some insight into what led to the decision. A woman who found hairs in her Aldi dip has said she was disappointed the company included an AI prompt in its reply when she complained.
Jo Reeves from Cotteridge in Birmingham said she found the "vile" hairs when she popped out for a snack, while her partner was in hospital.
The AI prompt included the phrase: "Make it short and concise but do not overdo it" and Reeves said: "Everyone uses AI but the language is disappointing as a customer.
An Aldi spokesperson said: "This response fell well below our normal standards of customer service. We have contacted Ms Reeves directly to apologise and fully resolve the issue she had with our product."
Reeves said: "My partner was having an op in Worcester hospital so popped to the local Aldi to get 'recovery food'."

NEW DELHI: India pacer Kranti Gaud has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women's Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Sunday.
Gaud was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
Gaud breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage, or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match."
The incident took place in the first over of Sri Lanka's innings. After dismissing opener Imesha Dulani, Gaud gestured in the direction of the pavilion.
Gaud admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Saleema Imtiaz and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Humaira Farah levelled the charge.
Along with the 10 per cent fine, one demerit point has been added to Gaud's disciplinary record.
It was her first offence in a 24-month period.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee. They can also result in one or two demerit points.
Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Women's Asia Cup semifinal against Sri Lanka on Friday.
G.S. Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Pakistan were found to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction. Therefore, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Opponents in scheduled contests this week against School of Languages and Bradley Tech will now be playing each other amid an ongoing investigation into an incident stemming from a Sept. 4 football game between Tech and School of Languages.
Bay View had been scheduled to face School of Languages on Sept. 10, while Milwaukee Hamilton was scheduled to face Bradley Tech on Sept. 11. Those games have both been canceled. Hamilton and Bay View will now face each other at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Pulaski Stadium, per multiple City Conference sources.

HOPATCONG — Before Hopatcong's season opener, Alexa McLean said all the same things to the soccer players as most other coaches would. She just said them in a slightly higher register, occasionally referring to one or another of the boys as "honey." McLean called out her starters' names with a lilt belying her Ecuadoran American roots.
During the match, McLean strolled the sideline with her phone on a sparkly cross-body strap bouncing off her hip, a green dry-erase board printed with soccer lines and a white marker in her right hand. She gave a continuous flow of suggestions and encouragement, mostly in English. But occasionally, McLean switched to her native Spanish.

On August 13, Applied Industrial Technologies (NYSE:AIT) reported fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year results for the period ended June 30, and the numbers were the best in company history. Quarterly sales climbed 10.4% year over year to $1.4 billion, with organic growth of 9.7% marking the strongest pace in more than three years. Yet in the same release, the industrial distributor guided fiscal 2027 sales growth to just 4.0% to 6.5%, a sharp step down that leaves investors wondering whether the acceleration is fading or just getting started.
Applied Industrial's fourth quarter showed growth spreading rather than concentrating in one corner of the business. The Engineered Solutions segment grew 12.9% while the Service Center segment grew 7.9%, both accelerating well past the pace either had shown earlier in the fiscal year. Full-year net sales reached $5.0 billion, up 8.8% year over year, with organic growth of 5.4%, meaning the fourth quarter alone ran at nearly double the full-year organic rate.
Profitability grew even faster than revenue. Fourth-quarter EBITDA rose 16.1% year over year to $177.6 million, and EBITDA margins expanded by more than 60 basis points, evidence that the extra sales reached the bottom line rather than getting discounted away. Big Tech is betting trillions of dollars on artificial intelligence, with a lot of that to be spent on building the data centers that would power large language models. Stock markets are reflecting this in Big Tech stocks, but that's not the only industry riding the artificial intelligence wave. Because that wave runs on electricity and the equipment that brings it from generator to consumer.
There have been reports about a chip shortage caused by the AI rush, and higher compute prices overall resulting from AI-related demand growth in electronics. But a more serious shortage is unfolding in power equipment, as the companies pledging hundreds of billions in AI investments want everything ready yesterday if possible. Alas, it is not.
Transformers, a vital component of the grid, have been in increasingly short supply for at least two years. The shortage has been driven by the fast growth in electricity demand, mostly coming from the tech sector, and the inability to respond to that growth with equally fast grid expansion.

Transformers are used to convert the high-voltage electricity that runs from power plants to substations along transmission lines to a lower-voltage electric current that can be used by end consumers, including data centers. Per Wood Mackenzie estimates, the substation deficit is 8%. This situation will be aggravated further by a recent executive order by President Trump that banned imports of bulk power equipment from China.

OTTAWA, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Thursday his government was ready to sign a trade deal with the U.S. that benefits both countries, adding any agreement would need to have stability and credibility.
"The deal that's possible, that's in the interests of Canadian workers, families and businesses, is also the deal that is in the interests of American families, American businesses, American consumers, and ... we're ready to sit down and strike that deal when the Americans are ready," Carney told reporters in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Carney dismissed recent comments by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that Canada walked away from a trade deal because of domestic politics, saying in response to a question, "I don't think, with all respect, appointed, unelected cabinet members in the United States are experts on Canadian politics."
Carney suggested there had been a recent softening in the U.S. approach to any trade deal that could spur further discussions.

On August 25, Box Inc. (NYSE:BOX) reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results that beat management's own guidance across the board, with revenue climbing 9% to $321.1 million as customers piled into the company's priciest tier, Enterprise Advanced. The bigger story sits underneath the headline number. Box is repositioning itself as the security layer that lets AI agents from Anthropic, Databricks, and Slack actually touch a company's files, and that shift is starting to show up in the billings line.
Billings jumped 17% to $309.5 million, a figure management tied directly to booking strength and record second-quarter wins, which suggests customers are signing bigger contracts rather than trickling in seat by seat. Net retention rose to 106%, ahead of the 105% the company had guided to, driven by both seat expansion and higher price per seat. That combination matters because it means existing customers are both growing their headcount on the platform and paying more per person, a dual engine that is harder to replicate than growth from new logos alone. Suites, Box's bundled higher-tier offering, now make up 69% of revenue, up from 63% a year earlier, and customers paying at least $100,000 annually grew 10% year over year.
A major federal agency illustrated the pattern in the flesh, upgrading to Enterprise Advanced with a fourfold seat expansion to replace several separate software vendors it had been using for contract management and research. Operating margin expanded to 29.4%, and free cash flow jumped 67% to $59.7 million, evidence that the growth is not being bought with discounts. Box also introduced new Model Context Protocol integrations with partners including Anthropic, Databricks, and Slack, letting AI agents execute multistep tasks directly inside a customer's Box environment rather than just answering questions about files stored there.
Not everything in the quarter was clean. CFO Dylan Smith flagged that gross margin faces a constraint tied to "limited access to certain components of the infrastructure," language that points to capacity limits at the cloud providers Box relies on to run its AI features, and management guided third-quarter gross margin down to roughly 80.5% from the 81.2% just posted. Operating margin guidance for the third quarter also steps down to about 28%, a full percentage point below the 29.4% Box just delivered, even as the top line keeps growing.
Currency is another drag that will not disappear on its own. The company absorbed a $0.04 per share hit from foreign exchange in the quarter and expects roughly $0.09 off full-year earnings per share, which is baked into the raised full-year EPS guidance of $1.54. A Rhode Island-based medical equipment company has terminated an employee after the individual was linked to a racist message sent to Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby, adding another chapter to growing concerns about harassment directed at WNBA players. The development follows an internal investigation prompted by Hamby's public disclosure of the message on social media, Yahoo! Sports reported.
The controversy began in late August when Hamby shared a screenshot of a text message she said had been sent to her personal phone number. According to reports, the message included racist language and offensive imagery. Hamby posted the sender's phone number on X and asked followers whether anyone recognized it, prompting widespread attention online.
Social media users subsequently identified the individual believed to have sent the message and connected the person to Acclaro Medical. After learning of the allegations, the company announced that the employee had been suspended while an investigation was conducted. Days later, Acclaro confirmed the individual was no longer employed by the company.
In statements provided to media outlets, Acclaro Medical said it condemns racism, harassment, hate speech and discrimination. The company also emphasized that the conduct allegedly involved does not reflect its values or standards.

TruckSmarter announced on Tuesday that it has been acquired and that its driver app, Dispatch, shuts down on Friday, September 4.
The scale is what makes this more than a routine startup wind-down. More than 500,000 carriers have used the TruckSmarter platform, which included a free load board alongside the paid Dispatch product. Dispatch was an AI chat interface that let a driver ask for freight in plain language and had software agents handle the bidding and booking, rather than making the driver work a traditional load board.
Automated replies from the company indicated that active Dispatch subscriptions are canceled Friday, and that invoices paid within the previous 30 days will be refunded within seven business days of cancellation. Co-founder and chief executive Dan Kao posted a message inside the app thanking users for five years of trust, and drivers and trucking groups spread screenshots of it across social media.
One thing has been ruled out. OTR Solutions, which bought TruckSmarter's factoring and banking division in November 2025, told FreightWaves it did not acquire the remaining business.
So a company that raised money twelve months ago is gone by Friday, and ****** ody will say who bought it. That combination has a name in technology, even if no one involved here has used it.
