The hits New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart took as a rookie might still be haunting him, but not necessarily because any physical effects have lingered.
After Dart's latest trip to the blue medical tent for a sideline evaluation on Saturday, Aug. 15, he said he was "puzzled" by how frequently he ends up there. Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters in a virtual press conference on Aug. 16 that he believes Dart's "history" of concussion checks is the reason he ends up in the medical tent so often.
"I'm sure it's frustrating," Harbaugh said. "I guess he maybe got the wind knocked out of him a little bit, but I'm not going to be critical of the league or whoever's doing that upstairs. They do their job and they want to protect the players.
"I'm sure history or whatever they might remember, maybe that comes into play. I don't know if there is a similar situation, another quarterback would have been called in the tent or not. There's no way for us to know that. So, nothing we can worry about."
Dart was flagged five times for medical evaluations in his rookie season last year. He was diagnosed with a concussion in a Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears and ended up missing two games.

Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart said he was "puzzled" by having to go into the sideline medical tent after taking a big hit during Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings because he feels like it happens to him more frequently than other quarterbacks.
Dart made five trips to the tent during his rookie season and missed two games with a concussion, which sparked a lot of conversation about Dart's need to protect himself while running the football. Saturday's check came after he took a hit while taking a sack, but head coach John Harbaugh said on Sunday that he thinks Dart's full body of work played a role in the most recent trip.
"I'm sure it's frustrating," Harbaugh said, via a transcript from the team. "I guess he maybe got the wind knocked out of him a little bit, but I'm not going to be critical of the league or whoever's doing that upstairs. They do their job and they want to protect the players. I'm sure history or whatever they might remember, maybe that comes into play. I don't know if there is a similar situation, another quarterback would have been called in the tent or not. There's no way for us to know that. So, nothing we can worry about."
Harbaugh then pivoted back to his initial response. On Saturday, Harbaugh said the team needs to block better and he was critical of the protection again.
"There's no way he should have been hit there," Harbaugh said. "I mean, it just shouldn't have happened. That was a basic protection. Should have been protected and we expect in that situation to be protected in the future. I mean, it's not like he's going to be never hit, never tackled, never sacked. But it shouldn't have been in that one, and it shouldn't have been that easy to get to him."

After taking a look back at the film, one recent Lions addition grabbed Dan Campbell's attention from Detroit's NFL preseason opener at the Cincinnati Bengals.
Ryan Cooper Jr., a recent training camp signing, popped Cincinnati receiver Dohnte Meyers early in the fourth quarter on a pass from Bengals quarterback Josh Johnson. Cooper's hit knocked the football loose and prompted the red challenge flag from Campbell.
The play was upheld as an incompletion, but Cooper's play stuck with coach Campbell.
"One guy—I just bring it up because of the play that he made—you know, he just stepped in the door. It's like, who is this guy? Cooper, you know, that was a **** of a hit he made over there. I know it was one play, but it's like, I know who he is now. He got a ball out," Campbell said.
Cooper spent the spring with the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL, registering 25 tackles, four pass breakups, one tackle for loss and one interception.

When we look back to February of this year, the Maryland Charm were the first team to be knocked out of the Championship Series. A few short months after that, they were heading into the first-ever full season of the WLL, and their worth was questioned. But it was never a question within their own locker room.
We doubted Maryland. Combining their struggles to win at the Championship Series and many of their newly drafted players missing from training camp in April, our Power Rankings continued to list the Charm fourth of four teams leading into the start of the season.
But who doesn't love a good "prove people wrong" story?
The Maryland Charm were crowned the inaugural and 2026 Women's Lacrosse League champions after an emphatic 16-13 win over the California Palms on Saturday in Philadelphia.
If we look back at post-Championship Series press conference statements by Charm star midfielder Ally Kennedy and lead goalkeeper Caylee Waters, this inaugural championship run starts to make sense.

The lopsided pitching matchup didn't materialize, but it turned out not to matter, as big bats beat big arms.
As he crossed into more innings than he had pitched all of last season (134) Sean Burke had his worst start since June 13, giving up four earned runs on five hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings that took him 72 pitches. His velocity was off a couple of ticks and his command wasn't terrific, either. The first and biggest blow was a two-run triple in the second on Brett Callahan's first major league pitch. Callahan then was knocked in on a Max Clark single to make it 3-0 (Callahan's next time up he was called out on strikes by home plate umpire Adam Beck on a clear ball, but his attempt at a challenge was declared too late by Beck, who had a terrible day overall.)
The Sox got one run back on a Tristan Peters opposite-field pop-up ground-rule double (those corners in Comerica are really short) and two grounders. The Tigers got it back to 4-1 on an opposite-field homer off Sam Antonacci's glove by Colt Keith in the third, then in the fifth they learned why the dreaded leadoff walk is so dreaded: Tigers starter Drew Anderson, at his highest pitch count all year, pinned Peters down 0-2 then threw four straight ****** , followed by a slider that didn't slide that Drew Romo slid 386 feet to right to make it 4-3.
A Randal Grichuk pinch-double and Colson Montgomery broken-bat single in the sixth tied the game. Next, Tigers lefty reliever Todd Holton again proved the dreaded-leadoff-walk rule by giving Antonacci (who doesn't hit lefties well) a five-pitch pass and following that by setting one on a tee for Munetaka Murakami, only to see it land 393 feet away. Make it 6-4, White Sox.
The Tigers cut it to 6-5 in the seventh when Dillon Dingler broke an 0-for-29 slump with a double to score Gleyber Torres, at which point Mune proved he's not just another pretty bat:

Mark Selby claimed his fourth China Open **** le with a 10-6 victory over Noppon Saengkham in Taiyuan.
Four-time world champion Selby, 43, has now won 26 ranking events and this success lifts him from ninth to fifth in the world rankings.
"I'm happy to be standing here as champion, I played some good stuff all week, somewhere near close to my best," said Selby.
The Englishman, who was appearing in his first ranking final in China for eight years, had trailed 4-2 early in the contest despite compiling a wonderful 138 break in the third frame.
However, he took the final two frames of the first session to draw level at 4-4 and when play resumed he knocked in breaks of 58, 90, 69 and 53 to reel off the next four and establish a healthy advantage.

The Washington Huskies ran 125 plays in their first of two scrimmages of fall camp, and as has been the story for the majority of the first two weeks of practice, the defense stole the show.
On sustained drives, Washington's offense was able to muster just two touchdowns, as defensive coordinator Ryan Walters' overwhelming pass rush wreaked havoc against all the quarterbacks, and coach Jedd Fisch appeared very pleased with what he saw from the unit, which also held the offense to a combined 3-for-9 during a goal line drill.
"I thought our defense played really well, flew to the ball," Fisch said on Saturday night. "I love how fast our linebackers play; I love how fast our safeties play. I think that (Rylon Dillard-Allen) and Alex (McLaughlin) are two of the best that I've been around, and the last three safeties we had at the last spot are all drafted and playing in the NFL right now."
McLaughlin showed up all over the place on Saturday, as Walters deployed him everywhere from his traditional safety spots to inside and outside linebacker. He wreaked havoc in the backfield throughout the evening, and would've been credited with several sacks in live game action, as he pulled up to not hit various quarterbacks, but it was Dillard-Allen who made the biggest play of the day from the pairing.
In a late drill on the goal line, the sophomore safety met freshman running back Ansu Sanoe in the hole and knocked him backwards, sparking a celebration from Dillard-Allen that saw him run halfway across the field to get in the face of offensive lineman John Mills.

BALTIMORE — With 8:53 remaining in the first quarter Saturday night, Eagles defensive tackle Ty Robinson exploded off the ball and knocked down Ravens guard Emery Jones Jr.'s arm and brought down quarterback Tyler Huntley for a sack.
Overall, the Eagles' 24-7 loss to the Ravens in the first preseason game represented an ugly night, but Robinson's performance was one of the few reasons Philadelphia can wake up feeling good today.
After a rough start in the NFL, Robinson said the sack was a sign his hard work is paying off.
"When you get a full offseason, I got to really learn a lot about my body and what needed to be worked on," Robinson said Saturday night at M&T Bank Stadium. "A big part of that was mobility and flexibility. That was a big key focus for me. I always knew I had the strength. So, I mean, just being able to use those **** ets to help me perform on the field [is making a difference]."
After dismantling Jones' block with a cross-chop, Robinson reminded himself of what he already knew: He has the talent to play in the NFL and make an impact.

Donte Johnson didn't need much time to pick up his third UFC win.
Johnson (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) took on Eric McConico on the prelims of UFC 330 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia and gave the fans plenty to cheer about. At 1:38 of Round 1, Johnson knocked out McConico (11-5-1 MMA, 2-3 UFC).
The heavy-handed Johnson went to work right away, making sure Johnson felt his power as he applied forward pressure. Johnson threw out a right-hand feint, followed by a huge left power shot to the jaw that sent McConico crashing to the canvas. Johnson rushed in for follow-up punches, and referee Blake Grice got an unwanted piece of the action as he dove in to stop the fight.
During his post-fight interview, Johnson expressed his desire to not only fight in multiple weight classes during his UFC tenure, but aims to capture gold in three weight classes.
With this result, Johnson improves to 3-0 in the UFC with two stoppages. For McConico, his recent trend of wins and losses continues as he struggles to stay consistent.

Jersey Bulls were knocked out of the FA Trophy on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Hayes and Yeading United.
The London side progressed 4-1 on penalties to advance from the preliminary round in an entertaining tie.
A young island side made an excellent start as Sammy Henia-Kamau calmly put the Bulls 1-0 up having been put through by debutant Luke Lister's precision pass in the eighth minute.
Hayes and Yeading, who were hosting the game owing to ongoing building work at Springfield, almost equalised four minutes later when Amari Fashanu crashed an effort off the post.
Impressive former Swansea City and Hull City youngster Henia-Kama spurned number of efforts to extend the lead as the first half went on.

Ben Shelton successfully defended his ***** le at the Canadian Open on Thursday, defeating fellow American Brandon Nakashima, 6-3, 7-6(4), in Montreal. It's Shelton's second ATP 1000 tournament win.
He became the seventh man in the Open era to go back-to-back in the event. Rafael Nadal was the last to win in both Toronto and Montreal — the men's and women's tournaments alternate sites each year — in 2018-19.
Shelton didn't drop a set in six matches against top-75 opponents. After a bye in the first round, he defeated No. 74 Jenson Brooksby, 6-3, 7-5, in the round of 64 and No. 34 Zizou Bergs, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 32. No. 27 Joao Fonesca fell, 6-3, 7-6(3), sending Shelton to the quarterfinals, where he beat No. 17 Jakub Mensik, 6-3, 6-1.
The semifinal between Shelton and Learner Tien, served as a revenge match of sorts. The last time the two faced off was at Indian Wells, a Masters 1000 tournament, and Tien upset Shelton. This time, the former Gator emerged victorious in dominant fashion, 6-2, 6-3.
Shelton had struggled in Masters 1000s all year, coming into the Canadian Open with a 1-4 record, including four straight losses. Despite winning an ATP 500 tournament (Dallas) and an ATP 250 tournament (Munich), Shelton had seen several early exits since falling to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open — in January. Most notably, he was knocked out in the round of 64 at Roland Garros and suffered a first-round loss at Wimbledon.

With 64 seeds in the men's and women's draw of the last major warm-up prior to the August 30 US Open only going into action from Saturday, interest focused on the fate of 2017 winner Grigor Dimitrov and 2022 runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The popular Dimitrov was unable to hold onto a 4-1 lead in the third set against Argentine Sebastian Baez, exiting in the first round 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 as he lost the last five games of the encounter.
The 35-year-old Dimitrov, his ranking down to 138 and playing on a wild card, was bidding for his first Cincinnati victory in five years.
Baez goes on to next play American Learner Tien, a semi-finalist this week in Montreal.

Colts get unfortunate report on special teams coach Brian Mason after preseason injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Indianapolis Colts played their first preseason game on Thursday night against the New England Patriots. They tied 13-13, and right at the end of the game, a serious-looking injury occurred.
But it wasn't a player that got hurt. It was a member of the Colts' coaching staff, special teams coordinator Brian Mason. He was knocked down on the sidelines when players ran into him finishing a play. Mason was clearly in pain.
The next day, James Boyd of The Athletic reported that Mason is believed to have suffered some brutal knee injuries, with multiple torn ligaments in his knee following this freak accident.
"Colts STC Brian Mason is believed to have suffered multiple torn ligaments in his knee, a league source confirms to TheAthleticNFL," Boyd reports.

The biggest injury news from the Indianapolis Colts' preseason opener was that quarterback Anthony Richardson was back after his "freak" eye injury last year. The second-biggest injury news was what happened to one of their coaches.
Brian Mason, the Colts' special teams coordinator, was part of a sideline collision on the final play of his team's matchup against the New England Patriots. Mason was watching Colts quarterback Riley Leonard's last-second Hail Mary attempt when two players – one Colt and one Patriot – ran into the coach.
The collision, which was caught on broadcast cameras, knocked Mason onto the ground. He could be seen screaming and rolling around for a moment before members of the Colts' training staff came over to help him.
Note: The following video may be graphic for some viewers.

Soccernews report Borussia Dortmund defender Almugera Kabar is in advanced stages to join NEC Nijmegen on a loan deal. According to the Dutch source, Kabar is interested in the move as discussions between the clubs are going smoothly so far.
The left-back joined Dortmund's youth ranks in 2019. However, he has only made six Bundesliga appearances, including seeing a red card on his debut during the 2024/25 season. Unfortunately, Dortmund lost four games with the 20-year-old on the pitch.
According to the report, the clubs are in discussion for a loan deal as Kabar has a contract until 2028. Nijmegen surprisingly finished third in Eredivisie last term, which secured them a place in the preliminary rounds of Champions League.
They knocked out Olympiacos on Tuesday to progress to the final qualification round tie against FK Bodø/Glimt. Ex-Dortmund prospect Emre Mor scored the extra-time winner against the Greece giants, in front of his former teammate Edin Džeko. Schalke's striker was in the stands to support another teammate from his Fenerbahçe spell, Dušan Tadić.

The game of baseball has been played for well over a century. It's the only American sport to survive two world wars, the Great Depression and numerous controversies and scandals within its own ranks. That's what has made the game America's pastime to this day. Whenever the game gets knocked down or interrupted, it always finds a way to return and rise again. Few have told baseball's stories over the last four decades like Tom Verducci.
The five-time Emmy Award-winning writer, ***** yst and reporter is heading into another fall where his skills shine brightest. A member of the National Sports Media Hall of Fame, Verducci continues to balance his duties for Sports Illustrated, MLB Network and FOX Sports while also hosting a podcast with former MLB manager Joe Maddon. At the heart of everything Verducci accomplishes each season are the lessons he learned in his early days covering the game.
"The writing feeds everything else. It starts with the backbone of writing, which is preparation. Reporting, researching, and being prepared. I always tell students to use a fraction of what you discover in your story. The same approach applies to everything else," said Verducci. "I just wanted to be in this business because I love to write. Longform writing is closest to my heart, but I love doing everything else too."
Verducci believes every great connection to baseball begins and ends with narrative. From an early age, he viewed the sport through the eyes of a coach. His father coached high school baseball during Verducci's youth, giving him a unique perspective that shaped his understanding of the game.
To this day, Verducci admits he's still learning about the sport he grew to love. From those early lessons to becoming one of baseball's most respected storytellers, he believes the best insights often come directly from the players themselves.

Thunder young star Chet Holmgren's future in limbo because of Spurs' Victor Wembanyama's success originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Oklahoma City Thunder did not make the NBA Finals for the second consecutive season. Instead, the San Antonio Spurs knocked off the defending champions in a thrilling series that went all the way to seven games.
The Thunder were stunned that they were unable to make another deep playoff run. However, their center, Chet Holmgren, struggled to make an impact in Game 7.
"To even say Holmgren was passive on Saturday night would be giving him too much credit. He was basically invisible. Of the four shots he took, zero came in the second half. Zero! That is inexcusable for a guy who will start a five-year, $239 million contract next season. A guy who was voted Third Team All-NBA this season," CBS Sports' Brad Botkin wrote.
At the end of the season, Holmgren met with the media to discuss the Spurs series and acknowledged that he underperformed. He did not hold back when discussing his performance.

Nvidia (NVDA) was reversing higher Tuesday after a nearly 3% fall to start the week.
The stock has formed a clear base amid earnings reports from key players in the artificial intelligence field, including Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN) and Microsoft (MSFT).
With a market cap of $5.3 trillion, Nvidia has reclaimed its crown as the most valuable company on the stock market. Apple (AAPL) was knocked off that perch recently after the stock sold off following its earnings report. Is Nvidia stock a buy or sell now?
On Monday, the company announced its partnership with six Wall Street financial institutions, BlackRock (BLK), Blackstone (BX), Goldman Sachs (GS), KKR (KKR), Brookfield (BN) and Apollo (APO) to raise $500 billion in capital for its artificial intelligence buildout.
Meanwhile, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) on Monday reported July sales of $14.5 billion, or a 45% increase annually.

Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington said that her social media post about White privilege was not about her flagrant 2 foul on Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham on Saturday, but about a desire for "consistency across the board" in officiating, an issue that has sparked controversy throughout the WNBA season.
Carrington had posted "WHITE PRIVILEGE" on her Threads account and tagged the Indiana Fever shortly after her ejection from the game. She was whistled for a flagrant 2 foul after her left arm connected with Cunningham's head and jaw as Cunningham was midair attempting a layup. The blow knocked Cunningham to the floor, but she quickly got up to confront Carrington before her Fever teammate Makayla Timpson pulled her away.
"I've never once claimed that the ****** sment of the foul was White privilege (that was your ****** umption)," Carrington posted Monday on X, in response to commentary from sports ****** yst Emmanuel Acho, who said that the flagrant 2 decision was accurate. He also called her post "ignorant" and "asinine."
"Furthermore, I'm the LAST thing from ignorant or asinine when it comes to speaking on 'white privilege', do ya research on that one," Carrington continued. "I actually went to school, one of the top universities might I add, to educate myself on this exact subject. I would never use that term as a rhetorical weapon knowing the historical and social weight it holds without having the proper evidence to substantiate it."
Carrington, who played four years in college at Stanford before transferring to Baylor, told reporters before the Sky's game against the Seattle Storm Monday night that her post was aimed at the league more broadly. She did not address why she tagged the Fever in her post.

Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington said her flagrant foul Aug. 8 against Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was unfortunate and unintentional. She also clarified her "white privilege" post on social media was not in response to being given the foul.
"It's just who I am. I'm never going to just let an open layup be had," Carrington told reporters Monday, Aug. 10, before the team's road game against the Seattle Storm. "You can pull clips from, I don't know, however many seasons of me making that (play). Obviously I'm just coming back from injury, so maybe my timing or my lift wasn't where it needs to get. It was unfortunate I made contact with her in the way that I did, but it was never intentional."
Carrington made her season debut for the Sky on July 30 after recovering from a foot injury. She was ejected from their game against the Fever for a flagrant foul penalty 2, which is given for "unnecessary and excessive" contact, according to the WNBA rulebook.
Carrington, who is Black, fouled Cunningham from behind on a fast-break layup late in the first quarter of the nationally-televised game at the United Center in Chicago. Cunningham, who is white, was knocked to the court from the impact. The play was reviewed and upgraded to a flagrant 2 after officials determined Carrington wound up and followed through on the contact with Cunningham's head and neck.
Cunningham recently made headlines for her comments on transgender athletes, and Carrington emphasized that had nothing to do with the on-court situation.

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani made some more progress towards returning to the mound over the weekend, playing catch on the field ahead of the Dodgers' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday.
The reigning MVP will also play catch again ahead of Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
Ohtani has only played as a hitter for more than a month, as a lingering knee injury has knocked him out of the Dodgers' starting rotation. He threw a bullpen a few weeks ago in an attempt to ramp up, but felt some discomfort in his knee—leading the Dodgers to shut him down once again.
He first felt the injury in the middle of June, and it became more of an issue in July—as the Dodgers scratched him from two games before the All-Star break. Ohtani also missed the All-Star Game, as he received a lubricant injection in his knee during the brief hiatus.
Ohtani seems to be heading in the right direction, though, as playing catch is the second step in his own plan to return to the mound.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided new details about his accident to the press and announced his coming return to the sideline.
Shanahan admitted another interesting detail to the press about his accident: he thought his autopilot switch was on in his Tesla when the accident occurred.
Shanahan didn't keep his eyes on the road, which caused the accident, but he added this new detail.
"So I'm pretty comfortable with it and, you know, who knows what happened when I turned around — whether it malfunctioned or whether I knocked it off?" he said. "That's something I don't know yet."
"But regardless, that's always your fault, whether you're on autopilot or not," he continued. "You can't take your eyes off the road. (Driving) is a partnership. You don't just turn it over to a computer. And it's a good lesson, no matter how comfortable I am with that, that I believe someday could save my life or someone else's. It's really helped me have perspective on that stuff."

Not the flashiest way to end the series, but a win, nonetheless.
The Atlanta Braves might have been struggling waking their bats up, but somehow avoided being swept by the New York Yankees with a 2-1 win in extras.
A homerun knocked in by Matt Olson was the first run of the game in the top of the seventh and put the Braves on the board to kick things off.
The Yankees wouldn't accept a shut-out, however, and knocked a solo shot of their own—courtesy of Trent Grisham—during the bottom of the eighth to tie the Braves 1-1.
The problem with both teams during this series is the lack of offensive production to put themselves in a good spot early on. In this game specifically, there wasn't any action from anyone until late in the game, which could've gone differently, considering that New York's previous two wins in the series were low-scoring ones.
